Baker Mayfield “Not Sustainable”

December 15th, 2023

Critique from NFL source.

Baker Mayfield is not “sustainable.” That’s what one coach/suit has to say about the Bucs’ starting quarterback.

Have the Bucs and offensive coordinator Dave Canales squeezed every drop out of Mayfield that they can? That seems to be what an unnamed source believes about Mayfield.

Before the season, Mike Sando of The Athletic, who often types stories based largely on intel from unnamed NFL sources, put together a Tier List of NFL quarterbacks. Mayfield began the year in Tier 4, ranked No. 26 overall.

This past week, Sando reached out to many of his same sources for his Quarterback Tiers story for feedback on how the quarterbacks are doing. One Sando sources stated Mayfield is a Sam Howell clone and cannot be trusted as the long-term Bucs quarterback.

“Howell is similar to Baker for me,” one voter said. “Hard to bring down, tough, live arm, can sling it, but ultimately he is a little bit of an upgrade over Taylor Heinicke and is similar to Baker.

“Keeps plays alive, keeps his eyes downfield, takes big hits, can get up, gives his guys a chance, guys kind of rally around him, has some really good arm talent, but is not sustainable.”

If Joe didn’t know any better, that seems to be a description of a runaround quarterback with a suspect arm.

Mayfield has been slipping since he almost pulled out a win at Houston when he threw for a 70 percent completion percentage. The last two games Mayfield has thrown for less than 50 percent completion percentage.

This has the Trask Occult marching in circles around a fire in the dark of the night, chanting strange, ghoulish rhymes.

The problem for the Trask Occult? Both of Mayfield’s last two lousy games have also been Bucs wins, one of which saw Mayfield march the Bucs down the field late for the game-winning score.

Just win and he can sustain deez nutz

  2. Beeej Says:

Heinicke has a noodle arm, but is a similar player. Better than fair chance Baker has something wrong with his shoulder again. Bowles is big on having hurt starters play anyway

  3. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

Mayfield is the second coming of drew brees, and why not?
    They’re both from Austin!
Hopefully the Bucs have the wherewithal to sign him long time….

  4. The Truth be Told Says:

The Bucs are lucky to have Baker. End of story.

  5. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

@the truth; that comment of yours is the understatement of the year!

  6. Lt. Dan Says:

Bakers a nice piece but he seems to have maxed out in this offense. Here’s to hopping the Bucs draft high enough to get a franchise QB that is plug and play for the next 10 years. The pending QB free agent market is pretty lack luster.

  7. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

If I were licht, I’d already stacked up an offer sheet for mayfield, with all kinds of perks.

  8. Beeej Says:

I’d STILL like someone to point to which free agent QB (regardless of price) we should have signed last spring. I’m not seeing one who’s doing much better

  9. LongSeason Says:

Mayfield is not sustainable. In this day of NFL 50% ain’t gonna cut it.
Or is it the play calling and the routes run?
Put Trask in and see if we have same result. If so, then it’s the latter.

  10. realistic-optimistic Says:

    the Trask Occult

Tell us which Joe wrote this without telling us which Joe wrote this. smh

Yeah, there are some UF fans who simply want their guy to play. But, that’s not an accurate depiction of what many Bucs fans are saying. Baker is what he is; a bridge QB with very little upside. I think the run-heavy gameplans are intentionally used to limit Baker’s bad play. Plus, what team doesn’t put their 2nd round pick on the field? That’s silliness. If you draft a guy, you play him.

Also, who really trusts Bowles’ personel decisions after his reliance on DWhite, Neal, Feiler, JTS? You can’t bash those decisions then turn around and say the coaching staff knows that Trask sucks. I prefer to evaluate players in live games. My evaluation of the guy currently getting QB snaps is not good.

Have the Bucs and offensive coordinator Dave Canales squeezed every drop out of Mayfield that they can

IMO, yes. This is the best you get with him. He’s doing as well as he ever has at the NFL level, and this is the result (yes, I’m aware of his 2020 season — this year is better).

  11. Jack Clark Says:

Baker has decent pass blocking and the best group of pass catchers in the league: Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Rachaad White, and Cade Otton. And Baker Mayfield still can’t pass for over 300 yards and 3 touchdowns a game because he is AVERAGE AT BEST. Let’s see what Kyle Trask can do

  12. PSL Bob Says:

Look Joe. You’re the first to admit that the Bucs are stubborn as hell about the run game. You don’t think Trask can hand the ball off as well as Mayfield? Then on the throwing plays, Mayfields accuracy is highly suspect. I think Trask might be able to get the ball to his receivers better than Mayfield can. So that leaves reading the defense and directing protections as the decisive factor, and I think Mayfield has the clear advantage there. Those skills are only acquired through in-game experience and Trask has little to none of that. But we’re never going to know what we’ve got in Trask unless we put him in. Let’s hope this isn’t one of those situations where he goes to another team and becomes the next Brock Purdy.

  13. TomBucsFan Says:

Baker moving and rolling out of the pocket is good, baker standing in the pocket is very bad.

  14. Craig Says:

I would like to know what Trask can do. There is no cult ot occult to it, it is about the future of the franchise.

Baker is going to want a big contract. He had one once and lost it. The team he was on actually went after a really damaged QB who could not start for a year as an excuse to be rid of him.

Will that be the Bucs fate too if they give him a big contract and he gets lazy.

I see QBs all over the league who were unknown backups until given a chance. Now it looks like they will be starters from now on. Do the Bucs have one of those? No one knows.

  15. UKBuccaneer Says:

Then notion that Trask has been evaluated for 3 years and will suddenly get into a game and turn into Peyton Manning, or even Eli Manning, is faintly ridiculous.

  16. realistic-optimistic Says:

The notion that Baker is succeeding at his job is “faintly ridiculous.”

  17. Rick Says:

I don’t see us beating Green Bay or Jacksonville. That will put a lid on the season.

  18. Larrd Says:

So he went to the guy who was wrong about Baker before the season, and the guy says he wasn’t wrong, that all the evidence we’ve seen since is an illusion that cannot last.

The unidentified source seems like one of those irrational Baker haters, to be honest. Probably all still wearing Covid masks. So weird.

  19. Couch Fan Says:

The only cult is the ones who are thrilled to death over a career loser 37-45, thats playing very very average also leading a bad offense and a bad division and want to criticize anyone that wants to see what another QB can do while in the midst of a losing season. Oh and they also label anyone who disagrees with them as a “cult”. LMAO. Nice try Joes

Btw the only thing ridiculous are the spins you Mayfield cheerleaders need to put on it in order justify not wanting another QB. Nobody said Trask will be Manning. We simply want to do the right thing for the franchise and see what Trask has before its to late. Waiting until we are out of the playoffs is akin to wasting the season, when we could possibly, POSSIBLY key word, have something better on the sidelines. You cant say we dont because you DONT know for sure. None of us do. The only thing we do know for sure is that Mayfield isnt taking us anywhere, though we might luck ourselves into a 1 and done playoff trip. Yay!?!

