“Just Remarkable”

January 20th, 2024

The Bucs have a special quarterback.

But how special is he?

Joe isn’t quite sure, but Baker Mayfield did have a strong overall season. His top-10 numbers in many categories were no fluke, especially since he had a garbage running game and was in his first season with Tampa Bay.

A former player who has had access this season to Mayfield, Todd Bowles and playcaller Dave Canales as a FOX game analyst, Mark Schlereth, was talking on FOX this week about Mayfield has been an extraordinarily clutch quarterback.

“He has been uncanny, especially in the second half of this season, to perform his best in the most critical moments. And I talked to Dave Canales, their offensive coordinator, and he said it’s just remarkable, just remarkable what Baker has done in critical moments,” Schlereth said. “It’s almost the more pressure Baker is under, the more pressure that he feels, the better he’s going to play in situational football.”

Joe will agree that Mayfield hasn’t crumbled under pressure. Frankly, Joe never expected Mayfield to wilt. He was a veteran QB with playoff experience before he ever arrived in Tampa, and he was a clutch performer on big college stages.

Joe will not be worried about Mayfield tomorrow. Joe is far more concerned about the Bucs defense facing a real passing offense and a big-time offensive line.

It’s gunna be a battle, but if we play like we did last week we got a good shot at San Fran/GB next week.

  2. BucsBeBack (Artist formally known as: BringBucsBack) Says:

Remain calm, connect on the deep ball, a couple of draw plays (remember those), run OUTSIDE the tackles often, play-action, good o-line play! Oh, minimal zone on “D”, pretty please!

  3. Conte Piscatelli Says:

At least the last half of his career, Matt Ryan was perhaps one of the worst quarterbacks in football in high pressure clutch situations, yet he always put up fantastic fantasy numbers. He certainly wasn’t Matty Ice. And fans in Atlanta hated it.

  4. NE Fan Says:

Played like crap against Saints, not points in Carolina and beat up on a team that plummeted like a turd from an airplane losing 6 out of 7 games. Ya, what a remarkable finish. The D played good enough to keep them in the hunt. Eagles as bad as they played went into the half one score down and they played horrible.

  5. Gipper Says:

    Joe,

Thank you. Agree with you. After a season full of trying to reason with the haters, your comments today are perfect.

  6. Marky Mark Says:

In a matter of fact delivery Baker will tell anyone who will listen that he plays best in high pressure situations. Team mates have said he thrives on chaos. The crazier things are the calmer he gets.

  7. Tbbucs3 Says:

Baker has proved the many hater within this fan base wrong time and time again…..I have a feeling he’ll do it again

  8. Tye Says:

I was ‘it is what it is’ mindset when Baker was signed…
    new OC Canales hire…
Never believed in the ‘qb competition’ with Trask…
Figured we were in for a rough season….

Started off 3-1 was a pleasant surprise!
Right now I still firmly believe Bowles had much to do with the losing streak…
Bucs playing strong the last few games (minus the Panthers game)…

‘Joe is far more concerned about the Bucs defense’
That I totally agree with… Against top teams, Bowles often looked outdated with no answer and it seemed he was forcing Canales to run even when his defense got the Bucs far behind…

Confident in Canales as OC teamed with Baker playing entertaining football!…
Weakness in their armor: Todd Bowels!

  9. Let ‘em bake Says:

Jason Licht deserves a statue. When nobody had the foresight to bring baker in , he pulled the trigger. A beautiful confluence of events dovetailing in one season. The right qb. A defensive, even-keeled hc who cultivates growth in players, and patience in his oc. A division that allowed the team to stumble, yet advance. A perfect storm.

  10. Jmarkbuc Says:

Rachaad on wheel routes, instead of up the middle.

  11. orlbucfan Says:

2 minute drills, options, bootlegs, laterals with the Offense. Why not?

  12. Rod Munch Says:

I’m fine with Baker coming back, he’s earned it… but my God, stop with the fake news nonsense.

Baker has been completely inconsistent, 3 and 2 weeks ago, in huge games which secure the Bucs a playoff spot, he played his two worst games of the year, and if the defense doesn’t step up huge in Carolina, the Bucs aren’t even in the playoffs.

On Monday, Baker played a great game, gets tons of credit for that. But Baker has to dramatically improve his consistency if he’s going to be here long term, and if you’re a Baker fan, you should want that. Living in denial, pretending like that isn’t a massive issue with him, does no one any good.

