Another Haason Reddick Endorsement

This love caught Joe’s ear because it comes from a guy who trends a little curmudgeonly.
Joe’s referring to longtime ESPN NFL insider Sal Paolantonio, who is based in Philadelphia and is known for his candor. If he doesn’t like a guy, he’ll tell you. If he loves a guy, he’s got the guy’s back.
A guest on The JP Peterson Show today, “Sal Pal” was asked about the Bucs’ acquisition of edge rusher Haason Reddick.
Reddick was a star for the Eagles before getting a little disgruntled there and then traded to the Jets before last season. Reddick refused to report to work for the Jets until October. A terrible season followed.
As for “Sal Pal,” he’s not putting any of that negative noise on Reddick.
“Haason Redick, my guy, his career went off the rails obviously in New York. As a person, I love him. I love him. I think he’s great,” Sal Pal said. “I think he’s a great teammate. I think he’s great, everything about him. You know, the Jets’ reclamation projects are well documented; look what the Eagles did with Mekhi Becton. With the right coaching, the right attitude …”
Becton, a left tackle, was a Jets first-round pick in 2020. He shined as a guard for the Eagles last season and now has a Super Bowl ring and a fat new contract with the Chargers.
As the NFL Draft approaches tomorrow, Joe feels soothed by Paolantonio’s comments. The Bucs are desperate for an edge rush, and until it shows up on the field, it isn’t real.

Which is exactly why if Ezeiruaku is on the board at 19 – Jason should have that pick in King Goodell’s hands within 30 seconds….
Reddick is likelier than not a 1 year rental. An aging one at that….

Probably. But players tend to like it here. Most of the resignings over the last few years have been below market, like what Shaq did on his last contract. Reddick may have learned his lesson after last year’s debacle and re-sign on good but team-friendly contract.

This is a DT draft. Get the monster to rotate with Via, later get one that can sub for the other d linemen. Once you push up the middle the QB will need to move into the edge rusher or get sacked in the pocket. Also, an interior rush can limit those middle of the field soft zone completions

Reddick huh? Rewatched Bucs/Eagles 2023 playoff game. Got owned by Luke Goedeke. Non-factor for entire game. Hope JL grabs Hasson Reddick’s replacement.

Unless this dude has some sort of a epiphany with the team and the scheme and no state taxes, etc. He is NOT giving us a home town deal for his last big contract$ of his career…he’s not LVD who has been here his whole career…he owes us nothing. I just hope his play is so stellar he puts us in a bind of what to do

You watched 1 game. It is too small a sample size to make any determinations on the mans ability.
His stats from that 2023 season:
🏈Sacks: 11 (14th)
🏈Pressures: 68 (17th)
🏈Pass Rush Win Rate: 22% (7th)
🏈TFL: 13
So the rest of the season was pretty good. He was not “owned”

With all due respect it’s true his numbers for 2023 were decent but it’s also true as the eagles season was unraveling so was Riddicks production. He had a horrible lost jets season last year and a very quiet end to his Phillies career in 2023. Just trying to imprint to anyone who will listen it’s not so cut and dry that Riddick is going to ball out this season when he hasn’t in the last 1 and a half. We need a long term solution to edge and there’s a good chance Riddick isn’t it.

Riddick is a great TV broadcaster, didn’t know he doubled as a pass rusher and a Phillies player as well.

Reddick will be fine. Too many years of productivity to use one season as a proof that Reddick is somehow less than he’s proven. Think Licht may be a better judge of talent than the rest of us.

I agree with you totally. No clue if Reddick is going to ball or bust.
I have never watched “film” on him. Just felt like any representation that he is washed because he was “owned” in one game by an offensive lineman of the Bucs was simply a very incomplete take.

Ha ha ha….I almost agree with you. But I feel a strong middle linebacker would be an even better pick. Take away the run. Cover the crossing tight ends. Surprise blitzes. That takes the pressure off of the d-linemen and the nickel. All around better defense.

Yeah best case scenario is he returns to his dominant form and we grab a stud in the draft.. hopefully 3 or 4 studs… Lol. ..Could use help at DE, ILB, CB, NT… Hell anywhere on defence…. Go bucs !!!!
