Rachaad White Chasing Efficiency

April 17th, 2024

Focused on improved YAC.

Joe gives Rachaad White props. The man knows what he needs to work on.

Joe’s not going to harp on how White was No. 42 in yards after contact per rush last season. Rather, Joe will praise White for not just knowing this but isolating it as an area he must improve.

The first task in overcoming an issue is to admit there is an issue. White does, as he spoke on Monday to the local pen and mic club at One Buc Palace.

“Right now, I’m not where I want to be in my career yards per carry-wise and things like that,” White said. He added his goal is “just being an efficient running back.

“I think, for me, that’s [what] the biggest next step is, ‘OK, he’s efficient.’ The efficient running backs over the [course] of time – like I said, I study the game a lot – they average at least 4.0-4.1 [yards per carry] and above. Guys like Walter Payton.

“It’s tough, it’s hard. Everybody has had seasons where they average 3.0-something yards per carry due to whatever circumstances. The biggest thing for me is just studying the game, just understanding it and being efficient this year.”

Joe again applauds White for circling this as a goal. And White is right about efficiency.

So far, White is far more than efficient catching the ball out of the backfield. He may be elite. But to be a well-rounded efficient back, White has to do better on the ground, especially not going down so easily.

Efficient backs seem to have longer careers. And a longer career for White likely means more visits to the Team Glazer vault.

White’s issue is “yards after contact”
    In his defense.
There is running thru an Arm tackle, when you are at full speed, and pucking up another 5 yards.
    Thats not White’s Experience.
Due to our incompetent center and Left Guard getting blown up on every play,
White was getting hit in the backfield.
He isnt given a chance to get up to speed.
    Evidence?
Watch White catching passes in the flats. He makes moves, he breaks tackles.

The inexcusably bad play of Hainsey and Stennie are the reason our Running game is ranked 32.
We were last place when Leonard Fournette was the back.

Fix the damn lines. Run game and secondary play will improve dramatically, when we get competent players in front of them.

Nice job Rachaad – making your point but avoiding throwing your interior offensive linemen under the bus.

Seems pretty much everyone except this Joe knows that Feiler/Stinnie, Hainsey and an inexperienced Mauch were the “circumstances” that White is referring to….

    FIX the OLine!

The Bucs will be a much more complete team and average 25+points per game almost immediately if Licht can just find us two above average interior Linemen to fill the need at LG and Center. Mauch will be fine at RG.

Draft one high and trade for the other if you have to…. but ‘fixing” the OLine with authority is priority #1 this offseason.

Accomplish this, and the Bucs win 11 or more games and become legit Super Bowl contenders.

    Git-R-DONE Jason.

Please make it stop. He has done very little and his stats are worth of a #2 back. Please no more post until this guy does something in a game worth consuming disk space.

    Steve,
Guess Former probowl RB Leonard Fournette forgot how to run 2 years ago?
32nd in rushing when he was our lead back also.

  5. Lord Cornelius Says:

4.0+ YPC should be average not elite or great

    Walter Payton was 4.4
    Adrian Peterson 4.6

Jamaal Charles was 5.4 for his career. That guy was a legend. Did that through so many different types of teams that weren’t great. Elite RB talents can rise above their situation.

-That’s totally because of the O-line.
    -That stat is an average.
-Because of the total lack of run-blocking.
-Rachaad must be No.1 in getting hit behind the line and/or at the 2 yard line because of being ordered by Bowles to relentlessly run it up the middle with consistently zero holes or assist in any way by the O-line.

In fact, Joe’s disingenuous, wrong and unfair manipulation of the facts demonstrates the opposite of his (Joe’s) statement: it shows that Rachaad had good rushing-numbers per game (when there was that rare hole in the O-line) despite there usually being zero O-line support.

And finally, Joe stated that Rachaad agreed with him with regard to where to improve. Rachaad did nothing of the kind. Rachaad said he needs improvement in yards per carry in getting his average up to 4+ yards per carry.

Joe, once again used the truth like silly putty: yards per carry is a totally different aspect of his running game than
    yards after contact.

In fact, Rachaad’s yards per carry is far lower than his total performance-level, again, because of the O-line; but then, Rachaad would have to criticize his own teammates if he were to point this out; that’s not his job, it’s Bowles’ and Joe’s.

Fully agree with Cpt. Tim once again.

I guess those 9 touchdowns he scored last year didn’t help us win any games, did they?

  10. Ramon Benitez Says:

White has talent, just gotta let him grow a bit in the system and let him figure out how HE wants to present himself and his style. He already is an asset catching, getting his run game going and watch out. A true 3down back!!!

come on rachaad has a shot at being a superstar if he comes flying out the gate this season…

he started slow last year and picked up steam as the season wore on…

he was averaging 3.0 to 3.2 yards a carry for like half the year…and slowly brought it up to 3.7 and then finally finned out at like 3.6…

it’s not easy to bring the average up like that, after so many carries without a couple 75 to 80 yard runs – and he didn’t have any…

he has a shot at being a stud or star played and might be in line for like 1700-1800 yards this year…

    let’s see

  12. Buccos Says:

Barry Sanders career average is 5.0 ypc. His worst season was 4.3 ypc and he averaged 1,527 yards per season in a 16 game season. He averaged 99.8 yards per game. The best running back I’ve ever seen and yes I have seen him in person