Going back to the first game vs the Lions, that is a game that Baker lost single handedly with how incredibly inaccurate he was, he had guys running wide open downfield and kept missing them. The good news, however, is that Baker is really inconsistent, so that means this next time can be a completely different outcome if the good version of him shows up on Sunday.

Hopefully we get good Baker again on Sunday – and he tends to mostly appear vs the worst pass defenses, and the Lions are 27th in pass defense. If good Baker shows up, the Bucs have a real chance of advancing another week.

  13. Defense Rules Says:

‘Joe is far more concerned about the Bucs defense facing a real passing offense and a big-time offensive line.’

Me too Joe. Our #7 ranked defense is facing the #5 ranked offense in the NFL. Lions ran for 27 TDs (#1 in the NFL) and passed for 30 TDs (#4 in the NFL). Their running game was ranked #5 in Rushing Yards, while their passing game ranked #2 in Passing Yardage. Sounds to me like a team that can burn you with their run OR their pass. IOW … pretty nicely ‘balanced attack’.

Bucs OTOH aren’t nearly as well ‘balanced’ on defense. Our defense ranked #8 in Rushing TDs-Allowed, and #17 in Passing TDs-Allowed. But we ranked near the bottom (#29) in Passing Yardage Allowed, yet near the top (#5) in Rushing Yardage Allowed. Of course part of that resulted from our opponents only running on us on 39% of their plays (obviously felt they had better luck passing against us).

Stats-wise Detroit has the obvious edge, but in do-or-die playoff games, stats can quickly go out the window if one team falls behind early or is having luck in exploiting weaknesses that warrant adjusting the game plan. Getting ahead early is my preference, although it wouldn’t hurt to burn them a time or 2 early with successful deep throws to Evans, Godwin, Moore, Palmer or Otton.

  14. HC Grover Says:

    Hope Pack an Bucs win.

  15. Buccos Says:

The Bucs are tied for the best record over the past 7 games with Baltimore and Buffalo making them one of the hottest teams in the NFL. Hotter than Detroit. Way hotter than Philly. Hotter than San Fran and Green Bay. The Bucs have lost once in the past seven. This season is reminiscent of the Super Bowl season in 2020. We have excellent health and have established an identity behind Bowles and Mayfield. Two things that are paramount to playoff success. And best of all is the defense, having given up an average of 4.5 points per game since our playoffs began 2 weeks ago against Carolina. Defense wins championships. You can’t just outscore your opponent. You must be able to prevent them from scoring as well. This team is riding high in the saddle and Detroit doesn’t look unbeatable to me

  16. Gipper Says:

    Rod Munch,

Everyone is relieved that “you are fine with Baker coming back.” In truth few care what you think. You have been a nonstop, naysayer all season.

  17. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Rod

    I agree.

Baker had 5 good games. The rest – not so good…

Two bad games against N.O. and Carolina followed by a good game against Philly. Consistency is not his strong suit.

Let’s all hope that “good” Baker shows up and he is able to connect on a few of those longer throws that he missed the first time around.

    Go Bucs!

  18. Cobraboy Says:

It’s been fun to watch a new QB, OC, and OL come together after a nasty nid-season slump, to become a credible force.

    This is not unlike 2020.

Here is hoping the similarities continue.

  19. Tbbucs3 Says:

    Rod

Hows that 5-12 and Baker benched by the bye week prediction going?

Daily Reminder that nobody should listen to Rods takes especially when it comes to Baker Mayfield

Also Marinebuc, if Baker only had “5 good games” the Bucs would not be a game away from a championship game.

  20. Esteban85 Says:

NE fan: you conveniently left out his perfect game in Lambeau field. You know the one where he is the only visiting quarterback in NFL history to do so?

Baker is tough and won’t easily be knocked out of games. Baker has a hell of an arm. Baker can scramble for first downs. Baker is a great asset in the locker room and finally Baker is a winner. The fans love him and the team loves him. We are in the freaking divisional round of the playoffs when we were slated as a 4-6 win team. How and why is there still people out there that can’t get on the Baker train?? He is part of the future here in Tampa Bay.

  21. Bucsfanman Says:

Munch is right though. In fact, we need more consistency on all sides of the ball.

    Go Bucs!

  22. OlBoy Says:

I clicked so I might as well add:

No. No he’s not and it’s not even close. But I do hope we win today and I hope he brings a strong, unrelenting, and acfurate game.

  23. Esteban85 Says:

    Are

  24. Esteban85 Says:

No? Then who is the starting quarterback for the buccaneers in 2024?

