Insane Quickness By Calijah Kancey

January 16th, 2024

Toyed with Eagles.

Holy smokes this is crazy good.

Joe knew Bucs first-round pick Calijah Kancey was supposed to be quick. Joe never realized just how quick Kancey really is.

Yeah, Joe has seen Kancey put on very impressive moves. This one may take the cake. And it’s not like Kancey was doing this against some USFL player.

It seemed most of last night, Kancey worked Eagles offensive lineman Landon Dickerson and embarrassed him on national television.

Former NFL offensive lineman Brian Baldinger did film study of last night’s game and highlighted Kancey. In one particular play (Joe still can’t believe how quick Kancey was) the video is in slow motion but looks like real time.

Kancey did an inside swim move on Dickerson in a blink of an eye. How quick was Kancey? Well, the play was a run to D’Andre Swift. Kancey was past Dickerson before Swift took the handoff.

Naturally, Kancey blew up the play.

With a guy that has the speed of Kancey playing next to a beast with the brute force of Vita Vea, the Bucs’ inside game on the front line is set for a while.

  1. Dave Pear Says:

I’m pretty sure Jason Kelce was the Eagles center, but, yeah.

  2. Lt. Dan Says:

Kancey and Ya Ya in an NFL weight room this off season. Right now they both have the equivalent of baby fat. D@mn Jason Licht! Take a freakin bow sir!

  3. Bucfan1988 Says:

Lt Dan, don’t forget to add Cody Mauck to that weight room group….I think he’s gonna be a good one as well when he gets some grown man strength & weight added….

  4. BelleGladeBuc Says:

Kancey was dominating an All Pro and future Hall of Fame C in Kelce and a Pro Bowl Guard in Landon Dickerson.

  5. Surfslowson Says:

That was Eagles LG not C

  6. Mike Says:

Yep, Kancey was living in the backfield last night. Future looks bright for this kid for sure!

  7. Lt. Dan Says:

@Bucfan 1988 – good call. Add Cody Mauck to the list of college, pizza for breakfast dudes that’ll put on man strength this off season! Take another bow Mr. Licht.

  8. Marine Buc Says:

I’m so excited to watch this guy continue his development.

    What a beast.

PFF had him ranked as their #8 overall draft prospect and the Bucs stole him with pick #19.

    Can you say VALUE?

  9. Buchead Says:

Kelce looked last night like age finally caught up with him.

  10. SlyPirate Says:

Every post since the game I’ve asked, “Did y’all see Kancey last night?” Game ball.

Watch the trenches. It’s where the game is won/lost.

    SPEAKING OF …
Wirfs sucked last night (well … sucked for Wirfs). Pushed backwards and got beat more than once. He’s obviously injured. I hope he isn’t hurt too badly.

  11. WillMuny Says:

It is amazing how Jason Licht went from a Horrible GM to a Great GM. Just look at all his moves prior to the JPP trade, then look at all his moves after the JPP trade it is literally night and day.

  12. DoooshLaRue Says:

Kancey is one of my favorite Bucs.
    Outstanding speed and determination.
I’ll go out on a limb and say that ice cream and comic books are not two of his passions.

  13. J Says:

Licht deserves to be executive of the year

  14. Mr. Barf Says:

His speed and decisiveness is Assassins Creed level

  15. MadMax Says:

Kancey is a BEAST! Mr. Licht Nailed that pick plus YaYa….both were off my radar while researching….i just dont have the time to do it like i used to.

Btw, I hit a big one last night. $1499 from two tickets ($45 bet). This time Im going with the ravens, packers,Bucs, bills…whatever the point spread.

  16. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Do any of the young players remind of JPP? Just wondering.

I’m so mad I had to miss this game!

I have to work one more Sunday this month, and one Saturday. Thankfully, in thos cases I cane sneak watching football.

  17. Chris K Says:

This is amazing film! The future for this kid might be special!

  18. orlbucfan Says:

In Licht I Trust! I saw that saying a while ago, and it stuck. He made me a solid believer when he signed UDFA Cam Brate. Kancey is scary fast and agile for a big guy. Can you imagine what he’s gonna be like next season. Wowsers!

  19. BelleGladeBuc Says:

Way to go Mad Max!!! You hit it big!!!!!

  20. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    MadMax

Remember I had the following on my list.

    YaYa Diaby
    Kobie Turner
    Byron Young
    Puka Nacua

  21. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    MadMax

Take a moment to look into Stanford’s tight end, Benjamin Yurosek.
He’s going to be a good prospect.

  22. Rod Munch Says:

Kancey was good this year, even if his numbers aren’t amazing. Next year, I think he’s going to make a big leap and go from good, to one of the best.

