More Crapping On The Bucs

May 29th, 2024

Bucs GM Jason Licht.

Joe’s heard rumors that Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht now has an intern dedicated to filing and organizing all the published and broadcast darts thrown at his team — and his quarterback.

Licht says he keeps receipts, so it makes sense that Team Glazer isn’t paying him millions to handle trash.

It seems the intern was busy this morning as more garbage arrived courtesy of Judy Battista, the former long-time New York Times NFL writer who has been with NFL.com for a decade or so.

She is very confident the Falcons, with Kirk Cousins and their six consecutive losing seasons (what a culture!), are better than Tampa Bay.

… … The two most fascinating quarterback rooms are going to provide plenty of intrigue this season. It’s fairly easy to imagine Cousins holding onto his job, even though the drafting of [Michael] Penix in the first round was a shock. Cousins typically plays at an extremely high level during the regular season, and he will be extremely motivated not to give the Falcons any room for doubt. Playing in the NFC South also gives Cousins a very easy path to winning the division and, for whatever it is worth, the Falcons are tied with the Saints for the easiest strength of schedule based on last year’s records. Cousins hasn’t played a down yet and he’s already the best quarterback in the division. … …

So there you have it. The Falcons have an “easy” path to win the NFC South, per Battista, and injured and old Cousins already is better than Pro Bowl QB Baker Mayfield.

I love Bulletin Board material. Keep them coming!

  2. drdneast Says:

The Falcons haven’t been the same since TB12 kneecapped then in the SB. A pall still hangs over the team like smallpox. Kurt Cousins, who has never won much of anything, is expected to drag this underachieving team into the playoffs. Good luck.

  3. Permanently Moderated Says:

Now it’s up to the Bucs to shove that opinion up a few behinds.

  4. Dude Says:

At this point we’ve been doubted so long I’d probably feel like getting positive attention from national media is some type of jinx. I like the underdog mentality it give us and rather us have that identity as team.

  5. BigMacAttack Says:

drdneast, that is so true. TB12 made them his B__ch in that game 😂

  6. BigMacAttack Says:

Rah, back in ATL, buy stock in strip clubs because the Falcons will be living there with their new HC

  7. Buchen61 Says:

Just like their is a media narrative in politics the same is true in sports and the narrative is to s*it on anything Baker Mayfield. Kinda like when Denver traded Tebow to the Jets after winning a playoff game to be a punt protector ? You can’t make this s*it up

  8. Doc Says:

So Licht is as thin skinned as Mayfield. Uh, OK.

  9. Mark Says:

The national media has the same agenda it always does – focus obsessively on the “big” brands (Dallas, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, the Giants, etc).

“Small market” teams will always get the same lazy, half-assed, non-analytical treatment. The Falcons are the victim of this as well: “7-9 + Cousins: INSTANT WINNERZ!” is about as far as these national media sources go. No mention that they were the 24th ranked defense (DVOA), added no difference-making players, and are led by a coach who gave the Rams (with HoF Aaron Donald) the 22nd ranked defense.

Barring injuries, I think it is reasonable to expect that the Bucs will improve, and certainly not impossible that they will better (even much better) than the Falcons.

  10. Lord Cornelius Says:

I’m with DLS – keep this BS coming it’s like extra powder for the cannons

  11. BillyBucco Says:

Just another woman and her ignorant thoughts on sports.
It’s just a copy and repaste narrative at this point.
No real news coming from her mouth this time of year.
    Well, really ever honestly.

  12. zzbucs Says:

Ring of honor general manager Jason Licht??

What is that supposed to mean?

  13. Fred McNeil Says:

She obviously wasn’t hired for her mind.

  14. Cobraboy Says:

I wonder how good Battista is at making sammiches better than she pronosticates.

  15. Buc4evr Says:

Loving it, hope the “Talking Heads” keep riding the same horse across the river until it drowns. Just like last year. Baker is tuned in and will make them pay. Just watch.

