Ric Flair Says Baker Mayfield Worthy Of Stylin’ And Profilin’ With “The Nature Boy”

January 22nd, 2024

Bucs QB wheelin’ and dealin.’

“The Nature Boy” seems to want the Bucs to keep Baker Mayfield.

None other than Ric Flair, the wrestling legend, took to Twitter after the Bucs lost to the Lions to express his gratitude for what the Bucs and Mayfield accomplished this year.

So impressed is Flair, he Tweeted to Mayfield saying he didn’t have his number but he wants to hang out. Flair then gave the Bucs a shoutout for what he thought was an impressive season of fighting and scratching.

@RicFlairNatrBoy: @bakermayfield We’ve Only Met Once. As Of Today, I Have So Much Respect For You And The @Buccaneers ! You Played Your Heart Out. You’re A Badass! I Live In Tampa. I Don’t Have Your Number. I Would Love To Hang Out With You! You’re Such A Badass! I’m So Proud To Say That I’m A Buccaneers Fan! To The Whole Buccaneers Team, God Bless You! You Went Places You Weren’t Supposed To Go! Next Year, Let’s Kick Ass! WOOOOO!

Joe has two questions about this. First, how can Mayfield turn down a chance to hang with “The Nature Boy?”

The second question is, if Flair wants Mayfield, should that be the tipping point for the Bucs to bring Mayfield back?

Does Joe want Mayfield to return? Let Joe ask you: of the other three teams that lost in the divisional round this weekend, are you seeing or hearing of fans bellyaching to run off C.J. Stroud, Jordan Love or Josh Allen?

Mayfield made a fair point. Generally, players in the second season of an offense see a bump up in production. All the more reason for the Bucs to bring Mayfield back.

As “The Nature Boy” himself might say, “WWWOOO!”

Truthfully, Baker had a good year and played better than any rookie we would likely get in the draft. We should stick with Baker and we are stuck with Bowles. Canales was good enough and a second year with him is a plus. We need to beef up the lines on both sides of the ball–new center, guard, edge and more edge. Some parts of our team are so much better–kicker and punter! The run game will improve with bigger and better interior o-line. Rashad White has proved himself this year. I trust Jason Licht–last year he had a great draft!

  2. EricTheViking Says:

Yeah, this franchise needs to take advice from the nature boy.

    Mediocrity breeds mediocrity.

That’s how you get Bowles and Mayfield.

    Failure 101

  3. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

The question is whether we can afford him now.

  4. ‘79 Defense Says:

That’s freaking great. Well done, Ric Flair. —Of course the season didn’t end the way we wanted, but it hardly ever does or will. It was all much more fun than I expected and getting a convincing home playoff win was a real bonus. I hope Mayfield comes back. Nice to see the life he brings to the team.

  5. ModHairKen Says:

Anyone who doesn’t want Mayfield back is an idiot.

  6. Since76 Says:

Something happened in this game that happened in the early to mid part of the season. The offense has no protection from an edge Blitzer. After they got home a few times with it I thought ok they won’t let that happen again. But it continued and Canales didn’t correct it or adjust. Something that I thought canales fixed earlier in the season was not fixed. Baker didn’t see the edge blitzes coming and Canales didn’t help with protection. It was absolutely inexcusable. I think that lack of common sense cost us the game. Can anyone tell me why Canales would not adjust. It was like leftwich 2.0. I have no faith in him in the future. Seems like he do what he doos too. You have to adjust when they’ve got your number.

  7. Mort Says:

Joe, the correct spelling is always “WOOOOO!” It’s literally trademarked.

  8. Oxycondomns Says:

Yeah and it wasnt just the 3 sacks . There was a run for a 4yd loss that made it 2 nd and long that killed a drive. There was another time a lions players got so excited he knew he had a free lane but jumped offsides.

  9. Oxycondomns Says:

Other than that the offense played well . The defense on the other hand had a few players that looked like they didnt belong in this type of game. Bucs need to get younger on defense

  10. steele Says:

Mayfield’s performance reminded me a lot of some of the infamous Brett Favre games, where he had the Packers in potential game winning position, and suddenly throws an outrageous pick.

