“Stay Tuned”

June 6th, 2024

Rookie Jalen McMillan fever may be pulsating through One Buc Palace and sects of Bucs fandom, but the 2024 third-round pick will be battling a guy used to competing around super talented receivers.

Trey Palmer is all about football, as Joe learned in new ways listening to the second-year receiver on The Sick Podcast — Pirate Parlay

Palmer talked about grinding for this season — playing for his kids and family — as soon as the 2023 season ended. Now at One Buc Palace, Palmer said he will not be pigeonholed into a specific role and he’s learning all positions, and the whole offense in its entirety.

It’s going well, he said, noting new playcaller Liam Coen’s system is similar to what he ran at the University of Nebraska.

Don’t dare tell Palmer that his long touchdown catch-and-run and big game against the Eagles in the playoffs was his breakout game. That game hasn’t happened yet, Palmer said, “Stay tuned.”

Palmer added that he’s working on being more physical, more fluid and getting a better understanding of defenses overall. Multiple times Palmer said he’s always studying film on his iPad and trying to learn from great receivers.

Practice habits? Palmer said his former LSU football brothers, NFL stars Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson taught him how to practice at an elite level in college.

On and off field now, Palmer said Chris Godwin and Mike Evans are his big brothers always guiding him on being a professional in all ways.

The new kickoff rule could see Palmer get his shot, and he’s ready for the challenge. “I feel like if I get the ball in my hands I can do damage,” he said.

I’m tuning in… literally 7 receivers with ME, CG, Palmer, McMillan, Shepherd, Rachaad White, Bucky Irving and if Culp the TE is like a large receiver Mayfield has some resources to get the ball to….

    LFG

I’m sure that McMillan & Palmer are both competing for the #3 WR spot, but I’m not convinced that’s the best way to look at the 2 of them. They’re both very different receivers IMO with somewhat different talents, and I expect that Coen will find ways to maximize their specific talents. Personally it sounds like McMillan will be the better route runner, but that Palmer will be called upon more to take the top off the defense.

  4. David Says:

Palmer is going to have a breakout year as the main receiver opposite of Evans while Godwin is in the slot.
MacMillan will get a lot of playtime also but I expect Palmer to have the better year.

The Devin Thompkins release makes sense now with the latest news release regarding his personal life.

  6. JimBobBuc Says:

Palmer is a fast guy but can he reduce his drops and fumbles? Can he block in the run game?

  7. ^^mtn^^ Says:

Think Jalen & Trey end up platooning as 3rd WR.

Jarrett, Thompson & Shepard compete/ have the edge for WR 5 & 6

  8. Costa Rica John Says:

Every year the college receivers are getting better. Pretty soon you will be able to wait past the first round to get some elite players at this position.
Looks like Licht found two in the past two drafts. Go Bucs!

  9. RBUC Says:

A couple of Palmer’s drops were the result of reaching too hard to make a catch on Mayfield’s inaccuracate passes leading a little too far. Hoping Baker improves on his timing this season 🚩☠️!!

  10. SB~LV Says:

    Typical offseason player talk…
He’s a Buc and I hope he becomes great
He played according to his draft slot

    …….

sure buddy and I guess some of those drops are on Mayfield because he hit them in the wrong part of their hands.

    Well, that’s a revisionist view.

Mayfield was off a lot last year. That doesn’t mean Palmer doesn’t share responsibility on some too.

I really like the verbage coming out of One Buc Place. As Oddball said in Kelly;s Heros, “with so many positive vibes how can we go wrong.”

    @BootyLover – saw that.

    Disgusting if true.

    Raheem Jarrett is history also.

  17. BillyBucco Says:

It’s Rakim and per usual you are guessing based on limited knowledge.
They are very high on Rock.
You think a blown Achilles and torn ACL Shepard is taking his place?

  18. Dave Pear Says:

Billy Buschlight – Thompkins > Rahemm Jarrett.

    Thompkins was cut.

Bucs want to get bigger and stronger. Jarod was a Canoles guy, just like Thomppkinnz.

It’s likely hard for you to add two plus two.

    Please stop feeding the troll
If you stop feeding them they eventually go feed their sickness elsewhere.

    Go Bucs!
