Emeka Egbuka Says He’s Super Reliable

April 25th, 2025

Bucs WR Emeka Egbuka.

Unless one is a full-blown SEC honk and refuses to watch a college football game unless a team wears an SEC patch on their shoulder pads, you very likely watched Ohio State last year since they were always on TV, including the Buckeyes’ run to the national title.

So football fans were hard-pressed not to see Bucs’ first-round pick Emeka Egbuka.

The guy always made plays — playing in the slot, stretching the field, short passes, long passes. Hell, even with runs Egbuka impacted seemingly every game.

Egbuka thinks that’s a big reason the Bucs drafted him. He’s money, he said.

“I’m super reliable,” Egbuka said in a Zoom call with the local pen and mic club without coming across cocky.

“I’m someone who is going to be in the right place at the right time,” Egubka added. “I feel very comfortable with the ball in my hands.

“I never felt like there was a ball in the air that I couldn’t track or was a difficult catch. So, having a quarterback to be able to put it up and just trust you, which I know Baker can do. I’m just really excited to get started.”

Since former Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud was drafted two years ago, Egbuka has been making plays despite having QBs that were not world beaters. Kyle McCord and Will Howard were meh quarterbacks. Not bad. Nothing remotely special.

It’s very likely Baker Mayfield is the best quarterback Egbuka has played with since the 2022 season, when Stroud was his quarterback. So Joe is pumped to see what Egbuka can do with Mayfield slinging the ball.

Basically, in this passing league, The Buccaneers have solidified their receiving corps of the future and still have Evans and Godwin. Add to that their O line, TE, and RBs, I fully expect 32 points a game this year.
And unless they get another linebacker and DB, they’re going to need it. I completely trust them in the draft, but I just hope passing on Jihaad doesn’t bite them in the ass because I think he is a pro bowler.

Anyone who wants the book on Egbuka needs to watch Steve Smith Sr’s analysis of him on Youtube. Called Egbuka the “ultimate slot receiver”. Whichever Joe reads this, check it out, there’s good quotables.

I was really hoping for an edge rusher. I understand why they took the Wr but I think a defensive player would’ve made more sense. Either way tho, it was a good choice

Not losing a wink of sleep 2nite worried about what if #13 and #14 go down at the same time again
We needed a WR, and got the 2nd best one.

    Nice Work JL

One thought for everyone – What if Licht knows something about Evans retiring after 2025? If he gets 1000 yards then he’ll pass Jerry Rice for that all time consecutive seasons record, move into the top 20 all time rec yards, and be top 10 in TD catches. He’ll be guaranteed the gold jacket, has a ring and nothing left to prove.

    Great pick!

Godwin will realistically probably start the season on IR, so this is a very savvy pick.

And he’ll be great in the slot and in the run game.

So much better than wasting our 1st RD draft pick on a backup edge rusher.

Cheers, Mr Licht – and cheers to Joe for pining for this one. It happened. Have another Big Storm.

It’s all good. Emeka was a great choice for the future. We needed to get one WR and we were so lucky to draft him.

Some of us were hoping for an edge rush, but Jason made a right decision here. We have more draft picks to go. Can’t wait to see who we get next.

David I agree with you on the Campbell pick. Eagles grabbed him. Gunna suck if that comes back to bite us if he’s a difference maker in a playoff game against us.
