Tom Brady Bribed Teammates

April 17th, 2024

The Saints were famous for their Bountygate scandal that saw players earn under-the-table cash for knocking out opponents with ferocious hits.

The Bucs had a less scandalous cash incentive system during the Tom Brady years, orchestrated by Brady himself.

Retired Bucs guard Ali Marpet (2015-2021) spilled details during his visit to the Wam Bam podcast in December.

Unfortunately, Marpet didn’t reveal the year(s) to which he was referring, but he said it began when “at one point our screen game was absolutely abysmal as an offense.”

So seeking a screen-game fix, Brady, per Marpet, led independent meetings with the offense to try and repair the issues.

Apparently, Brady got impatient.

“[Brady] took our starting offensive line to the side and he’s like, ‘Hey, if you guys can get a screen to go for more than 15 yards, I will give you $1,000 cash each,'” Marpet said.

Marpet continued, sharing Brady’s words — and his disbelief.

“‘That is for you guys; so every time that we get that, I will be happy to make that payment,'” Marpet said Brady told the starting linemen.

“Are you kidding me? Like a little extra juice, so those kinds of things [Tom did to motivate].”

Marpet implied multiple screen plays of more than 15 yards ensued — and multiple payments for a job well done.

“There were definitely multiple 15,” Marpet added, cutting off himself after the No. 15.

“So those kinds of things. Again, Tom just knowing how guys are wired and what goes a long way and inspiring and getting the most out of his guys.”

Hell of a story. Joe can only imagine how much cash the actual running back got for executing a screen of 15-plus yards.

Joe hasn’t spent too much time reviewing film, but in late December of 2020, the Bucs were blasted for their “atrocious” screen game by former Bucs tight end Anthony Becht. He’s now a successful head coach in the United Football League.

Three weeks later against Washington in the playoffs, the Bucs beautifully executed a 22-yard screen pass to Leonard Fournette.

Perhaps fans can find more examples of what may have represented a nice bonus check for the Bucs’ offensive line.

JoeBucsFan.com texted a former Bucs coach to ask about Brady throwing cash incentives around One Buc Palace. The verbatim response was a smile emoji and the comment, “Ali ain’t lying.”

    Noice!!! Take note Baker.

  3. Dave Pear Says:

Love that! With Bowels now at the helm, we need more players to assert that kind of leadership.

  4. A Bucs Fan Says:

I wonder if thatโ€™s why LVD and White were doing the same thing during the same time period?

  5. elite bucs Says:

Brady rules. I miss that era so much already

  6. heyjude Says:

Love it. The Goat is definitely a great motivator.

    Thank you Joe!

  7. SlyPirate Says:

If it wasn’t an offense to NE, TB12 would be in Tampa’s ROH

  8. Crickett Baker Says:

    Great story! TY

  9. Marine Buc Says:

If the Bucs win the Super Bowl I will give every starting O-lineman a $25 Dave and Busters gift card and a bag of Cheetos.

    The GOAT!!!

    and a legend.

    and leaves a big shadow.

shame this coach used him as a scapegoat to try and motivate the team rather than emulate him. friggin moron of epic proportions.

  13. Thisisouryear!! Says:

We’ve got 2 Super Bowls here in Tampa. He’s responsible for one via motivation and attracting every available worthwhile player. He belongs in the ring of honor.

  14. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Boss, I don’t care for Bowles a heck of a lot, but when did he use Brady as a scapegoat?

  15. BradyBucs Says:

I loved the Brady Bucs era. I felt Bucs Organization Jason Licht fans just everybody was using Brady for motivation. Basically it was implied Brady is gone now we are a team again and more together. Also the narrative saying everyone said they couldnt win out Brady. They had to bother Brady with dopey Todd Bowles with his passive aggressive shots at Brady.

Gisele is the reason year 3 went to h-ll. He wasnt washed he was unfocused because he realized he married the worlds worst person.

I hope Bucs fans now realize the circus Brady was dealing with his final year in Tampa. Tabloids blamed said Brady was a bad husband selfish person and a bad father. Gisele leaked all this 2 media. Every loss Social Media would say Brady gave up his family to lose to the Browns. Brady lost 27 pounds never said a negative word about his ex wife. Brady took the high road. Finally the truth is coming out about all the lies the Gisele was spinning.

    A good laugh for me.

Guess our NFL team doesnโ€™t pay linemen well enough. ๐Ÿ˜

  19. BucDaWorld Says:

So millions of dollars being made is not enough incentive to do your job correctly, the QB has to come out of his pocket as well….smh!

  20. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

Brady is a very smart and highly motivated and successful person. Do you notice itโ€™s always within the rules. He would have made one hell of an attorney imo.
That deflategate was utter cockiepoo schemed up by good ole Roger himself imo. Probably out of jealousy imo.

  21. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

And btw, why doesnโ€™t someone pick up Lenny? He can be had for a dance?

  22. Timbo Slice Says:

Imagine getting paid millions and needing incentives to do your job.

Glad it worked and led to a SB, but definitely shows you what we were working with pre-Brady. Honestly kind of a shame and shows how complacent and lazy this team can be.

  23. Buccup Says:

“Bribed”…??? More like, “incentivized.” Bribery carries such a negative connotation. It could also have been called, “redistribution of wealth.”

  24. HC Grover Says:

Oh No! Call Fanny and arrest him.

  25. Tucker Says:

Just because of what they get payed it isnt any less of a grind, some people are so bitter and jealous. In the grind to find little things like this to motivate the guys to endure the grind that’s why Brady was so great he understood the game as only a player can.

  26. Olboy Says:

First rule of economics: rational folks respond to incentives. Not a bribe, joe

  27. Irishmist Says:

Mayfield needs to reinstitute the policy now that he can afford it.

  28. D-Rok Says:

Brady had moxie. Not in the “I’m gonna run over you for a first down,” but in the “WE are gonna get THAT first down, one way or another.” It’s called being a leader, classic Motivation 101 tactics. Master.

  29. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Ridiculous.

  30. BakerBucs says Says:

All u guys give cover to Brady he was & is a convicted cheat how the hell do u support a cheat plus he bribed his fellow teammates how the hell do u say that is a good thing be a leader not a cheater

  31. BakerBucs says Says:

How the hell do u bribe a guy with a 1000 $ when they make millions sounds stupid as hell

  32. BakerBucs says Says:

U people on this site r morons for real

  33. SB Says:

^^^ What Bakers Bucs said! I build $1,000,000+ houses. My guys are paid well to say the least as am I. Do you really not think we don’t work harder for incentives?

Some of you guys need to stick to asking people if they would like fries with that order.

  34. Mike sargent Says:

Stay retired Brady. You arrogant crap. Paying for hitting intensive. Shows your morals. It’s a kids game for gods sakes. Hurting people. You’re a piece of crap. STAY RETIRED

  35. Oddball Says:

I wonder how much Lenny got paid to blowup Parsons.

That block was a thing of beauty.

After this article, I know Lenny got paid.

  36. Tamara Says:
