Jamel Dean, Devin White Out For Atlanta Game

December 8th, 2023

Out.

Lavonte David is back. But not so with Devin White.

The former No. 5 overall pick and hero of the 2020 Super Bowl victory run has been having his worst NFL season in a contract year. Bad timing. And that ugly season will continue Sunday as Bucs coach Todd Bowles said White will miss the all-important Atlanta game

It’s basically do or die for the Bucs if they want to make the playoffs. A win and the Bucs are in first place. A loss, the Bucs will be two games behind the Dixie Chicks with four games to play — and Atlanta will own the head-to-head tiebreaker that would effectively makes their lead a three-game cushion.

White will not be the only Bucs defensive starter out. Cornerback Jamel Dean will join him.

Vita Vea, who has been on the injury report this week with a bum toe, is a game-time decision, Bowles told Scott Smith of Buccaneers.com.

    Who cares?

Dean out is a blessing. Probably saves the bucs 14 points. Now as far as Davis, There goes 14. Yup, 2 tuddies. As for white, cant the bucs replace with JTS? Why not, what do they have to lose? JTS has the size, speed, and probably no worse in coverage… Just sayin

  3. SB~LV Says:

It’s a long way to the start of next training camp

  4. Marine Buc Says:

The Bucs were lucky in game #1 – Bijan Robinson was out with an illness…

I am more concerned with Vita Vea’s injury and Bijan Robinson being healthy for game #2 than I am about these two jokers being out.

I liked how JJ Russell played last week. We don’t need White anymore especially if LVD is playing.

  5. NJbucs23 Says:

Let JJ play. Devin can sit for the rest of the season, Dean as well

  6. Joe in Michigan Says:

Talk about a stroke of luck, the 2 guys who couldn’t care less about football won’t be playing football! The tape backs this statement up, and Todd Bowles needs to be fired for not benching these liabilities.

  7. Curse of Gruden Says:

    Addition by subtraction.

  8. Vlad The Impaler Says:

Imagine, if you will, a world where football is not played to will but rather to not lose?….and coaches value ball protection over scoring? his my friend is what we see…..in the twilight zone

That means Bucs defense will be more efficient this Sunday…… hahahahahahaha

  13. realistic-optimistic Says:

Is Bowles quietly benching Devin White? Curious to see how this plays out.

  14. Onetrickpony Says:

No worries,TB is a defence guru,I am told

  15. adam from ny Says:

this is not how you score points with your team…

but more so, it’s not how you score points with other teams who are quietly evaluating you – to potentially sign you

  16. WiseCrack Says:

Who was the QB that juked White so hard that it broke his ego, I mean ankle? I forgot who that QB was. I feel like it was a nobody QB but I could be wrong.

  17. Alexandre Nascimento Says:

I got a feeling White will not play for us anymore

  18. TomBucsFan Says:

White should be benched the rest of the season.

    Marine Buc

I share your concerns for our defense. The Bucs are at least 10th in run defense but they have yet to deal with Robinson.

The Bucs suck out loud on pass D!!! They are 28th in the league!!! Fortunately or perhaps luckily the Bucs have held opponents out of the end zone…10th in TD’s given up.

Luckily Ridder is pretty much in the middle of a rookie season. He only played 4 games last year and went 2-2 and with his 6-4 record this season he is 8-6. Not bad for a QB who supposedly sucks! His weakness has been turnovers…8TD’s 8 ints.

But my real concern is the Falcon D. They’re ranked 10th in the league overall and they helped produce a couple of impressive wins.

All the whining about Baker, Canales, and Bowles is irrelevant come game time.
The Bucs will be playing a hungry team in their own Mercedes and realistically the Falcons may be a better team.

HOW are the Bucs going to manufacture some offense against a top ten D?
    That’s my major concern.

  21. Brandonbucc Says:

Bye bye white. You ain’t getting paid like you think.

  22. zzbuc Says:

Atlanta is mainly a running team, Just check how many passes Desmond Ridder sends to CDIII’s side, you will be surprised…….
CDIII has been the weakest side for years………

  23. Capt.Tim Says:

    Playoffs?
This team cant Run. Cant pass rush.
Same as last year, and the great QB in NFL history, Tom Brady, could not win with this team

Our FO and Coaches saw this, and fixed NOTHING.