  25. Esteban85 Says:

Yes Baker can be more consistent, but the same can be said of the O line, the running backs, the tight ends and the receivers who probably do the best work of all the offensive players. The point is, this is a team game, Baker is just one of eleven, but he is able to elevate his game and the game of his teammates simply by his moxie and his skill.

  26. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Tbbucs

Depends on what you consider a “good” game…

He also had some mediocre games mixed in with the bad ones.

I’m not saying he was good for 5 and bad for 13… He had 5-6 bad games and the rest were just so-so.

  27. CalBucsFan Says:

Statistical offense and defense rankings have merit and are no doubt used to determine which team’s the favorite vs. the underdog, as well as even establish odds and point spreads for those willing to risk their hard-earned cash.

However, there is no measurement or scale to add to the algorithm for the one element vital to tomorrow’s game, the team’s chemistry with Baker Mayfield.

I have not been a big fan of him becoming the Bucs’ starting QB this year. Frankly, after TB retired, I was more interested in getting one of the young QBs in the upcoming highly-rated QB draft class than believing any QB cast-off be better. After all, the rest of the division sucked too, so retooling with a young promising QB made a lot of sense while in cap purgatory anyway.

Baker won over the coaches and got the starting nod. At first, it didn’t seem to matter because with a 4-7 start the Bucs were headed towards a top-10 pick, but then something clicked. During that time, Baker didn’t pout on point fingers at any coach or teammate, he put the team on his back and won over the locker room with his efforts and then won over the fan base.

Is it enough to win tomorrow? No doubt the Bucs are the underdogs, but their QB is a street-dog who will have to be carted off the field before he surrenders. And as an original ’76 BucFan, he’s won me over too, so go Bucs and go get them Lions Big Dog Baker!

  28. Marine Buc Says:

    @ TBbucs

I will say that Baker has done a solid job at taking care of the football and that is what our head coach values most…

Only threw 2 INTs once (Saints), threw 1 INT in 8 games and didn’t throw any INTs in 9 games – and Baker was under constant pressure all season.

This is also why we are in the play-offs.

  29. WyomingJoe Says:

The BS that NEFart, Capt’n Crunch and David spew out on a daily basis goes far beyond being toxic. Their hatred for Mayfield and Bowles is greatly unfounded based on the expectations of the national media and many of the other losers of this fan base when the season began. Their Cult has grounded to a halt, but they’re just too stupid to know it. Real Bucs fans don’t whine and squeal like these total losers. Time for them to spread their vile on another team because they’ve become nothing more than a laughing stock.

    Keep winning Bucs.

    Keep winning Baker.

  30. HC Grover Says:

    Good now play the game.

  31. Dave Pear Says:

The know it alls who nitpick Mayfield’s performance are comical. Watch games from Brady’s last year, even his first year. He missed tons of throws. I worry about Todd getting cold feet and shy away from the attack mode, directing Canales to play the turtle offense we saw against the Saints and Panthers. If they keep the throttle down.Baker will be fine.

Like Joe says, this game is dependent on the defense playing to their top form. Which means Todd needs to avoid his infamous zone bust coverages, and his cover zero receivers blitzes. Pressure Goff with 4 or 5 and Bucs can win.

  32. I’m tired and 87 is right Says:

Bowels just needs to be able to adjust and we have a chance! Go Bucs!

  33. Ex-Browns02 Says:

Marine! Am I to believe what I’m reading? You’re turning around — seeing the light? Let’s hear it for Marine! Leaving Munch and David in the dust!! Welcome aboard Marine!!!

Can’t wait until tomorrow afternoon. If the Bucs stay on course the Lions are going to have their hands full! But — win or lose, man, this team has shown some fortitude!

    Go Bucs!

  34. Rod Munch Says:

Tbbucs3 – How are you so sensitive that I just point out literal facts and it triggers you? I get that you’re a Baker Boi, but do you really think Baker was great vs the Saints and Panthers, in must in games? Because he wasn’t. With that said, he was great vs the Eagles.

I’m not rooting against him, I absolutely don’t want him to fail, and I’ve said he’s earned his keep and I think he should be back next year.

At the same time, he must improve consistency. Why do you think that is something that can’t be said without making you upset?

