Thursday Injury Report A Bit Better

December 15th, 2023

Returns to practice.

The Bucs are on a two-game winning streak. And the Bucs have put this together without the services of former No. 5 overall pick Devin White at inside linebacker. So Joe isn’t sure if the following is good news or not.

White has been a shell of his 2020 self when he looked like the next Derrick Brooks, specifically in the playoffs. He has gradually regressed since. So much so the Bucs got just as good production from two reserve linebackers, J.J. Russell and K.J. Britt, as they have from White this season.

So is it good news that White fully participated in practice yesterday?

White is battling a bum foot. That’s not counting a bad groin that ailed him earlier in the season. Could White be playing better if he was healthy? Probably, but if White is so hurt he can’t shed blocks and dudes who are one step from the sidewalk are producing as well as he has, maybe he shouldn’t be on the field?

Also returning to full participation in practice yesterday was cornerback Jamel Dean (foot/ankle).

Cornerback Carlton Davis (groin), defensive tackle Will Gholston (knee/ankle), receiver Chris Godwin (knee), safety Ryan Neal (back), long-snapper Zach Triner (elbow) and defensive tackle Vita Vea (toe) each was held out of practice yesterday.

If he has any pride, and I think he does, Devin will ball out Sunday. That’s what I expect

  2. TonySoprano Says:

It’s to the point of being comical with Dean and Davis. They’re so undependable, it’s an almost guarantee they won’t be on the field together.

They’re like those co-workers everyone has, always looking for an excuse to call in sick.

  3. Pelsbuc61 Says:

Devin plays, Bucs lose. It’s like having 10 players on defense. They should have put him on IR. Dude has a bad attitude and selfish. Let Russel and Britt play. They’re hungry.

  4. BUCS SQUAT Says:

Is he trying to make ira look bad

Is Devon trying to make Ira look bad?

  5. BUCS SQUAT Says:

Sorry it’s late at night LOL.

  6. Not Says:

Well , that Ryan Neal is certainly addition by subtraction !

  7. SlyPirate Says:

Ryan Neal is back. Love’s agent rejoices.

  8. Jeffrey Becker Says:

look left, white slides over, complete pass into gaping hole he leaves open over the middle. 80 pct completion rate guaranteed. still, they can win, despite white. just need to play mediocre offense with no more than one turnover, and limit penalties. packers aren’t that great, and we’re better on the road, prolly cuz it seems like a ‘real’ nfl environment compared to our idiot box full of road fans. injured guys all over the place, will be falling out all day, looking for a four hour game. yeah i’m grumpy. it’d be better if we lost the rest of our games, we went from drafting ninth to drafting 20th just cuz we pulled up to 6 and 7. what a bananas situation. we definitely don’t wanna have to play all the division winners again next year, u see what that got us

The Three Ds of Disease: Dean, Davis and Devin.

Always hurt. Always out of position. Always excuses.

Injuries are the most frustrating thing with this team, year in and year out. People always tell me they live in Florida for the healthy environment, but I’ve been here 50+ years and all I feel is pain…especially with the constant climate changes in the summers.

It seems all of our best players need to hit their prime at the same time for us to have a healthy season.

Last year was a total nightmare. I have never seen it so bad with injuries. Third stringers were starting at various points!

  11. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

As to Devin White…I think he will get a new contract. I know it’s going to be costly, but the team is losing Lavante David to retirement. They will want White as a leader.

And he has been calling more defensive plays this year. My guess is that Licht told him Leaders get paid.

Yes, his play has suffered a bit this year. I don’t think he gets as much credit as he deserves though. He slips up 2-4 times a game, sure, but he is always in the thick of things all the other times…and even if he isn’t in on the end of the plays, he has helped bring about the plays.

Reserve linebackers J.J. Russell and K.J. Britt are being blown out of proportion. They’ve each had a good game. That hardly makes suitable replacements.

He better show a lot more for the 20 million per year he ia reported to asking.

  13. Lakeland Steve Says:

If Devin White plays hopefully it is with a huge chip on his shoulder. He can read, he knows what is being said about him. Maybe he can use all of the negativity and naysayers as fuel to show everyone they are wrong . I hope he does and plays at 90 mph with his hair on fire and returns to that kid who put the defense on his back and balled out during the Super Bowl run. Either way I believe he is gone at the end of the season.

