Jay Glazer: Bucs Don’t “Believe” Kyle Trask Is An Upgrade From Baker Mayfield

November 7th, 2023

Kyle Trask insight.

Bucs fans are angry and Joe cannot blame them the way the defense shat all over itself like it did Sunday in Houston.

But there is a subsect of fans angry since Tom Brady retired. Why? Because they are peeved that Kyle Trask has not been elevated to the starting quarterback position.

Uber NFL insider Jay Glazer of FOX Sports on Sunday rubbed salt in their wounds. Glazer said no way should the Bucs bench Baker Mayfield for Trask, unless the Bucs are totally out of the playoff chase.

On a FOX Sports podcast, Glazer fielded questions from NFL fans and one wanted to know if the time has come to pull Mayfield and replace him with Trask.

Glazer almost couldn’t believe the question was serious.

“Any other division, I’d say, ‘Yeah!'” Glazer began. “But no! You’re still right there [in a division title race] in Tampa, absolutely.

“Look, teams were calling about Mike Evans. [Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht said], ‘No, we’re still in this thing.’ So they weren’t interested in doing that.

“You’re still in it in the [NFC] South. … All you have to do is get in the dance at the end. That’s it. So, even if you have a losing record, you just have to get in it and anything can happen.”

Then Glazer dropped a mini bombshell saying he doesn’t believe Todd Bowles and his staff trust Trask to lead the team to the playoffs.

“Look, they know what Kyle Trask can do. Right?” Glazer said. “They see him every day. They know what Baker Mayfield can do.

“So I think if they thought Kyle Trask could give us a better shot to win right now, we’d go over and do that. But I don’t think they believe that.”

This is basically what Joe has been telling people since internationally popular JoeBucsFan.com columnist Ira Kaufman learned in early August that Mayfield won the quarterback battle. If Bucs coaches trusted Trask to lead them to the playoffs, the team never would have signed Mayfield.

Besides, Bowles is coaching for his career. As Joe had written dozens of times, no coach whose career is on the line is going to trust his livelihood in the hands of a guy who has a grand total of nine pass attempts in two seasons.

Even if the Bucs are out of playoff contention, Bowles is going to strive for wins to remain employed. Bowles doesn’t care about the future, he’s worried about right now.

Unless Team Glazer promises Bowles he will return for 2024, Bowles is not going to start Trask short of Mayfield getting injured. Bowles is in survival mode.

  1. Defense Rules Says:

Joe … ‘Besides, Bowles is coaching for his career.’

And how’s that working out for him? I really don’t care about what he’s done in the past; only care about the here & now.
And that record is losing 4 out of 5 with a relatively healthy roster because of lousy game plans, mediocre play-calling and inadequate adjustments on offense AND defense. Not impressed.

  2. Hodad Says:

Todd and his staff don’t believe Trask can lead them to the playoffs. That’s funny, because I don’t believe Todd and his staff can lead us to the playoffs this year either. Sure the players don’t believe it either. Trask isn’t the answer to this cluster F. Todd Bowles is a loser from his Jet days. Doesn’t matter who the QB is when your coach sucks. Baker, Trask, Sam Donarld, doesn’t matter when your hooked to an anchor like Bowles you just sink to the bottom.

  3. BucU Says:

Fire this entire coaching staff YESTERDAY Glazers!!

  4. BA’s Red Pen Says:

The occult of Trask does not approve this message.

  5. bob in valrico Says:

Gawd,I miss Arians. Bowles has deflated the offense in the last year and a half.
He would point out who was wide ass open and he didn’t care who didn’t like it.
I see no evidence that Canales is innovative enough to get the ball in our playmakers hands. Was anybody impressed by the designed runs by Baker on Sunday? As game as Baker is he is not a running back, he should take advantage of wide open areas left by the defense on a occasion. But he is a QB ,and if rookies can pick apart defenses, why can’t Canales and Baker do it? They both need to get together with Godwin and get him more involved in the offense
    downfield.

  6. garro Says:

I don’t believe Glazer, and I certainly don’t believe he is a true insider Joe.

He is merely a mouthpiece for folks who want to send info out for their own reasons. He has been and will be manipulated and used just like all the other talking heads.

You can bet that if anyone at One Buc were serious about a change he would be the last one to know. And then, only if the Glazers or someone’s agent saw an advantage in telling him or anyone else such a thing.

Just another talking head. Truth is, Baker has not been bad all things considered. The offense still has all the weaknesses it had with Brady. He is performing well considering he is not Brady and the team prior to this week was averaging the same amount of points as last year.

