Rich Gannon Picks Bucs To Beat Detroit

January 20th, 2024

With one dominant win over an imploding Eagles team, the Bucs have won over a lot of analysts.

Joe keeps hearing over and over that the Bucs are the most likely playoff team to score an upset win this weekend. It’s a beautiful thing.

One man not named Gerald McCoy even crossed the maybe line and picked the Bucs to win in Detroit tomorrow. That was former NFL MVP quarterback Rich Gannon, during his co-hosting duties on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

Yesterday, Gannon moved all-in on the Bucs.

What’s the biggest weakness on the fake grass of Ford Field tomorrow? It’s the Lions’ secondary. The Bucs can eat it up, per Gannon.

A huge reason, he says, is the Tampa Bay offensive line. “Their tackle play has been outstanding,” Gannon noted, after explaining how the Rams carved up the Lions on Sunday but fell short.

Ironically for Joe is that the Bucs’ pass defense had been horrid until the last two games against the dreadful Panthers and the reeeling and banged up Eagles. Yes, the Lions pass defense is worse, but Joe wonders what the Bucs’ defensive backfield is going to look like Sunday when facing a strong offensive line and a quarterback that thrives against the blitz.

The saints pass defense was worse than the bucks and you see how that ended. Mayfield is the wild card. 6 of 10 games you get the one that won’t win a playoff game. You just don’t know which your gonna get.

  2. BillyBucco Says:

Not concerned about the Bucs secondary.
Bucs defense is WAY better than Detroit.
Bowles has been adding 1st round draft picks there and Detroit, being Detroit has been adding Offense in early rounds.
That is what will get them beat in the playoffs.

  3. lunchmeat Says:

Does Jared Goff thrive against the blitz?
Somehow, I got the idea that the rap on him was that he will make mistakes under pressure.
In any case, the Bucs are playing with house money this week.

  4. Tbbucs3 Says:

I hope we destroy this team, they went from a lovable losing franchise with Stafford for many years to being hated overnight after 1 just good season…..they are a dirty team with a trashy fan base.

During the regular season game all their fans wanted to do was start fights in our section…they were worse than Saints and even Philly fans which is saying a lot.

I hope we send them back to another 30 years of irrelevance

Expect them to take cheap shots at us tomorrow

  5. BucsFan Says:

Rams also missed a PAT or game goes to OT. McLaughlin wins a nailbiter late.

  6. BucsFan Says:

McLaughlin is the best kicker Bucs have ever had and very well be Jason Lichts’ best signing during the off season. Pay the man as he has earned it.

  7. Kgh4life Says:

The Bucs have a chance as long Bowles doesn’t play zone defense the majority of the game. Goff ate it up the last meeting.

  8. Cobraboy Says:

Not many have pointed this out *anywhere*, but if Providence has the Bucs going all the way, then this would be a truly majikal moment with a once-discarded QB going to a new team, with a new OC & embattled hot-seat coach, and pull off the greatest comeback in NFL history.

I am not predicting, just sayin’, a great reason to support this team at this time, even for non-fans.

Everybody loves a great underdog story.

  9. orlbucfan Says:

I only follow one team: Tampa Bay. My old man is not a sports fan. So, Lions play dirty. Bucs can fix that. Outwit Lions and refs. They’ve done it before. The cheapest seats have sold for $1100+ . Rumors are Ford Field is sold out. It’ll be loud, but no louder than the Superdome during the height of the Brees Era. Bucs playing with house money–hope they play their A+ game. Go Cardiac Bucs!!

    Cobra

EXACTLY. These are the two best feel good stories of the season! But the Bucs have enjoyed success and the Lions have sucked for a LONG time which makes them get more attention and sympathy.

I get it. The Lions long suffering fans..30+years AND they live in freaking Detroit!! It’s NASTY there right now and every winter!

The Bucs just had the GOAT another SB…and then when expected to suck the Bucs like the fabled Phoenix rise from the ashes of the cost of the successful but very expensive Brady era…AND we live in Paradise.

I swam a couple of thousand yards in an Olympic pool at St. Pete’s Northshore pool OUTDOORS!!! Yeah the pool is obviously heated but the sun and blue skies rejuvenated me as much as the swim.

I spent the New Year on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. I flew home from Detroit’s airport. It was 20degrees with 20 MPH winds and that was the GOOD weather!
Bleak, dreary, and depressing.,,I feel for them but……GO BUCS!!!

A Saints fan, a Falcons fan, and a Panthers fan walk into a bar……

To watch the Buccaneers in the playoffs.

  12. ChiBuc Says:

I just got my tix to the game. MF’ers got $650+ for nosebleed endzone, but I gotta represent. If I can get down to endzone, look for your boy (Buc Boi…NOT Baker or Trask) trying to get those td footballs from Evans in my Creamsicle Evans jersey🤞🏼

  13. HC Grover Says:

    Bucs by a long FG

  14. Gipper Says:

No doubt there is a lot of interest in this game. All part of what makes the NFL great entertainment. Same is true with soccer around the world. Thus far the NFL hasn’t had to build moats around the fields to keep crazy fans off the field.