Also, for the record, here’s my season predictions since 2015…

    2015 – prediction, 6-10 : Outcome, 6-10
    2016 – prediction, 9-7 : Outcome 9-7
    2017 – prediction, 5-11 : Outcome 5-11
    2018 – prediction, 5-11 : Outcome 5-11
    2019 – prediction, 7-9 : Outcome 7-9
2020 – prediction, 11-5, will beat the Saints in the plays : Outcome, 11-5 beat the Saints in the playoffs
    2021 – prediction, 13-4 : Outcome 13-4
    2022 – prediction, 10-7 : Outcome 8-9
    2023 – prediction, 4-7 after 11 games, outcome 4-7 after 11 games

So, I’d say my record is pretty remarkable, dead on accurate until Bowles took charge, when I overestimated him last year and underestimated him this year – although was still dead on accurate after 11-games.

Baker has overperformed, but pretending like he’s been amazing and is single handedly why the Bucs win, and never to blame when they lose, is why the Baker Bois are a joke.

  35. Tbbucs3 Says:

I trust Baker to show up ready to play….

To me its more about which version of Canales is going to show up….run run pass Canales or the aggressive version vs the Packers…..

Also, we cant afford to drop balls like we did against Philly, the margin for error wont be there vs the Lions. Mike Evans needs a bounce back game this week.

  36. A Bucs Fan Says:

I’m seeing that the money is on the lions winning out right at -6.5 and that means the Bucs will keep it close or win.

  37. stpetebucfan Says:

Jeebus NEFan you’re starting to embarrass yourself!!!!

You look at 17 games and pick out the two where Baker was just beginning to recover from the sprained ankle and had bruised ribs!!!

Why don’t you mention the dramatic comeback he had to outduel one of the rising young QB’s in his own crib down in Houston.

You’re such an amazing freaking hypocrite!!! You chide us for cherry picking the good stuff while you pick the two games where Baker was clearly still recovering from injuries. You diminish every freaking success…well GB was slumping so ROUTING them in historic Lambeau crib was also just the luck of timing…slamming Jax…yeah they were in a slump…

You won’t have to worry about any more insults from NE…I now have you in the same class as David…and so I won’t bother with another one of your lamearse whiny posts.

GET A FREAKING LIFE!!! Trolling sports blogs? Really? I guess I’m guilty as well. I certainly wouldn’t waste my tme trolling ignorant chowder heads on Pat blogs but the fact that I responded to you shows how damn dumb I am.
    Won’t make that mistake again!!!

    ………………..

6 regular season games against the Taints, Brady played like crap in every one of them. Why do you suppose that was?

  39. Ex-Browns02 Says:

Maybe it’s just me, but I really think that most of this season — including the mid-slump — was due to coach Bowles.

Think about the Lions game during the early season. It was run, run, pass on offense and soft zone on defense. Goff had a field day with our secondary!

Fast forward: Again, my opinion, but I think that the whole “evolution” of the team has been due to coach Bowles, who finally figured out that the team was not going to win with his traditional/conservative strategies. He’s turned his defense aggressive and handed over the offensive reins to Canales to let the guns roar!

Let’s see which team takes the field tomorrow. Goff does not respond well to pressure and the Lions defense has not seen this version of the Buc’s offense. To me, the only question is whether or not the Bucs can contain the Lions’ run game in the process. That will be key.

  40. stpetebucfan Says:

“The good news, however, is that Baker is really inconsistent,”

No the good news for somebody not trying to protect his massive ego from moronic earlier statements is that Baker was consistent enough to get a Heisman Trophy.

He was consistent enough to lead the worst freaking franchise in football at the time….horrible coaches…HORRIBLE owner…they were literally WINLESS the year before they selected Baker. Let me type that out for you Muncher…as in ZERO wins and 1-15 the season before that. Do you comprehend the level of suckitude…1-31!!!!!

2018 After an 0-1-1 start to the season, Mayfield replaces an injured Taylor in the second quarter of the Browns’ Week 3 matchup against the New York Jets on Thursday Night Football. The rookie quarterback leads Cleveland to a 21-17 come-from-behind victory

By his 3rd season he was 11-5 and followed that up with a win over the Steelers IN PITTSBURGH to advance to the game against Mahomes in KC where the Browns played well. Then he got injured and cursed with OBJ…coaching changes and again one of the sorriest franchises in recent years. I say this as an old Browns fan…before they left for Baltimore.

In 2 of his first 5 games this season Jared Goff tossed TWO INTS and the Lions lost both, one of them to the freaking Chicago Bears. Is he inconsistent?

This season Josh Allen tossed 7 ints in a six game stretch that featured 4 losses including to the horrid NE Pats. Is he inconsistent?

