Johnny Football Knows!

February 27th, 2024

Celebrates former teammate.

This Twitter post apparently brought a smile to Johnny Football’s face and, as a result, it brought a smile to Joe’s.

Probably the most fun Joe ever had watching college football on TV in recent decades was watching Johnny Football at Texas A&M. The Heisman Trophy winner was must-watch football. Entertainment personified. Redefined “fun.”

Of course, Johnny made football magic throwing to a tall receiver by the name of Mike Evans. The Bucs would eventually draft Evans and he became the greatest receiver in Tampa Bay history and a sure-fire member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame someday.

And now in a couple of weeks, he could be a former Bucs receiver.

Over the weekend, Jeremy Fowler of BSPN got a lot of run when he reported Evans wants to retire as a Bucs player, and the Bucs were working hard to try to find common ground for a new contract.

The free agency dinner bell rings two weeks from tomorrow after two days of legal tampering.

As news floated through social media of how the Bucs want Evans back and Evans wants to retire with the team, none other than Johnny Football — who is not active on social media — retweeted the report with an emoji of a goat.

Evans a goat receiver? Joe cannot go there but he’s getting close. Jerry Rice will always be a goat receiver. But as a Bucs receiver, no doubt. Evans is The Goat.

Joe thinks it is cool that for one of the rare times Johnny Football came out of Twitter hibernation, it was to celebrate his former college teammate. Real recognizes real.

Love Johnny!

How sad that Manziel wasted all that talent.

I was blown away watching that documentary when Johnny revealed that he NEVER studied. NEVER watched film. NEVER prepared for games. He just showed up when it was game time and played.

Even when he was in the pros – he didn’t try to get better AT ALL.

Johnny didn’t care about football. All he wanted to do was party to the max and live “the lifestyle” that his fame and god given talents had afforded him.

    Evans Buc for Life!

How sad to see all that talent go to waste.

I was blown away watching that documentary when Johnny revealed that he NEVER studied, NEVER watched game film, NEVER prepared in any way for upcoming games. He would just show up when he was supposed to (usually) at game time and play….

Even in the pros – with upwards of $100M on the line – Johnny never tried to get better at the game he was so talented at playing.

he is joe. enjoy it while it’s happening. don’t discount this dude because it’s tampa. 1,000 yards don’t just fall in ur lap. go look at a list of the top wideouts in this game today and see how many u consider great have seasons less than 1,000. taking care of ur body and being able to stay healthy that long and consistent is very rare territory. extremely rare. this guy is ours. this is our goat. we need to do him right and the fans right. mike needs to stay home. #m1k3 #stayhome #finishiit

  5. ^^mtn^^ Says:

    Yes, Rice is the Goat.
    Think Brady will remain the GOAT;
Mahomes will be up there with all the other greats when it’s all said and done, but don’t believe he will surpass Brady.
    ^^mtn^^
    since ’76

  6. BillyBucco Says:

For me it was Tim Tebow.
It’s amazing how many college Heisman Winners of the past can’t make it in the NFL.
IMO Mike will end up Top 3 in GOAT voting if you will.
To me, right now, it’s Rice, Moss and Evans.

  7. SB Says:

Manziel Should be happy since Mike made him All his $.

  8. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Johnny Football…by, I’d hate to be the guy who wanted to draft him…

…I bet that same guy likes Baker Mayfield too.

    😉

  9. CleanHouse Says:

I love Mike Evans and I’m glad for his success, want him to remain a Buc.

I find it interesting how the narrative recently changed so drastically. Now he is a lock for the Hall of Fame according to Joe and all the national Press-

Kudos to his PR people or agent.

Just funny to watch all the followers following other followers.

He I think Evans is great, even hall worthy but going from maybe on the bubble to a lock over the course of a season is interesting.

Is it because he led the league in TD’s?

I think it’s because of a good job of changing the narrative…

  10. DoooshLaRue Says:

Retire as a Buc = decline as a Buc
All for a very high price too.