  16. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

Calling her take awful because she is a woman is lazy. If this came from a man would it be a better take? Women aren’t smart enough to understand a “man’s sport”? Come on. A clown is a clown regardless of what’s under the clown costume.

    Rant over. Go Bucs!

  17. Alstott40 Says:

Kirk Cousins has had a much better career and has been the better quarterback so far no question. However he’s coming off a serious injury at the age 36 now, it’s gonna be a major challenge to bounce back and lead their team to win the division. With that and Raheem morris I doubt they win anything

  18. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Keeping receipts? Does that include what all of us retired GMs and coaches comment on this here page?

  19. Fan of the South Says:

Cousins has had 4 Pro Bowl appearances in 12 seasons @ .333. Mayfield has had 1 in 7 @ .142. Actually Mayfield’s was as an Alternate and should count as 1/2 as all the real Pro Bowl QB’s were either in a Super Bowl, injured, or went fishing.

Perhaps Joe needs an intern to read over his post before he spends so much time and ends it so rediculously.

On average the QB/RB rankings in the NFCS are Saints 19/21 Bucs 19/26. Falcons 9/5. Put up a poll and ask who has a better Backfield and if answered honestly Cousins/Robinson would win by a mile.

If Joe gets an Edge Rush this season it might put Bucs in a better position but QB play will only move the needle over last year is if is poor.

Before Brady Bucs had 1 winning season in 9 so sell the Falcons short because the Bucs have had 3 winning seasons in the last 4 is a mistake.

Media may have been way wrong about the Bucs in 2023 but I don’t think they are when it come to their claim that the Bucs ride to the Division is not going to be difficult.

  20. BA’s Red Pen Says:

The Bucs are a better football team top to bottom than the Falcons. Barring injury the Bucs will win this division again.

  21. Oneilbuc Says:

If the bucs would have dominated the division last year like they should have than they wouldn’t be saying stuff like this about the bucs. Remember the saints won the same amount of games as the bucs . So if you want more respect from the media than dominate the division and you will get more respect. But at the same time who cares how the media feels about the bucs. That’s why as a fan base we need to stop celebrating 9-8 season even if we win the division. I remember the Seahawks went 7-9 and they beat the saints that was 13-3 and that was before Russell Wilson got their.

  22. Buckeyebuckchuck Says:

Cousins chokes in primetime .Baker doesn’t. Actually he ups his game. The Dirty Birds added a defensive head coach to max the talent on…a team that threw all it’s draft capital on offense with Pitts, Robinson and the Cali Tall Boy at WR. I’m not a believer. Licht been building the lines through the draft and FA. Bucs roll

  23. JD Still Says:

It is smart to take notes on what people outside your organization are saying about your organization , then take the time to review those comments ,because sometimes in tightly nit organizations tunnel vision can be formed, which can lead to disaster, group think is deadly.

  24. First Name Greatest Says:

You can tell how little the national media knows of this division and it’s teams.

  25. Shane Callahan Says:

Love this stuff! Keep doubting the Bucs!

  26. heyjude Says:

Wow, more garbage. I never heard of her either. It is so tiring hearing about Cousins over and over again. He could be benched for Penix. Is the sports media just fluffing him up for a huge fall?

  27. All_da_way Says:

Having the Bucs fly under the radar again is great.

  28. Wayne perez Says:

    She’s a dumbass anyway

  29. stpetebucfan Says:

I’m with everyone who loves the disrespect, keeps the Bucs focused!

Meanwhile I do not get this woman or ONeill (oh yeah he’s never recovered his hurt butt from the JW debacle) or Fan of the South.

Wow what short memories!!! Do our own Buc fans not remember that was Baker Mayfield’s debut with the Bucs last season, on the road in the loud Viking stadium with the Vikes all pumped up coming off a 13-4 record and looking to be a real contender?

Kirk Cousins started that game against Mayfield. IE a head to head competition. It was an EVEN battle if viewed objectively with Baker winning the battle of turnovers. Baker had NONE while Cousins had a pick to end the first half and make Izien look good! Cousins with more attempts and more yards, also a semblance of a run game averaging about 3.5 yards while White still learning Canales offense along with the OL average 2.25 yards!!!! Baker had ZERO support from the run game and pass pro from the new OL was not exactly exemplary.