  20. Bobby M. Says:

No QB will have any real success in a Todd Bowles offense. It’s not remotely designed for offensive aggressiveness. Why bother drafting a young QB with this staff?…We drafted Trask only to see him stand on the sidelines for 3 yrs. Who has Bowles shown any ability in developing? He had the GOAT who looked miserable under Bowles. Mayfield looks serviceable but is nearing his ceiling in production.

  21. sdm5821 Says:

Insert quarterback of choice. Mahomes, Purdy, Carr, Trask Jackson, Stroud, Allen, Hurts, whomever. The Bucs are 6-7, have 4 games to go and are in 1st place in the division. To make it simple, we’ll eliminate anything like, how the defense has/is playing, all stats are the same for the players and the Bucs as a team, no need to consider, completions, yards, drops, missed tackles and assignments, cap space, the playoffs, one and done, who may move on, or who may coach in 2024. We’re talking right now. Again, right now, December 15, 2023.

Are you clamoring for a quarterback change?

  22. BucU Says:

This team has so many issues EVERYWHERE it really doesn’t matter if you start BM or Trask at this point. I have no prob at all with benching BM for Trask if this team lays an egg in Green Bay which is more than likely.

  23. P marcello Says:

You guys are so dumb you can’t see what ia happening right in front of your eyes.
Baker has been great for this team. He is the only thing that has gioven this short handed undisiplined team a chance.
Yeah his stats have been a little subpar the last to weeks but it is his slick clutch play that made the victory s.Look at the facts. Baker has been doing exactly what he has been told. He is playing small ball. The weak run game has stymied the first half of every gamer. Baker ha been forced into 3rd and long all the time. But still he moves the chain sometimes spectacularly. He gets rid of the ball in 2.3 econds and still has barely enough time and often ha to scramble. He has well served the coaches fear of INTs with only 8.
He still has thrown some beautiful touichdowns, They have dropped about 4 of those td plus many other balls.
You say he is inaccurate but I say BS. It is clear he has not been allowed to go for the long shots. It is clear the bucs have not been practicing thoe type of play. Bakers strength has always been his long balls. But the coaches don/t want it that way.
I;ll tell you why. The Coaches even pssoibly Licht and the Glazers don’t want Baker to shine too much. Because if they do other teams will see it and OUTBID the bucs come spring. Baker has more than showed hi talent and abilities. All you fools who believe the fake news labels about his lack of talent and only being a mediocre bridge QB are blind as well a biased. Baker ha been subject to the most unfair and highly critical microscope that he jut doesn’t deserve here that it is shamefull.
You can see the Baker know this and is dealing with it. If you want to see rainbow TD passes you have to practise them and execute them. I think the Buc are planning that for next year after Baker has been resigned. If not he will be doing it for another team. He doesn’t want to. He wants to settle here and build something great if he i allowed to/ Get him some reinforcements and see what happens.NO RISK NO REWARD.

  24. ShakeandBaker Says:

UKBuccaneer 100%!!! These Trask N#t huggers act like the coaches don’t see him everyday in practice. Three years in and they’re not letting him on the field tells you what their evaluation of him is. He may make a good backup long term. Fwiw I saw one mock draft that had the Bucs trading their 20th pick to Chicago for Justin Fields. I would love to see that happen.

  25. Couch Fan Says:

If all those guys played the same way Baker does, bad for 3 Qrts before they finally decide to show up? Then yes. I would feel the same way. Do you not watch the games? Have you been impress through Quarters 1 and 3? I havent. I honesntly dont know how anyone could be. Yes a case could be made that the play calling is terrible and you’d have a point. But better play calls isnt going to fix his inability to complete passes to wide open receivers. For some reason some dont want to admit Mayfield has some big time issues that have nothing to do with anybody else.

  26. Becky Says:

OMG you draft a QB dummies just never get it. What the hell good is a new quarterback when your quarterback isn’t what wrong with your team? Fix what is broken. Your offensive line, your secondary, you running game, are what needs addressed, not the quarterback situation. Baker is why we are still in it. Fix what is broken and he will win. It is just damn sad that MEN don’t understand this.

  27. Razor Ramone Says:

This offensive offense made Tom Brady look like dog sh!t. I also think Mayfield is hurt, does Trask deserve a shot? I dunno, I’m not at practice. One thing is for sure , Bowels hears the wolves at the door and Baker is HIS guy, for better or worse, sink or swim. That’s the reality. I think Todd is an awful HC but barring injury or a demand from the TeeTots it’s gonna be Baker.

  28. Couch Fan Says:

A bad QB is why we are still in it and not the fact we are in a terrible division where 6-7, a losing record, is the best? LMAO. Unbelieveable.

  29. UKBuccaneer Says:

    realistic-optimistic Says:
The notion that Baker is succeeding at his job is “faintly ridiculous.”

    —————/

He’s having one of his best seasons in his career, at present. Is he tearing up trees? No. But he’s doing ok. Had some great flashes and some terrible moments. Kinda what you expect from BM.

I don’t believe replacing him solves a thing.

  30. D-Rome Says:

C’mon folks, switching to Trask now when the Bucs are fighting for the division is dumb. You only switch if the division is lost. This entire, “We gotta see what we have in Trask” take is very immature. The Bucs already know even if we don’t.

  31. realistic-optimistic Says:

He’s having one of his best seasons in his career, at present.

    I already said that.

The difference is, you think it’s good.

  32. Cobraboy Says:

So Mayfield is Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson with legs.

The Bucs could do much worse.

Keep the guy and bring in some serious Big Uglies on the OL and he could flourish.

Except for Canales. The Bucs can do better than the current coaches.

  33. stone crab sam Says:

@Becky, amen sister. This guy ‘gets it’.

  34. sdm5821 Says:

The point is The Bucs are still in 1st place in the NFC South and have a very good chance of making the playoffs. Since I’m not, nor you or anyone else at One Bucs Palace 24/7 we don’t know on what they are basing their decisions and have to accept the product on the field. If you lived through the ‘Lost Decade’ or have been a fan of another franchise that is dysfunctional and seemly finds new ways every year to raise the bar of ineptitude, then being in contention every year is a good thing regardless of the players, coaches, GM, owner.

  35. Couch Fan Says:

The Bucs could do much worse. Well there you go Traskies. The Bucs could do much worse so we shouldnt even try to do better. You think the same way ReTodd coaches, Scared. Very scared. Thats a terrible way to live. I say we can do better and should be actively looking for better until we find it. If we fail in the process, so be it. Then we continue to look. Settling though for mediocrity should never ever be accepted.

  36. Show Me the TDs Says:

All of you idiotic Baker nutt-huggers make me want to puke. Hey, here’s a novel idea. Let’s strive for greatness, not mediocrity. Baker is average, at best. We “might” win the worst division in the NFL and then get blown out in the 1st round. Yay… Gimme a break.

