Tiquan Underwood Returns To The NFL

February 19th, 2024

Joe loves when one of the faces of The Lost Decade gets back in the spotlight.

For those unware, The Lost Decade of Buccaneers football is (2009-2018). Joe could throw 2019 in there. Thirty interceptions from America’s Turnover Machine is a painful memory, but at least the Bucs were building toward something very special.

One well-liked guy during The Lost Decade was receiver Tiquan Underwood. He had great hair and a great personality, and he was a Rutgers guy and a Greg Schiano man to the core — so he had a job in Tampa for the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

Underwood caught 52 balls for 865 yards and 6 touchdowns over two seasons. He could fly, but he wasn’t very good. It was no surprise that he never caught another NFL ball despite still being a young player.

Underwood, now 37, jumped into college coaching in 2018. He spent a year as a Dolphins assistant and then coached at Rutgers and Pitt before being named the Patriots’ assistant receivers coach today.

Joe wishes Underwood well. It’s not his fault he spent most 2013 as the Bucs’ No. 2 receiver behind Vincent Jackson.

The more Joe thinks of it, the more Joe believes Team Glazer should issue some form of retroactive refund to that year’s season ticket holder.

    wow big hair don’t care…lol

i’m shocked to see his numbers during his 2 years as a buc…i forgot he even produced that much…

that’s like the work of a super solid number 2 receiver putting in one full season’s work right there…
(i get it, he did it in 2 years)

his flat top hair was amazing, but it’s crazy he put up those type numbers and never caught on elsewhere, even if just for a year…
like a bounce around, back of the roster receiver, who plays for a few different teams on his way out

the really cool thing would be if he’s still rockin’ that hairdo in new england

  3. Why Not Says:

I would appreciate the refund, but it would need to be for more years. I definitely want a refund for that inexplicable loss to the Giants in 2019.

It’s also not Tiquan’s fault that he played on a team driven into ruin by the worst general manager in league history, Mr. 28-52 himself, Mark Dumforknik. Michael Bennett? Naa, why keep an excellent pass rusher. Cadillac Williams? Naa, we’s gotten us Kraig Lumplestiltskin. Oh and let’s pay Revis $16 large a year to rehab his knee after trading prime picks for him, when the Jets were simply going to release him.

He’s virtually unlistenable on NFL radio.

If all the village idiots in the world convened in a single village, Dumnadork would be named the village idiot.

The Bucs have been putting together a good coaching staff in the past few days, I like their bios

Remember he played for the Patriots one year and was cut right before the Super Bowl. This is kinda pay back for that.

But at least Arians and Licht had a vision.

    Winston, 2019 – 55.7 QBR
    Mayfield, 2023 – 54.3 QBR

In fact, Winston had a better QBR in 4 of his 5 years in Tampa than Mayfield had last year, his career year.

Remember, QBR takes into account when turnovers take place – so a hail mary to end the half doesn’t matter. But throwing a 3 yard out on 3rd and 12 does.

    Good stuff Joe!
    Good luck coach Underwood!

Vincent was our only reciever …in Jaymiss’ mind. See forcing the ball and INTs. Not a knock on Jackson.

    Go Bucs!

  22. geno711 Says:

30 interceptions. Nobody has been close to that. He also had 12 more fumbles and 5 fumbles lost.

Sam Howell this year was the closest to that in many years with 21 Ints. Howell started 17 games this year to Winston’s 16 in 2019. Howell had 4 fumbles this year and lost 2 fumbles. Howell had 1 game starting experience before this year and guess what is losing his job because of his turnovers.

No one turned the ball over so badly as Jameis Winston. No one. Since Testeverde in 88. Ouch

6 of his turnovers were returned for TDs.
Jameis also had 6 penalties on him during that season.
That is not including the other 9 pre-snap penalties on the offense.
Actually, the Bucs totaled 134 penalties in 2019.

That went down to 100 in 2020 with Brady. Not a coincidence.

But yeah, let’s talk about his yardage totals.

ESPN keeps their specific method of scoring QBR a secret. I think the dudes that only watch ESPN think it is the only stat that matters for a QB. I am not really sure why.

Compared to passer rating which everyone has known the formula for years.

2023 Baker passer rating of 94.6 is higher than Jameis 2019 passer rating of 84.3.