So again conceding it’s just ONE game lets examine some facts!
It was a very promising Viking team forecast to go deep into the playoffs based largely on Cousins. It was a Bucs team on the road in one of the loudest stadiums adjusting to a new OC and a new QB. IE The Viking had EVERYTHING going their way.

Baker survived Canales horrid play calling, a 2.25 yard per run avg from the starting RB on 17 carries and managed to rack up a WIN in his first game with the Bucs!

So…perhaps somebody can dig up another Cousins-Mayfield matchup but in the most recent one, Baker has freaking scoreboard despite a ROOKIE OC who called a spit game and a 2nd year RB trying to gain yards behind a questionable OL and getting used to a brand new team.

THIS YEAR…it’s Cousins getting used to a brand new team…a team with a brand new coach and a team NOT coming off 13-4 but rather 7-10!

Yeah looking at those FACTS would lead me to believe the Falcons are a lock! LMAO

I guess Oneill missed that game or perhaps thought Baker should have put up more points on the road with a new OC, no running game and going into the game as -5 1/2.

  30. Jeffs grandpa Says:

    Judy’s a old battle axe

  31. NCBuc Says:

So just one question….. If Cousins chokes in prime time and Baker doesn’t…. Then was interception by BM in the last quarter with minutes left a choke or just a bad throw? To me it looked like he choked just by is body language. But I we can always look at it like most of the BM clan say and he lead us within a score of the NFC title game, or we that don’t believe BM is the best QB since sliced bread will keep thinking that he choked in his biggest game of his career.

  32. NCBuc Says:

Been a Bucs fan since I started watching the NFL as a kid. The fact that some are living in a dream thinking that we are just gonna push ATL over tend to forget that they beat us once last year and could’ve been twice with a sorry QB in Ridder. If you think Cousins, even an injured Cousins isn’t a huge upgrade….. Don’t be surprised. I’m all for we can beat anyone on any given day, but don’t let blinders fool you to thinking anyone is a pushover for us.

  33. SlyPirate Says:

    Not “easy”, Joe. “VERY EASY.”

NUMBERS EXPERTS DON’T SEEM TO KNOW …

    1. ATL hasn’t won the division in 7 years.
    2. ATL had the easiest schedule last year and finished 3rd in the NFCS.
    3. MINN was 4-4 with a healthy Cousins.
    4. ATL HC has 1 winning season in 4 years as HC.
    5. ATL’s OC & DC have 0 years of NFL OC & DC experience.
    6. Bucs have won the last 3x divisions + 1x Super Bowl.
    7. Bucs still have 9 players from the Super Bowl team.
    7. Bucs beat the defending NFC Champs in the 2023 playoffs 31-9.

  34. Bucnjim Says:

If Cousins is a statue back in the pocket he’s going to get reinjured. There is a reason no NFL team is interested in Stationary QBs. The backup may not have to wait long to show what he can do. Imagine a $180 million dollar injured QB

  35. Hodad Says:

Can’t wait till they bench Cousins for Penix.

  36. Dave Pear Says:

Osqueel, your takes would make a lot more sense if you didn’t post them. Just jabber to yourself in the restroom stall.

  37. Oneilbuc Says:

Steptebuc. Lol 🤣 another Internet thug grow up and again if you want respect from the media then win . Go dominate this weak division and you will get your respect. And as far as any of these players in today’s football I’m not a fan of none of them like you are a Baker Mayfield fan. All my favorite NFL players played in the 80s and 90s and early 2000s when football was football. The
only thing you do is cry about Baker Mayfield when someone criticize him. And when the season starts again when suck I’m going to say he played bad rather you like or not. Now go cry in your closet lol 🤣 🤣!!