  37. BA’s Red Pen Says:

If Trask was the season starter we’d have about the same record as the Panthers.

  38. Since76 Says:

This team wins when the defense plays well. They lose when the defense struggles. Mayfield isn’t good enough to win games. If the defense didn’t gift wrap those 9 points in the first half it would have been over. Three years from a SB win and buc fans except below average play at the QB position. How far we have fallen so quickly. Why not sell the team back to the culverhouse family.

  39. DBS Says:

If Trask was in and only passed for 2 TD’S in a A game people wouldn’t be saying a word about it . They would be pointing the finger at the RB because they were inside the 5 yard line and couldn’t run it in. But the RB was as soon as he go the ball or the Oline did not open a hole. Only the Traskies expect Baker to score all the points.

  40. DBS Says:

    hit

  41. A Bucs Fan Says:

The Bowles, Canales, and Baker experiment is outdated by 20 years. It’s not 2000-2003 anymore. Offenses that score points win championships. Defenses have been ranked considerably lower in the last 8 years than offenses that have won the Super Bowl. The current philosophy will have the Bucs become a middling team with slim to no hopes of a return to the championship game. They have to find a coach that can and is willing to try to score as many points as possible by getting his best players the football.

Sounds a lot like what BA did on the offense before Bowles took over.

  42. Tony Marks Says:

    realistic-optimistic Says:
I think the run-heavy gameplans are intentionally used to limit Baker’s bad play.
    ——

Stupid traskies post stupid traskie things so no surprise there. Bowles and canales always wanted a run game before Baker was signed and he was signed for those who don’t have Alzheimer’s to be a management QB

    Translation? run blanced.

  43. Dan the Bucs fan Says:

Bucs are moving in the right direction lots of good young players and cap space on the way. A few decades ago we drafted two offensive lineman in first two rounds and our oline was great for 10 years. True blood and Davin Joseph. I’d resign Baker for team friendly deal and draft two big tough oline man and we would be on our way.

We have a young pass rusher now we have found White replacement already at Linebacker and we can cut Godwin no guaranteed money. Resign Evans and Winefield build that oline into best and we are contenders.

We should have about 28 million to spend in free agency as well if we need to fill a hole nobody is drafting better then Litch future is bright

  44. Couch Fan Says:

Sounds like a lot of projection from angry cheerleaders assuming things about others that coincidentally they have been doiing themselves. LMAO I love it.

  45. realistic-optimistic Says:

When you have to resort to words like “traskie” or “bakette” it does sound a little like a cult. You can evaluate the team and argue with other fans without going there. Kinda weak.

  46. BA’s Red Pen Says:

I know it’s a hard concept for the Occult of Trask to understand but two things can be true, Baker is an average to below average quarterback and Trask is not and never will be a starter in the NFL. Y’all can wallow in your weird fantasies about Trask all you want, continue to make yourself look stupid with your comments calling for him to play but the Bucs are drafting their next quarterback after this year and resigning Baker for a couple of years to be the bridge to until the new guy is ready to start.
Look on the bright side, y’all can route for whatever XFL team Trask ends up being the backup on real soon.

  47. TF Says:

There is a reason why Baker hasn’t stuck ANYWHERE. He had multiple organizations evaluate him and determine that he isn’t starting QB material. I think he is in limbo like Gardner Minshew and similar QBS, Not NFL starting QB material but a smidge more talented than the average backup. There in lies the dilemma with rostering him.

  48. Couch Fan Says:

I know it’s a hard concept for the Occult of Trask to understand but two things can be true, Baker is an average to below average quarterback and Trask is not and never will be a starter in the NFL

  49. Drew Says:

You know what else we know about Baker, that he broke the rookie passing touchdown record should’ve won rookie of the year took a 1 an 32 terrible Cleveland Browns franchise and made them good, now they’re relevant every year! Won a playoff game in Pittsburgh while throwing for 300 yards and 3 touchdowns!! The following week had Kansas City on the ropes, and probably wins if his receiver don’t fumble at the pylon!! Now has the Bucs in first place in position to go to the playoffs while having a fairly solid year!! What we do know is he won the competition over Trask this summer, he lead a game winning drive in Houston, that the D blew away! All that said l two weeks before Christmas, we are in a playoff race!! that’s what we do know!!

  50. realistic-optimistic Says:

Close your eyes, stpetebuc, I have to do it.

  62. Oneilbuc Says:

Lol 🤣🤣 all you Baker Mayfield fans are hilarious 😂😂😂😂!! I’ve never seen so many people that love med so much!! The truth of the matter is you ain’t winning nothing with Baker Mayfield as your quarterback. That don’t have nothing to with Trask or any quarterback in this year draft. If the bucs bring Baker Mayfield back next year I can promise you we ain’t going to the playoffs with him at quarterback . You guys are celebrating a quarterback who does nothing most of the game and the defense kept giving him back the ball because the Falcons quarterback suck . And I will say it again this quarterback y’all love so much is on his 4th team in 6 years. And now some of you are comparing him to a hall of fame quarterback Drew Brees ?? Now that’s just crazy 🤣🤣!! This is the only fan base that love meadicorey at best against bad teams but sucks against good teams!! And then you talking about a quarterback that’s been in the NFL for 6 years and still plays like a rookie quarterback and this is the guy that supposed to be the next Drew Brees? Come man!! Lol 🤣🤣

  63. A Bucs Fan Says:

@Tony Marks I don’t know how watching Baker play is less stressful. Maybe when the ball isn’t in his hands since he’s 17-30 as a starter when he throws the ball more than 30 times.

It’s a pretty damning stat since the average pass attempts per game for a QB has been over 30 since 2004.

That leaves him with a 22-16 when he throws less than 30 passes a game. That means the less the ball is in his hands the more likely his team will carry him to a win.

Just compare it to an actual franchise QB like Mahomes who is 54-19 in the same situation. Tua, Allen, and Purdy all have better winning percentages (less games though at this point). The closest one to Baker is the washed Derek Carr in New Orleans 50-64. Perhaps that’s why the Bucs are “cutting wood” in the run game. They know their QB is limited and the more snaps Mayfield throws the ball the less likely they will win the game.

That’s why he’s a perfect fit in a run first offense. You can’t rely on him consistently to win. In fact if the game is put on his shoulders to throw he’s twice as likely to lose than win.

This is why he’s mediocre and I can’t wait for a new QB to be behind center next year.

That because you haven’t seen Trasks 10 attempts

  65. Craig Says:

Find me a coach who would bench Tom Brady for a rookie. Even after that last season, where he showed that even he can go over the hill, there are people trying to get him to return to the NFL.

Trask got shorted because Brady kept coming back. Arians expected one year out of Brady, but got three. That sat Trask, not his possible talent.

Gabbert did not win the backup job. He was gifted it because he was brought along by Arians.