Soo… Glazer is safe making up what ever gets clicks along these lines. Be interesting to know if that was a real fan or a plant for the “show”. Pretty sure his “question” was screened before the show either way.

    Go Bucs!

  7. garro Says:

BTW Who in the heck is this “they” he is talking about! Glazers? Canales? Bowles? The water boys?

My contempt for the media grows daily Joe.

    Go Bucs!

  8. BFFL Says:

Whatever. That’s Licht for you. He drafts a guy in the 2nd rd and never plays him. How many 2nd rd picks has he wasted? Excellent cap manager too deferring so much money on a roster of mediocre bums.

  9. Voice of Truth Says:

You mean the same people that have no clue how to win in the NFL? Todd?

Todd ran Tom Brady into the ground, he is the ultimate OC and QB killer…

Kyle might be better off not playing for Todd, ever.

  10. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

If they say bench McFly the occult Faker McFly sticks fingers in ears at the top of their lungs scream “NAH NAH NAH NAH NAH NAH NAH NAH NAH NAH NAH I CAN’T HEAR YOU!!! I CAN’T HEAR YOU!!! ” then drop to the ground kicking like the little infants they are. 😅🤣😂

The NFL has already seen what will always be in every team McFly’s been on, just not good enough. Not good enough to win on a regular basis and not bad enough to bench permanently. In other words continuous mediocrity. That’s what these fans want and what Coach Chitterlings wants

  11. August 1976 Buc Says:

NEW Head Coach and new Talent Cycle to become a legit playoff contender.

Anything short of that equals a longer and longer time for a Bucs fan to root for a good team with a realistic shot of winning at least 2 playoff games.

Last year was so great, a losing team going into playoffs, to then get embarrassed in Dallas beatdown.

THE DEN OF DEPRESSION HAS BECOME A RAGING DUMPSTER FIRE AGAIN!!!!

  12. SufferingSince76 Says:

So, can we now officially label Trask a bust?

  13. SlyPirate Says:

    NEAL – DEE
    VAUGHN – ANYONE
    JTS – YAYA
    BAKER – TRASK

Never really cared about the Baker/Trask controversy but it’s probably the wrong answer, when the Bucs thinktank believes one player is better than another.

  14. SlyPirate Says:

    USC vs OREGON
On the subject of QBs, every Buc should watch USC vs OREGON this Saturday. The game will feature gunslingers: Caleb Williams vs Bo Nix. You might be scouting your next QB.

  15. Dlavid Says:

It is painfully obvious that this team misses Bruce’s red pen ! Bowles is way in over his head ! As Joe stated, Lowes is only concerned about now, not the future ! We are not going to the playoffs, we should have dealt some pieces off before the trade deadline, such is a Buc life ! Next year is a total rebuild and new administration !

  16. Couch Fan Says:

Heres the issue. It doesnt matter what they think. Mayfield isnt getting the job done. You have to try something, anything to see if you can find a spark. Maybe Trask isnt an upgrade but thats no excuse not to put him out there and see what happens. Or you can continue the spiral downwards and get fired at the end of the season anyways.

  17. Boomer Says:

I’m not sure it’s on Baker. I think Canales has him boxed into certain plays and Baker isn’t the one calling the runs up the middle for 1 yard or the screen passes for minus 2 yards OR playing in the secondary….

If Canales and his staff can’t figure out how to get the ball to their best players, there’s no way they should be trusted to evaluate players. That said, I don’t think Trask is an upgrade for Baker.

  18. nick houllis Says:

Why are we talking about Kyle Trask? we scored more than enough points. QB play is NOT the problem. once the losses pile up, and Baker continues to look good, don’t forget Baker is gone end of year. you can’t trade him unless you resign him. Kyle Trask, if he plays the last 4 games and looks good, he CAN be traded. With that being said, we need to grab one of those amazing new crop of QBs so we can have a rookie contract QB that will allow us to spend in other places like DL, OL, RB, S

  19. nick houllis Says:

COUCH FAN.. did you watch the game? you watched that came and you came out with Baker isn’t getting the job done? you don’t want a spark, you want the next Big Bang

  20. Couch Fan Says:

Baker isnt getting the job done. scoring some points against a bad team missing 5 starters isnt impressive. Did you forget about the games before that where they couldn’t even move the ball?…. Now I’ve said before that Baker has been good enough but the team does need a spark unless you think losing 5 out of the last 6 games is something special.

