“He Has A Nasty Temperment”

April 25th, 2024

Best of both worlds?

Want to play offensive line for the Bucs? You better be either head and shoulders better than anyone else or you better be a nasty SOB.

But could a possible future senator be a nasty SOB? Well, Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht seems to think so.

New Bucs center Graham Barton went to Duke. So already he’s smarter than most of us. On top of that, he interned for North Carolina U.S. Senator Tom Tillis. Not only does this guy have brains, but he’s got serious contacts.

In other words, Barton is a dangerous man.

But, Licht said, Barton isn’t just a buttoned-up white-collar professional. He’s a nasty SOB with Ali Marpet’s personality. Licht even invoked former Bucs center Ryan Jensen’s name in breaking down Barton.

“He has the tools to do it all,” Licht said of Barton at One Buc Palace tonight. “It is an ingredient we all look for in an offensive line. He is a very athletic guy. He plays with a nasty temperament.”

Barton seemed to be Licht’s dream pick. A pick he had been planning on since midseason 2023.

“Interior offensive line in general, we wanted to get more physical,” Licht said. “This is something Todd [Bowles] and I talked about since the middle of last year.”

So now the Bucs have a nasty center. Now they need a reliable running back.

And yes, they still need a pass rush

    Jensen 2.0

It’s about time we helped our offense with our first pick…..5 of the last 7 were defensive front 7 picks.

I’d like to see a WR & RB picked tomorrow….and yes Edge also.

  3. OR Buc Says:

Edge, RB, CB/LB tomorrow. I just hope we don’t have a year lag for him to be good. Would’ve preferred DL, but it’s a solid pick at 26.

  4. Hearty Dikerson Says:

Graham Barton is Ali Marpet on steroids.

Don’t be surprised if we also draft Mason McCormick in the 3rd.

2nd round will be either Utah Elliss or Colorado State Kamara

  5. Cometowin2 Says:

Edge, CB and RB on next 3 picks!

  6. MadMax Says:

Still need CB too….man, if Dejean fell to us in the 2nd (he wont)…

but anyways two 3rds for RB Estime and DE Kamara unless we use one to trade up for Dejean.

  7. Cobraboy Says:

    He’s big. Nasty.

    But is he ugly?

  8. Cobraboy Says:

Need one more serious IOL and I will be happy.

  9. Cometowin2 Says:

    B. Allen RB from Wisconsin in round 3 with Barton will fix the running game. Hopefully we already have a starting quality Left Guard. Maybe Kneeland at Edge in round 2.

  10. OR Buc Says:

Cobraboy- you do realize we signed 2 IOL in FA right?

  11. Ricki Says:

Joe he got into Duke because of those contacts so maybe he is as smart as the rest of us.

  12. Bucs Guy Says:

    2nd rd Edge
    3rd WR and ILB
    4th rd Power RB

Let’s grab a CB, Edge, and WR in no particular order.

  14. Hearty Dikerson Says:

Good, hopefully this speaks to Licht learning to stop drafting weak players…JTS, Hall, Hainsey..

Braswell in 2nd would be a perfect start to day 2!

I’m not even in the closet anymore.

I’m out of the closet, thumping the Penix with a bottle of scotch over this pick.

    @ Hearty Dickerson:

Mason McCormick is seriously underlooked by most (not Licht I’m sure) but it’s looking like he could be there in the 6th. Penn State’s Nourzad has 20 lbs on him and is quicker with better arm length and wing span.

  18. firethecannons Says:

I know I’m a broken record about this. We need Trey Benson tomorrow. Whatever it takes–it needs to happen. We need a corner later too.

    wth?

    @OR: Never enough.

  21. Esteban85 Says:

Joe I think Licht said he had the personality of a Tristan Wirfs. A little bit of Ali Marpet a little bit of Ryan Jensen and the personality of Tristian Wirfs.

  22. Esteban85 Says:

WR round 2! Franklin from Oregon or Keon Coleman from you know where.

  23. Bojim Says:

We neede to replace Jensen’s mean attitude.

  24. HA-HA-HA Says:

    Best player available.
That is either WR or corner.
Keep building the offense, it’s that kind
    of a draft.

  25. NCBucsFan Says:

Interned for Thom Tillis…good man, Republican.
