Lavonte David: Jordan Whitehead Wanted Out Of Jets

March 22nd, 2024

“Get me outta here!”

Cool moment of iconic Bucs linebacker Lavonte David peeling back the curtain today at One Buc Palace.

NFL fans often hear about players jumping to a new team in free agency and being accused of chasing a check and/or not feeling connected to their new club.

Bucs safety Jordan Whitehead, a 2020 postseason hero, spent four years in Tampa before jumping to the Jets after the 2021 season. Last week, Whitehead said he was never happy about leaving Tampa and he reflected on keeping in touch with his Bucs teammates.

What Whitehead did not say is what David shared today; Whitehead was wearing Jets green and talking about how he was ready to leave.

“(Laughs) For whatever happened [after the 2021 season], you know, he didn’t have a chance to come back [to the Bucs] but still he was communicating with us talking about how much he missed us and stuff like that —  how much he (laughs), whenever his deal was done in New York he wanted to come back here and that was his first priority,” David said of Whitehead.

It’s really striking to Joe that Whitehead was playing on a top-5 defense and couldn’t wait to return to Tampa. And Whitehead is from Pennsylvania and went to college there.

David also said the bone-crushing safety might be the Bucs’ biggest signing of the offseason, including the returning big names.

Joe is glad to have Whitehead back home.

    Wow, shots fired at Baker…

  2. TomBucsFan Says:

Should’ve never let him leave, take care of your own, especially if they love the team and the city.

  3. Joe in Michigan Says:

Rod Munch: You’ve said over and over again that you think Baker is “mediocre”. You just contradicted yourself with your latest post! 😂

  4. Beeej Says:

they had to choose between he and Edwards

  5. doolnutts Says:

We have transformed our culture to a place that people want to be. From the winning, the “fun”, the way JL handles the team from top to bottom. I always joke and say who would want to go to the Jets they have been losing for decades I cant imagine its a fun place to play.

  6. Rod Munch Says:

Joe in Michigan – the word is ‘middling’.

Anywho, I was just having some fun with you Baker Boi(s) – I thought it was obvious, but I guess not.

  7. A Bucs Fan Says:

Whitehead was the leader of the secondary in 2020. They will be much improved this year with his return.

  8. Joe in Michigan Says:

Rod Munch: As I’m just having fun with it, too. Middling means mediocre, doesn’t it? 😂😂😂😂😂

  9. Joe in Michigan Says:

Google: “If something is middling, it isn’t terrible and it isn’t great — it’s mediocre.”

Rod Munch: As I’m just having fun with it, too. Middling means mediocre, doesn’t it?

    ———

Yes, I’m just saying that I almost always choose to say middling as opposed to mediocre, because middling just sounds more mid.

  11. Bucben61 Says:

Small rod muncher you are such a a dick….just kidding…just having fun …????….what a load of crap

  12. Smashsquatch Says:

Winfield & Whitehead are a solid duo.

  13. Joe in Michigan Says:

Rod: I think Baker will have an even better year in 2024, if the Bucs can fix their interior O-Line.

  14. NJbucs23 Says:

Jordan is a baller. I was so bummed he left, but damn stoked he’s back.

  15. Buckeyebuckchuck Says:

Rod Munch, shots fired at Winfield and Evans as well. Lacks believability. Iron Mike is a first ballot HOF’er, and AW might end up there as well if he maintains his level of play. Whitehead and Mayfield will be in the audience at induction.

  16. thatmiracle Says:

He’s also cousins with Darrelle Revis which adds an additional layer interesting trivia of cousins who played for same teams.

  17. Buckeyebuckchuck Says:

Regardless this is a great add. He knows Bowles D and will fit in seamlessly. The back end just got a lot stronger. And, my opinion, Bryce Hall is gonna ball out with Todd coaching him up. Saleh is a front 7 kind of guy

  18. Conner50 Says:

    @Rod Munch
You just triggered them here comes the baker soldiers

  19. Conner50 Says:

Whitehead and Winfield are the best safety duo in the league hands down

  20. Boss Says:

Because the returning big names are absolutely NOT game changers.

