Jalen Ramsey, A Todd Bowles Weapon
April 17th, 2025Yeah, the draft is a week away, but Joe is still pacing the halls of One Joe Place thinking about the Bucs acquiring Jalen Ramsey. The Dolphins have been looking to deal the seven-time Pro Bowler, per NFL Network.
It would be a Super Bowl move and Joe’s in a Super Bowl frame of mind.
Ramsey can lock down but he’s also shown versatility through his career. Retired QB Brian Hoyer noted on SiriusXM NFL Radio today how he was with the Patriots when Ramsey covered Rob Gronkowski man-to-man in the AFC Championship game.
For those who forgot that epic game, the Jags choked and lost. Gronk caught just one pass for 21 yards.
“He’s still talented, has the size, the speed, all of those things,” Hoyer said of Ramsey, noting he shows the skills to play safety if a team wants him in that role.
Simply put, Ramsey is no Jamel Dean.
Retired defensive back and co-host Solomon Wilcots agreed and added that Ramsey would be “a weapon” for Todd Bowles.
Combined, Wilcots and Hoyer listed the Bills, Bengals, Ravens, Vikings, Packers and Bucs as possible fits for Ramsey.
Hoyer added it would take a mature and strong locker room to handle a big persona like Ramsey’s.
Yes, the Bucs have the salary cap room, or they could make more, or possibly the Dolphins could eat part of Ramsey’s salary.
In a weird way, Joe thinks acquiring Ramsey could right the wrong of the Bucs letting Darrelle Revis walk out the door after the 2013 season for no good reason — and no compensation. Revis was an All-Pro the following season with the Patriots.

The Joe that wrote this plays too much madden. He will be 31 in October, is not what he used to be, and has a huge contract. On top of it we would have to give up draft picks and he is a locker room cancer waiting to happen. Should I go on?
Contract doesn’t have to be huge because Dolphins could eat some of it. He won’t command great picks. Aqib Talib was still balling at a Pro Bowl level at 31 years old. You could make the same argument on locker room with Haason Reddick. Rams had no issue winning a Super Bowl with Ramsey. –Joe

Isn’t he with the Dolphins not Rams ?
April 17th, 2025 at 11:51 am
Really? Still keeping score on that one?
April 17th, 2025 at 11:53 am
The second the Glazers heard that idiot Lovie was going to cut Darrelle Revis, they should have fired that clown right on the spot.
Easily top-five dumbest move this franchise has ever made.
April 17th, 2025 at 11:54 am
Typed this one out quick eh.
Ramsey is with the Dolphins, not Rams and I assume he covered Gronk, not Hoyer himself.
Anyway, cost and age have me thinking this is a no go.
Today on NFL, Marc Ross has a mock, CB2(?) Will Johnson falls to Bucs. Mock seemed plausible. If Saints and Raiders aren’t in the CB game round 1, the only other team now that likely takes one is the Dolphins moving on from Ramsey.
April 17th, 2025 at 12:06 pm
OBF, yes Ramsey is under contract to the Dolphins, not the Rams.
April 17th, 2025 at 12:07 pm
NO
April 17th, 2025 at 12:08 pm
Talib too
April 17th, 2025 at 12:08 pm
He’s on the Dolphins. If his agent is Rosenhouse that’s a positive for the Bucs Licht seems to have a good relationship with him. I think to move the player MIAMI is going to still have to pay some of the contract.
April 17th, 2025 at 12:08 pm
Lets add a washed up malcontent to our roster. There is a reason he has been with so many teams and has a large cap hit. I was told to months ago that we could not afford Garrett……Ramsey is 24 million plus against the cap and he is signed through 2028. Skillset does not match the issues or the price. Putting coverage over pass rush is the cardinal sin in all levels of football.
April 17th, 2025 at 12:10 pm
IF we get rid of Dean, hell yeah, its the way to go
April 17th, 2025 at 12:17 pm
I say IF Jalon Walker is still on the board and available at #13 to Miami, then it should set ‘in-motion’ triggering an already agreed to pre-draft trade with the Tampa Bay Bucs, that also includes Jalen Ramsey!!!! We have a great shot at running the table through THIS NFC South Division, & possibly earning a ‘first round bye’ AND home-field advantage throughout The Playoffs. That would make for one HELLUVA off-season, that’s for sure… Reddick, Ramsey, Jalon Walker (and the rest of our draft class), Chris Godwin, plus all of the ‘restructures’ in order to build more cap space, & etc. Hell, if THAT wouldn’t grade out as having an A+ off-season (or at least an ‘A’ at worst), then I don’t know what else would!?
April 17th, 2025 at 12:19 pm
Pass.
