Antoine Winfield Jr. Is 1st Team All-Pro; Mike Evans Makes 2nd Team

January 12th, 2024

It’s official!

The esteemed 50-person All-Pro voting panel, the official Associated Press group for which JoeBucsFan.com columnist Ira Kaufman respresents Tampa Bay, has made Bucs safety Antoine Winfield Jr. an All-Pro. Mike Evans got enough votes to be a second-team All-Pro. Lavonte David got hosed again.

Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton and Winfield were named best safeties in the NFL. That’s it. Only two got the prestigious nod.

Tyreek Hill, CeeDee Lamb and Amon-Ra St. Brown were the first-team All-Pro receivers. Evans was joined by A.J. Brown, rookie phenom Puka Nacua and Brandon Aiyuk. The official Associated Press results show that Aiyuk and Evans tied in the voting, apparently for the final spot.

Joe is so happy for Winfield. He earned it!

  2. PanhandleBuc Says:

  3. Rick Says:

all day long. The Pro Bowl is a joke.

  4. Lt. Dan Says:

Justice done. Screw the “Name Recognition Bowl”.

  5. deuceswild78 Says:

pay tha man… wirfs and winfield will be a big part of continuing a competitive bucs culture… Go Bucs

  6. Dom Says:

Well deserved All Pro for AW Jr! Easily the best player on the team this season. Put on the superman cape and single handedly saved the season last week. The impact he makes on a week in week out basis from the safety position has been incredible to watch. The All Pro nod will do more to build on his potential HOF career more than a pro bowl ever will. Deserves a big bag this off season! Hope it’s just with the Bucs so I can keep watching him play

  7. Dewey Selmon Says:

I hope this doesn’t mean he has his worst game of the year Monday.

  8. Nick2 Says:

Thats the achievement that really matters!!! What an awesome accomoplishment-. Way to go Antoine!!!!

  9. BucsFan81 Says:

Congrats to Winfield he deserves it. He was hands down the best player on the team this year. I hope we find a way to re sign him and Wirfs along with Evans

  10. NE Fan Says:

Someone is going to pay Winfield big money. Evan’s playing well but can’t overlook his age, 30 is old fir a #1 WR.

  11. Red86 Says:

    Congrats fellas!

  12. Eric Says:

    Well deserved.

  13. Ugotrobbed Says:

Glad they received the recognition they deserved! Pro Bowl voting is a joke! As well as the game itself! I remember going to some of the Pro Bowls in old Tampa Stadium…those guys (many hall of famers) took the game seriously, played it as such. Today, it’s just a circus!

  14. Boss Says:

seeing as how the want him to win the game this week….shouldn’t he be paid like a top shelf QB?

If CD needs to be dealt to sign him and wirfs do it.

ME needs to walk. he too old and priveleged

  15. NE Fan Says:

Isn’t pro-bowl decided by the players? To me your peers acceptance is far better than the press.

  16. JD Still Says:

    Congratulations! Well played!

  17. D-Rome Says:

This is the more important media driven award. Pro bowls are meaningless because of the fans.

  18. zzbucs Says:

    ME13 second team??????? Seriously?

    Bunch of Jokers

  19. Angry Since Kickoff Says:

Bucs won’t be able to pay everyone. Already have two wildly overpriced corners.

    ………………………………………………………………………………………….
He tied, a vote going the other way he would not of even made it. Just saying that it was that close.

  21. realistic-optimistic Says:

    No Mayfield?! Snub!!!

  22. SlyPirate Says:

    NE Fan Says:
    30 is old fir a #1 WR.

    FACT CHECK
I thought so, too. The reality is 31-33 IS NOT OLD FOR GREAT WR – IT’S PRIME!

REC YARDS IN A SEASON BY AGE
    NAME – 31yo, 32yo, 33yo
    J RICE – 1503, 1499, 1848
    L FITZ – 784, 1215, 1023
    T OWENS – 1200, 763, 1180

The next three years should be Evans’ best.

  23. Colonel Angus Says:

All Pro is definitely better than pro bowl.

  24. realistic-optimistic Says:

    Congrats Winfield and Evans!

After all the stink the NFL recieved about Winfield’s pro bowl snub, there was no way they didn’t give him this one. Well deserved!

  25. DBS Says:

    Congratulations to both.

  26. Aceofaerospace Says:

PBB. Pro Bowl Blows. Well done Antoine. Well deserved!

  27. SteveK Says:

    Way to go boys!

  28. stpetebucfan Says:

The 1/3 fan vote of the Pro Bowl makes it pretty meaningless to me. The All Pro team however is the opinion of experts in the league.

