Chase Edmonds Returned

March 11th, 2024

RB Chase Edmonds.

Bucs fans can rest easy tonight and lay their heads on the pillow in comfort.

The Bucs re-signed backup running back Chase Edmonds. That’s the news from no less an authority than Adam Schefter.

The vaunted Bucs run game is back from last year, ready to lead the league once again in worst yards per carry.

  1. Dave Pear Says:

Fine. Now go get Aaron Jones on the cheap and let’s play. Oh wait – the O-line…..Jason knows what to do. Fix that first and when no one signs Aaron Jones, go pick him up on the really cheap.

  2. SB~LV Says:

The FSU RB looks good to me, I forget his name but he stood out on a few RB draft prospects YouTube videos.
Has great one cut acceleration and has great speed and size

  3. Nicholas Carlson Says:

    Lol

  4. BucsFan81 Says:

Maybe if we could get some better run blocking the RB could do more than last year.

  5. Popcorn Mike Says:

You can bet on the Bucs run game will be a hell of a lot better this season. The Bucs are not done with plugging in players yet. In Licht I trust

  6. Stanglassman Says:

I really thought they’d upgrade this roster spot. Nothing against Chase its just when you finish #32 out of 32 in rushing its time to make some changes. I get that the interior OL is partly responsible. I’d like to see some upgrades there too.

  7. It's Corn Says:

he had injuries and was learning the new system… in Miami he had flashes of greatness when he got on a roll… don’t hate him too much yet

  8. Mac Says:

Better Olbermann on the real cheap. Like 1.2 mil

  9. Joseph C Simmons Says:

In improving the running game, I’m way more interested in improving the O-linemen and the scheme than the actual running backs. I wouldn’t mind if they picked up another back in free agency or the draft, but I hope the prioritize the offensive line.

  10. Toad Bowels Says:

Why so bitter Joe? Bucs need a RB on the cheap (who can block which was our undrafted rookie RBs big issue) if White gets injured or needs a breather.

Give Chase a chance… He has had some good ypc in the past and with a rebuilt O-line should improve.

Bucs can’t afford Derrick Henry or a top tier back and should be putting their dollars in the trenches. Yes Joe, I’d like to see what Derrick Henry could do too but with Gage, Barrett, Jensen dead cap debts to pay off the team can’t afford it this year.

  11. Dave Pear Says:

Hey Toad Bowels – perfect take.

  12. Timbucs2 Says:

I know I’m an Alabama homer, but I really want Derrick Henry. He would make our offensive line look like top-shelf run blockers, even at 30

  13. geno711 Says:

Jaylen Wright, Trey Benson or Johnathan Brooks if they are available in the 3rd. Maybe one will be but I doubt it. Or Ray Davis in the 5th.

  14. Toad Bowels Says:

Hopefully someone is working with Sean Tucker this off-season teaching him how to pass block

  15. Defense Rules Says:

Glad they brought back Chase Edmonds, he’s a different type of threat than Rachaad is. Now add AJ Dillon as a FA pickup and we’ll have a solid backfield.

  16. Ko Kiefer Says:

    League min deal. Solid

  17. Oneilbuc Says:

They just passing out money now lol 😆😭 I really don’t care about bringing the ban back. This guy is not a good runningback at all this is a waste of money. But hey get your money bro!!

  18. All_da_way Says:

Edmonds is decent value for what he brings. But I think this also points to the Bucs drafting a RB with upside to join Edmonds, White, and Tucker.

  19. NCKE86 Says:

Nothing against Chase but we need a power back on first down

  20. Conner50 Says:

Don’t expect Edmonds to do much like he did this last season, still need a rookie rb to pair with White.

  21. Noleriff Says:

Now go get Aaron Jones and draft OL!!

  22. Mike S Says:

LOL 3rd place here we come.

  23. Dave Pear Says:

Hey Oneilgirl – how much are the Glazers paying you for your “insight?”

Because it gives them a guaranteed win every time they do the exact opposite of whatever it is you spew out of mom’s keyboard.

  24. Dave Pear Says:

    Mike S – moron much?

  25. Usfbucs Says:

This is okay, you have to have guys who fill out the roster and at times he was the only guy able to gain yards between the tackles. I think the o line is more important than a “premium” RB.

Also Derrick Henry is done. His stats have been on the decline for the past two or three seasons. The Titans rode him into the ground. RB has to be by committee now.

Not sure where we will be at with cap space after the coming contracts for Wirfs, and Winfield along with the restructures for Vea and Godwin. There are two interior o line under 30 who have been graded out as improvements by pff – Conor Williams and Brian Allen. Makes more sense to me to sign a veteran C and then draft a guard.

  26. Capt.Tim Says:

Hi, ya hateful bastards! Thought Id swing by and see what “the constant crying squad” is complaining about now!

  27. Commander Says:

This is how the Bucs operate. Sign their own and plug holes with serviceable free agents. Then when they draft they can go after the best player available.
Remember we were close last year we only need a few upgrades through free agency and the draft.

  28. #99 the big fella Says:

Lol capt Tim..You are 100% correct. It’s guaranteed to hear a bunch of crybabies acting like they could do better than Jason light

  29. Tony Marks Says:

If Canales was still here my reaction would be like Joes’ but since he isn’t I am okay. There’s no telling How long Canales would have been committed to

“The run will come out tomorrow.
Bet your bottom dollar, that tomorrow there’ll be yards”

Rainbows and candy canes is alright when you are the OC but he better turn the panthers around fast because rainbows from the Head Coach gets annoying real fast when you are racking up losses.