April 17th, 2025 at 12:22 pm
Ramsey is the classic aging vet that still has ability but has no true hunger for the game. Reminds me of OBJ….he’ll gladly sell you hope that he’s going to deliver the old version but that’s simply to secure his money. Once a player values the lifestyle more than the game itself, that’s when it’s time to move on. They are only showing up to get paid, Ramsey would never take a pay cut like LVD just to keep playing. LVD loves the game…loves the Bucs organization and his teammates…..his passion is what drives his motivation at 34 yrs old. Ramsey isn’t about that, every organization that gets him moves on within a few yrs.
April 17th, 2025 at 12:34 pm
Not your smartest take Joe
I hope and think Dean stays here
And he plays up to his potential
I’m keeping receipts from all the Dean haters
Go Bucs
April 17th, 2025 at 12:35 pm
Hard pass. Beef up the line & backers and watch your secondary soar
April 17th, 2025 at 12:36 pm
No, no, no. Click bait joe. Ad revenue down in April?
In addition to everything said by others above here, which extensions do you want to forget? Want to let Goedeke walk? Trade for Ramsey. What about Evans? Usually he’d be first one done, but if we had to choose among youth extensions or an aging WR some think we’re going to draft his eventual replacement in the first this year?
Click bait.
Speaking of Evans, what do you think he’d say about adding Ramsey. Surely would be all for it. Bucs only would/could be committed for one year. Would much rather have Ramsey than face him in a big game.–Joe

*Easily top-five dumbest move this franchise has ever made.
Ranks up there with letting Lagarette Blount and Michael Bennet leave.
Blount leaving is what I think was our no.1 dumbest move.
April 17th, 2025 at 12:49 pm
Ramsey’s Contract was originally 3 year 72 million in 2024 with only 24 million guaranteed. Then they went and restructured it and stretched it out.
Now the Dolphins are looking for someone to get them off the hook.
Miami is sitting with about 16 million in cap space and if they use all 7 draft picks will have a little left in Reserve.
Some team with 8-10 draft picks will deal Miami some picks with the Dolphins picking up the lion’s share of his salary. Definitely be a Buyer’s Market and Nobody is giving up a 1st or 2nd to get him.
April 17th, 2025 at 12:56 pm
Most moronic ignorant move the Bucs EVER made was not resigning Doug Williams-Period and end of story.
April 17th, 2025 at 1:00 pm
He didn’t ‘move-on’ from these teams because HE wasn’t any good (&/or) wasn’t worth-it, hence all the Pro-Bowls, AND ‘All-Pro’ FIRST-Teams. If I remember correctly, HE wanted OUT too the dumpster-fire in JAX and wanted to play for a Contender. EVERYONE wanted OUT of JAX… It’s how we STOLE Lenny! Then, the RAMS moved him AFTER getting their ring… They had too many other STUDS at more important positions other than at CB to keep AND were in Salary Cap HELLLLL, after their run. And I mean, come on… Miami is a HUGE MESS. A disaster, honestly. Plus, I don’t know how much of the remainder of his contract is guaranteed and all of that!? The Bucs can restructure, (&/or) Miami might have to take a hit and eat some of it, or maybe they want Dean (tho if we’re truly making a run, I’d rather keep him), & etc. A LOT can happen with these bogus ‘non guaranteed’ NFL contracts. Miami has already paid $4Mil of the roster bonus on this years contract leaving like $21Mil still remaining… Hell, the DB Market went WILD this off-season… EVEN, Carlton Freakin’ Davis got like $17Mil. I don’t know what REALLY is left on Ramsay’s contract, or how much Dead Cap would be associated with it, & etc. But, whatever it is they can all figure it out. I’m always, VERY conservative too, & don’t like risking the future by putting us in a big hole and being in cap HELL… But, I think we really have a shot here, with THIS Division and current makeup within the NFC as a whole. The North will beat each other up, San Fran is in a bit of a rebuild, The Rams and Stafford (old and hurt) are a little injury prone… Then, you’ve got Philly & Washington. It’s WIDE OPEN and there for the TAKEN, as long as Baker & Bowles step-up with BIG years, & we have some luck with staying healthy.
April 17th, 2025 at 1:06 pm
Considering the aforementioned comment variables, including the negative ones, I’d still take a flyer on Ramsey for a year. At the very least he’d contribute more than Dean, who appears to shy away from contact like Deon Sanders without the talent.
Bucs current defense, despite a few excellent players, needs some swagger. Whether it real or false bravado, at least Ramsey has an over abundance of confidence.
Instead of guys like Dean, who pray the ball isn’t thrown his way, Ramsey has the ‘bring it on’ attitude this defense needs.
April 17th, 2025 at 1:11 pm
Joe said “Joe thinks acquiring Ramsey could right the wrong of the Bucs letting Darrelle Revis walk out the door after the 2013 season for no good reason — and no compensation”
Hey Joe, Did you ever hear the expression, two wrongs don’t make a right.