  21. Beeej Says:

This bears repeating: 2 of 3 first round qb picks are busts

  22. Nope Says:

So, the same people who told us that Baker gives us the bast chance to win, are the same people still telling us the same thing? Got it. Here’s to hoping the young man gets traded to a better situation.

  23. Usfbuc Says:

We should see Trask at some point late this season, once we don’t have a shot at the playoffs. Baker has some areas to improve but I agree that he certainly isn’t what is holding us back at this point. That said I also see the point of trying anything to get better.

I think we should have White play some OLB, take JTS off the field, take Neal off the field as a starter too. Also play more man with our CBs.

  24. power sweep Says:

Fox Sports Meathead Glazer: “Look, they know what Kyle Trask can do. They see him every day.”

Who is “they” and how do “they” know what Kyle Trask can do with the starting offense in a game when Trask has never been allowed to take a single snap with the starting offense in a game? They can’t. It’s not possible.

The Falcons and Packers “saw backup Brett Favre every day”, did they know what he could do? Nope.

The Patriots “saw backup Tom Brady every day”, did they know what he could do? Nope.

The 49ers “saw backup Brock Purdy every day”, did they know what he could do? Nope.

The Titans “saw backup Will Levis every day”, did they know what he could do? Nope.

The IQ bar for being an NFL “analyst” is obviously quite low.

  25. TDTB Says:

This was nothing but deductive reasoning. If the Bucs thought Trask gave them a better shot at the playoffs…of course they would have started him. The point know is that the Bucs aren’t making the playoffs and we need to know definitively if Trask can play well enough to lead a team to the playoffs. Some guys are better at games than they are practice. The organization can’t know its draft strategy until it gets a decent opportunity to evaluate Trask in games. It’s that simple. If you put him and the team does well you might make playoffs (if you don’t he wasn’t responsible because the bad games have already been played). If he sucks you know what you need to do at QB. The organization screwed up any doing what Brady wanted in his last year and it’s paying the price for it this year (See Fornette, Jensen, Gage, Jones and Rudolph). All the fan base is asking for is to not make this year a waste. At least know definitively what you have on roster at QB because nothing else good is coming out of this crap fest.

  26. Jason Says:

History says Trask will lead his second team to a Superbowl. Just saying lol.

  27. Couch Fan Says:

Besides, Bowles is coaching for his career. As Joe had written dozens of times, no coach whose career is on the line is going to trust his livelihood in the hands of a guy who has a grand total of nine pass attempts in two seasons.

    ————
So it makes sense to you that he sticks with the QB who has lost his whole career and so far has a losing record with the Bucs? Because that makes no sense to me but nothing this buffoon has done has made any sense to me.

  28. StormyInFl Says:

They don’t need to see Trask in a game. The only ones that do are fans. By that reasoning, they need to start Wolford with the ones, too. Oh, and I guess they never really evaluated Ryan Griffin, either.

  29. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

Yeah we know Bowles wanted Mayfield.

We also know the QB competition was a lie and there is nothing Joe can say to make us believe otherwise.

    Bowles is a liar.

  30. rickym Says:

I believe Baker Mayfield is the only reason this team is even competitive. He is playing behind an offensive line that gives him about 2.5 seconds to throw. No running game whatsoever. An OC that has zero experience as an OC / Play caller andone of the worst Head coaches in recent memory. Baker must duck under pass rushers and spin out of sacks multiple times per game and if not for his quick release and ability to avoid sacks the OL would grade out as the worst in the NFL. Without Baker Mayfield the Bucs would be winless this year.

  31. SB~LV Says:

    How would he know?
    How does anyone know?
Mayfield does have flaws in his game.

  32. Jeff’s grandpa Says:

Trask bois are angry face it he was a wasted 2nd rd pk

  33. Couch Fan Says:

Its almost as if some of these fans and this HC rather lose with Mayfield than try to win with anybody else. LMAO

  34. Fishhawkbuc Says:

No shows to the game will get the attention of the Glazers.

  35. Usfbuc Says:

@Fishhawkbuc – that’s exactly right, drain the stadium and we drain the Toilet Bowels

  36. Larrd Says:

Baker Mayfield has been playing very well. The Bucs best player, so far.

  37. Jeff Says:

Let’s hope clueless Todd loses out so the Yucs can get a franchise QB. Fire Clueless Todd!

