Locker Room Assets

April 2nd, 2024

More than just football value.

The Bucs have two guys who Joe believes someday should be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Of course, Joe is referring to linebacker Lavonte David and wide receiver Mike Evans. The two are still playing high-level, above-the-rim kinda ball. They’d be critical pieces for any team.

But Albert Breer of SI.com, with his articles appearing on AthlonSports.com (long story, don’t ask), believes the Bucs re-signed these guys not just because of their talent on the field. It was also their leadership the Bucs believed they couldn’t spare.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have re-signed two veterans this offseason with a combined 22 seasons of experience in the organization, in Mike Evans and Lavonte David. And I would not underestimate the value of the institutional knowledge those guys bring to the locker room. It’s a huge asset for Todd Bowles, the same way having Jason Kelce, Lane Johnson, Brandon Graham and Fletcher Cox has been the last three years for Philadelphia Eagles coach Nick Sirianni.

And that makes sense. The Bucs have talented young players. Just look at most of the rookies last year. Calijah Kancey, Cody Mauch, YaYa Diaby, Trey Palmer, Christian Izien — all starters. And if the Bucs have another strong draft class this month, who knows, maybe three more starters are found.

With so many young guys, it’s good to have them surrounded by savvy vets who are not just good players, but good people and winners at the end of the day.

I am with you on all of it, and it is definitely leadership on the field. Crossing my fingers for a good draft now.

    Wisdom is knowledge.

  3. BucU Says:

A successful draft is essential this season especially since we didn’t do much in free agency other than signing our existing players back.
Need 3 home runs from Licht.

Wisdom is knowledge’s older and wiser brother who’s been through some stuff and knows a thing or two about life.

I know I’m getting older because my knowledge starts to turn into wisdom, or at least that’s what I tell myself to make me feel better about forgetting where i left my keys.

It’s why DWhite was allowed to walk away – finally we care about character

As much as I hated on Todd, he has changed my mind largely due to his handling of this situation- the playoff win didn’t hurt either

It is called building a winning culture. Heart, determination, desire to win, You can’t buy that. Ask Brady, ask Jordan. That (and talent) is what was missing during the lost decade)

The eagles are maybe a bad example given what happened to that TEAM this season.

    Geno

Always love your posts but this one hit me personally. LOL

“I know I’m getting older because my knowledge starts to turn into wisdom, or at least that’s what I tell myself to make me feel better about forgetting where i left my keys.”

An additional benefit to that wisdom Geno as you age..CAN be relaxation and contentment. I’ve seen surveys that the happiest age cohort are folks in their 70’s.

I agree with Steve Martin’s observation about what happens to folks as the age.
They become more extreme examples of their youngers selves. Edgy folks get downright nasty…”get off my lawn you kids”…positive folks become more relaxed. IMHO it depends a lot on how you’ve spent your life. If you’re OK with your effort you should be massively happy! You certainly gain a lot more perspective. My life is now informed by that great poem the late Congressman Elijah Cummings read at a House hearing. It’s how I lead my life now that my age has made me aware I’m on the homestretch but I wish I had learned it in my 30’s…wasn’t ready in my wild 20’s. LOL

I have only just a minute,

    Only sixty seconds in it.

Forced upon me, can’t refuse it.

Didn’t seek it, didn’t choose it.

    But it’s up to me

    to use it.

I must suffer if I lose it.

Give account if I abuse it.

    Just a tiny little minute,

    but eternity is in it.

You all do realize following one player in particular has gotten us zero SB’s right?

Just pointing out the obvious. My question is why. People really are that stupid I guess.

Hey Loss you do realize the Bucs won a Super Bowl in 2020 and we still have players on the team from that season. What is wrong with you ? Has your life been that full of negativity ?

  14. JimBobBuc Says:

I think it was Edmunds who said last year’s rookies got full of themselves after the 3-1 start, and didn’t get better during the bye week. After the Bye, the offense was not good – where were our offensive leaders from the SuperBowl during the Bye? Our experienced players, on both sides of the ball, need to be aggressive, vocal leaders in the locker room.

  15. Boss Says:

    @proud…

    yeah, I have been a D as of late…..

quit a 20 year anxiety med 5 weeks ago. coming out of it now though.

I think Mike is a great WR when used properly. i.e. like brady did..even if using him for a decoy a lot of times.

problem is with average QB’s and them just fixing on Mike. Well that and the huge drops. So, it’s a combo of me being an absolute asshole for over a month now and feeling we should have moved on from Mike.

Guess I can’t blame Mike, but I do like the way this offense hums when they look past mike…even if it is because he teaked a hammy, or CG’s wife is pissed. the offense is more balance and more effective with other people being the focus and him being what he is. a vertical threat.

  16. JimBobBuc Says:

Mike’s 1K streak got attention from his QB’s, both Brady and Mayfield, because they want ME to get his 1K. Sometimes I think we force it to Mike and miss better opportunities. I like the idea of spreading the ball around, it keeps all the receivers in the game and focused, and it keeps the defense guessing re-thinking double teams.

  17. Larrd Says:

Didn’t the Eagles kind of implode last year?

I doubt LVD makes it. Has he made a pro bowl? Wirfs, if he stays healthy.