(1) If Ramsey was so great Miami wouldn’t let him leave. He’s a diva and too rich for Buc’s blood for a 1 year rental
(2) Only so much money to go around and Bucs need to re-sign, RT Luke Goedecke, WR Mike Evans, CB Zyon McCallum and possibly EDGE Hassan Reddick next year.
April 17th, 2025 at 1:12 pm
I agree with that, JA.
April 17th, 2025 at 1:14 pm
No no no no no no.
Stop bringing up what this guys was able to do over 5 years ago! Those skills are long gone. I’ll never understand why you drool over washed up vets, just b/c you recognize their name…
April 17th, 2025 at 1:18 pm
Most moronic ignorant move the Bucs EVER made was not resigning Doug Williams-Period and end of story.
This times 1000, set this franchise back years and we ended up giving up draft picks for Jack Thompson and paying him more than Williams wanted. This and drafting Bo even after he told the Bucs not to because they had knowingly cost him his eligibility by flying him down to Tampa in March for a physical and lied to him telling him this would not be a problem for him. He always blamed the Bucs for ending his baseball career at Auburn, Phil Krueger allegedly told him that as long as he didn’t sign with an agent the flight would not hurt his amatuer status.
April 17th, 2025 at 1:44 pm
Joe is gushing over a guy who’s best days are well behind him. That the Dolphins are *sprinting* away from Ramsey says a LOT. They know everything about him, owe a massive amount of money and absolutely want out of having him around 1 year after signing him. If the Dolphins ate his salary, fine. Aside from that, the Bucs have the ability to succeed without him and keep their cap space while doing it.
April 17th, 2025 at 1:45 pm
@Ted,
Going back to Doug Williams is a stretch. Throwing in Bo Jackson.. and of course a Phil Krueger mention. I mean, it’s so old and irrelevant… Can we stick with the topic at hand?
April 17th, 2025 at 1:48 pm
If Ramsey is a pain in the arse, as it would appear, they’re just not gonna do it. People will say “what about AB?” That was a special case because the celebrity QB pleaded for him and vouched for him. That won’t happen again.
April 17th, 2025 at 2:25 pm
The asking price for him is apparently a 7th round pick. I’d absolutely do that for one, possibly two years of service for him.
April 17th, 2025 at 3:46 pm
I think Ramsey would be great as a no.2 at this point in his career. That being said he would be a huge upgrade over Dean and be a fountain of knowledge for McCollum. Go get him for a reasonable price
April 17th, 2025 at 3:49 pm
The only way I’d like James Ramsey – is AFTER the Dolphins cut him.
April 17th, 2025 at 4:07 pm
Joe, I’m with you! Prob a mid to late round pick AND that’s 1 less PROSPECT corner we have to draft. That means more focus on DL, LB and S. Prob still draft 1 cb.
April 17th, 2025 at 4:25 pm
If Jason trades for him, good move. If Jason doesn’t trade for him, good move.
I’m having a couple shots.
April 17th, 2025 at 4:49 pm
I’m all for getting JR! It’s go time!! Grab him before he’s playing somewhere else! Perhaps he can be had for a 5th or 6th round pick.
April 17th, 2025 at 4:57 pm
Not resigning Doug Williams was the biggest mistake this franchise ever made. Except for the NFL awarding Culverchicken the franchise in the first place….
April 17th, 2025 at 6:40 pm
I say yes yes yes and yes..which ever Joe this is thats great thinking I would offer dean and 2nd rd pick.
Ask them to eat the cost and will eat Dean’s cost..add him to this secondary would be sick
April 17th, 2025 at 10:58 pm
Lmao!!! Joe keeps score on everything past and present. That dude (Lee) has a little pocket diary he’s been carrying around since 2002 with tabs. Anything, everything, all of it and then some. Seriously I’m sure it was a catalyst to start JBF when Isbitts still had to punch a time clock. Ask him anything that goes back 20 years. Go ahead, ask him. That’s an mfn walking Bucs’ encyclopedia. I was going to throw a question at Joe here but all I keep seeing in my head are pictures of Rachel Watson and Carmella deCeasar. So Ima stop here and get a shower.
April 17th, 2025 at 11:17 pm
One thing I know for sure is Ramsey would make this defense better.
April 18th, 2025 at 4:39 am
Thinking other teams will be vying for Jalen. However, give them the 4th round pick-121st, J. Dean, low cost, and for one year. It could work well for the Bucs.
Seems like Miami had some disorganization last season, and maybe the Bucs would be a better fit for him. If he can fit their no drama culture. Go for it.
One of Joe’s other post’s – I think it was Licht that said if it’s immaturity they can work with it, build from it. They would have to see where Jalen’s head is at.
April 18th, 2025 at 8:59 am
Concur. Assuming there is 1:1 Bowles Ramsey chat about singular minded objective of team and you get in where you fit in. Or you don’t.