Hot Toddie did not draft Trask, so he is not going to stand behind him. Anyway his kind of QB to draft is Sam Darnold.

That shows how well Hot Toddie can evaluate a QB. He was damaged by Darnold so only wanted an experienced QB. That was Baker.

Baker has consistently gone 3 and out for most of every game. That preys on the team, especially the defense. It is as bad as the Jameis years and all of those first down interceptions.

I am not sure Trask is the answer, but there is only one way to know, and even I do not want it to happen because of an injury.

  66. A Bucs Fan Says:

@ Tony Marks – I don’t care if Trask is bad. I only want to see if he was worth the investment of a second round pick. If he’s not draft someone else.

The frustration is we know what Baker is already. A slightly below average starting QB. Doesn’t mean he’s not a nice or like-able person. Just not a winning NFL QB.

    Time to move on.

  67. SteveK Says:

lol, Joe, love the Trask Occult saying.

Stop with your stupid stat of the day contest entries. Sensible people are not impressed. Baker was drafted to a team that LOST 17 STRAGHT

A bunch of you have this totally dumb idea in your head that a QB is supposed to turn around any team and its not a team sport. SO there were a lot of losses on a team that went winless the year before he got there. So what?

You geniuses actually think lts on Bryce Young alone that the Panthers ( another team Baker was on) suck as badly as they do? Some of you are too silly to hace intillegent NFL conversations with.

  69. Becky Says:

For all of you that think Baker is so bad you should understand that he has never played for an NFL team that built a team to his strengths like pretty much every other QB in the league. Baker gave everything he could to Cleveland on and off the field and Jimmy Haslen and company used him, played him hurt, then stuck a knife in his back in favor of a man of zero character, who paid them back by doing what he does, finding ways to sit on the bench, while collecting his money and looking for more women to assault. Now Jimmy Haslem is getting exactly what he deserves, the most expensive predator on earth, who is sitting on the bench collecting his money, and Jimmy Haslem is under federal criminal investigation because he is a criminal. Baker rose above all of that to put his body on the line for ungrateful Bucs, “fans”who are too damn dumb to see what they have. Baker wins over locker rooms for a reason. Wise up, appreciate what you have, where you are, and where you could be going. It could be alot worse.

  70. Cobraboy Says:

Casuals always think the QB grass is greener with someone else.

  71. Couch Fan Says:

  72. SteveK Says:

Panthers would be competent with Andy Dalton behind center.

    @tony marks,

Bryce young is an unequivocal bust. He stinks. Too short, plays scared, moves his eyes down when sensing pressure thst isn’t there, and has absolutely zero physical traits. We should all be so thankful that Tepper overruled Reich and picked Bust Bryce Young over future all pro CJ Stroud.

Lmao, Tim Tebow is better than Bruce young.

Baker is barely average and he’s leaps and bounds better than Young.

The panthers would be in the hunt for Turd Mountain 💩 (nfc s crown) of the best QB on the roster actually played.

This is a lot to say that Trask at least is unknown, and o bet he gets less balls batted down. I want to see if we can have above average QB play. What can I say, middle aged Tom Brady left me wanting more from the QB position- to the point of wanting to see what Trask has, and draft a kid.

    Simple as that. -Lovie

  73. SteveK Says:

@ Tony Marks – I don’t care if Trask is bad. I only want to see if he was worth the investment of a second round pick. If he’s not draft someone else.

The frustration is we know what Baker is already.
    —–

YOu don’t know squat and you just proved it. Including losses a rookie had on a team that went 0 -17 before him just shows what an NFL newb you are.

Here’s the bottom line – No one cares what you care about especially not Bowles. So sit down and watch the games played because you are definitely no expert and Bowles has over ruled you.

If you can’t handle that then buy some Hankies at Walmart

Kyle “30% passing” Trask will be polishing pine for at least another week and your posts will do nothing to change it even as it has not for 13 weeks.

    Tony marks,

I won’t insult you, but I will question your football acumen.

CJ Stroud would be on the hunt for the division in Carolina. Bryce does nothing to move the needle.please name one trait he has?

Bryce Young is not it. It’s evident.

Andy Dalton in one game threw for 300 yards and 2tds.

Bryce can’t see over the line, and it puts more pressure on every other player to over perform their expectations to drag the QB along. Look at Stroud or even Tommy Cutlets. They’re better. Purely simple as that.

    And baker is average.

I hope you respond and have more insults. Speaking with you on here has “ndog” vibes.

  88. SteveK Says:

    Tony marks,

Are you “too dumb for words” for thinking peewee Bryce young is better than CJ Stroud, or another young QB on that team? Hell, average Baker was better last year.

League average Andy Dalton has proven to be better.

Can you enlighten me with your divine wisdom of appreciating subpar, undersized QBs, and applying selective excuses/executing mental gymnastics to try and make a point? More insults are cool too bc it just makes your opinion go from “hot garbage” “dumpster fire” levels. Cheers!

Mayfield is the second coming of drew brees, and why not?

You are dreaming. If Baker has you that excited you might want to grab a towel.

Second coming of Drew Brees. That makes him even worse than sloppy seconds.

  91. SteveK Says:

    Orlbucsfan,

You’re right! You should sympathize with the Panther fan. We’ve been there before, just less stupidly:

    – drafted Jameis number 1 overall and he busted. 30 for 30.

-Bryce Young can’t even drive the ball down the field. Jameis at least threw for 5k yard and 30+TDs.

Bryce Young is 9td to 9 INT.

Bryce young is 1/3 the QB of Jameis, half the size, and best part of it all: it cost the panthers 5 picks, and the WR1!

We only spent a first on Jameis. And it was the right pick, just didn’t pan out.

Cj stroud is damn good. Could you imagine if mariota was cj stroud. We’d be pissed too. And then imagine the owners traded the farm, superseded the coach, and picked the smallest Qb drafted early ever. He’s JV Johnny Football!

  92. mark2001 Says:

Better learn to love him or Trask, if we end up drafting near 20. There are many teams above that hoping to upgrade the QB position.

  93. stone crab sam Says:

Baker is a middle tier QB, with a bad OC and a poor Running game. Think he could do a lot better in a different offense. Tony Marks and the other Baker Broads are not worth arguing with. They got some reason try to make every anti-Mayfield guy ” pro Trask” even when they state they want to go the draft route. They have a million excuses. They flat out like about his stats. He NEVER threw for 300 yards in a playoff game. But I’m not going back and forth. It makes no sense to expect him to improve. He’s about to be 29. He puts up garbage stats on garbage offenses and he doesn’t win. You can hope the division is the worse for a 3rd straight year next year. See how that works out. I like Howell much more. He’s much younger. Yeah he’s 4-9 but he plays Dallas and Philly twice. I’m not getting worked up because Mayfield is gone. The season and a deep dive in his numbers have been Brutal. The Fo already knows this.I don’t think we make the playoffs. Being mediocre is worse than being bad.Dont worry fellow Mayfield haters, it’s almost over. And yeah, we might draft another BRYCE YOUNG or we MIGHT draft another CJ. But I know Young doesn’t have Godwin or Evans. Scared money doesn’t make money. FOH Mayfield and Bowles!!