What’s inconsistent is the quality of your posts Rod. They go from informed to absolutely sucko depending on the need to defend your ego from earlier stupid statements.

  41. Buckeyebuckchuck Says:

Even more remarkable; the number of people posting here that still call old boy a crap QB, when the expectation was drafting high this year. A bunch of bitter old crabs

  42. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Ex-Browns02

    LOL!

My position has been pretty consistent. I believe Baker Mayfield is an average NFL QB. He isn’t bad but he isn’t top 10 either. I would probably put him @ #15 or so. That is just my opinion.

I also do not like short QBs due to all the blocked passes and vision downfield when pressured.

Other than that I think Baker has outperformed his current contract and that is awesome. I hope the Bucs are able to bring him back but not if it is more than $30M per season.

  43. Cobraboy Says:

Thing is, the last time Bowles was aggressive with Goff, Kupp burned the Bucs D bigly.

  44. NE Fan Says:

The article is about then end of the season. Reading is fundamental stp@ Beej, because BA had no answer for the Saints. One of those games Brady brought them back and Trevor Simeon drove down the field with 1:36 left to win the game. I call that a D loss on Bowles the guru.

  45. Ex-Browns02 Says:

Kupp? What season are we talking about? Is this a another “should’ve watched more film” moment?

  46. Brian Says:

This is the problem with Baker. He shows you what is possible but he also can also fall flat. It’s almost a coin toss each game which baker shows up.

  47. BAKERSBucs says Says:

If baker is about # 15 among qb’s why r all his stats except for 2 in the top 10 stats do u r research it is easy to do u don’t even have to use u r fingers u can just ask siri she is really smart

  48. Ex-Browns02 Says:

Marine: Come on, don’t water down the moment! You’ve totally exposed yourself . Don’t be ashamed. But — please do reverse your opinion of our 6′ pilot. Do you have NFL RedZone, or have access to it? Just watch all the games and you’ll see that QBs of all heights get slapped down. I watched Trevor Lawrence get slapped down the week before we beat him.

I said it earlier in the season: Blocked passes are just excellent defensive plays! And, these plays happen to QBs of all heights!

Her you go with repetitious articles on Baker. This time degrading the defense.
You are dead wrong in spinning this to please Baker’s fan not Bucs fans.

Bucs are in playoffs due to Baker’s plays not their defense!!!!!!
Did you write this article in happy hours at the local bar ?

It is amazing how you have been so feared of running a flash poll all season on Bucs fans confidence/performance or Bucs fans confidence in retaining Baker. Why ? You knew you that would have those polls would have resulted against Baker at the time with Baker’s inconsistent plays all season long.

Moreover you were so quick in presenting the Bucs fans with flash poll on Todd Bowls coaching after each loss not Baker.

Now you still discrediting TB in favor of Baker when he is the one who saved the season in the last game vs Panthers.

No Joe, Bucs are in playoffs playing in weak division and despite of Baker.
It will all come to end if Baker doesn’t show up as within his journeyman career against good teams. I hope not. Go Bucs.

  60. David Says:

    warning in advance Bucs Fans;
Prepare yourself for a flash poll in your confidence in retaining Baker if somehow we win tomorrow despite of Baker. I hope so.

The name of the game is wining the championship games not wining the toilet bowl division of NFL. Have TB/BM won any in the last decade ? Hell no.

  61. UKBuccaneer Says:

There were games the the defense won in spite of awful offense. There were games that terrible defense (particularly the secondary) lost after good offensive performances. It’s been a mixed bag – but none of that matters. It’s the divisional round, and we’re 60 minutes away from another NFC championship game.

  62. Mike C Says:

David, you are a D bag, that is all.

  63. Gipper Says:

Watching two outstanding QB’s CJ Stroud and Lamar Jackson battle to a 10-10 halftime score Houston vs Baltimore. It is not a question of the “good or the bad” CJ or Lamar. The NFL is very tough for every QB. All NFL QB’s at this level of play are tremendous players. Need to acknowledge that the NFL is ultra competitive on both sides of the ball. Another point that makes life difficult for any NFL QB is that you could probably call defensive pass interference on almost every pass play. Defensive backs constantly hand check and grab at receivers hands and arms while ball is in air. The refs let most of this stuff go unless it is so obvious they have no choice. Scoring is down in the NFL across the board this year, I think because of the handsy db play.

  64. Mike C Says:

So Purdy, Josh, Love, Goth, Lamar should all just pack up and go home because they haven’t “done it before ” great take D bag.