  38. Greg Says:

I am sure that is what he believes. That doesn’t mean he is right though. Unfortunately, I think that was a squandered pick. Not just because we could have picked someone else, but also because I think they ignored him. Arians certainly did. Arians parked him on the bottom of the depth chart and promptly forgot him

There was zero thought about the interests of the franchise. They had Brady and that was it. If he had been developed what might have happened?

  39. Erick Says:

This Power Sweep guy has to be related to Trask lol

  40. WyomingJoe Says:

Ouch! PLEASE, someone call the paramedics before Mike S, David and the Capt’n Munch have a seizure. Ok, I know the truth hurts guys, but it’s all part of growing up. Saying that Trask isn’t an upgrade to Baker is the understatement of the year. As I said in a previous text, Baker is in the middle of the pack right now as far as stats go, but will be in the Top 10 if our OC sets him free. We’re also going to make the playoffs, and win 1 or 2 games there. Then guess what? That’s right, Baker gets a new contract. Baker isn’t the reason why this team is losing, but he will be the reason why they eventually win. Sorry again girls…

  41. DBS Says:

You can always tell who Son of Trask is. The name changes but the statements are the same word for word.

  42. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

Wyoming Baker is mediocre at best. A handful of people at OneBuc have staked their careers on him. Of course they are going to defend that decision.

Each week as the Bucs keep losing it reveals the merit of that decision.

I think now we all see the handwriting on the wall and only the stubborn diehards continue to show up to defend it.

Prepare yourself for the throttling Bucs are going to get over the next 2 games.

    It’s going to get ugly.

  43. Since76 Says:

If Trask is worse than Mayfield why is he on the roster. I believe any back up in the league could have better numbers than Mayfield to this point in the season. Licht needs to take total responsibility for 0 talent at the most important position. Licht needs to go if this is true.

  44. DBS Says:

Yes he should get his chance. Bowles is stubborn and unless Mayfield gets hurt he will not get it.

  45. RustyRhinos Says:

Hey SlyPirate, I would take Bo Nix in the draft, said it before the season started. It should be a great game, I also like the TE from Oregon Patric Herbert. The O-lines for both teams have some good players to watch as well. It should be a good game.

So if we lose another 2 or 3 games, will this Glazer change his tune? Or will we never know what we actually have in our backup QB? Yeah, Yeah, Yeah… Don’t get your panties in a wad.

Yet we hear again and again how everyone knows this that and the other thing about our backup QB. Except, for what he would actually do in this offense in an NFL game. And we very well could never see what he can do, cause, Baker…… We all get it that he has the experience, has been to the playoffs, and Was a #1 draft choice… We also can see our record and our stats, with him as QB.

What could it hurt if we lose the next game? Then decide to start our backup QB Trask. Give him a few games or the rest of them, to see what we have going into the draft next year.

I for one am ready to give Trask a chance to show what he has learned and what he can do within this offense.

    GO!!!!! BUCS!!!!!

  46. D-Rome Says:

Baker Mayfield gives the team the best chance to win, period. He’s more experienced and a better athlete. It has nothing to do with being a Baker Mayfield fan. I suspect it’s the same for most everyone else who thinks Baker should be the starter. The same can’t be said for the Mike Glennon Mob II. Kyle Trask fans are Gator fans. That’s it. Be honest for once in your lives and admit you want to see Trask play because he’s a Gator. None of you would be here if he played for Mississippi State.

  47. Mike S Says:

Baker Mayfield is on his 4th team in 6 years and the line of coaches who got fired on the teams he played for is long.

Expect the trend of losing and coaches getting fired to continue.

  48. Mike S Says:

D-Rome you’re talking out of your backside repeating the Bowles line about Trask like a parrot.

  49. BakerBucs Says:

Baker played with 3 garbage teams before bucs he is special QB his season record is evident as is the last drive of Texans game he is the winner u grossly over rated crappy fans we hope all u website mouth trash drain the stadium cause we buc supporters don’t want u losers on this website hit the road baker had a rating of 119 Sunday Brady didn’t have anything close to that last year. Stroud had 1 good game this season happened to be against the bucs he lost to Panthers with young as 1st pick of 2023 how’s that working out I wud take baker any day over wanna b 1st picks this coming year

  50. TheMIGHTYVH Says:

Baker is not one of the MANY problems plaguing this team. Has he played great? No. No way. No question there are a bunch of throws you know he wishes he could have back, especially during this skid. Changing at this pt to Trask? No thank you unless Trask can play center? Or guard? Or edge rusher? Or corner? Or can he take over for Bowles? Like I said in first sentence, Baker is the least of our problems. Now if we are sitting at 4-9 with four games to go, yeah, see what the kid can do.