Hoping for the best. Really impressed with how Coach Bowles has been steady the second half of the season. Whatever happens tomorrow, he deserves to be back. Not every coach could integrate 13 rookies, new QB, and new OC into a successful season. Anybody doubt Bowles, just look at Sean Peyton in Denver this year. Bowles has been solid. The team has been at times confounding but mainly fun to watch.

  15. Stanglassman Says:

Gannon still has Bucs PTSD from that Superbowl beatdown.

  16. BucsBeBack (Artist formally known as: BringBucsBack) Says:

ChiBuc, I hope our Bucs make it worth your while! Watch out for the Philly, ugh, Detroit fan, they won’t be happy to see you there. We’ll be looking for your urrange 13! Go Bucs!

  17. NE Fan Says:

That will be two big games Bucs have been in where he picked the wrong team!!!

  18. Marky Mark Says:

All the retired QBs are picking the Bucs

  19. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Best of luck, ChiBuc.

  20. Woodenman Says:

Dam Joe you have got to get off that Bad vibe you keep putting on Bucs about our defense not handling thier offense no matter what anybody says good about bucs you always come back with yea but what about our defense not good karma Joe.

  21. UKBuccaneer Says:

Mrs UKBuccaneer is a Lions fan. Tomorrow is gonna be an interesting day. I’ve been a Bucs fan since 2004, she’s been a Lions fan since I introduced her to the sport in 2012. In that time one or both teams has always been terrible – never thought we’d go head-to-head with a place in the NFC championship game on the line…

  22. Woodenman Says:

NE Fan you picked more wrong than him now get out here you loser.

  23. NCalBucsfan Says:

    @Joe
Goff doesn’t thrive against the blitz.
This is snippet of a quote from your latest post I believe

“The Bucs must force Goff — who had a 23rd-ranked 10.0 QBR against pressure this season — to move in the pocket and speed up his clock.”

The Bucs should and will blitz Goff, who is and always has been prone to mistakes.

  24. BakerBucs Says:

    Is Geoff considered mobile?

  25. David Says:

Absolutely must get pressure but… They have got to cover Gibbs in the flats. He’s the most dangerous weapon they have, even more than a Amon Brown.

  26. ModHairKen Says:

This Baker criticism about him being hot, one game and cold another is such crap. Do you not see that there is a direct relationship between how well he performs and the blocking he gets from the Pillsbury doughboy at Center and the missing link at Guard? Or whether the receivers drop passes? Or whether White runs his nose straight up the fanny of the Pillsbury doughboy instead of going outside?

Brady was fantastic. But behind this line, he would’ve been dead.

  27. Marky Mark Says:

Uk Buc you gotta have some connection. I am a Forrest fan because my Dad was a 1950 university if Nottingham graduate. I was stationed in Bremen so I am Werder Bremen fan.

  28. orlbucfan Says:

ChiBuc got his tix for $650 a pop. The rumor mill had it floating around that the cheapest tix were over $1000 each. Either way, I will just listen to my gang on Bucs Radio. Those prices are BS. 💩

  29. Gipper Says:

GB and SF 6-7 halfway thru Q3. There is no “bad Purdy or bad Jordan Love.” The NFL has sought parity and they are getting it. Tough defensive game. All QB’s no matter how good the are challenged by intense defensive efforts. In earlier game that was tied 10-10 at half, CJ Stroud never could get it going. Lamar did get it going and Ravens win 10-34.

  30. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Aww a fanboi upset about truth told about his heart throb Baker? Soh sawee ! If he was more consistent in the games he played poorly we’d probably have 2 more wins and he’d have more tds.

The only way the Bucs win tomorrow is if they play the way they did against the Eagles. Canales needs to neutralize their front 4 and pass more on the earlier downs and Baker has to check down more when necessary and the defense has to find a better way to cover when blitzing

  31. Bradley Brown Says:

@since 76 . I don’t know what you are talking about. Baker Mayfield is two and one in the playoffs that’s a 67% rate

  32. UKBuccaneer Says:

My connection to the bucs is that whilst I’d watched NFL for a decade, I didn’t support a team particularly. Then on vacation in Florida I got lost in Tampa (before sat nav was a thing). I follows my nose trying to find my way back and ended up at the Ray Jay 🙂 That was 2004

  33. brooks Says:

We can’t run, they can end of story guys

  34. SavageBucsFan Says:

BucsFan…yes Chase Mclaughlin is a great kicker but the BEST kicker the Bucs have ever had was Martin Gramatica

  35. BA’s Red Pen Says:

St. Brown is a problem. If Bowles reverts to zone we get killed today but he has shown the ability to shut people down with schemes in the playoffs. I don’t think we’ll run that six man front today but if Neal is back out there we’re in trouble. 27-23 Bucs Win. I think we can all agree, Licht’s only miss last offseason was Neal. He seems like a fun and smart guy but he’s not good at football.

  36. Jeff Walker Says:

Amen on the importance of stopping Gibbs, David. For some reason he scares me most of all among their weapons on the O-side. And we didn’t see him when we played them earlier this year. Gotta minimize the disruption from Hutchinson, too. He’s a problem.

  37. Bucs'n'Bucks Says:

    Go Bucs!! Beat the Lions!!

    ‘Nuff said!!