Why would anyone expect this team to win this year

Until we can run the ball, and rush the passer. This team will be a LOSER.
Not much more to figure out.

  24. TonySoprano Says:

You couldn’t find 2 more low-character guys than Dean and White. Absolutely no heart, no loyalty to the team that pays them so handsomely.

It feels like Dean just looks for excuses to sit out.

  25. Pewter power Says:

Vita Vea does not play they will take another L

  26. HC Grover Says:

    Yawn

  27. MegaFailure Says:

ol brittle bones dean out again i see

  28. Pelsbuc61 Says:

Addition by subtraction. Don’t care to see either one of them ever again in a Bucs jersey. Vita is also a borderline wasted pick when you consider he’s injury prone and only plays 50% of the snaps when healthy and Bucs could have had QB Josh Allen with his pick. Another indictment on Licht.

  29. Chris K Says:

Go find the date D.White injured his foot and we will all see that was when he became a subpar LB. He tried playing through it to his credit, but he was obviously struggling. Even though last year he had disappointing games he was still pretty good for the most part. This year he’s been a shell of himself. In my opinion it was the foot injury from earlier this season that started his tailspin. I believe if he was 100% it would be a different player out there.

  30. dmatt Says:

I’d like to see Mayfield not get us to the Falcons 12-15 yd line, then start doing the cha cha in the pocket.I saw too many games where defenses played deep leaving nothing but space between him n the goal line, but he does the “freak out” for lost yards n a sack. Bad Baker, Bad Canales, n Bad Santa. As for Dean n DWhite, I’m done with both. What have they done for us lately? 2 ankle breaks n both are examples of “These are often ur breaks”, n u don’t have to clock out. Dean is fast n tall, plays like a rookie. Poof, be gone. Com on JJ n SirVoncea, it’s eating time.

  31. Kgh4life Says:

For a while DW has been a liability when he’s on the field: missed tackles, getting lost in coverage and out running plays. Dean on the other might be missed, McCollum has been up and down.

  32. TonySoprano Says:

His foot might be falling off, that doesn’t explain his absolutely pathetic attempt at shedding blocks. He doesn’t even try to fight off blocks with his hands/arms. Soon as someone lays a hand on him, he completely mails it in. The foot injury is no excuse for his abysmal effort.

  33. Obvious Says:

Well it’s Hard to deny that the defense has been “lack luster”. Can’t say over all with Winfield and David out there but even With these Pro Bowl players we still stink for the most part.

Players Are Not buying what Bowles is selling on defense. That is clear.

And offense…… Blame is all over the place. The evidence is lit in Neon Lights. Is it All on Baker Mayfield? Hell No. But he’s just about average. He doesn’t have the “it factor” but he does have what most Don’t and that’s HEART! I DO NOT BLAME HIM FOR THE “OVERALL” problems with this offense and it would be pure B.S. to try to pin it on him.

What we Do Not have is enough talent to get over the deficiencies of an in experienced OC and a Defensive Head Coach THAT WON’T LEAVE THE OFFENSE ALONE!!! We Just Don’t Have the Talent to Get Past the Bowles Out Dated as well as ANTIQUE football philosophy.

We can’t win enough with so much pushing against us. I mean these guys are only human after all…

  34. Scott Says:

JJ Russell is playing good ball. I want to see more of him.

  35. Fred Says:

If Jamel Dean has any value at all, he needs to be traded. He just doesn’t contribute enough to be on the payroll. I’ve never been a fan and I’ve been proven right.

  36. Joshua porter Says:

Ii have yet to Meet a bucs fan that wants clown white to play….

  37. Christopher Schiefen Says:

The paper tiger strikes again. Too bad, I want him out there as he contributes to loses and we need to lose to get this regime out of here.

  38. Capt.Tim Says:

    0-0=0
    Nuff said

  39. Architek Says:

White gone next year and Dean the following year!

    Good riddance!!!
