It Won’t Be Tampa Bay

May 13th, 2024

Erase the Bucs playing on NFL “Opening Night” against the defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs in Kansas City.

That option was on the table until this morning, when the NFL announced it will be the Chiefs hosting the Ravens on Thursday, Sept. 5 to kick off the 2024 season.

Hopefully, the Ravens’ next game isn’t a road game in Tampa, a trip they will make this year. The last thing the Bucs need is Baltimore heading to town with extra rest.

As for when the Bucs play in Kansas City this season, Joe doesn’t care, although a December or January game has a great chance to be miserable weather at ancient Arrowhead Stadium.

As Joe has stated on the Ira Kaufman Podcast, and Sage Ira agreed, the preferred opening day matchup for the Bucs would be the Atlanta Falcons. Joe would love nothing more than to see wounded Kirk Cousins early in the season — and to end the endless national media blubbering about the Falcons being better than the Bucs.

    super bowl or bust !!!!

And the Oddsmakers already have action lined up with the Ravens being 3 point underdogs on the road.

Should the Bucs play the Falcons week 1 on the road as 3 point dogs a lot of folks could make their year on one bet.

Could be a Mayfield/Cousins rematch from 2023 but a Cousins Remember Me game vs Washington w/ Jayden Daniels might be a better draw.

If that is the case the League will give the Bucs a potential ‘easy one’ vs their old offensive Coordinator.

I’d like to see a Falcons opener for sure.

  5. SlyPirate Says:

Falcons and/or Carolina early would be fantastic. Philly or Detroit would make sense if the NFL is looking for rematches.

  6. Hodad Says:

Thank God. Who wants to open on Thursday night on some pay app channel? Give me a division foe on a hot Sunday home opener any day.

  7. BucsFan Says:

Would prefer a couple of difficult non conference non division games to start.

  8. Beeej Says:

I don’t want ANY national games –we lose our advantage of making dome/Northern teams suffer in the brutal Tampa heat, trading that advantage for a 8pm start

  9. DBS Says:

I don’t want any night games. Let all the other teams have them.

Would love the Falcons up first. We’ll see. Interesting that KC and the Ravens are kicking it off. One of the links somewhere was about not “wasting” that game for game one. If I remember correctly someone was thinking the Bengals would be the preferred game. The biggest question of course is whether Taylor will be there or not.

It would be nice to fry up some dirty birds early!

Surprised on the Chiefs/Ravens. Hoping for the Falcons too.

You know it WILL be Ravens at Bucs week 2…schedule makers hate the Bucs!
    Bring it on!
    Go Bucs!

  14. Timbucs2 Says:

I could see Eagles being week 1, with the playoff rematch. But I’m guessing the powers that be wouldn’t dare give the Eagles an opening day away game matchup.

Whoever it is just be “Tennessee Ready”. I mean not…

  18. Saskbucs Says:

Now I am certain it’s Ravens at Bucs week 2. Falcons would be ideal week 1, take advantage of the coaching and QB turnover early in the season. Get them in the first 3 weeks and I am happy.

  19. David Says:

I would love to see them Play all their division opponents within the first six weeks. Then play them all again in the last six weeks. I know doing this schedule is hard enough, but that would be ideal for the division rivals in my mind.

  20. unbelievable Says:

Doubt we play the Falcons week 1… only because it seems like the NFL has been purposefully scheduling as many divisional matchups as possible for later in the year in the last few recent seasons.

  21. Booger Says:

Watch em put the Bucs up against Detroit on Monday Night, then give us ATL on a short week for Week-2. I too, said on here over a week ago, that I wanted ATL at home Week-1… Would love to see a Rookie QB starting his first NFL Game on the ROAD of a Division Opponent, & with a new Coach/staff. There’s a REAL chance that Cousins will still not be fully ready by Week #1 is what I’ve been hearing.
