Dream Draft Pick Visited The Bucs

April 10th, 2024

“Cryin’ won’t help ya; prayin’ won’t do ya no good.”

OK, Jason Licht is trolling Joe now.

There is no way Florida State beast edge rusher Jared Verse would ever be available at No. 26, would he? There’s no way the Bucs’ AC/DC-loving general manager would give up the farm to trade up to get Verse, would he?

Of course not, unless Licht plans to plant stories about Verse living an alternative life in Eastern Europe that is both seedy and distasteful. Sort of like Jason Bourne gone bad.

So it seems Licht is directly teasing Joe as this week Licht and the Bucs hosted Verse on one of the team’s 30 official visits, per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

Lord knows how badly the Bucs need an edge rush (Joe gets the hunch the Bucs don’t exactly agree with this view). And Verse is exactly the kind of dude the Bucs need. He can run around tackles and he can bullrush them right into a quarterback.

Verse sort of reminds Joe of what a college version of Reggie White might be. Need to use power? Cool. Need to use speed and finesse? Will do.

This guy Verse has a full toolbox.

There just isn’t any way Joe can see Verse past No. 15 unless he’s caught wearing a bong mask a couple of hours before the draft begins.

If somehow, someway Licht was able to draft Verse without giving up the farm, Joe would get drunk for a full week.

I dunno how much it would cost to trade from No. 26 into the low or mid teens, but I’m guessing the Bucs don’t want to spend that much capital to do so.

  2. Pickgrin Says:

    #26 + #89 gets the Bucs up to #20.

That’s about as far as Licht can trade up in the 1st rd without ‘giving away the farm’ for 1 player….

If either Verse or Latu makes it to 20 – it would be wise to try and move up to draft him.

Either would be excellent value for the cost of a #20 overall draft pick.

Latu is the better pass rusher btw….

  3. Show Me the TDs Says:

What an ego. Yeah, Licht is wasting a visit to tease a TMZ type sports blogger with delusions of grandeur. Gimme a break.

  4. JimBobBuc Says:

A diversion, Licht is going OL with #26.

  5. Usfbuc Says:

I have run a ton of draft sims and Verse regularly slips to 26. It could easily happen in real life too. Some mocks have five QBs going in rd 1, all have four QBs going in rd 1. Throw in 2 edge before him, a few WR, the top center, and. Few of each other position and suddenly Verse has slipped down the draft.

I’ve personally developed over 15 Super bowl winning teams. I did it in a sim named Madden

  7. Capt Ahab Says:

I’m an FSU guy, Im not trading up for Verse if I’m Licht. If he falls, then all good. Verse was inconsistent as a pass rusher. Great games and no shows.

  8. SB Says:

    Verse in the First
    Pearsall in the Second.
    Davis in the Third.
You can take it from there Mr. JL.

  9. Joe in Michigan Says:

I hope the Bucs get Verse, or someone else who is good at football.

  10. MadMax Says:

I wonder why the kicker hasnt visited…..hmmm

we’re going kicker so just chill

Your kicker “jokes” are old and stale.

  12. Stanglassman Says:

Last year I was sure Verse was going to be the Bucs 1st pick. I knew how good he was and hoped he didn’t play too well towards the end of the season. As the Bucs won games and he kept playing well I’ve come to accept it’s an unrealistic dream. I would trade up for him but nothing more than their 1 & 2. Not for Latu, his medicals scare me too much.

  13. heyjude Says:

This is great news! Verse is on the wish list. I would love to see him as a Buc.

Agree with Stanglassman and others –
Latu’s neck injury was very serious. It happened during practices. He was told to medically retire at the time. Latu had surgery and UCLA gave him medical clearance. All of it scares me and not just for the upcoming draft, but for his own future health and body.

  14. Hodad Says:

The Rams lost the best DT in the NFL and they draft Latu? Not if the DT from Texas is still on the board.

  15. juan Says:

FSU grad Joe always gets hyped about FSU players.

  16. Jeremy Goins Says:

You guys have way to much time on your hands to be running mock draft picks and knowing that pick 20 is as high as we can pull off. Get a life. It would be great if we can nail a Center and a edge rusher in the draft. Go BUCS !!!!!

  17. Usfbuc Says:

@Tony not sure why I got a silly response from you on my comment since literally all of the “professionals” do the same thing. They look at perceived team needs and they walk through hypothetical situations where they pick the next teams draft pick based on who is left. The only thing a draft sim can’t factor in is human emotion.

  18. Usfbuc Says:

@Jeremy – There is a chart that at least some teams have used for years that provides a number value to a pick that people are using to come up with these possible draft scenarios.

Also if somebody enjoys something let them enjoy it. I am sure that you wouldn’t care for somebody telling you to get a life and downplay your hobby you put time into.

  19. Conner50 Says:

Jared Verse will be picked by the stinking dixie chicks since Raheem Morris is a defensive minded head coach I just got that feeling. Really hope they don’t pick him because I believe this dude will be a force in the nfl, but we got a dude name Wirfs who he would have to go through so that’s peace of mind if he does go to Atlanta. Doubt Licht can afford to move up and get Verse but if we was to move up he would be the guy to get

  20. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

Anyone who takes time to tell someone else to get a life – needs to get a life. Looking at you Jeremy.

Being that I just took time for that comment – clearly I need to get a life.

  21. ocala Says:

Verse would be an incredible pick for the Bucs, but there is decent chance he goes in the top 10, so unless he falls to 20 I do not see how the Bucs can reasonably trade up to get him.

  22. rrsrq Says:

I would trade up (but I am not the GM of either team), give up the 1st and our 2nd 3rd) but they would have to throw in another low round pick, maybe even next year. This is if he falls past 13

  23. BA,s Red Pen Says:

I don’t know what coming in for a visit means, the Bucs didn’t bring in Kancey last year and drafted him first…who knows

  24. MadMax Says:

Just for you joeinmich….and the longest fg in bucs history is what?

  25. ChiBuc Says:

“Joe would get drunk for a full week.”

Reliving St. Patty’s week. I’d be more impressed by a dry May

  26. ChiBuc Says:

We can easily photoshop a bong mask, but I’d put it on Latu… health concerns be d@mbed

  27. Shane Callahan Says:

He’d be great, but the team has too many other needs to give up too much to move up.

  28. Cleanhouse Says:

Verse is the best player in a generation- trade up all you can to get him-

Imagine Verse, Kancey and Vea together.

  29. Nicholas Carlson Says:

    Trade up and get him!

  30. Big bucks Says:

Trade down to 13th spot giving upp 1st &3rd and tryu De

  31. Noclu4u Says:

Not a dream pick . Jackson Powers Johnson is the dream pick . He is another Wirfs at his position .He will be the best center in the NFL the day he steps on the field as a pro .
    As always Go BUCS .

  32. Ray Says:

So what band is it that Jason Licht loves?

  33. ToAd Bowels Says:

The visit could be a way to get someone to trade up ahead of the Bucs to grab him. Panthers wouldn’t want to face him two times a year on the Bucs.

  34. Joe in Michigan Says:

MadMax: I seem to remember Matt Bryant kicking a long field goal for a Bucs win, 60 something yards.

  35. Tony Says:

Isn’t there a dance called “The Florida state Flop”?

  36. Tebowtime Says:

As a UF alum, I hope we draft this guy and he busts hard just to shut up all the FSU fans that hate Trask. (For the record I like Baker and think he is def our starter of the future just sick of people hating on a player just b/c he dumptered your clown college).

Its all the same and Bucs no1 but these haters are redic. So sad.