They may make good plays and make the highlight reels. but it does not make up for their weaknesses and dropped balls and missed opportunities.

The AW and JW combo are much larger game changers than the bm and me combo.

  21. infomeplease Says:

    Can’t wait for September!!

  22. Dave Pear Says:

Wow. Boss needs to quit mixing alcohol, peyote and quaaludes. Either that or he’s actually a Bot from the new technology known as “Artificial Stupidity.”

  23. Bucben61 Says:

Wasn’t the bucs secondary ranked 29th last season?

    ——-

I don’t discount it, and I hope it’s the case. The Bucs will have to be better this year as I don’t think the NFC South is going to be a cupcake division once again.

Question: Which set of people like to bring up Baker even when he isn’t mentioned?

Answer: The CONSTANTLY triggered by Baker

  27. Bucs Reality Show Says:

Hey Boss, it’s hilarious how you’re trying to go 1-on-1 with Dave Pear. He’s got +100 points on you in IQ scale.

  28. sweti_yeti Says:

He may not be an All-Pro, but he’s a difference maker. His presence was missed.

  29. Conner50 Says:

    Boss
Yea a guy who’s fixing to break Jerry Rice’s record isn’t a game changer.. your takes are just flat out garbage

  30. Marine Buc Says:

Breaking News – the Bucs just re-signed a player that fills a major area of need.

    Long snapper Z. Trinner.

    Welcome back Zack!

That’s funny because you and others always bring up trask when nobody says anything about him. Stfu

  32. Tony Says:

Never should’ve let him go. I wanted him when he was coming out, too! I liked him even at Pitt.

    ROFL.

Rod munchkin says the word think & the word Rod do not belong in the same post I r the king of knuckleheads I crown thee

  37. lambchop Says:

Jared Goff turned his career around, so I won’t put it past Baker to string together consecutive productive seasons here. You can win a Super Bowl with an average QB. So, anyone who wants to call Baker avg, have at it. I just want the chip. He’s capable of being better than Trent Dilfer and Joe Flacco. No matter how offensively focused the NFL is today, defense still win Super Bowls, more so now with all these offensive gurus, elusive QBs, and ticky tack penalties.

  38. BakerBucs says Says:

Rod what mid.sounds junior high that’s the quality of u r worthless posts

  39. Joe in Michigan Says:

Ah, Boss…Who thinks Carlton Davis and his 1 interception are “top shelf”, but a guy with 13 receiving TD’s is “not a game changer”.

  40. Joe in Michigan Says:

The Negative Nancy’s and Debbie Downers crack me up. Even after a good year with much to be thankful for, they’d rather be like a fly that loves to eat 💩.

  41. Tucker Says:

So glad jordan is back with the bucs.

    who?

  43. David Says:

A lot of different opinions, but the bottom line is the secondary, even losing their best CB, has improved overall.
Much better depth and safety play. Whitehead was never fantastic in coverage, but he is better than what they had and much better in the run game.

  44. Shane Callahan Says:

    Huge signing! Love it!

    **********************************************

    — Mr. Munch’s transition this offseason has been obvious. He’s firmly in the BM camp!

Meanwhile — he still can’t pass up the temptation to (easily!) raise some hackles.

    Go Mr. Munch! Go Bucs!!

  46. heyjude Says:

Whitehead is so happy to be back and that makes such a difference too. I am overjoyed he is back. He and Winfield have that bond too. Go Bucs!

  47. BucaneroJim Says:

Boss… I sometimes have a Paula Abdula oblongata hardening of the mind wand, when I wake up.

  48. Bucs'n'Bucks Says:

Hey Joe in Michigan…. Haven’t you figured Rod Munch out yet?? He makes no definitive opinion about anything. Always wishy-washy. Or, as he calls it middling. That way no one can ever say he’s wrong about anything. I think he just likes to see his name in print. I’ll bet you could never get a rd in during a conversation.w

  49. Bucs'n'Bucks Says:

    …get a word in…

  50. Buchen61 Says:

This is for boss …a qbr guy:

    Is ESPN QBR stat garbage?
So I’ve seen some major discrepancies between passer ratings and calculated QBR over the years. I know there are supposed to be more factors that go into it but it seems like a good amount of wu-wu nonsense also.