With the RBs I’ll give Coen a short honeymoon to see what he can do but really hoping we bring in someone as well.

Nothing against Chase but we need a power back on first down

and 2nd and goal on the four yard line. Ridiculous how often we had to go to the pass on short yardage.

??? Hey Dave long day… that one flew over my head

  33. Rod Munch Says:

Chase is fine as a 3rd down back, and I assume it’s a vet min deal, or pretty close to it.

  34. Bojim Says:

I like Chase. Still need a big back though.

  35. DeRobbins Says:

first 4 rounds. oline and dline.

Maybe a line backer if one looks tough. licht can get all the 4.2 wr and punters and tight ends in rounds 5-7.

trenches. build a bully and let baker run a definse that will run over defenses WHOEVER the RB is we have.

  36. DeRobbins Says:

heck draft a fullback if there are no linemen left in the 4th round because we took them all.

  37. RBUC Says:

Bringing Chase back is cool but if Licht doesn’t bring in a bonified physical between the tackles type RB, preferably 225lɓs or better, then I will be resigned to the fact that Jason Licht doesn’t understand how to get production out of the running game PERIOD!!!!

  38. Dave Pear Says:

    Trench warfare

  39. agnosticbuc Says:

    Why?

    need some speed and depth.

    Don’t get it.

  40. Tye Says:

‘ready to lead the league once again in worst yards per carry.’

Bucs DESPERATELY need a beast at this position and Edmond nor White is it!

  41. HC Grover Says:

Maybe Plan 9 can run the ball?

  42. BrianBucs Says:

Unless the Bucs get some bigger and stronger guys in the interior it doesn’t matter who the RB is.

  43. GhostofBrady Says:

Joe Mixon just got released from the Bengals. He’s had great success playing in this same offense under Zac Taylor. He knows how to find the holes, block and be available for the dump offs. He and Rashaad White would be a dynamic duo and white could learn a lot from him. I think White did good last year and could more. I hope Licht considers signing Mixon on a mid-tier RB contract to give our run game a serious shot in the arm. Rookie RBs take a year or two to understand this offense. We want to win now while Godwin and Evans are under contract.

No slight to Chase Edmunds but he is not going to raise our run game like a Mixon would.

  44. Seanbuc76 Says:

Upgrade center and left guard to start with that should help with the run game

  45. GhostofBrady Says:

I agree improve interior line for the Bucs.

PFF ranked the Bengals offensive line 26th. The interior line was pretty ugly on that team as well. Orlando Brown Jr is a good well paid left tackle but that is more pass blocking then run support. Just saying Mixon is a big and agile back that can get the yards and be reliable in the pass game – even with a subpar interior line. He will get extra yards where White may not when the play breaks down.

I also think some of the early season issues for the our line was learning the scheme. Canales gets a lot of credit for Baker’s improvements. But the combination of players not being prepared to block the scheme well during the midseason and Canales’ stubbornness to call plays beyond the offensive line abilities in the run game really hurt our yards per rush during first and second downs. I’m for all – better O-line, better coaching, better play calling, better bigger faster back

  46. MadMax Says:

Audric Estime if he’s still there with our 3rd pick.

  47. Simeon4HOF Says:

He’s their #3, a depth signing. Surely JL knows they need to draft or sign another power RB

  48. adam from ny Says:

there’s a guy at purdue by the name of mike alstott who is pretty good…maybe we can draft him in the 2nd or 3rd round…

  49. heyjude Says:

Agree with GhostofBrady. Joe Mixon may be a strong fit. He just got released for Colts Zach Moss, 2 years.

  50. BakerFan Says:

Derrick Henry still not signed, do a 1-2 year deal and lets see what he has.

  51. BakerFan Says:

Mixon would be good also, Baker and Mixon played together at OU for 2 years.

  52. BakerFan Says:

Vikings take Aaron Jones and Sam Darnold, plugging holes. Like to see TB do some plugging today.

“Vikings take Aaron Jones and Sam Darnold, plugging holes. Like to see TB do some plugging today.”

Aaron Jones had pretty good numbers in this offensive (McVay WZ) too. He was drafted same year as Mixon and very similar numbers. Better yards per carry but 500 less yards over the same number of games. Probably because Aaron Rodgers like to pass more than run. Both were doing well and their respective teams, Green Bay and Cincinnatti, asked them to take a paycut. RBs have to be the most disrepected position players in all of sports.

I hope Tampa look into Mixon and get him on a prove it like Baker and with Baker deal. I think they were very good friends in their college haydays.

  55. GhostofBrady Says:

Never mind. Joe Mixon just got traded to the Houston Texans. I guess someone else in the league also thought he was a good back to invest in to upscale their run game.

  56. BakerFan Says:

GhostofBrady….. Yep Mixon gone (only 5M), Henry gone (over paid). I guess Bucs are looking for bargain basement players. Still a lot of holes to plug and trading a CB yesterday just created a new hole.

The Running Back is the most disrespected player on the field now. They probably take the most punishment also. Didn’t use to be like that.
