Baker Mayfield Treats His New Target To Brunch

April 30th, 2025

Baker Mayfield wasted no time getting to know his new target, and hopefully his No. 1 Pro Bowl target of the future.

That new toy is Bucs’ first-round pick wide receiver Emeka Egbuka.

The moment Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht texted Mayfield, hitting him up with news of the team drafting the Ohio State star, Mayfield got Egbuka’s number from Licht and FaceTimed him, telling Egbuka to plan on hitting up a place for brunch when he got to Tampa the next day.

Then, Mayfield gathered up the gang.

Mayfield brought along his honor guard, the Bucs’ starting offensive line, sans Tristan Wirfs. The All-Pro tackle must have been out of town that day because he and Mayfield are very tight.

Maybe Wirfs was the photographer?

But yeah, Luke Goedeke, Cody Mauch, Graham Barton and Ben Bredeson all came along with Egbuka’s family and entourage.

Team bonding.

That how you lead as a captain. Stoked for this season, I keep telling everyone up here in eagles land, this is the Bucs Super Bowl season.

    Go Bucs!

There is immense pressure on Baker this year. He’s not a feel good, came back from the dead story now. He had at least 4 excellent receivers and a running game. Win or a new QB will have brunch reservations next year.

  4. FIRETHECANNONS Says:

Of course the big fellas couldn’t resist a free meal, lol. Love it. This is gonna be a fun season.

    ^^^^^^^
Let me guess, you’re not a Baker fan, huh? Already talking about replacing him before the season even starts is a loser’s mentality.

  6. Danny Cuebas Says:

I’m expecting big things from this team this year. 11-12 wins and a trip to the NFC Championship with hopes of a Super Bowl.

  7. KABucs Says:

    Total bill for brunch:
    Baker’s family & Emeka’s family = 25% of the bill
The 4 linemen = 75% of the bill
    😜

“Already talking about replacing him before the season even starts is a loser’s mentality.”

I feel sorry for these guys. Here’s a scientific FACT. When you think negative loser thoughts your body secretes Adrenaline and Cortisol the same as when faced with a flight or fight decision. Great when immediate action is required but toxic when on a daily basis.

OTOH positive thoughts trigger a neural response that leads to more Dopamine the feel good neurotransmitter.

IE Thinking negatively is BAD for your health. Thinking positively is GOOD for your health. Try it, you’ll like it!!!

Might need a platinum card to pick up that lunch tab with those big eaters.

  10. Davyboy Says:

Actually, Baker will be around for a long time. He isn’t going anywhere. He has proven, like it needed to be proven again, that Cleveland is where quarterbacks go to DIE!!! Watson was one of the best quarterbacks in the league BEFORE Cleveland, that’s why the dummies gave him $250 million no matter how he did and we can all see where he is at since his move to the mistake by the lake. If Baker would have went to a good team right off the bat, with the same OC and HC like most do he would have grown into one of the very best. But he is proving it now. No, Baker isn’t going anywhere no matter what some keyboard warrior here says.

  11. Davyboy Says:

There is less pressure this year. All the pressure was the first 2 years when he was new and everyone was doubting him. Well, only a few maroons are doubting him now and he has his feet under him and everyone knows this is Bakers team and they ALL like it that way. Baker is the QB1 and it will stay that way. The people that matter, know what they got and aren’t going to let it go. The only thing Baker needs to do is cut out about 6-8 interceptions and he will be one of the very best in the league, not just the 5th best as he is now. So take your, “he’ll be gone” and dream about it because there is no reality to that whatsoever.

  12. Bosch Says:

I expect the Bucs to run a lot of four wide receiver formations this season and it will give opposing defenses nightmares!

Mayfield’s leadership and popularity among his teammates is a positive intangible that has made this a great offense.

  13. Truth be Told Says:

This is a Great Team pick that really assures the Top-Notch Offense will stay in play for years to come. If we can hit on a couple of the D picks this team is going to be a Legit SB Team for a while. Go Bucs!!

  14. ModHairKen Says:

Joe in Michigan and stpetebucsfan, well said, both.

Choose to be positive. This team has a lot of talent, good coaches and inertia.

  15. Lightningvinny Says:

    Win games 45-30 this year

  16. orlbucfan Says:

This is just a few Offensive stars meeting a highly regarded addition to their ranks. EE thinks this bonding is something, wait until he’s introduced to the entire locker room. Kudos to Baker and the O. Hopefully, Buc Luck will back off this season.

  17. Idroolpewter&red Says:

Given what I’ve seen and heard about him over the past two seasons, nobody is putting more pressure on Baker Mayfield to win this year than Baker himself. Winner’s mentality all the way.

  18. SenileSenior Says:

Joe in Michigan and stpetebucsfan and ModHairKen, I will echo that. At least look at the glass as half full.