    ——

You are not in any position to kid not when you write foolishness like this

“CJ Stroud would be on the hunt for the division in Carolina”

want to know why its DEMONSTRABLY silly? I can school you

its an untestable claim since stroud won’t be playing for the panther this year. Its air and imagination Only kids and silly people think they can cite air as a point.

“Bryce can’t see over the line, and it puts more pressure on every other player to over perform their expectations to drag the QB along.”

I would have picked Stroud over Bryce all day long but like most traskies you can’t read a lick. I never said stroud wouldn’t be better . I said that Bryce is not the sole reason Panthers suck as badly as they do . SInce you like stroud so much I ‘ll prove my point with him and Houston

longest losing streak for that team last year was nine. Stroud is like one single came from a losing record as good as he is. Baker came on a team that had lost 17 in a row – nearly twice as bad

IF stroud ends up with a losing record this year as rookie or even next I won’t cite his number as a rookie coming to a bad team. Thats your idiocy and The browns were faaaar worse.

I consider Stroud to be a generational talent. Very few of those are around so good luck holding out for that in a QB. Even so right now he barely has his team above 500. It just shows your total nonsense in thinking .

and NO if I think you are foolish based on your arguments thats not an adhom . Look it up.

Are you “too dumb for words” for thinking peewee Bryce young is better than CJ Stroud, or another young QB on that team?

    —–

Seeeeeeee? dumb and dumber show me where I stated anywhere Young was better than Stroud. NOWHERE . YOu just can’t process basic english. I stated Bryce is not alone to blamed for all he losses and your brain took that as young is better than Stroud.

objectively can’t have a good discussion with such lack of brain power.

  101. SteveK Says:

    Tony marks,

I think stroud does better in Carolina. He is making those around him better.

Trucks vs. trailers, imho, trucks aka super stars can “pull” other players along to victory. “Trailers” like Bryce, Baker to a lesser extent, need a big time supporting cast.

If Andy Dalton was playing, the panthers would be at least a 4-5 win team.

I’m not in favor as Trask as much as I am Top-Tier or at least an above average QB play. I don’t see baker as above average enough to pay. No thanks. Draft a kid and let Trask compete. I honestly think Trask could be on Carolina and he’d be better than Bryce has been this year. Not saying much, but better is better.

  102. SteveK Says:

    Tony marks,

Try putting it together, “no one could succeed in Carolina”.

I dare to say Stroud would and could.

  103. Bucfan1988 Says:

Good afternoon all! Did you miss me??

So nice to see that Tony Marks is getting chastised by multiple folks for his lack of football acumen.
I see he’s still got his nide painting of Captain Average, his true man-crush on his wall, and cleaning it every day 🤦🏻‍♂️…

Soooo hilarious that he keeps bringing up Trask’s 30% completion being on the team for 3 years when he doesn’t mentioned all the facts..

    – Did Tony purposely forget to mention Trask’s 30% completion was with the 2nd & 3rd stringers in that game last last against Atlanta that didn’t mean anything??
    Of course he did….

Gee I wonder if Trask could manage 144 yards & 48% completion with his first string team after he PERFORMED BETTER than Mayfield in camp this year??

    I think YESSSSS…

Hopefully we will see here soon.

  104. BucsB4 Sapp Says:

Upgrade the line and running game….didn’t he have that in Cleveland? Those coaches sucked too. So expect Mayfield I’m year 7 to be great. To do something he’s never done before. Here’s a question. What veteran QB ” couldn’t” get you 225 passing yards on 34’attempts with THIS team. Minshew could because he’s doing it with less talent. Howell certainly could. Hell, Jacoby Brissett could. Btw, you won’t have to escape as many sacks if you got rid of the ball quicker. I wonder how many of those 20 TD passes were 5 yards or less? As a offense, what difference does it make if it’s a 2 yd TD pass or 2 yd TD run? Unlikely the division is just as bad next year and this the most turnovers the defense has created since 2002. Don’t bank on that next year. Very rare to do that back to back years.. Finally, you can’t keep Evans AND Mayfield. Team#5 for good ol#6. I think he’s a backup next year. Go to Ne and compete with a rookie. Your first bad game you get benched for. Not real talent there and cold weather. Good luck.Or go to Pittsburgh if the Rooney’s will have you. No weapons and cold weather. Have fun against those AFC north defenses.IF he beats out Pickett. He this bad in the NFC South with Evans and Godwin. WTF he gonna do in the AFC north. Factor in the draft, it’s a very limited QB market. Goodbye Capt. Garbage

  105. SteveK Says:

    Tony Marks,

I disagree with your argument. I’d argue that elite QB play is a “bar raiser”. Mahomes, Brady, Rodgers, etc. all raise the level of play of their teammates, not hurt them.

  108. Oz Len Says:

I think the guy is talking about Howel. He compared attributes to others including Mayfield. The article also says that Mayfield maybe about to move up a tier. Here’s the paragraph.

Howell has reduced his historic sack rate over the Washington Commanders’ past six games.

“Howell is similar to Baker for me,” one voter said. “Hard to bring down, tough, live arm, can sling it, but ultimately he is a little bit of an upgrade over Taylor Heinicke and is similar to Baker. Keeps plays alive, keeps his eyes downfield, takes big hits, can get up, gives his guys a chance, guys kind of rally around him, has some really good arm talent, but is not sustainable.”

  109. BucsB4 Sapp Says:

Steve K.. They like using the fear factor. ” Pick another BRYCE Young”. But they over look all the he franchise qbs who have came in the last 5-7 years. Yeah, you run the risk of getting another Darnold or Mayfield but what about the Allen’s,Mahomes,Lamars? You say Bryce Young, I say CJ Stroud. Let’s miss out on a franchise QB because we have a almost 30 yo journeyman with middling stats who doesn’t win. Rich Gannon was 20 years ago. Anything more CURRENT….. Jayden Daniels in Atlanta being 75 percent the player Stroud is sounds terrifying. We’ll be stuck with Mayfield and No Evans. All this is doing is postponing the inevitable. We will be taking a qb#1 in 2024 or 2025. Screw it.

We should be moving the mall much better than we are.

When the Steelers, patriots, falcons, Bucs, and possibly rams start jockeying for him, what will be the response? Market determines value. I also feel many under value bakers bond with his teammates …players play harder for those they like. Secondly, starting year 2 under the same system ( if staff stays) can only mean more proficiency on the offensive side of ball. Lastly, a question for the hate crowd.. what does baker have to do to change minds in this group? Or, is your verdict intractable?