  65. UKBuccaneer Says:

If we get a safety and win the game 2-0 I’m not gonna cry.

    Just win baby. LFG!

  66. Ex-Browns02 Says:

Second prediction this season (First was against GB — spot on!): Bucs prevail — again! Tune in tonight to see who (and where!) we will be playing that NFC Championship game.

And — Am I a Baker fan? Yeah, that’s how I got here. But — if you don’t think that I’m not now a Bucs fan? Forget it! Why? Duh! Love all of these guys!!

Retiring in a couple of years. Might have to migrate to TB!

  68. BakerFan Says:

I will go with what the HC, OC and teammates say about Baker. Not the likes of the naysayers on this board. I think they know way more than you whiners.

BTW, watching the game today both Jackson and Stroud both have almost thrown interceptions, you think their fan boards are going to say, yeah but they almost threw some picks. NOPE

  69. David Says:

Here is one of the Baker’s trash bois throwing tantrum comparing his trash qb to Josh A. and Lamar J. LOL
No one said that they are great qb’s but they have at least wining records, beat wining teams and they are not journeymen either.

    Baker trash fans;
Your won trash qb, admitted he played so poorly in last game vs Lions. He had zero touch down, one pick with 17 quarter back rating.

Morons Baker fans, wait until your boy win against a good team in the playoff or at the minimum get Bucs to the NFC championship game before you trashing anyone else.

  70. Marky Mark Says:

All I know is consistent Dak Prescott, Jalen Hurts, and Tua What ever are long gone. Gone baby gone.

  71. David Says:

  72. David Says:

    Baker trash fans;
Induce a relax mode until tomorrow. If Baker performs well, we will win and Bucs win. We all be happy regardless. If Baker lays eggs again, no ones be shocked . He is a journeyman without a real win in his resume. He will resume his journey on to the next city if we lose. Let’s win tomorrow. Go Bucs.

  73. Gipper Says:

    David,

When Bucs win tomorrow, will you promise to jump off the middle of Tampa Bay bridge.

  74. Drunkinybor Says:

I have alot of confidence this week. I’m confident nobody on the Bucs will be scared. Goff has experience and his really good against the blitz. I suspect a surprise where we don’t blitz nearly as often as usual. If we can’t get any pressure doing that we will adjust l. Hopefully it won’t be like the start to that Eagles nfc championship game with a long return and Duece scoring a easy touchdown on that first drive. We need to quiet this crows. This is a completely different team then the one I saw during the losing streak. This B7cs team is legit scary if the Lion Cubs take us lightly we will beat thier butts. I got Bucs 31- Lions 20

  75. David Says:

    Baker fans,
Don’t worry, Lamar J is another trash qb who hasn’t won anything (1w-3L) in playoffs. You just need to concentrate on the other side of the ball qb, CJ Stroud. He could take Texans to AFC Championship game for first time in their team history.

    ^^^
Uppity NE Fan, and then we went on to beat the NFC champions from last year in the playoffs. Enjoy chocking on that clam chowder while you cry over Tom Brady and Bill Belichick no longer being with the Patriots and take your anger out against the Buccaneers organization

  78. DBS Says:

David. You’re moving in the right direction now. Please keep it up. Your brother Son of Trask didn’t last long attacking the wrong person.

  79. David Says:

Toilet Bowl needs to pressure Goff. He was 21-21 completions without pressure while he was 0-6 with the defensive pressure in last week game.

Are you familiar with the idea of a fan base supporting the teams starting quarterback? Let alone one whos gotten us to a 2d playoff game?

If the Bulldog in your username represents UGA then im not surprised by an idiotic comment

  81. David Says:

    Baker Fans;
would you promise to get the hell out of Tampa/this website if the trash version Baker shows up tomorrow as he did in the last game ?

  83. David Says:

Speaking of Ragnow, he’s by far the strongest center in the league. Remember Akiem Hicks – 330 or so? Miller and Kirwan said on SiriusXM this week that they saw Ragnow push Hicks 7 yards deep, then pick him up and slam him.

That’s incredibly impressive, so it’ll be an interesting matchup with Ragnow and Vea. Love to see Vea bullrush Ragnow or toss him around – that’d be epic.

    Anyway, done with my man-strength rant… Go Bucs ! ! !