Then pair that with YaYa, and Cody … heck maybe Palmer becomes that solid #3, and Dennis is healthy.

What a draft it has been already, but what a draft it could become if you got superstars in Kancey and YaYa, and Cody sends the offseason putting on size.

  23. Saskbucs Says:

Could have used those picks Saturday morning MadMax

  24. Dom Says:

Kancey has been one of our best defenders since he entered the lineup week 5. Him and Yaya have been the teams best pass rushers. Would love to see this team add an elite pass rusher like Danielle Hunter. Maybe trade for Mad Maxx if the Raiders continue to piss him off

  25. Eckwood Says:

    He Showed Out !!

  26. BelleGladeBuc Says:

    Sly Pirate

At 1:45 before the half Graham sacked Baker after 4 seconds in the pocket from the snap at 1:52.

Graham got pressure on Baker at 1:48 and eventually sacked Baker at 1:45.

He was Wirfs guy, but it was a clear coverage sack and Baker did the right thing and ate it.

Nothing Wirfs or Baker could have done about it and that was the only sack or hit that Wirfs gave up.

Better to live and fight another day than force a bad throw.

Hainsey and Mauch and Stinnie accounted for the other 3 sacks and 6 QB hits on Baker as they were rag dolled by Fletcher Cox and company.

We need to fix our interior offensive line.

  27. ModHairKen Says:

Yesterday is over. I hope that is Bowles message.

  28. cmurda Says:

Kancey is the real deal. By the way, I’d like it to be known that Licht drafted a boatload of the men starting on this team right now. Arrow pointed up for nearly all of them. Lock Licht up on a 37 year contract. Dude is fantastic.

  29. cmurda Says:

Nice to see this board full of the regulars.

    @madmax
    @luvmybucs.

Both of you settle down. You both are pretty darn good with the scouting/combine/draft. Bwahaha

Side note: I went back on the game thread right after we locked up the win and instead of celebrating, there continues to be those select few that have to call out the Baker haters or Bowles haters or whatever. Listen, don’t give me your holier than thou crap. This is a game of emotion. If Baker is sucking ass for a few games in a row, yes, he will get called out and rightfully so. When the team is losing games and lo0ok out of whack, Bowles is going to get called out.

How about we all celebrate the fact that no matter what was said or how we felt, it’s a pretty universal belief that Bowles and Baker should be back next year. I reserve the right to change my mind whenever I want. And all of you whiny hater baiters can suck my balls.

  30. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

Sick moves Kancey! Keep growing and dominate!

  31. firethecannons Says:

Kancy and YaYa both excellent value. Honestly I cannot tell whether Kancy is in midst of good game–it is a blur. I need these breakdowns to tell what we got. Thanks Joe love hearing about Kancy and YaYa. The defense was a pleasure to watch as a whole.

  32. Bucco Bruce Says:

What is left on Barrett’s contract? After his injury plus his age and getting a bag he has fell off massively and it would be nice to replace him with more young talent. Tryon while having a lesser role at least has improved some as well. Rumors that David wants out after this year also makes me believe we will need either a vet or a solid rookie lb early maybe trotter if possible.

  33. Larrd Says:

I haven’t seen it mentioned yet but I noticed Zyon McCollum hitting like Jack Tatum last night, too. Hall has been showing up, as well. Lots of young talent on defense!

  34. MadMax Says:

Thanks Belle….and Yo what up Luv, its been a while man…..crazy, but yeah you had him on your radar. Now we just need all out 110% from everyone. We played a reeling iggles team, Detroit is no joke. Oh, and all good cmurda…at the end of it all, we’re here for a reason, Luv for our Bucs 🙂

Now I gotta go try and pick apart this lions/rams game….lets seriously find some weaknesses with their o line.

  35. Wild Bill Says:

Pick up one more dl line stud and the bucs have the baddest in the !!!!

  36. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

Speaking of good games…. Dean had 10 tackles. Granted some of them were catching up to receivers he was covering… but still 10 tackles… that’s a bunch

  37. lanshark Says:

Not only was Kancey quick, watch the all-22 again, and watch him treat the Philly O-lineman like he’s a ‘sled’. Drove them back onto Hurts numerous times, then dumped them with a quick move once he got in range. Amazing power to go with the speed.

  38. Jmarkbuc Says:

If Vea would drop 25lbs. He might be effective again.

  39. Drunkinybor Says:

I loved that we drafted him. I don’t follow college football. I looked at the prospects that were supposed to be in our range. He just stood out ro me. I thought he looked Like a skinny booger McFarland. Now he looks Luike himself a unique Supreme athlete. Crazy he’s just getting started!! Great great pickup so far. He can potentially be a huge factor in these playoffs as a rookie like Winfield did. Fun times again. I don’t hear sh…it from any of my co workers about My 2 huge bucs tattoos. Unfortunately I’m in 40 whiners country. I hope we meet them up and whoop that apple. I could talk so so so much smack.