Fans could and should root for their guys and line up to jam the voting. But it renders that voting suspect.

Tampa/St Pete/Clearwater is just the 17th largest metro area in the US. Cities like Miami Fort Lauderdale and Atlanta have DOUBLE the number of potential fans of Tampa.

Then you move to the top 3 like NYC/LA/Chicago and you literally have more than five times the number of potential voters in each city.

I don’t totally dismiss the Pro Bowl but it is watered down by the fan vote which makes it a popularity contest. Making All Pro means waaaaay more!!!

  29. Defense Rules Says:

    Lt Dan … ‘Justice done.’

B-I-N-G-O !!! He’s a beast. Now the Bucs need to pay the man as our top priority so we can keep him in the fold.

  30. NE Fan Says:

AlyPirate@ not sure if you couple Evan’s in with 3 of the best that ever played the game.

  31. Pewter power Says:

Ok soooo Evans made the pro bowl and is 2nd team all pro but Winfield is a 1st team all pro and only a pro bowl alternate???? NFL should be embarrassed!!

  32. William Walls Says:

There’s something seriously wrong with the Pro Bowl selection process when a guy named All-Pro gets passed over for the Pro Bowl. That’s like a write-in candidate being elected President.

  33. WillieG Says:

I really wish the NFL would scrap the current format and do something more like the All Pro selection process.

  34. unbelievable Says:

    Well deserved.

Was really hoping Mike would get a 1st team nod as well as the leader in receiving touchdowns, but sadly he wasn’t able to add to it these past 2 weeks, and Tyreek caught up to him.

  35. Rod Munch Says:

    ALL-PRO!

Congrats, that is the only award that matters – as this is a legit award, and once again proves what a clownshow the Pro-Bowl is and why people should literally completely ignore it.

David in 2013, and Winfield in 2023 are the only two times I ever remember seeing guys being 1st team ALL-PRO’s, and not making the pro-bowl.

Being an ALL-PRO is what you build a HOF resume behind.

    Get the two men paid!

  36. Lakeland Steve Says:

They need to revamp the pro bowl voting. It’s popularity contest. It shouldn’t count for anything especially incentives in contracts. It should be the All Pro voting and actual football measurables.

They need to revamp the pro bowl voting.

    ——–

People just need to know the pro bowl is completely meaningless and has been this way for 20+ years. Anything that involves fans voting is a joke, it’s nothing but marketing.

Which, btw, I have no issue with from the NFL’s side. If you can dummies to give you their name and emails to ‘vote’, then that person should be added to a list.

The pro bowl was a big deal when I was a kid, and even the games were often fun to watch, but seriously, it’s been decades since that was the case.

  38. Saskbucs Says:

NE Fan, peers would hold more weight but the players don’t know everything that’s happening. Do Falcons, Panthers and Saints players wanna vote for Bucs? If you don’t play the Bucs and see these guys, or watch their film, which you wouldn’t if you aren’t playing them, why would you vote for a guy short of looking at the stats. If they looked at the stats Winfield should have gotten in. That’s why the pro bowl is a popularity contest as they say. Fans and players just vote for their guys or the guys that are constantly in the mainstream or on top of the league teams.

  39. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

There should be 2 players on the 1st team All-Pro, Mike Evans and Winfield. They are the team above the team. EVERYONE ELSE is no better than second team. I will brook no argument.

  40. BA’s Red Pen Says:

    LFG

  41. Todd Says:

Anyone have a guesstimate on his contract extension numbers?

  42. Mike C Says:

Ne fan GO THE FUC% AWAY!

  43. FairMinded Says:

Best news all year. Well deserved AW!

  44. TruckerBuc Says:

    Well deserved!

  45. orlbucfan Says:

Major Congratulations to two players who are CLASS acts, on and off field. LVD has a SB ring, and is used to the snubs. Okay, now let’s go beat Philly, and throw them back into the Delaware River!!

  46. mark2001 Says:

Congratulations AW… This is the one that counts. The Pro Bowl is a beauty or popularity contest.

  47. stone crab sam Says:

Hard work pays off. Congrats to both Evans and Winfield. And in contract years. I wonder which one gets tagged?

  48. SueC Says:

My opinion! Mike Evans still has what it takes to be a competitive player, his age is not stopping him from performing at his best.

  49. SueC Says:

Praying the Bucs keep Antoine and Mike for the next season. Mike once said he wants to finish his career with the Bucs and I hope he gets just that. 🙏
