“We Fixed All The Little Details”

January 21st, 2024

So why are the Bucs on a run of winning six of their past seven games?

One player delivered an answer today.

The pregame hype for today’s Bucs-Lions playoff game is in full swing and that put Baker Mayfield in front of NBC cameras for a sitdown with former Belicheats and Chargers defensive back Rodney Harrison.

Harrison asked what changed that led to the Bucs’ current run.

Mayfield answered easily but Joe thinks Mayfield missed the boat a bit.

“We fixed all the little details. We played for each other a little harder,” Mayfield said. “But it was all about doing the little fundamental things. It wasn’t like we reinvented the wheel when it came to our offensive scheme. We just did it better. We started the running the ball more. We were more physical, played harder for each other. We saw all the work pay off.”

Joe gets Mayfield’s message, but those are huge things that Mayfield referenced: playing harder for teammates and being more physical.

Plus, as it is in every sport, the “little things” really are the big things.

Regardless, winning six of seven is a very serious NFL accomplishment in December and January. Joe loves how the Bucs have much for which to be proud, but also loads of room to improve. Hopefully the latter happens in a hurry against the high-octane Lions.

Yes, you fixed the little things but you haven’t played against any quality wining teams during those six games as you limped into the playoffs. Win today then we can start having confidence in you, toilet bowl and Baker. Go Bucs.

  2. orlbucfan Says:

What more can I say? Go Tampa Bay!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Tye Says:

Hopefully the owners told Bowels that his way is for losers and to pipe down and let the winners get it done and he could steal the credit…

  4. Jerseybuc Says:

    David ,
Just shut up bro. Go follow another team. D hasn’t let up a rushing TD in 6 games. Baker has 13 tuddies 2 picks in them games. They had Houston beat the colts beat also. They beat who was in front of them the last 7 weeks. Eagles were I. The Super Bowl last year not the Bucs problem they fell apart. Maybe cheer for the lions or saints. Beat it!!

  5. Rusty Shackleford Says:

Well, either our season ends today, or it continues today. Either way, at least we’ll know.

  6. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

You fixed the little things? Then how come after the the Jaguars game they went right back to the way before the Packers game when they played the Saints and the Panthers??? It wasn’t just the offense, the OC went back to his coach my scheme to force run up the middle no matter how we sucked at doing it. Against the Eagles and its lay down secondary Cornales switched it up in the beginning and stumpified them but then tried to creep back to his offensive mantra and our scoring came to a halt. However even though they surprised Philly in the beginning Baker still failed to do the thing he hadn’t been able to do all season, get us an opening drive td. Never seen this before, not even with Stuart Mc Clown nor even the infameis Jameis Americas Turnover Machine

I have a Bucs t-shirt that says “Circa 1974”. What is wrong (and right) with that ?

  8. Lt. Dan Says:

Count me in as a “Baker boi”. I think whoever coined that moniker on this site meant it as an insult…whatever. Sign Baker to a new contract and check “find a QB” off of the to do list. Now focus on finding a beastly center and another safety.

  9. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

David you should listen to the classic; ‘talk to much’.

  10. firethecannons Says:

I like this: there is no one touting the Bucs–no one confident enough in the Bucs to say it out loud. It is best this way. Bucs have nothing to lose, no pressure, they just do their game, no worries, no fear.

  11. Jack Clark Says:

By fixing “the little details” I hope he means not wasting first and second down running between the tackles

  12. Jeffs grandpa Says:

We get it david you don’t like baker cuz Trask didn’t get to play

Tampa was awarded an NFL franchise in 1974 (hence my name). That is when my dad bought season tickets. I’m a 54 year old Tampa native and diehard fan. Good posted man.

  14. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

You’re right, David. They didn’t beat any “wining” teams. The only whiner on here is you! You should have paid more attention in 3rd grade clearly.

    74 Bucs Fan:

Both are correct. Bucs were started as a legal entity in 1974, but their first season was (obviously) 1976. I just found it weird that a shirt denoted the legal on-paper start date and not the first season of play.

We’re all friends here David – and I agree that your negativity isn’t healthy. That’s no joke. Wishing you well.

there are only 2 teams separating us from the superbowl right about now…

and the other guy’s name is crock turdy

David is having problems with his tiny unit again. He has not done much in life. He knows it. He needs some baby wipes. Someone help him wipe his face.

  19. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

Yeah Rusty and I don’t believe we had a name is ‘74 – so that’s a little off. There are posters of a silver helmet with red white and blue strips down the middle with a logo that said NFL (which the organization promoted in ‘74. Will have to look into when the “Bucs” name was given. DR – you wanna help with that?

  20. Rusty Shackleford Says:

I have a picture of the original possible logo that had aqua in it but Culverhouse vetoed it because it looked too much like the Dolphins. As for the helmet, that might be a Seattle Kings 1974 helmet.

some of you guys are nothing but broken records saying the same damn nonsense on each article until proven wrong then you got to the next sound bite.

  22. Defense Rules Says:

Reread how Mayfield answered Harrison’s question. Bullet point after bullet point … has Todd Bowles written all over it. Baker bought into Bowles & Canales ‘system’ and it’s paid off handsomely, for the Bucs as well as for Baker.

I fully expect a lot of close games. We won’t dominate, but we won’t be run over either. Our path to victory will be similar to what we’ve done this year: get ahead at the half, force our opponent out of their game plan, then capitalize on what results from that.

  23. Buckeyebuckchuck Says:

Liking Mayfield’s message. Team, team, team. And he is correct, the little things are the edge between winning and losing. Don’t count this team out, got a lot of heart.

  24. David Says:

Here we go with Baker trash fans attacking with their dirty mouths.
Don’t post, don’t talk, don’t ruin this website. Go watch your trash boy and hope good version of him shows up. Go Bucs.

Bucs forgot the little details on the Oline. Block someone.