Well Bucs fans are dumb…..honestly the fact that switching to Trask is even a discussion topic when the Bucs are in 1st place with 4 games to go is utterly insane.

Some fans appreciate top 15 production and clutch drives late in games over a guy who’s sat around doing nothing for 3 years.

  125. Cobraboy Says:

@Bucfan: the OL is not a trainwreck like the first part of the season, but is still very weak at LG & C. I give Mauch a rook pass at RG.

I do not know if Jenson returns next season, but LG is a mega-big hole. Stinnie is semi-serviceable, but good DLs school him.

If Jensen can’t play at the level before his knee, the team needs 2 interior OL.

I’d rather spend draft capital there and not some hotshot college runaround with a less than 50% chance of even getting to Mayfields level.

But it is not just the players but the scheme and playcalling. The OC is a complete failure, in my opinion. I won’t even get into Bowles because HC Bowles of the Jets is HC Bowles of the Bucs.

I neither love nor hate Trask, but he’s been a nobody so far. I’m not in the Casual Camp where the 2nd string QB is the fan favorite. He was barely OK in PS.

  126. Blue Diamond Says:

Some on JBF say the coaches have seen him for 3 years and he must be bad. Well, why haven’t those coaches ousted him already? When we lose in Green Bay we are done for the year, Unless you fans think a 6 or 7 win season is something to be proud of. Let us fans see him with and against 1st stringers, something the kid has never had the chance to do. And we fans have never seen.

  127. Cobraboy Says:

I agree: when the season is lost, let Trask play.

The worst that could happen is a higher pick order.

The best with the above is dumping these coaches.

  128. Don'tBmad Says:

Buccaneers are 1 -16 without Mayfield….they deserve to languish in the doldrums.

  129. Tbbucs3 Says:

The odds are heavily stacked against Trask 3 years in and 2 lost QB competitions later (Gabbert and Mayfield)….right now he’s in the same category of his fellow draft class SEC buddies Kellen Mond and Matt Corral.

Trask was never viewed as an elite NFL prospect, Licht reached for him in the 2d round, its VERY unlikely we have some phenom like Aaron Rodgers sitting around.

The writing is on the wall. Next!

  130. mark2001 Says:

I hear some of you say next, but again, if we win the division and draft about 20, you really expect a top tier talent at QB to fall to us, when there are many teams ahead of us in about the same situation we are? If we win the division, I think we try to build around Mayfield, whether you or I like it or not.

More than one sat for years before starting. We fans would like to see what we have in the kid

    Literally wo cares?

You’ve collectively been saying that over and over and over and over again all season and Bowles does not care about what you want to see. In addition .

No The season is NOT over with a loss Sunday. Its very unlikely that any team in the division race wins out all games

  132. realistic-optimistic Says:

“Doing nothing in the name of continuity was not a risk I was willing to take.”

Chargers owner just said this after firing HC and GM.

What continuity did Bowles extend after Arians retired? Why are we still letting him torpedo this franchise?

  133. fishhawkbuc Says:

With a name line Sando…shouldn’t he be evaluating kickers?

  134. Buckeyebuckchuck Says:

Awe, Baker Baker, touchdown maker. He us a great commodity for the Glazers when it comes down to it. Nobody likes or dislikes Mayfield, you love him or you hate him. Nobody in the national media is talking about Vea, White, Godwin. Winfield and Evans get a little attention. Mayfield? He has the Bucs up on the radar, whether its to tear him down or lift him up. If they were starting Trask nobody would give 2 craps unless he unlocked his inner Tommy Cutlets

  135. Davenport Says:

The perfect QB to bring about maximum damage to the future of the franchise.

    – came cheap
    – good enough to be .500

    – stunted Trask opportunity
    – blows out top 10 pick
    – no future with team

I wish 2023 was the year it was supposed to be: eat the dead money, build around youth, position for a top 5 pick to get a solid QB prospect.

But here we are… Not a big winner, not a big loser, exactly where you don’t want to be.

  136. Allbuccedup Says:

Looks like another 8-9 season this time we won’t win the division. This will give Licht a reason to keep Bowles for another year.

  137. WyomingJoe Says:

Tony Marks: Way to school these Cult of Kyle trolls. I can hear their weeping.

Becky: Nice stuff kid. Enjoyed it a lot!

    Keep winning Baker.

  138. Rod Munch Says:

“One Sando sources stated Mayfield is a Sam Howell clone”

    ———-

What? Sam Howell doesn’t have to struggle to meet the elusive 200-yards passing markt. What an insult to Sam, who is just a kid still and has tons of room to improve. Unlike Baker, who is what he is.

  139. Conner50 Says:

All these baker fanatics crack me up, and the fans that are ok with below .500 football play. We’re first in the worse division of football and barely even got to first place, Atlanta shouldve won the game if you watched it. Calling people a cult cause they wanna see their 2 rd pick play more than a couple snaps, shows how much they actually worship mayfield. Mayfield is not the long term answer by any means even if we got the best draft class this year and top notch free agents. Also don’t bash Bowles about his evaluation when you say they’ve seen trask for 3 years. Bowles is a cancer to this team and as a head coach first and foremost, Tampa will get one and done IF they still even make the playoffs.

  140. Buckeyebuckchuck Says:

Licht is smart, drafting to the lines and keeping what he can in FA to do a rebuild and not a teardown, ate Brady’s cap hit all at once to free up the future. Took a flyer on a former R1 QB because he came cheap for the chance at a starting job. He’s going to sign Winfield and Mayfield in free agency, because he didnt draft a safety or QB. Devin White is gone and maybe Shaq because what have they hit in the last couple drafts? Replacements. JTS, Yaya, SirVocea. Next year is a stud pass rusher R1, DB R2, IOL R3.

  141. BakerBucs Says:

wasn’t Trask in the game oh yes baker had them on the 1 yard line tweeked his ankle Trask came in missed the easiest throw it was a gift to Trask what happened a lousy field goal he blew his golden opportunity isn’t that what Brady if & when u get the opportunity u better shine cause it cud b the only shot u get he just said that a few weeks ago Trask blew it period so we hine on we u do u like cheese we with that whine f””* cry babies trask just announced his retirement bye bye freakin weirdos

Stretching that a little aren’t ya? 2 competitions? Don,t pay much attention do ya?
Brady came in 2 years ago, and didn’t want a rookie backing him up, thus gabbert. If you want to really nut hug Mayfield keep saying Trask lost to him in the preseason (which everyone seen who won) But Bowles made sure Mayfield won (supposedly). I guess those 3 teams that dropped Mayfield didn’t know what they were doing either! Mayfield is not bad. Neither is he good. Certainly not a #1 QB.

  146. Bucfan1988 Says:

If anybody is interested, I pulled the final injury report from the Green Bay Packers today.

They have seven players questionable, and one player doubtful.
Christian Watson is the doubtful player.