But hey, it’s a feel good story/dream for so many “Bucs” fans who probably like unicorns, puppies and lovely sunsets.

  11. Bucs Guy Says:

    Manziel = Josh Freeman

Glad he sounds like he grew up.

  12. IvanT Says:

“Johnny made football magic throwing to a tall receiver by the name of Mike Evans.”

And Johnny sucked in the NFL without Evans. Just like Mayfield will suck without Evans.

  13. heyjude Says:

Evans is the guy! We definitely need him to stay.

I watched a documentary on Netflix about JM. The guy had the world at his feet and sadly went down a different road.

  14. Towered Says:

Mike Evans elevates the quality of QB play like no one since Randy Moss.

That’s a big reason why the Bucs have had success with cast-off quarterbacks.

  15. Jeffs grandpa Says:

Yep and if it was up to this Joe M1K3 wouldn’t of been the pick at 7 it would of been a 5’10 qb from a&m instead

  16. Steven007 Says:

Your Johnny obsession is weird, Joe. He was a fun player. But his vast immaturity was grating. I remember him doing his stupid money thing with his fingers when he got drafted as he walked towards the commissioner. I thought, this isn’t going to end well…

  17. Thomas Edrington Says:

TIME TO REMIND EVERYONE THAT ONE IF NOT BOTH OF THE JOES WERE PLEADING FOR THE BUCS TO DRAFT JOHNNY FOOTBALL — would have been quite the disaster — paaa-tooey.

  18. Aaron Says:

I remember the 1st time I turned on a Texas AM game to watch, Johnathan Paul Manziel, and this receiver kept flashing over and over….came away very impressed with a WR named Mike Evans 🙂

We don’t want to go into a season without a true #1 WR

    Go Bucs!

  19. Mike Johnson Says:

i always liked Johnny Football. But he always reminds me of a lot of my college buddies who enjoyed getting snockered whenever the opportunity presented itself.

  20. BakerFan Says:

Being named the greatest receiver in history for any team is quite the accolade. I can’t say he is the GOAT of all receivers. That is a long list to get into, but no doubt the greatest Buc receiver to date.

  21. Oz Len Says:

    Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

No, all different personnel people with the Browns between Manziel and Mayfield unless you count the owner.

Manziel was lightning in a bottle while he was in college. In the pros, he was in the bottle. When he played for the Browns he had a few moments. You should hear the on-field mics when he scrambled. It was chaos like a fox in the hen house. I watched him in Canada too. The big field up there hurt his game. Glad he’s doing better…

  22. Proudbucsfan Says:

For those of you that didn’t know Johnny football was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and spoiled his whole life that’s why he didn’t care to work at being better in football. Already a rich kid who didn’t care.

  23. Mike C Says:

How did Jonny recognize Mike as real then? Because he sure af wasn’t.

  24. Mike C Says:

Dooshlaru , I don’t disagree nessasary, however Rice and a few others stayed productive in their 30s. I think Tom Brady had the right kinda effect on him to make that happen.

  25. Marky Mark Says:

Johnny never cared for Football. it is rare to be talented in what you love. Often people are talented in stuff they could give a shift about. Karl Malone admitted he really did not like Basketball. He always wanted to be a truck driver. Google it…

Go watch the documentary on Netflix.

What you just said as fact was a lie spread by the Manziel camp in order to cover up that Johnny Football was making $30-$70,000 a month signing autographs – which was very much against NCAA rules at the time.

Johnny kept showing up at events – like front row at NBA games and fights and such. Seats that cost thousands of dollars… Obviously blowing lots of $ on partying… etc. – and some people started to question “Where is this kid getting his $ from??”

So Manziel’s buddy came up with the idea they would just “get it out there” that Johnny came from $. That his family was wealthy… when they were in fact very middle class.

It worked. Someone talked about that in an interview or something – and that story started to take hold and then Florio and a couple other big names Parroted that Johnny came from $ without checking facts and the lie became everyone’s perception. No one bothered to verify that Johnny’s family was rich – because – well – everybody already knew it was true… LOL
