Trevor Lawrence In Concussion Protocol

December 18th, 2023

This is not Trevor Lawrence.

Will the Buccaneers be facing journeyman backup quarterback C.J. Beathard when the Jagurs come to Tampa on Sunday afternoon?

That seems likely. It was announced this morning that Jaguars overrated starter Trevor Lawrence (18 TDs, 10 INTs, 10 fumbles) suffered a concussion on Jacksonville’s final possession during their bumbling loss to the Ravens last night.

The NFL has its concussion-recovery protocols and it’s unclear whether Lawrence will meet the health marks required for him to return Sunday.

Beathard hasn’t made a start since 2020 with the 49ers. His career record as a starter is a Josh McCown-like 2-10.

The competitor in Joe wants the Bucs to beat the Jaguars with Lawrence, who has been struggling. But the realist in Joe says bring on the scrub.

Problem is, it’s the scrubs that usually torch the Bucs secondary.

  2. orlbucfan Says:

No kidding, that’s VV. I’n glad the NFL are finally treating concussions like the potentially serious injuries they are!

  3. Beeej Says:

SO. We beat the Vikings and Packers, who WOULD have had winning records but for us…. but they don’t count. Now we play the Jags who prolly won’t have their Ken doll QB, so THAT victory won’t count EITHER

  4. Cobraboy Says:

    Another 300 yd. scrub?

Buc’s graveyard is sprinkled with these scrubs.

  5. Statistically Insignificant Reader Says:

Jags will not be a pushover even if Fabio doesn’t play. Bucs have a tendency to make backups look “all world”. Stay focused Bucs.

  6. PSL Bob Says:

Agreed. Rookie and backup QBs always gouge us. I’d rather face Lawrence, even if he is totally healthy. Let’s win out and go into the playoffs hitting on all cylinders.

  7. BillyBucco Says:

I think the typical BAITING of QBs doesn’t happen enough when we play these scrubs.
Blitzing CAN help, but almost every NFL QB knows how to identify it and check it down.
Couple that with horrible DW tackling and soft zones and it adds up to NOT making these backups PAY enough for non experience.
If we play Beathard, it should be a coming out party for Tampa’s defense.
    NO EXCUSES.

  8. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

    Say it ain’t so, Joe.
Scrubs own that flaunted Tampa Bay 2 lawn chair secondary.
    What are we gonna do?
And such an important game too!
    Damit mang.

  9. Allbuccedup Says:

Jags are playing bad right now without they are done.

  10. HC Grover Says:

Sounds good. We have to whip Jax. 10-7 would be just right.

  11. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

Well at least the Bucs have a 22td-8ints QB when this becomes the scoring fest at rayjay! I hope mayfield has 5 tuddies in him. We’ll need em all!

  12. Allbuccedup Says:

Win by the Bucs and Colts win will eliminate the Falcons and set up the conference championship match between the Bucs and Saints the following week. If the saints lose against the Rams we clinch the division against the aints.

  13. gofortheface30 Says:

OKAYYYYYY OrlBucfan – perfect example of selective things to be outraged over. Please tell yourself about the seriousness of concussions the next time you watch someone get knocked the F out at a UFC or Boxing event. Players are more concerned about getting chopped at the knees. The conussion protocols are in place because lawyers got involved and so the NFL doesn’t get sued to high heaven.

  14. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

Tampa bay’s 2 lawn chair secondary is like the gift that keeps on giving when facing seldom used QB’s. I do not know why seldom used QB’s shell that unit…
Perhaps it’s due to lack of preparation idk.

  15. Bucco Bruce14 Says:

Question is, who will be our QB next season, has Baker proved it enought to warrent a contract extention, and focus the draft on building the oline?

  16. D Cone Says:

Timing is everything. Catch the right teams like the Jags at the right time and you can be 7-7 or a little better.
Rookie mistakes took ATL out of the running it appears. Ridder is 8-9 in a First full year of 17 games with most of their rookie mistakes but can play. Even a Heisman Winner and 1st Round Pick can throw 35 INT’s in his first couple seasons. Falcons will be a real good team in 2024.
Carr is warming up. Don’t know if his team will warm up to him though. Winning might change that. Saints are a Good team now. If they beat the Rams they will win the Division.

Bucs will get tested in the next two weeks and might end up in a dog fight the last week against the pitiful panthers for a playoff spot.

  17. Beeej Says:

    Fabio, LOL

  18. DoooshLaRue Says:

Brady is gone and so is the hideous term “tuddies”

  19. Dew Says:

This week we play Jacksonville, the Saints play the Rams (both are going into this game 7 – 7), & Minnesota also 7 – 7 is playing Detroit. Hopefully we win & the Saints & Minnesota lose.

  20. SlyPirate Says:

    QB2? Automatic loss against Bowles.

  21. Pewter power Says:

C.J. Beathard Oh no lol every time Bowles faces a back up….

  22. Ultra Says:

This is probably a different thread but winning the division does not involve beating Jacksonville. All Tampa has to do is beat NO and Carolina. The reason is that would put them into a tie with NO (if NO wins their other 2 games) and Tampa gets the tiebreaker beating NO 2 times. As far as Atalanta goes, if Atlanta wins their 3 games, then they also would tie Tampa, but Tampa would have a better division record with just 1 loss. Beating Jax helps if they lose another game for a wildcard seeding but doesn’t matter for the division title.

  23. Victor Mioduszewski Says:

Injuries were always part of a NFL
season. So what if the Bucs get a break,
so does every team. Now it’s up to the players
and coaches to take advange. Don’t let the fans
    down..GoBucs..

  24. Mike Johnson Says:

I’d rather see Trevor play against us. Although he is a good passer, he has a tendency to fumble to ball when hit hard. And It seems like every time we face a backup, they light us up really bad.

  25. First Name Greatest Says:

Todd Blows defense made Ridder look like a competent QB, then he plays a defense with a competent coordinator and he looks like he should. Until Bowles is gone the defense will always get shredded

  26. orlbucfan Says:

Hey, gofortheface, go look up basic anatomy. Head to head slams are very bad news cos they affect the BRAIN, you moron. Sure dirty knee, shoulder and back injuries are real bad news, but they don’t affect the gray organ that does the thinking. Sheesh!

  27. Jeff Says:

This is not good. Clueless Todd will fail to adjust and will let this no name QB complete short passes all day long. Jax 24 Bucs 17