That is the risk with gunslingers, and Mayfield is a gunslinger. Do you prefer him and all of the attitude to someone who is smarter, more disciplined, and truly clutch?

    WOO!

  11. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Thing is, if we don’t have Canales next season you have to think twice about locking up Mayfield long term.

  12. Usedtocould Says:

Truly remarkable how far the franchise has come

  13. Oneilbuc Says:

This franchise would be stupid not to draft a quarterback Baker Mayfield is not getting us a superbowl. All of you who think Baker Mayfield would get us a superbowl are delusional. This is as far as we will go with Baker Mayfield and that’s depending on how good the division will be. Baker Mayfield is not a franchise quarterback regardless how much you guys love him . He had a average season which is not bad but we ain’t winning a superbowl with Baker Mayfield. We will be stuck just like the saints are with Derick Carr. Why do you guys love mediocrey it’s just crazy to me!!

  14. teacherman777 Says:

We had one of the lowest graded centers in the NFL.

Hainsey was ranked #30 of 33 by PFF.

Mauch was ranked #32 of 33 by PFF.

We need an expensive free agent guard or center. And then draft in the 1st or 2nd a guard or center. Whichever one we didn’t sign in free agency.

But the worst rushing attack in the NFL?

    Two years running? (Pun intended)

We need a a road grader at LG next to Wirfs.

And a new, nasty center like Jensen.

    Disappearing contracts?

Jensen. Brady. Gage. Donovan Smith. Devin White. Barrett.

Dead money? Plus unloading Barrett, Jensen, Gage and White?

I think we can keep our team together and add a pass rusher or a great interior offensive lineman.

  15. Beeej Says:

Can’t unload Barrett, he’s locked in.($24 million?) As for unblocked dudes splattering BM, line calls are either the QB or the center. They were blaming some of that on Goedeke, he blocked the man he was assigned to block

  16. The Dave Says:

We win our division and make the second round of the playoffs when we were expected to go 2-15. We had 13 rookies on the roster at the start of the year. Not to mention our handicap of a salary cap. A successful year, by any measure.

All the naysayers, whom I won’t mention, can go walk the plank. I’ll take this team any day and every day. HEY HEY HEY WE’RE THE BUCCANEERS…

  17. Bucs2413 Says:

Erictheviking & oneilbuc are both idiots. Baker played well enough to win yesterday’s game. The man made one poor decision all day, and clowns like those two want him gone. You take away the damn drops again and his numbers would’ve been incredible. First pic wasn’t on him, and he was locked in making Brady-esque plays all day until that final throw. How about direct your blame to the offensive line? Or defense? Or, let’s just be happy that we were a drive away from the conference title game and get excited to run it back next year with the same crew. We’re just better offensive line play from being a true contender.

  18. firethecannons Says:

agree with 2413, just need to focus on the O-Line and edge/pass rush and we are way better off. O-Line needs work–Mauch needs body makeover, Hainsey is a backup as is Feiler–we need that fixed! As far as edge goes, Yaya is our future, JTS needs to be planked. Education of Yaya and better players is in order. Please Joe story on what is available–never too soon so we can get the word out to Licht and company as you know–he listens to us!

  19. stpetebucfan Says:

Wow the Baker hate runs deep here! Enough to call the “Nature Boy” mediocre.

In another life…decades ago as a young guy just getting started out in broadcasting I was the morning guy on WKDY Spartanburg. For extra cash I also did the PA ring announcing for the NWA…pre WWE these guys ruled the South.

I got to see Andre the Giant and also Rick Flair! I had to sit in the corner just outside the ring where the guy who rang the bell also sat. One match “Nature Boy” is running his thing, jumps out of the ring and grabs my chair from under my arse…almost made me fall down lol…and then he takes it and “slams” it over his opponent.

I’ve never been a fan of “rasslin”. I like actual contests not staged shows.
Having said that I absolutely admire their athleticism and in Flairs case his gift for showmanship.

BTW…while I’m sure it was fixed they never included me in on the script. To this day I’ll never know when Nature Boy decided to grab my chair. Perhaps it was in the script all along?