  99. NaplesBucsFan Says:

    Let’s go Packers

  100. Buccos Says:

The cream is rising to the top. Baltimore advances. Now if Green Bay can take care of San Fran we can have NFC Championship Game in Tampa. I will put a mortgage on my house to buy tickets on 40 yard line lower bowl. It must pass

  101. infomeplease Says:

Bucs need to play action pass/motion on first down to set up the run. Worked last Monday will work on Sunday! Defense needs to show up again. Need another great performance from Specail teams too!!! Also both coordinaters need to stay agressive! It can be done!! LFG!!!!!!

  102. Rod Munch Says:

Is this Packers coach a Bowles disciple? Why in the world you would care more about a timeout than throwing the fall and challenging that spot? What an idiot.

  103. Rod Munch Says:

The Packers give up a TD, but at least they saved a timeout.

    What an idiot coach.

  104. HC Grover Says:

  105. Mike C Says:

Ne fan what has your franchise done without Brady? Mine has a Super bowl, enjoy your 100 year Brady curse masshole.

  106. Buc You Says:

If th Bucs somehow pull off a win tomorrow, they will be ONE game away from the super bowl.

That’s actually crazy when you think that just a few weeks ago folks were upset with Bowles and Baker.

  107. Jmarkbuc Says:

Good to see a hard hitting, good tackling game for a change.

    Both teams are popping.

  108. Since76 Says:

The team will show up in the first half. Depending on the Baker the offense gets will determine the game by half time. Sometimes the truth is hard to hear. I’m not saying it’s going to go the wrong way. But I think everyone will know by the second offensive possession. Go bucs!!!!!!

  109. Rod Munch Says:

Marky Mark – Of course, and the defense has also won games when Baker has been terrible, as in both of the Carolina games.

But quarterback is literally the most important position in sports for a reason, if your QB is off you almost never have a chance to win – short of having the 2002 Bucs defense or you’re playing a historically bad offense like the Panthers.

In any case I wasn’t bashing Baker – I literally gave the guy props for playing a great game on Monday, and I want him to play like that every week. If he can do that, the Bucs will have a great shot at winning just about every game.

But if he comes out like he did vs Detroit in week 6, or like he was vs the Panthers just two weeks ago, and is missing guys running wide open by 10 yards, then the Bucs will have no chance no matter what the rest of the team does. That is what Baker has to figure out this offseason, and if he does, he’ll be around for a long time.

  110. Rod Munch Says:

Well that was well worth saving your timeout and not challenging the bad spot earlier. Great job Packers coach.

  111. Kidfloflo Says:

Baker wins the super bowl…but he played in a dome with no wind! Start Trask next season

He should have been benched after losing 6 of 7.

    That is horrible.

  115. Rod Munch Says:

    Fun game so far tonight.

For tomorrow I just hope we get a real game and not the refs rigging it for the Lions. However if they want to rig it for the Bucs, then I’m cool with that.

  116. Bucfan1988 Says:

    Goooooo Packers!!!!! 21 to 14!!

  117. Tbbucs3 Says:

    Bonzai,

You clearly have no idea what your talking about, the defense played poorly throughout that stretch to say Baker shouldve been benched is utter nonsense.

You and Rod Munch have been in a steady competition for being most wrong all year.

I have been DAVID on this site for years. I don’t know who that other ”David” is but shouldn’t they be forced to have a different name?

  123. Tbbucs3 Says:

If the Packers keep this up, were 1 win away from a home conference championship.

But yeah Baker “shouldve been benched”….thank god our coaches dont listen to the garbage takes half of this fan base spews

  124. Rod Munch Says:

stpetebucfan – hey old timer, it’s literally good news Bake is inconsistent because last time he faced the Lions, he single handedly lost the game. If he WAS consistent, it means he’d go out and lose the game again.

Also if he’s not inconsistent, how do you explain him having the two best games of his career vs the Packers and Jags, then following it up with literally his two worst games of the season vs the Saints and Panthers when the pressure is on and the Bucs have to win to make the playoffs, then after the defense gets the W in Carolina, Baker comes back and plays a great game vs the Eagles.

That is LITERALLY what inconsistent means.

Man, the fact you Baker Bois are triggered by facts says so much about you idiots. I’m good with Baker returning, not bashing him, saying I hope he can be more consistent next year and if he is, he’ll be here for a long time, and you oversensitive cupcakes throw a hissy fit. Talk about your mental lightweights.

Anyways, unlike you dullards, I’m hoping Baker comes out tomorrow and plays another great game. Meanwhile you idiots will literally say anything is the greatest game ever played, regardless of what actually happened, which is why your opinion is 100% worthless.