  51. realistic-optimistic Says:

If Bucs coaches trusted Trask to lead them to the playoffs, the team never would have signed Mayfield.

And you trust this coaching staff to make the correct evaluation?

  52. Mike S Says:

BAKERFAKERBUCS yeah he had 266 yards against a depleted mash unit. He was also aided by 9 Houston penalties for 115 yards.

He is going to get his ass kicked by Tennessee on Sunday.

  53. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Steve Young.

Same scenario. Almost exactly the same.

Trask plays nothing like Young, but coaching staff failed to see Young’s greatness and traded him for pennies.

Trask performed much better than Mayfield in the “competition”, yet Mayfield still got the starting role.

That exposed the competition as being fake, and that is when Bowles started losing players. Mayfield talked big, delivered small. But Bowles made him starter from the moment he was signed.

This past week, in a game that fans who like Baker claim he played well, I saw something different:

    Texans are a bad team
    Texans had no secondary
Mayfield had wide open deep targets and still threw the ball out of reach.
On short to medium range, Mayfield had a lot of passes that were off target but catchable.

Winning 37.5% is right around Mayfield’s career average, and that is exactly his record now. I said it before he was signed…if fans don’t want to win more than 40% of the games, he would be a good signing.

Low and behold, we are right there where I predicted.

I’m disgusted with this organization. Not that it matters. The Glazers will (better) fire Bowles, but they will wait until the season is over. Big mistake.

Not firing him immediately is going to cost this team in the long run.I

As owner, I would step in and:

    Fire Bowles
Make Canales interum head coach (season is over anyway)
Force Canales to start Trask the remainder of the season

I wouldn’t expect to win. I would expect to draft high. If Trask happened to do very well, then it might change plans for that pick.

  54. realistic-optimistic Says:

I’m not a Trask fanboi because I have no idea what he can do as a starter. But to say definitively that he sucks without ever seeing him start is ridiculous. Nobody knew what Purdy would do until they watched him do it.

It just makes no sense that a team would spend a 2nd round pick on a player (any position) only to let the entire contract complete without ever putting the player on the field. Who does that???

  55. Eric Says:

Hey Joe simple question who thought Brady was an upgrade over Bledsoe who thought Purdy was an upgrade over Lance until you put these guys in real game situations you have no idea how they will respond! Truth of the matter is Baker is an average to below average qb you throw the 65 completions ratio out there all you want he is average to below average and I doubt if he gets much better no how much he plays! I submit that the Bucs would be no worst off for the and at least you get to see what Trask can do if any Buc fan consider this a playoff team you are dreaming and it’s not just the players the coaching is not good! Tell me one game where baker was clearly the best QB on the field tell me one game where the Bucs out coached any team any team!

  56. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

As a fan, I’ll have the games on in the background…maybe. At this point, I really don’t care this year.

  57. Greg Says:

As a Trask fan, I am not claiming the team will be better with Trask. What I am saying is that the team is not good with Baker either. As joe hammered all off-season, Baker has games under hi belt. Fast forward to next year, Baker will be gone. Wouldn’t we like to give Trask some games under his belt and see what he can do? Worst case is he ends up a better backup. Bowels and Baker are not our future.

  58. Tbbucs3 Says:

Trask was yet another wasted pick by Jason Licht

  59. Mike S Says:

    Tbbucs3 OK Todd Bowles

  60. ocala Says:

Baker has played well this season. He is not the problem.
Bowles is the problem. Bowles is awful.

  61. Buccos Says:

Bowles is washed up. He’s had a great career as a player and a coach. He doesn’t have the fire in the belly. Arians has a barstool waiting for him at a tiki bar in Key West

  62. JD Still Says:

So what is the difference between the long time NFL powers that be and The Bucs ? New England did not believe Tom Brady ,(6 th round draft choice )was the answer, Atlanta did not believe Brett Farve ( the geniuses traded him to Green Bay without ever giving him a chance) San Francisco did not believe Purdy ,( Mr.Irrelevant) was an upgrade until they all were given the opportunity to prove themselves in games and did, Kyle Trask has never been given that opportunity.