    Go Bucs!!

  19. JustVisiting Says:

I’d bet that Baker is experiencing it more their any kind of pressure. He’s one of those guys motivated by the hunger to win more than the fear of losing.

  20. ThunderDan Says:

Man, we have a great organization!

View from 132, I appreciate your view!

There was nothing in your post that was hyperbole. If Winston ran out of excuses, because he got “weapons for Winston”, then Baker is running out of excuses too. He must be better in clutch time! You were not being negative nor were you being a Pollyanna. If people interpreted your post as attacking Baker, they were looking for it. You were only stating the obvious. Baker has to perform better in the clutch and so does our defensive coordinator!

  22. Orlando Kevin Says:

Love Baker as our QB. Hope he continues to succeed and retires as a Buc.

  23. Scotty Mack Says:

Lightningvinny said “Win games 45-30 this year”

Sorry, but I KNOW the defense is going to be much better this year (barring another excessive rash of injuries) and wouldn’t at all be surprised if they don’t average holding opponents to 18 or less points this year.

BucsBeBack, clearly another Baker hater, said “He must be better in clutch time”.

Like so many, he seems convinced that it was the QB ‘s fault that a receiver couldn’t handle a simple handoff in the ‘Skins playoff game last year. Only true Baker haters automatically assume it was his fault.

Baker brought the team back several times last year only for our decimated defense to hand the game over to the other team for a loss at the end. He’s as clutch as anyone, given a little support on the other side of the ball.

  24. stpetebucsfan Says:

    BBB

What season did you watch last year. Baker was second in TD passes with his two top receivers missing a significant portion of the season.

He was selected to the Pro Bowl for heaven’s sake. As an alternate but so was ME13 do you doubt his talent as well. BTW the 2nd Pro Bowl for Baker

And the fact that you brought up Jameis shows your ignorance. In FIVE seasons JW won 28 games – 40% win % In TWO seasons Baker 19 wins a 59% win %

If Baker wins 10 next year he’ll pass JW’s 5 year total in just THREE!!!

And dumbest line of the entire thread – “If Winston ran out of excuses, because he got “weapons for Winston”,”

RAN OUT OF EXCUSES!!! BAKER has gone 9-8, 10-7 and YOU’RE out of patience!!! You bring up Jameis!!! He finished 3-10…3-6…7-9 THAT’S WHAT RAN JW out of town not a lack of PATIENCE!!!

CBS Sports took notice, ranking him No. 6 among all NFL signal-callers for 2024. His impressive play and resilience helped him thrive in Tampa Bay, where he led the Buccaneers to another strong campaign. The Buccaneers may have fallen short in the playoffs, but Mayfield’s play was anything but a disappointment.

  25. SlyPirate Says:

“I’m excited to get to work”

I’d be excited to get my first pay check. I think Jameis Winston negotiated his 4 year salary paid up front. He got paid $12M on his signing day. This is life changing money.

    LOL!

  29. Davyboy Says:

“Baker has to perform better in the clutch”, the clutch.
    Let’s look at the clutch.
    In the playoffs
    Best quarterback performances:
Jalen Hurts- completion percentage 77%, passer rating 119
    Patrick Mahomes-76%, 127
    Josh Allen-76%, 135
    Baker Mayfield, 83%, 146
    Jayden Daniels-71%, 122
    Lamar Jackson-76, 143
    Jared Goff-81%, 137
    Matthew Stafford-73%, 117
    CJ Stroud-67%, 141
    Dak Prescott-75%, 125
    Justin Herbert-77%, 125
    Jordan Love-74%, 123
    Sam Darnold, 76%, 116
    Joe Flacco-74%, 90
    Tua Tagovailoa-80%, 128
Not one of these great quarterbacks performed as good as Baker.
Not to mention we averaged 8 plays to scoring. 8 plays all night long. I don’t think that has ever been done before. The only reason we lost that game was because Dan Quinn kept the ball out of Bakers hands. Baker averaged throwing the ball 35 times per game in 2024. In the Washington game he threw it 18 times. That’s 17 less throws. Now if we were scoring in 8 plays all night, with 17 no throws that’s 2 more scores. We lost that game not because of a fumble but because Dan Quinn had a superior game plan. I don’t understand how anyone can say Baker needs to play better in clutch situations. 83% & 146 & scores in 8 plays all night. I don’t understand how much better you few “think” he needs to play but I’m anxious to hear how he can.

  30. Davyboy Says:

To make it a little more clear, the average was 75% & 125 to Bakers 83% & 146. That’s quite a bit better. Dare I say “clutch”?? That is almost 10% better on completions and 21 passer rating points better. It is definitely good enough to win a superbowl. Plenty good…

  31. Saskbucs Says:

Thank you Davyboy. We got out game planned. With Daniels, using all 4 downs… they were very hard to stop. They controlled the clock and kept our offense off the field. Even then we had a chance to win.