Questionable players include AJ Dillon, Jaire Alexander, Quay Walker, Dontayvion Wicks, Aaron Jones, Darnell Savage, &

  147. Bucfan1988 Says:

Erik Stokes is the other questionable

Finding our young talented qb for the future baker is a good backup at best 💯

  149. Tb bolts Says:

The fact that theres still people on here arguing about trasks single throw this regular season shows he’s in their heads rent free. Anyone on the baker wagon thats traveled to four teams now knows that their guy is pure dog water. But by god they’ll defend him to the ends of the earth. Go sooners!

  150. Tb bolts Says:

The baker gang -wyoming-tony- think just because their boy is starting that they some how won the baker vs trask argument. Baker is less than .500 and threw for 144 yards sunday. Imagine watching that game then coming on here waving a victory flag. Baker is riding a line finer than his etched on jawline beard. Wouldn’t be surprised if he loses out the rest of the season. A couple field goals and a pick in the red zone just kept midfields season alive. But theres no mystery of whats coming.. so the bakery club has to enjoy this website while they still can. Can’t wait for sunday

  151. Defense Rules Says:

The Bucs are in the hunt for a playoff spot for one reason … They don’t suck quite as bad as the rest of the miserable NFC South. That’s nothing to brag about, nor is it anything to base your future on. And yet, it’s better than the alternative.

Mayfield does not excite me in the slightest as our starting QB, but I’d bet that he excites the rest of the Bucs’ team. None of them gives a rats right now that they’re 6-7; the only thing every one of them cares is that they STILL have a CHANCE to make the playoffs. And through those 13 games, Mayfield has been their QB. And yes, Todd Bowles has been their HC and Dave Canales has been their OC. And they’ll ride that train until the wheels fall off.

I’d LOVE to find out if Task has any potential at all to be our future QB, but I seriously doubt at this point the powers that be will make that happen until a train wreck occurs. It is what it is and we are where we are. All any of us can do is hope for the best for this team.

  152. Student of the Game Says:

Oneilbuc, true that Mayfield has been in the league 6 years playing for TEAMS that suck, so his stats you love to quote are not spectacular. How about teams known to be very good, with injury bug this year? Kansas City, Buffalo, New York Jets. Look at San Francisco, who was out the 3 games they lost? You and everyone like you are no different than the network talking heads. Cleveland was winning with Mayfield, until that all pro tackle got hurt, then Mayfield got hurt the next week. Not a coincidence. The Bucs problems are not at QB.

  153. T. McGee Says:

Baker is Tim Tebow with better marketing. Tough dude, leader, clutch, but isn’t accurate enough to be a pro QB. Why can’t everyone see that?

  154. Conner50 Says:

    Baker Bucs
How about go rewatch them two plays that Trask came in at the goal line, cause you clearly didn’t watch. He delivered a perfect pass to Godwin in the corner where only Godwin could get it and he dropped it, was well defended on Indy but yea your an idiot

  155. orlbucfan Says:

Hey DR, mebbe Canales got your memo and will get CREATIVE calling a balance between runs (like sweeps, screens, and QB bootleg options), and passing. Some of you characters on here need to learn not only reading, but spelling and grammar. I’m in total agreement on the Occult of Trask. We need to see him playing with the first team O in an actual game. 1988, seriously dude, you need spellcheck. Go Bucs!!

  156. Conner50 Says:

    BakerBucs
Two plays trask came in a handoff to white for 2 yards, then the strike to Godwin where he didn’t get two feet down or control the ball all the way down. You don’t speak no facts we all watched the game lol smoke that baker pack again

  157. Mark hardt Says:

So you really think an un-named source that trashed Baker before the season is going to admit they were wrong? Oh i am still right it will just take longer than i thought to prove I was right. In the mean time i hired a voodo queen to stick pins in the arms and legs of a Baker doll i got from Progressive insurance
    marketing SWAG.

  158. Bucsmarley Says:

Is Trask the answer …… guess we will never know. What I do know is baker is not the answer. You people are settling for average at best. Baker is a .500 qb nothing more. The sooner you realize and are honest with yourself that he is not the answer the better off you will feel. And to the Trask haters that forget he was leading the bs qb battle in camp , we all know Todd knew his job is dependent on wins and of course the safer bet is to go with the guy who has experience, but how does one get experience. I’m willing to bet Trask would play better than Bryce young the #1 pick😂. Before you hater’s attack my opinion making it clear not saying Trask is the guy but who knows? I certainly do not trust our coaches to evaluate when we play defensive plays with 9 guys lol. Hate being in such a lousy division that unrealistic fans think we are a good team. We have been garbage since BA left. Time to pay the price and build for the future. He’ll bring back dungy to coach these fools

  159. BelleGladeBuc Says:

If the Bucs make the playoffs they will play either the Eagles or the Cowboys.

If any of the Baker Cult states that Baker can lead the Bucs and beat either team, then they need to be put in a straight jacket and committed to a mental institution.

The Bucs will be destroyed by either the Eagles or Cowboys in a home playoff game.

No Baker cult fan would bet 10 large on the Bucs to defeat either the Cowboys or Eagles in a playoff game. That tells you everything you need to know about the Baker Cults’ convictions.

I’ll bet 10 large that the Bucs are going to lose to either the Eagles or Cowboys in a playoff game and it is going to be easy money.

  160. BelleGladeBuc Says:

Also, if the Bucs play either the Cowboys or Eagles in a home playoff game their will be mor Cowboy fans or Eagles’ fans in the stands than Bucs fans.

It’ll technically be a home game for the Bucs, but in reality it will be a home game for the Cowboys or Eagles.

Blown out at home in a nationally televised playoff game with a majority of the fans being from the visiting team will have the Glazers extremely happy with Bowles and Baker.

  161. ShakeandBaker Says:

Connor I am far from a Baker nut. I want them to draft a QB or trade for Fields. Trask ain’t it though no matter how hard you n@t huggers want him to be. He knows more that some Gator homer. Last pick of the second round for a reason. They see him every day and know a lot more than some random poster who knows nothing about football. Why don’t you stfu because until you become GM what you want means nothing. Fwiw I’m a Gator fan, but I could care less where guys went to school once the become Bucs. Dude couldn’t beat out Gabbert. If he impressed Arians he would have been able to supplant some journeyman backup behind Brady.

  162. optimisticbucsfan Says:

  164. Gipper Says:

Don’t know who the “unnamed source” is who said a lot of dumb stuff about Baker. Here is what you have you have to know: 1)Great arm, 2)Highly accurate when given time to throw, 3) great leadership and toughness. 3) loves the game, 4) ask Tristan Wirfs and Mike Evans what they think of Baker. Baker completed 70% of his passes last couple of years at OKlahoma. Baker was watching from sidelines after getting ahead of Houston and Atlanta on late drives. Not much of a stretch that team should be 8-5. Baker will have a Drew Brees like career with Tampa. Foolish to go out and start over with a rookie. Bryce Young hasn’t been the Messiah for Carolina.