  40. H-Town Darryl Says:

    Calijah “The Cat” Kancey

  41. SlyPirate Says:

    COMBINE DON’T LIE
Fastest 40 time in combine history of a DL. He and Aaron Donald.

  42. BillyBucco Says:

I felt pretty good pre game about the Bucs defense. It’s almost like they needed something real in their minds to play for.
For some reason Bowles lets them loose in the playoffs.
Dean had a great game with 10 tackles. Zyon looked elite at times.
I like him at safety with Winfield. White was pretty non existent though.
    Did Britt take his place?
Im more concerned about blitzing Goff to get pressure. I think he is better vs the blitz than Hurts.
I believe last game was closer than people remember with dropped balls by Tampa. Really gotta clean that up.
    We can win this game.
Then only 2 more. Crazier things have happened.

  43. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    cMurda

It’s great to see some of the OG’s still holding down the fort here. Hats off to Joe for kickstarting this site—solid work. But let’s not kid ourselves; it’s the great community we built in these threads that’s the real draw. That’s why the crew keeps coming back for more.

  44. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    cMurda

Honestly, a bunch of us have been laying low on this board for most of the year, sick of all the negative crap. I’ve been talking with some of the guys on the phone, and we couldn’t believe the junk being spouted—hard to think they’re real Bucs fans. So yeah, I get what you’re saying about the vibe you caught coming onto the board post-game.

  45. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    MadMax

Yo, what’s happening? It’s been ages, for real. Yeah, I had my eye on that situation from the start. Now it’s all about going full throttle, with everyone giving it their all. Sure, we rolled over a struggling Eagles squad, but we won’t sleep on Detroit; believe that!

  46. Bucs96NYC Says:

Watching the game I just kept saying they can’t block Kancey. This is arguably the best line in the league & he was dominating w/ speed x power! Kid is special, only health will stop his climb in the league.

  47. unbelievable Says:

    Preach, cmurda.

    Sup LUV and Max?

  48. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    unbelievable

Whats good Bredren? You still in SD?
    Hope all is well

  49. BucU Says:

Holy shyt! This guy is a massive disrupter! Quick as a cat!

  50. Jwbuc94 Says:

Placing three orders for jerseys this year Diaby, Kancey, Winfield Jr. will be the heart and soul of the defense after Lavonte decides to make his final choice.

  51. Bucnjim Says:

The positivity on this thread has me all fired up for Sunday already. Great posts by everyone!

  52. Bobby Says:

I’ve always said Kancey was going to be a beast. The one who really surprised me with how good he is was Ya Ya. Glad those two are best friends. They feed off of each other. This defense is dangerous right now. We are peaking at the right time. The corners just balled out last night with coverage. No one was open on that safety. Blanket coverage. Detroit will be a challenge with a balanced offense but the way we handled Phillies O-line makes me think we can do the same to Detroits. This should be a much different game than the first one. We should be playing fast and loose.

  53. unbelievable Says:

Yo LUV! Yes brother, still holding it down in San Diego.

Hope all is good with you and yours!

  54. Lord Cornelius Says:

What a homerun draft pick honestly and great draft in general

  55. orlbucfan Says:

Bowles has having a field day getting his team ESPECIALLY THE DEFENSE set for Motown. I still say LVD will either retire or play one final year as a Buc. Licht and the Glazers owe him a $$bonus$$. Go Bucs!!

  56. Lakeland Steve Says:

What a draft class. Jason Licht seems to hit on more guys every year. Kancey can be and is a game wrecker. Don’t think for a second that the Lions offensive line is not going to key in on stopping Kancey from living in the backfield like he did against the Eagles. He’s going to get a lot of double teams. Vita Vea needs to step up and make the Lions pay if they start focusing on Kancey. What a defensive weapon this kid is.

  57. EternalSon Says:

The last play by can’t see, reminds me of an amazing play by Sapp where Sapp was so fast he disrupted or stole the handoff exchange.

Kancey, we are glad you are a Buc!

  58. EternalSon Says:

    Kancey! Not can’t see, phone

  59. David Says:

WOW. That is some great stuff. Him and YAYA are going to be a force with VEA. People have already written off HALL but this is basically his rookie year because of injuries and he is proving to be a run stuffer. Future looking good. Need Shaq’s replacement because I can’t see how they afford him. He is great but not at that cost

  60. Jarrett Says:

    Joe

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again

ANOTHER GREAT DRAFT PICK SELECTION BY JASON LIT

    ITS A BUCS LIFE