  38. Dave Pear Says:

Try getting into a bathtub with a toaster Osqueel

  39. Oneilbuc Says:

Dave Pear. I know that’s what you want but I don’t wear rose color glasses for no player on this team. I call it like I see it not what I want it to be because a player played for my favorite college or even for the bucs. When Baker Mayfield played good I gave him his credit. When he sucked I said he played bad . And ain’t no one is going to stop me from speaking the facts about a player or a team.

  40. Defense Rules Says:

Judy Battista … ‘Playing in the NFC South also gives Cousins a very easy path to winning the division’.

Some great comments above, and they hit all the main issues. Yet I think that the Falcons ‘very easy’ schedule is what the national media are hanging their hat on in predicting Atlanta will win the NFC South more than anything else. Of course, we all know that there is no such thing as a ‘very easy path’ to anything in the NFL.

The Falcons face the Eagles, Chiefs, Saints & Bucs in their first 4 games … 4 teams with winning records in 2023. Then they face the Panthers, Seahawks, Bucs & Cowboys in their next 4 games … 3 teams with winning records in 2023. Their last 9 games admittedly get easier, but they could well be out of it by then.

Atlanta’s offense SHOULD however be significantly improved over their #26 ranking in 2026 (definitely underperformed). Atlanta’s defense played very well last year IMO (#18 ranking) … right up until the last 5 games (lost 4 of the last 5 games). And they invested 5 of their 8 draft picks on defense this year, including using Rnds 2, 3 & 4 for defensive linemen. So they SHOULD also do better this season. Still, you gotta play the games, and the Falcons haven’t had a winning record since 2017 nor been better than 3-3 in the NFC South since 2019. Reason? I think a big part of it has been due to too much instability in their coaching staffs (3 different HCs, 4 different OCs & 7 different DCs since 2018).

  41. Dave Pear Says:

Qsqueel now pulls out the “everyone sucks in today’s football everything was better in the old days” narrative.

Truth is, if Jason Licht listened to any of your drivel, the Bucs would still be losers and never have won the Lombardi in 2020. You’d rather “develop a quarterback” forever and lose. You obviously enjoy losing, it’s why you keep insisting on all the dumbarse squat you dribble out.

  42. Mark Says:

So, Cousins is better than the MVP of the Pro Bowl?

  43. heyjude Says:

Thank you for the reminder Mark. Yes, Baker was MVP of the pro bowl and they loved him there. Baker is still loved by fans from other teams, and our team respects him. He has so much going for him. The media makes Cousins sound like he the best QB ever. Not. I feel bad saying that about Cousins because he seems like a nice guy, but his stats aren’t that great and he is coming back from injury.

  44. Beeej Says:

If the Bucs can’t beat teams like Philly and Detroit, none of this winning the division stuff means anything anyway.

  45. Oneilbuc Says:

Dave Pear. So you believe that the bucs can win a superbowl with the offense on Baker Mayfield’s back?

  46. Dave Pear Says:

Idiotsqueel – what is most important is Jason Licht believes it. He knows more than me and a crap-ton more than you. .

Further to your slaptarded question, I hope the team is good enough collectively to not need any single player to put anything on their back. Team sport and all.

You should try swallowing the tailpipe of a running car .

  47. NCBuc Says:

So does Todd believe it Pear? You talk all this smack about Bowels, but defend decisions between bowels and licht. Can’t have it both ways fella!

Dave Pear. So you believe that the bucs can win a superbowl with the offense on Baker Mayfield’s back

Can’t answer for Dave but I say they can and they will ..go bucs

  49. PowerOfPewter Says:

IDK why we should care what some out of state blogger writes about the Bucs.

  50. Oneilbuc Says:

Dave Pear. I see talking to you is like talking to a child by calling people names and just because they disagree with you about a player. Man grow up because I can promise you the stuff you say you wouldn’t say it in no one face. I don’t care how you feel about Baker Mayfield or even the bucs it ain’t going to stop me from calling it like it is. Man grow up!!

  51. Dave Pear Says:

Hey osqueel – good! Bring on the bully “I’d kick your butt” stuff now. So scary! Oooh!!!

