“I Think He Needed A Change Of Scenery”

March 26th, 2024

Todd Bowles talks Devin White.

After a roundtable chat with reporters early this morning, Bucs head coach Todd Bowles headed into the halls of the Ritz-Carlton Orlando resort to chat with a few friends and non-Bucs media.

Yeah, Joe got to tag along a bit.

It was there that Bowles talked a more candidly about departed Bucs savior linebacker Devin White.

“I think he needed a change of scenery,” Bowles said twice.

Bowles talked about White being “a good kid” who got too caught up with money after the 2022 season, though Bowles added that White bounced back very well and is not a problem player. Bowles also added that he thinks White’s situation with the Bucs — before and during the season — got a bit overblown by media.

Joe knows the Bucs and most teams make lists of “change of scenery” guys across the NFL that they might want to sign. It seems the Bucs also put White in that category. It certainly makes sense, given all that transpired after White asked for a trade a year ago.

Joe will share here later Bowles’ answers to Joe’s question about White versus K.J. Britt, the linebacker that replaced White in the starting lineup late last season.

    should’ve traded him

  3. Joe in Michigan Says:

I’ve seen Devin White being referred to as “The Jameis Winston of the defense”. That’s not good.

  4. BA’s Red Pen Says:

    AMF

  5. Cometowin2 Says:

Might we get a comp pick for losing him?

  6. TomBucsFan Says:

No Comp pick for DW since we signed Whitehead

Football is a tough sport at any level. After the first couple of games, your body aches constantly. This is where the money guys are separated from the players who love the game. Finding out who is who before you draft them has to be a GM’s hardest job. I’ve seen the high-priced free agents and money grabbers give up on plays and take plays off once they’ve been paid. So far Licht has done well

  8. Pewter Power Says:

Need a change of scenery huh. I want happened because they didn’t overpay for a fast linebacker with a big mouth and no ability to cover tight ends. So a change of scenery is going to make him play harder for the team or to get a big contract? Who knows with this guy. All I know for sure is he was replaced by a slower but smarter Britt who’s been a backup his entire nfl career

  9. Buc1987 Says:

I had to look up where White landed again.

That’s how much I care or know about them once they’re gone.

    Eagles huh.

  10. bucsfaninOregon Says:

I think JTS needs a change too.

  11. Pickgrin Says:

So Boss has “nothin but Love” for Diva White

and nothin but criticism for Mike Evans.

    Sounds about right……

    GTFOOH you fake Bucs fan!

  12. Hodad Says:

The fact they didn’t resign the #5 pick in the draft tells you all you need to know about how the Bucs feel about White. Todds comment, he got caught up thinking about money. This tells me his focus was on getting a big contract rather then earning one. Don’t let the barn door hit your horses arse on your way to Philly.

  13. Crunchbuc76 Says:

He needs a change of attitude. Can’t wait for Philly to experience the epic pouting and the ten games a year cloak of invisibility.

  14. TampabayDJ Says:

@Pickgrin – Well said 🎯 you took the words out of my mouth. There’s quite a few fake fans on here , or bandwagon fans, or the worst ones are the spoiled fans who didn’t watch a game until Brady got here and all of a sudden we are supposed to win the Super Bowl every year and if not then it’s a busted year in their eyes. Obviously never watched during the lost decade, and the same fans that sell their tickets to the opponents fans like last year, embarrassing the Tampa Bay faithful and the Bucs on national TV. Boss is only the Boss of himself, probably flipping burgers at BK as we speak, or bagging groceries when the teenagers call off at Winn Dixie. Go Bucs and the real Bucs fans

  15. TampabayDJ Says:

Boss isn’t even a Bucs fan, that’s why he always has nothing but negative comments about our Bucs . But wants DW to “tear it up ” with the Eagles ?