  167. Conner50 Says:

    ShakeandBaker
You clearly are your multiple names on here verify that. You want them to draft or trade for fields instead of seeing what their 2rd pick can do first lmao. Being picked in the second round is actually pretty dang good so idk where you’re trying to go with that one. “They see him every day” yea the same they’d who had 9 men on the goal line stand, same ones who have jts playing and not watts, have Neal playing instead of merriweather. Yea their evaluation sucks. Also gabbert was strictly the backup due to Brady, wanted a veteran to talk to on the sidelines about strategy instead of a rookie who didn’t have any experience in nfl. Your a moron and don’t know anything about Tampa

  168. Conner50 Says:

    Gipper
Mayfield will go on to have a Drew Bree’s type of career that’s hilarious!! Foolish to settle for mediocrity and to not keep searching for the franchise guy. Carolina has a worse team and just because young isn’t turning out so far don’t mean Tampa would have same luck.

  169. BelleGladeBuc Says:

    @the Baker Cult

    Ticket sales are drastically down.

The Bucs TV games aren’t being broadcast in places like Orlando this season anymore.

The Bucs games are getting relegated by the broadcast networks to time slots where they compete against the national game, drawing less eye balls.

Baker is the face of the franchise and this is the business/money/interest he has generated.

If you think the Glazers are happy with this business situation then I got some great swamp land to sell you in the Everglades.

    ——–

Educate yourself before typing – all NFL teams share from the national broadcasts – That is not affecting the Glazers business at all

and ticket sales were always going to go down after Brady retired. Even when we started out hot with a winning record the stadium was filled with the opponents fans.

So your whole last post was meaningless
    .

  171. Lightning Buc Says:

Mike Sando is irrelevant until he names sources. Anyone can put out drivel about anything regarding anything in the league. Have some guts and quit being a troll.

  172. 1sparkybuc Says:

I want to see Trask START a game so the Bucs can have a better idea of WHAT ROUND they need to draft a QB next spring. I don’t want Bowles back, and I don’t want Mayfield back. We’ve won two SBs with hired guns at QB. I hope to live long enough to see a QB that we draft sign a second contract with the team. Trask outperformed Mayfield last summer in a rigged competition. Mayfield had experience as a starter, BAD experience, which explains why he wasn’t signed to an extension with any of those teams. Hopefully the Bucs aren’t the first team to make that mistake. I want the team to improve next season. If Bowles and Mayfield return, there’s no chance of that. If we pick at #19, we have no shot at one of the top rated QBs, if that’s determined to be our biggest need. Trask might be the next Purdy or the next Mayfield. We’ll never have a clue until there is factual evidence when he actually STARTS an NFL game.

  173. BelleGladeBuc Says:

    @Tony

You show everyone here how you are not a Bucs fan and only a Baker cult member.

Every Bucs fan knows that the Glazers care a lot about ticket sales.

This site has had numerous past articles on that very subject.

Baker was supposed to move the needle in a positive direction for the Bucs revenue wise. He hasn’t.

Baker is not a nobody. He’s a well known commodity. The Glazers like big names and Baker is a big name.

Secondly, you need to educate yourself. This website had an article about how Bucs games in various parts of Florida were being replaced with Jags games. Less eyeballs in Orlando on the Bucs and more eyeballs on the Jags is bad for the Bucs’ business.

Baker is the face of this franchise and responsible for this.

If you think that the Glazers are happy with that, then you don’t understand business.

  174. Blue Diamond Says:

    What 1SparkyBuc says! Ditto.

  175. ShakeandBaker Says:

Belleglade you can’t possibly be that dumb! Do you remember who the QB was last year? Glazers knew ticket sales were going to plummet. The were is salary cap hell, predicted to win 2-3 games, and brought in a QB for $4M. You think that brought in a guy on his 4th team in 3 years to sell tickets. Wow, truly the dumbest take I’ve ever seen on this site!

  176. ShakeandBaker Says:

    They were in

  177. BelleGladeBuc Says:

    @ShakeBake

First, you’re factually incorrect about the Bucs predicted 2-3 wins this season. Vegas had the Bucs futures line at 7.5 wins for this season. That kind of factually incorrect statement from you shows that you’re either an individual who tells wild stories and has an extreme problem with the truth or you are extremely biased for your love of Baker or both.

You’re a cult member who is honestly extremely immature as you have numerous times been a Pom Pom waver for a career losing journeyman quarterback who you say you are “defending” this grown man who is a millionaire playing a child’s game from people who criticize his play and performance. Grow up. Criticism of performance is never personal. I can tell that you never played football at all or served in the armed forces.

Newsflash, I have said numerous times that neither Trask nor Baker are the answer for the Bucs.

If my take is as bad as you say it is, then I am in good company as Joe had the same take in an article on his site on 4/29/23 titled, “Rough Weekend For The Buccaneers’ Ticket Sales Department.”

Football tickets are a luxury item. Times are extremely tough economically for people.

Baker is supposed to be moving the needle for next season’s ticket holder resales and Baker was supposed to help attract new ticket holders.

He is failing to do that right now.

In the above quoted article, the Joes said that Baker was brought in and supposed to help increase ticket sales.

“Joe is starting to think Baker Mayfield being Baker Mayfield might be the best and only option to fire up Bucs fans before opening day. So Joe feels tonight for the season ticket sales folks who have to smile and dial on Monday morning to try to fill The Licht House for the 2023 season.”

Baker failed to do that for this season and his performance this season is currently harming next season’s ticket sales.

This is business. Nothing personal. Adults understand such concepts. One day I hope that you do.

  178. NE Fan Says:

Comparing Baker to Brees, really, maybe his last season when Brees’ arm was falling off. Baker is having his best season because the majority of the Bucs schedule are some of the worst teams in the league and their wins are against VERY bad teams. No chance at GB this weekend.

  179. Eric Moffett Says:

You must not be a season ticket holder. Have you ever been to Rayjay! They removed an entire section of stands behind the south end zone as soon as Brady retired. Glazers knew they were about to take a bath in ticket sales. Outside of them trading for Mahomes nothing was going to change that. Nobody was going be throwing cash out for season tix simply because they signed a QB who has never lived up to his billing. NOBODY!

Did I say Vegas predicted 2-3 wins? Many of the national experts like Peter King did though. They brought in Baker because he was cheap and had some experience. That’s it, end of story regardless of some article Joe wrote about ticket sales months ago. Everyone knew this would be a difficult year as we had gone all in for championships the previous 3 years. The only downside is we are mediocre enough now to miss out on a guy like Daniels. However I am enjoying the fact that we are still in contention in the division vs reading only mock drafts.

  180. Eric Moffett Says:

And fwiw the over under was 6.5, not 7.5. But yeah keep up with the insults like I don’t know what I’m talking about.

  181. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

He’s just barely good enough to keep the Bucs from being in a position to draft a potential franchise QB