The only thing that we could have done (other than executing a lot better on last 2 offensive drives) was change our gameplan to match theirs. Keep their O off the field and let Baker and co use all 4 downs.

Do not blame Bowles for that game at all but it’s another example of trusting the D to get stops, which they didn’t for the 20th time over 2 seasons and not completely handing the rudder control over to Coen and the 4th ranked offense.

  32. Saskbucs Says:

Bowles constantly trotting out the K and the D to close games affects the psyche of the whole team. I don’t care what anyone other than players themselves and sports psychologists say, it’s the truth.

NFL vets, professional players, doesn’t matter. We are human, we perform best with confidence. Constantly harping ball security, worrying about interceptions, taking the O off the field in 4th and short or not going for 2… does not instill confidence. It absolutely plays a role in your players screwing up late in games.

  33. BucsBeBack (Artist formally known as: BringBucsBack) Says:

I love Baker! What fan wouldn’t? To critique a professional athlete especially, is not hate. Grow up guys!

St Pete, Baker threw the most or 2nd most INTs last year and most of them were TERRIBLE picks meaning; the DBs didn’t have to work hard to get them. Most picks were Jameis-esque. Sorry, I don’t ignore my eyes.

Baker clearly gets too amped-up at times, to the point where it effects his play. He needs to improve in this area. The goal is the SB. I hope Baker wins 4 of them here, however he leaves room for doubt. He simply has to be better in crunch time and he would agree, ask him.

Baker did not finish his two seasons on “high notes”. I am not as critical of the DC playoff fumble as some are. It was a very unfortuitous play. Until I understand the logistics of the play-design as well as the players and watch the film with Zappruder-like detail, I don’t know who to blame other than the two players involved. For as poorly as our defense was that day, they did hold the DC team to the same points-total that they had in the first meeting. If you are the captain/QB of a high-powered offense; unlesh it, especially in the playoffs!

Baker now has the intangibles that Jameis didn’t. For those reasons, Baker is better. However, Jameis also threw for a lot of yards, TDs & bad picks. Jameis was also a Pro-Bowl alternate. See the similarities? Jameis had talent around him, too. Baker now has MORE hence, “he has no excuses”. Baker will be observed/ scrutinized with this fact in mind.

Jameis’ attitude, money demands and INTs got him run out of town! The Bucs absolutely love Baker for good reasons but, if the bad INTs continue, that love will grow cold, as it did for Jameis. This is another fact Baker understands deeply.

I am much more satisfied with Baker than I am with the HC/DC. I believe the league has figured out his “genius” and he holds the defense back-as in 12 yards of the LOS!?!

The NFC is loaded. If we want a SB, EVERYONE, including Baker, has to be better. This statement shouldn’t shock anyone.

  34. SwissCheeseDefense Says:

I bet I know what breakfast dessert Baker made available to EE.

    Turnovers. Fresh, hot, timely turnovers.

Baking up some disappointment come playoff time!

    Hahahahahaha

  35. Davyboy Says:

Of course critiquing players is fine and fun but as I said he can’t play much better. There is always room for improvement, always.
On the subject of his 16 interceptions. I was looking at the “Advanced Passing” statistics. Baker ranks 5th. In the “throw away” column I noticed something that is very interesting. The top 4 quarterbacks have 20, 16, 26, & 20 balls that they threw away in 2024. Baker at 5th, has 7. Could it be that he could cut back on his interceptions if he would throw the ball away when the time is right like all four of them do? I don’t know but that is a statistic that jumps out at you. I would think it being such a large difference, it is either really good or an area that could be really bad with a lot of room able to improve. I think he has a hard time giving up and just throwing it away but maybe he should.

  36. Davyboy Says:

There will always be the dummies that just don’t know any better, huh Swiss? I guess they come by it naturally.

  37. Davyboy Says:

It’s funny how Patrick Mahomes can make the exact same jet sweep fumble in the playoffs and not play as good as Baker, not even close, but not a word is said about him…. and his receiver was in the correct position.
    Patrick Mahomes-76%, passer rating 127
    Baker Mayfield-83%, passer rating 146
Both with the exact same fumble. You gotta wonder, that’s an 8.5% better completion percentage and a 13% better passer rating!!!! Those are big differences, substantial 🤔

  38. garro Says:

    This team could be special!

I was impressed with the news that Baker had invited Emeka and his family out to brunch. To find out that all those O line guys had joined them impresses the hell out of this fan. This is a tight bunch!

Emeka and family have to be impressed as well me thinks.

Question arises though…Did the restaurant have enough food?

    Go Bucs!
