Draft Winners SirVocea Dennis & K.J. Britt

April 28th, 2024

Linebacker K.J. Britt (left) stands behind Todd Bowles and manbeast tackle Vita Vea.

Joe only has heard head coach Todd Bowles refer to two Buccaneers as “natural born leaders.”

They are Baker Mayfield and inside linebacker K.J. Britt, who replaced Devin White in the starting lineup very late last season.

White left in free agency to Philadelphia and iconic Lavonte David is 34 years old at the other inside linebacker position.

Given David’s age and White leaving the defense he captained for years, Joe wondered if the Bucs’ moves in this weekend’s draft might reveal how they truly feel about the futures of Britt and Lavonte David’s backup, second-year man Sirvocea Dennis.

It turns out the Bucs’ inaction spoke volumes.

Tampa Bay did not draft an inside linebacker.

Joe found that to be a huge endorsement of Britt and Dennis. Britt was a fifth-round pick in 2021, and Dennis was a fifth-rounder last year.

I believe that Cade Otton & Payne Durham were also winners……Ko Keift, maybe not.
Our new 7th round TE will not challenge our top 2.

Also a winner is Zion McCollum….no outside CB.

  2. Austing Says:

SVD taking over for LVD, Britt is a brick wall

  3. Austing Says:

SVD taking over for LVD. But LVD can play for us till he’s 50 idc

  4. MadMax Says:

dirty birds trading up for Penix….HUGE winner!! lol

Im sorry….i shouldnt be this way LMFAO like I am….I love the kid, wish him the best except when he plays us

  5. Koryc Says:

How about we have an update list for the “draft guru” and see how good he actually is?!?

  6. Hearty Dikerson Says:

I was impressed with JJ Russell in his limited playing time. Not much chatter on him but I’d be curious to see how he’d do with more playing time. He’s only 25.

  7. Colin in Canada Says:

This DeLoach LB we signed from FSU is a talented player but he’s only 210 lbs. He could make the team but he won’t be a starting linebacker in the NFL.

  8. Brian in St Pete Says:

I thought Britt played fantastic last year given the (lack of) expectations when he came in. He’s not a polished player by any means, but for a guy who nobody saw as even a reliable backup, I thought he was great. It’ll be nice to see how he develops with an entire offseason of starter reps. I’d love to see Sir Dennis more involved this season as well. From all accounts he was a standout in practices last season.

  9. FlBoy84 Says:

Wouldn’t be surprised to see a MLB added to the competition prior to the start of the season, maybe even as late as final cutdowns.

Either of these two players will be just fine alongside LD54. Who knows they may actually become the next two starters when LD54 hang up his jersey in a year or two. I see great things coming from SD8 in the near future!! Plus the Bucs picked up a couple of undrafted players too. We’ll see how the preseason pans out!! Whatever happens, the Bucs will be fine!!

  11. Capt.Tim Says:

So we think Brawell will play DE, not Lber?

  12. Esteban85 Says:

A huge endorsement or the board didn’t fall their way to pick an ILB or the position wasn’t necessarily deep in this years draft or both. I think we filled about as much need as you can from the draft and I wouldn’t be surprised if they grabbed another ILB or three in UDFA.

  13. NJbucs23 Says:

Dennis will be a nice player in time. Let him continue to develop behind LVD. The only thing that scares me with Britt is his sideline to sideline speed. But, Britt is an excellent tackler.

  14. All_da_way Says:

Britt showed that he can diagnose things quickly and take proper angles to defend sidelines.

Britt’s weakness is the same as D. White which is TE’s that attack a seem like LaPorta.

Dennis, Britt and JJ Russell have shown a lot of promise and I think they will improve.

  15. Aceofaerospace Says:

How embarrassing for Devon White (at least he should be) that the Bucs didn’t feel the need to draft anyone to replace him. Nah, we’re good.

  16. JimBobBuc Says:

I went back and watched the week 12 game against the Colts since SVD had 66 snaps in place of LVD. SVD was not impressive at all. He dropped in zone coverage well and was close to undercutting some throws. That’s the highlight. In the run game, he took bad angles and had few tackles. At least twice, he missed easy tackles in the run game. Lastly, he looked very small on the field. He’s listed as 6′ 1″ and 226.

  17. Beeej Says:

Britt is a bit slower then DW, but DW’s decision-making was so poor that Britt is hands down a better player. As for speed? LD had a 40 of 4.65 at the Combine (a DECADE ago). Britt? 4.75

  18. Letsbucinggo Says:

Do not understand why Licht didn’t go after some of the higher profile UDFA s like Curtis Jacobs instead of just locals that have almost no chance of making the team. I understand its good for the community but still have a lot of players still out there from major programs thats unemployed.

  19. BillyBucco Says:

Surprised Curtis Jacobs from Penn St didn’t get drafted.
Id pick him up as aN UFA if possible.

  20. adam from ny Says:

yeah joe nailed it…they must really like sirvocea…i raelly thought we were good in the DB room and were drafting an ILB…

but no, they didn’t do it – so they must be high on britt, dennis and russell…

maybe they’ll hang onto the ufa signing out of fsu

  21. adam from ny Says:

    remember fan fave riley bullough

  22. adam from ny Says:

lavonte just might play until he loses that sideline to sideline quickness…

    he’s like ronde…

he needs some longevity and to just keep racking up stats to don that gold jacket…

and he just might tough it out…

also another ring should just about lock him and me13 in to the hall…if they get 2 rings, with their careers, they’re probably in

  23. David Says:

The team has improved at every position group except ILB.
    This is concerning.

  24. IE Buc Says:

The only question about Britt is how will he do in pass coverage.

Everyone says Dennis will eventually be David’s successor, well why not play both of them together. He can take over for David when he retires, but he take over for White right now.

  25. Beeej Says:

Gotta be thinking Bucs are happy with their crop of ILB’s