  125. Jack Clark Says:

Are the 49ers tanking too? Or is that only when the Bucs beat good teams?

    ———

True, but that Packers defense was missing multiple starters and in complete disarray. If they hold, and if the Bucs can win tomorrow, it won’t be the same team they faced last time when their defense was on three game slide where they made Tommy DeVito, Baker, and Bryce Young all look like future Hall of Famers. If that matchup was to happen, it means the Eagles and Lions both made the mistake of assuming they’d just run over a team they already beat – and the Bucs would be really dumb to make that same mistake.

Not that you were saying that, obviously. Just pointing that out since I really didn’t pay attention to it at the time, but listening to Packers podcasts after the game, they were crying and whining and wanting their DC fired, and they brought up the injuries in order to say ‘dont use all the injuries as an excuse’ for not firing him.

Meanwhile, a few weeks later with all their starters back, it’s a different defense, so it was in fact a very valid excuse.

  128. Jack Clark Says:

    @Rod Munch I thought you were #TEAMPOSITIVE? 😜

  129. EricTheViking Says:

Beat the Lions on the road with the NFC title game on the line.

Then we can talk about Baker being a great pressure player.

Beating terrible teams in the worst division in football isn’t impressive.

30+ points will be needed to take out the Lions.

    LFG!!!

  133. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Special really??? Are you serious??? Look at his record there is nothing special about him. This season is nothing special because he played as badly at times as he played well! The Baker fanbois male cheerleader squad is in full effect. We know which fanboi Joe wrote this. Fanbois don’t need consistency from Baker they just need him in their lives. He gives their lives true meaning. He could throw 50 yards and a pick and they’d be happy just as long as they get to see him. They sound like some political rally supporting some crazy fake tan funny hair do guy, just ridiculous. Regardless of the fact I’m no fanboi he is our qb so he better play well tomorrow cause you fanbois gonna read about it if he doesn’t. Just be ready with your standard excuses. I want the Bucs to win so Go Baker get medieval on their buttons! GO BUCS

  136. Rod Munch Says:

Tbbucs3 – Can always count on the Baker Bois to take offense to a factual statement that wasn’t even aimed at their cult leader.

Anywho, go look up the Tommy DeVito mania that swept NY, then followed by Baker here, then see Bryce Young having the best game of his career. All three happened in a row after playing the Packers defense which was in complete disarray.

And Baker played great the following week vs the Jags, so it wasn’t a shot at him you idiot – I’m just warning at being overconfident, should the game even occur.

  137. Rod Munch Says:

  150. Tony marks Says:

Say what you want about Love being a solid Qb but

That was probably the most brain dead throw I’ve EVER seen a QB make with a shot to extend his team’s playoff run.

From the moment he tthrew it I was like what???? and KNEW it would be picked without even seeing the coverage. Ints are a part of the game but that was just – here take the ball back.

If any of them had ever attempted, even the simplest, measure of athleticism, they’d be unable to make such painfully stupid and uninformed assessments of Mayfield’s ability and accomplishment.

  157. Mrrr Says:

  160. Bucs4 Eva Says:

It only takes 1 play to change an entire game. If we pressure Goff and get a big hit on him early we will be shaken all game long. That is what happened in all of Detroits losses this season. Baker however takes the hit and gets back up.Even in the games the Bucs have lost alot of them were by 1 score or less and we had chances to win but poor clock management made Baker make mistakes in the ones he didn’t lead a comeback in.

I troll Buc fans at time because they bring non football things up on this board at times and they don’t like it because I call them out on it.
I will always troll the Baker fanbois male cheerleaders pep squad because they are not Buc fans although I know St Pete is a Bucs fan, he just has a temporary fanbois pass right now.
He was up here before me and will be here long after all the fanbois go bye bye as well.
They are the reason I would be happy to see Baker gone even if he helps us win the Super Bowl because they are as insufferable and irritating as male cheerleaders and the hiccups because they have brought down the quality of this board.

  163. Duane in Sanford Says:

He has been exactly what we needed when we needed it all season. Likely to be better next season with more continuity and better talent around him. He kept this offense on life support early while feeding ME13 the ball, and he did not give the ball away as much as Jameis did. He will get the most credit and blame for the team’s success, but its ability to play within the team gameplan. When Bowles gets this defense going, Baker holds serve on offense. Still not sure where all the angst comes from when discussing this team and its players this season. So many haters in such a small pond.
