Jason Licht Said Baker Mayfield Is A “Pr!ck” And That’s A Good Thing

March 14th, 2024

New nickname?

Around One Buc Palace, the shot-callers believe Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield is a “pr!ck.” And with the Bucs, that’s a good thing.

Yesterday at One Buc Palace, there was a press conference to celebrate Mayfield’s new three-year contract. There, Licht was asked if Mayfield’s toughness endeared him to teammates.

Licht said very much so and explained in common man’s language to get his point across to all.

“Well, it means everything,” Licht began. “He sets the tone for this team with his… well, for lack of a better word – on a [scale] of one [to] 10, he’s a 10 on the pr!ck scale.

“That’s what you want in your offensive linemen. Baker is kind of an offensive lineman in a quarterback’s body. It’s what has rallied this team this year. He’s a big part of it.”

And Mayfield seemed to embrace being called a top-shelf pr!ck by his general manager. Mayfield smiled at Licht’s description and said, “Thank you, I’ll take that.”

So for you many Baker Haters (and the subset of the Baker Haters, the Trask Occult), if you refer to Mayfield as a pr!ck, be aware that with the Bucs, that’s a compliment.

Excited for this move for Baker and the Bucs. Let’s Bake!

  2. EternalSon Says:

    Go Bucs!

  3. ATLBuc Says:

Go Bucs! Now let’s go get an edge rusher. However, if Watts can learn the defense, I’m good with what we have. JTS is ready for a break out season.

  4. Marky Mark Says:

Just be tough on the Defensive backs and make them pay for mistakes.

  5. Rover Says:

    Go Bucs !

  6. RagingBrisket Says:

Thank you, I’ll take that AND my $100k

  7. Irishmist Says:

That’s why his performance is so up and down.

  8. SlyPirate Says:

Yawn. So fatigued of pointless Baker stories. Go get a stud DE and OL. Then, draft.

Last off season, Goedeke, Zyon, and Hall basically lived at One Buc. Grinded all off season. Anyone doing that already? That’s a story.

  9. YaYa Winfield Says:

That is a good kind of pr$@! The kind who types out occult instead of cult even after numerous posters have explained the difference is not.

  10. Todd Says:

I’ve listened to SO MANY football podcasts yesterday and it his morning. It seems that the media world at large believes Rodney Dangerfield is our GM. WeMr getting ZERO coverage on nailing it this free agency.

Seems every team upgraded but us. Got better. Falcons are hands down going to win the NFC South. Packers the NFC Championship. Dangerfield’s Bucs? Not a word.

Soon to appear on Buc jerseys in the stands above his number
    🙀

  12. Dave Pear Says:

Maybe Baker can rub off onto Todd. So to speak.

Earth to Todd – if you’re gonna play 90% zone bust coverage then maybe you should determine why your guys keep making the same mistakes over and over and over. Having Prime Time and Ronnie Lott would still end up looking like Myron Lewis and Chris Conte thanks to Todd’s overcomplicated genius. God help us.

    @YaYA Winfield,

If you’re going to criticize vocabulary, at least make a coherent sentence.

  14. Bucnjim Says:

Last off-season it was the Saints, Eagles, Cowboys, Vikings, and of course the 49ers (they got them right) Every year someone surprises hopefully it’s the Bucs with their 4th division win in a row.

  15. The Truth be Told Says:

I said it from the very beginning. The Bucs lucked out that Baker fell into their lap last year. Anybody that watched the Bucs last year saw a QB that is top 15 in this league and that can take a team to the playoffs. The future looks bright as a TB fan. Next is Pass Rush. Pass Rush.

  16. Dave Pear Says:

Yes. Pass rush. And run blocking. And pass rush. And run blocking.

And a system to play zone defense that actually works.

  17. Boss Says:

spin it however anyone likes….it’s NOT a compliment.

  18. Jack Clark Says:

Baker Mayfield being a “prick” is a good thing because he’s white, but if he were Cameron Jordan then he’d have “too much lip”

Please be nice to “Boss”, he has insider information on all of this…Well, as much knowledge as Rod Munch has on running a defense (just blitz White up the middle on EVERY PLAY is a Muncher classic).

  21. Michael Says:

Actually I have been watching the NFL Network at work and there was a lot of coverage on the Bucs and what they have accomplished so far, all positive 😀🏈

  22. JD Still Says:

How did being a prick eventually work out at Cleveland , Carolina, and LA ? How does that old saying go , “ I ‘ll tolerate you until I don’t have to”.

  23. Boss Says:

when people toss an insult and then say it’s joking…..well, it’s still an insult.

when your wife asks do the pants make her look fat just say yeah, or something is making your ass look fat and laugh……

get back to me ont that

  24. Dave Pear Says:

Booss continues to amaze. Just when you think he can’t write anything more stupid, he takes the meaning of “cretin” to another new level.

  25. LANshark Says:

    @Dave Pear:

When Todd was asked last season ‘why so much zone’, he essentially said ‘well, I have some guys who can’t play press without getting beat like a drum, so we play zone’… Since both Dean and Davis are GREAT in press, and Winfield is also, that leaves NEAL and DELANY as the likely suspects. Since Whitehead is back, and Izien will be playing more… I suspect we’ll see them go back to playing press/man much more often this season.

There is hope…. of course, good press/man requires a decent 4 man pass rush… so there’s that.

  26. Dave Pear Says:

Yes LANshark – he did say that. What I want is for someone to ask him why his guys bust their zone assignments the same way over and over. And what has he tried in practice to fix it?

The coming season is shaping up nicely! Thanks, of course to JL and his hard working staff! I would think some quality fa s would be looking to make Tampa their next home. Hopefully with a discount. The money is drying up. LFG!

  29. LongSeason Says:

Gotta love Jason Licht. Baker has expectations of himself and his team mates. That’s is great to hear.

He’d better be a lot better than last year to earn the money. Why set the bar so low? Do you doubt he can do better?

    (not trolling…just curious)

  32. ^^mtn^^ Says:

    @Buccaneer Bonzai

Slightly better or slightly worse. Need to fix their ground game, sell the PA.

Even an average run game would suffice & help Baker from getting as nicked up.

He does enough, to his own detriment, with his own smash mouth play; needs to work on his slide to avoid contact as much as possible. Otherwise, it will catch up with him. It’s a long season.

Would help if they got 1 or 2, 235-40lb RBs from FA & draft, as well as fix the iOL.

So, should he play better? Yes.

    Will his numbers reflect that?

Maybe not, but don’t tell the stat oriented folks around here, won’t go over very well.

Right around 4k yards again. Protect the ball. Obviously, the biggest knock on him is consistency.

It would be nice to see more 20+ yd passes, get in sync with WRs. If the drops are reduced, that should off-set completion %

ME gets his 1K & probably Godwin as well. Would like to see Trey take the next step but also think they should draft someone like Corley

  34. Stanglassman Says:

Boss is the king of stupid takes. I find myself looking for his comments just to see how he is able have another even more stupid opinion.

Everyone has watched Brady get on players who F-up and didn’t do their job. That’s all Jason is saying. Baker has a standard and players love Baker but they get an ear full when they aren’t meeting the standard. I’m not sure why I feel compelled to explain this to Boss. We all know these types, they are incapable of listening to anyone because they’re too busy being defensive and doubling down on their bad idea.

Nope… JW doesn’t mature – just gets old. What team would hire a QB who goes rogue on a kneel down, against his own coach? Oh, I guess Cleveland. Watson, Winston and what next, Antonio Brown?