It’s obvious you think you know more than Jason Licht.

Send the Glazers your resume’, include your ideas on how to improve the team personnel. I bet it would do the Glazer family good to get a raucous belly laugh going, tears in their eyes, knee slapping, full on hilarity.

Tell them to bring back 2000 style football, when football was football, men were men and sheep were scared.

    Ever been with a sheep?

  52. Oneilbuc Says:

Dave Pear. I’m done talking to you again grow up and I will be in Tampa when they play saints.

  53. Dave Pear Says:

Right, forgot Osqueel, y’all is a Saints fan anyway. So good that they finally discovered the hidden gem that was your QB, JaMiss Winston. All those playoff wins JaMiss led them to.

Oh wait —. JaMiss is starting somewhere, where is that? Oh wait –

He’s backing up the Percy DuhShaun Watstone . in Cleveland.

Obviously, the. Bucs missed the boat by cutting ties with him. My how he has proven to be such a success.

    Oh, wait.

At least his last play as an Ain’t will always be remembered, for disrespecting the game and attacking a defense out of victory formation.

  54. All_da_way Says:

Cousins is a statue compared to other NFCS QBs. Evero, Bowles and Allen are all blitz heavy coaches. Six games of blitz heavy NFCS defenses is not a cake walk or easy.

This is why the national media doesn’t understand football.

  55. Peter Says:

She wrote for the NYT and she used the word extremely twice in the same sentence. That’s all I need to know. Thankfully, all of these prognostications are answered on the field. I love reading the stories and comments, but the players have the ultimate rebuttals. 2 time Super Bowl fan since ‘76.

  56. garro Says:

“Cousins hasn’t played a down yet and he’s already the best quarterback in the division.”

She ain’t the sharpest knife in the drawer now is she…

Judy, Judy, Judy said in my Cary Grant voice. NY Times to NFL.com? That is indeed the epitome of the Peter principal at work. The Times is a joke these days and NFL.com, thanks to folks like Judy, is quickly becoming the same.

    Go Bucs!

  57. heyjude Says:

@stpetebucfan – Great reminder and facts about Cousins and the Vikings.

  58. TOMMY MORDUE Says:

I’ve been a BUCCANEER FAN since the very beginning..for some reason reason since our franchise had such a disastrous beginning ( 0-26 ) & became so nationally synonymous with losing in 1976 &77, WE have never been given the credit our team deserves on the national level, it’s just a fact..But,with that being said, how many of the 32 teams have actually played in & WON THE SUPER BOWL in all the years each team has been in existence? BUFFALO & MINNESOTA are the 1st two teams that come to mind, but how many other teams have never made it to a SUPER BOWL much less actually WON ONE !..read NFL HISTORY folks..the TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS ARE 2 & 0 !..do the math on your favorite teams before throwing shade on”OUR TEAM”..

  60. Mike C Says:

Oneilbuc smh why you always so wrong?

  61. Oneilbuc Says:

Dave Pear. All you do is cry when someone is objective about Baker Mayfield. I don’t care about what know one say this is not a superbowl roster

  62. Oneilbuc Says:

Mike C. You just keep your rose color glasses on that blinds you from the truth. Again Baker is a inconsistent quarterback that’s been proven on 4 different teams. Again if he plays good I will give him credit but when he plays bad I’m going to say it regardless of the excuses you give him. The bucs ain’t winning a superbowl or even going to a superbowl and I will bet you right now if you want to put some money on it if you think this team going to the Superbowl this year ? The only thing I can see for the bucs and it will be a good season they have to at least get to the NFC championship. It’s NFC championship or bust .

  63. Mike Says:

Disney world is getting a new roller coaster 🎢 the baker surprise ride because you are never going to know what you are getting week to week but you definitely know there will be a Lot of ups and downs. As baker says win or lose I’m just having fun.

  64. Dave Pear Says:

I just looked up Oneailtard in the dictionary. There was a graphic photo of two dudes being fond of each other. Explains a lot about the resident boytard.