  14. Oddball Says:

    Nooooo!

  15. VATom Says:

Doesn’t matter unfortunately. I really feel like Bowles’ scheme just gets torn up by EVERY scrub QB in the league. Only a couple dudes get thrown off by the blitzes. Shak isn’t getting home, JTS gets fooled and even if he sniffs a qb he has a hard time closing the play down. Most QBs easily put 300+ yds on the scheme. Until their up by 2 scores then they go into a protect mode and the defense LOOKS like it has sudden life in the 4th q. White has been terrible in coverage, has had a tough time on runs in the middle but is excellent running down sweeps. So teams just throw. Dean, he is good for 2 good defenses a game. And a couple blown. Davis? Same. McCollum, same but at least has seemed to be improving from last yr. I want to see the Bucs put it all together this last 4. I really do. Common sense tells me the coaching isn’t there for these guys in order to put together a string of solid game performances.

  16. Joe in Michigan Says:

I can’t see White playing, he’s terrible at football…That said, Bowles trotted Darden out there last year as the return man for most of the season, and he was one of the worst returners I’ve ever seen, at any level of football.

  17. deuceswild78 Says:

All these young players showing improvement deserve more time on the field… nothing wrong with an eye to next year, while still competing this year. Once we shed brady/jensen/davis contracts hopefully we can have more flexibility

  18. deuceswild78 Says:

    oh and barrett

  19. Beeej Says:

A lot of the times there’s a gaping hole underneath it’s not the corner’s fault–their job is too take the guy with the go route, and usually a safety is supposed to rotate over to fill that hole, apparently it’s too complicated to pull off

  20. TAMPA BAY DEMON Says:

That was some tough BUCS news yesterday, hearing that Devin White was back at practice.

  21. TomBucsFan Says:

can’t wait for him to be gone.

  22. Craig Says:

Quick, someone drop a brick on his head. The team is better without D. White.

  23. TheBay570 Says:

I hear everyone complaining about dean,Davis, white etc. what about shoyinka? Got absolutely embarrassed by ridder on a huge play that should have been at least a sack. The guy can’t even execute a play that was handed to him on a silver platter. Get him off the field already

Good one! I’m still laffin’. The SB White better show up Sunday. Period.

Devin White will not be in a Bucs uniform next season. No way. No how.

  26. Hail2dabucs Says:

Ryan Neal can stay on the injury report listed as out for all I care . As far as Dwhite45 , there is a place right next to Neal I pray he goes . Unless they strictly use him as a rush the QB linebacker . That’s it ! Other than that k j Britt should be out there .

  27. BA’s Red Pen Says:

Dean’s soft azz will be out again by the third quarter Sunday. D White is catching a lot of heat from the fans for his declining play which is totally fair but soft azz Dean got paid and has immediately and completely disappeared.

  28. unbelievable Says:

@Beej- you’re referring to our cover-3 / partial zone scheme, which translates into cover zero because we always leave someone wide open. Been happening for years with this Todd Bowles defense.

  29. TOMMY MORDUE Says:

D.WHITE POSSIBLY STARTING SCARES THE S*#T OUT OF ME AT THIS TIME IN THE SEASON..HERE’S HOPEING HE CAN FINALLY BRING HIS “A” GAME IF HE DOES PLAY..I HATE TO MESS WITH SUCCESS ( WHAT A COINCIDENCE HE’S BEEN OUT THE LAST 2 GAMES )

  30. Eckwood Says:

@ bonzai at least we know you drink before noon on Fri !! That’s Great !!!

  31. Joe in Michigan Says:

    Buccaneer Bonzai = White’s agent

  32. Buccos Says:

Dean and Davis would be great tag team wrestlers. They are never on the field at the same time

  33. teacherman777 Says:

    KJ Britt looked awesome.

Reminded me of Takeo Spikes with that neck.

Britt has transformed his body a lot since his rookie season.

He looks leaner and faster. He was much bulkier his rookie season.

    I say stick with Britt.

Replace Britt on 3rd down with another safety.

I want a dime package with only LVD on the field on 3rd down.

I want a money backer next season.

    SS/LB for 3rd downs.

    Let White walk.
