Ageless Lavonte David

April 22nd, 2024

 Lavonte David.

Joe is sure hoping there is still some juice left in that orange.

You don’t often see 33-year old players dominate in the NFL (outside of maybe offensive linemen and quarterbacks). Lavonte David is an exception.

Last year playing at age 33, the Bucs’ linebacker legend ranked seventh in the NFL in tackles for loss. Let that sink in. A guy drafted in 2012 not only is still in the league, but the last time he stepped on a football field he was one of the biggest terrors for offensive coordinators.

David had 17 tackles for loss.

No wonder Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht wanted to bring David back so badly. Who wouldn’t?

Per the Bucs’ media relations department, since the stats outfit TruMedia began keeping tackles-for-loss stats in 2008, only four players have as many tackles for loss as David (160). They are J.J. Watt (195), Aaron Donald (176), Calais Campbell (175) and Von Miller (164).

Pretty damn good company there, no?

Great player for us year after year. Really hope he gets hall of fame at first vote when he does retire. But I am not anxious to for that day to come anytime soon.

    HOF!

A world class professional football player and an even better human.

This is the kind of information that needs to be broadcast to the HOF voters now. Ira, what’s your plan? Are you hyping this man every week to media in other cities? How about the talking heads on ESPN and NFL Network?

Is the team preparing one sheets for the announcers of the Bucs games? These guys need data and info to fill moments between plays. Get them talking about David.

Get the word out. The HOF campaign begins now.

I could see LVD playing 3 more years and with good production.

    @BucsFan,

There is no way at his position. Too many hits. My gut says this is his last season, maybe one more if he has no injuries or he has another stellar year. He has nothing left to prove.

  7. SlyPirate Says:

If he plays two more seasons, he’ll also finish top 4 in tackles. Just ahead or behind D Brooks.

    ROH, HOF

  9. BA’s Red Pen Says:

This should be an easy one for the Sage. If they put in 8 season Puke Kuechly LVD is a first ballot guy.

  10. Pickgrin Says:

LD54 is #1 in the NFL among active players with 1035 solo tackles

The Bucs produce a book each week for media for that week’s game. And yes, this info is in there. But announcers don’t vote for the Hall of Fame.

Well after another productive year from LVD HOFer he should surpass Von Miller, Calais Campbell and Aaron Donald for total TFL’s. If he doesn’t get into the HOF, someone (IRV) screwed up.