    For example:

this past week Josh Allen had a 50% completion %, 169 yds, 5.4/att, 0 tds, 1 int, and 1 sack against the patriots.

The patriots are 16th in defensive pass comp allowed with 65.2%. 10th in yds/att with 6.7. 13th in total pass yds allowed with 3721. 24th with 10 ints.

Baker Mayfield had a 67% comp percentage, 309 yds, 9.4/att, 2 tds, 2 ints, and 2 sacks against the saints.

The saints are 5th defensively in ints with 16, 7th in total pass yds allowed with 3450. 6th in yds/att with 6.6. And 2nd in comp percentage with 58.8%.

Yet Allen had a QBR of 19.8 and Mayfield had a QBR of 19.4.

How is this accurate when Allen had a very clearly worse game against a worse defense? How can QBR say “oh they had statistically similar games when adjusting for the opposing defenses they played”?

This one’s for the qbr crowd

  52. Crickett Baker Says:

It’s obvious to me that Whitehead wanted to play with Aaron and not Baker. That didn’t work out so well. He was good enough for me to be glad he is back, though, as long as he is definitely committed now.

  53. Conner50 Says:

I’ve literally seen multiple threads of you bringing him up out of random and calling people cult members

  54. Conner50 Says:

    BakerBucs
I speak garbage to you cause your football intelligence is next to none, if you agree with boss about mike evans not being a game changer well that just proves my point

  55. BillyBucco Says:

I love the people that attacked Rod Munch after his FIRST post. You guys reacted EXACTLY how he wanted.
All the guys we have added in the secondary play the run much stronger and tackle better. Even better than Davis. I think the secondary actually played the deep ball well, it’s the underneath stuff that needed to be cleaned up. Mission accomplished IMO. When Winfield does come down in the box to blitz, we won’t be giving up a ton on the backend either. Pretty exciting.

  56. Joe in Michigan Says:

Yes, BillyBucco, Rod is a master of psychological warfare.

  57. Dave Pear Says:

Well, Boss has proven that it is in fact an “Artificial Stupidity” bot. Even a profound mental defective could come up with more coherence.

  58. Bucben61 Says:

I hate to say it but I’m with conner50…how can you not see that me13 is a game changer and it didn’t matter which flavor of the month QB was tossing him the rock….me13 is a stud and a class act

  59. Bucben61 Says:

    Boss is.always making snide remarks….

Snide means insulting or contemptuous in an indirect way. For example, “What? Was she in a car wreck?” is a snide comment if your friend is wearing too much purple eye shadow and your other friend whispers to you. Snide remarks are often sarcastic, cutting, demeaning, and arrogant.

  60. Dave Pear Says:

Boss is too vegetative to conjure snide remarks.

  61. ScottyMack Says:

Of course Rod Munch decides to take a shot at Baker … “Wow, shots fired at Baker…”

Not a shot taken at Winfield, Evans or Lavonte David, of course.

Dude is pitiful. I only wish his mommy would have treated him better.

  62. Conner50 Says:

    Bucben61
Boss wanted Mike Evans out of Tampa and thinks he only gets his stats in garbage time, which is absurd. Evans is a true all around team player like LVD and we’re lucky to have both on the team at the same time. He’s crazy to rag on a future HOF player

  63. Dave Pear Says:

    Not crazy, Connor.

    Can’t fix stupid.

  64. adam from ny Says:

whitehead really completes the back end of the defense…

yeah we have, i’d say, one corner question mark right now…

but our safety tandem is what i’d call top 3 in the league…

we were missing a safety since he left – almost as much as we had kicker issues for a bunch of years…

it was like a glaring issue that couldn’t get fixed – then poof – licht fixed it…

i’m gonna say the same thing just happened with bringing back jordan “bone-crusher” whitehead…

    #GravediggersStandUpYo

  65. adam from ny Says:

jordan whitehead was just as important in green bay as scotty miller was…

  68. itzok Says:

Jets are a dumpsterfire. If Arron Rogers can’t save them this year then they should be removed from the NFL or the owner should be forced to seel it.