  63. Oneilbuc Says:

This why the bucs are the most losing team in all sports !! If we had Ryan Tanahill this fan base and Joe will rather see him play even if he’s playing bad than the bucs to move on. The Titans said Ryan Tanahill is a waste of time at this point so they even went with their young quarterback because it makes more sense than playing a guy who’s playing bad and want be back next year. This is a proven fact that Glazers are using bucs meadi to help them sale tickets rather than win . That’s why no matter how bad Baker Mayfield plays they will always say it’s not his fault. He is responsible for 80 percent of why the offense has been bad !! Again how can you expect a quarterback that’s on his 4th team in 6 years be a good quarterback at this point of his career?? Lol 🤣🤣 this season is over!!

  64. Defense Rules Says:

Larrd … ‘Baker Mayfield has been playing very well. The Bucs best player, so far.’

That’s quite a stretch Larrd, considering that we still have guys named LVD, Wirfs, Evans, etc. What mostly matters in a QB is CAN HE LEAD THE TEAM TO WINS? Right now Bucs are 3-5 (so the WINS part is kinda circumspect) and we’re in a downward spiral (losing 4 of our last 5 kinda gives that one away). This team needs multiple wins NOW to show that it’s on the right track & is growing. Can Mayfield provide the leadership to accomplish that? Not from what I’m seeing.

Baker’s led us to scoring an average of 19.8 PPG (thanks to the Houston game), ranking us #22 now in Points Scored per Game.
4.9 YPP average through 8 games, ranks us #23 in the NFL. In terms of 1st downs per game, we rank #28. All that with our defense providing the offense with 15 turnovers (to include 7 points), almost exactly 2 turnovers per game.

Not a clue in the world if Trask can do any better. But it sure does seem doubtful at this point that Mayfield is ever going to lead us to the promised land. He’s not the long term answer. Maybe Trask isn’t either, but I’d sure like to see what he’s got BEFORE we either trade him or he walks after next year.

  65. D-Rome Says:

Baker Mayfield is currently on pace to throw for 3,963 yards, completing 65% of his passes, 26 TDs, and 9 INT. There isn’t a coach in the NFL that would bench that kind of production.

  66. WyomingJoe Says:

BAKER IS BETTER than Trask! MUCH BETTER. It isn’t even close. Please stop whining Trask lovers. Although I am enjoying your whining, lol. Trask won’t be in the roster next year. Sorry girls.

  67. Hawk Says:

The Bucs are going to do everything they can to NOT play Trask. If he plays poorly, it will drastically raise the cost of moving up in the draft for a QB, as everyone will know for sure that the Bucs have NO starting QB.

  68. TB bolts Says:

Bucs have lost 5 of 6 but don’t you dare hope to see kyle trask! That would be silly! Were trying to win a super bowl gang! The completely competent coaching staff know what they’re doing obviously.

  69. optimisticbucsfan Says:

    Jason Licht is GARBAGE.

Put Trask in so we can see if he can play or not.

Baker is going to get $30 mill or more on the open market.

    Frankly, he isn’t worth poo.

Time for a real rebuild not this band-aid crap.

    Wake the F up people.

  70. realistic-optimistic Says:

Bowles was planning to draft Mayfield in 2018. Nobody was expecting him to go #1 overall, but the Browns did Browns things. Bowles didn’t want Darnold, he wanted Mayfield. That was the only thing on his mind this offseason. He HAD to sign him. He HAD to give him the starting job (regardless of the faux competition). He HAS to ride him for the entire season. Mayfield is Bowles’ mancrush, and he’s willing to lose his job over it.

  71. Craig Says:

It is, obviously, not yet time to call for Trask. I believe he has more realistic upside than Baker, but that is belief, not fact.

Baker played fairly well last Sunday. He did not play great, but he did play better than in most other games this season.

It is not his fault that he has to split reps with an imaginary running game. He still does not have much ability in sustaining drives.

If Baker has some big mistakes in the next two losses, which might be the next two weeks, I expect a major call to try Trask.

By then it will be pretty clear that Baker will not be extended. His one year offer will be done.

If Trask does not make a splash, then Wolford will finish the season, and next season with be a game where we know no one.

  72. K_bassuka Says:

Jay Glazer and everyone that thinks Barker Maybefield is a good QB shouldn’t be listen to when it comes to QBs.

  73. D-Rome Says:

The Bucs are going to do everything they can to NOT play Trask. If he plays poorly, it will drastically raise the cost of moving up in the draft for a QB, as everyone will know for sure that the Bucs have NO starting QB.

The free agency period happens before the draft. If the Bucs don’t extend Mayfield the rest of the NFL will know they have no starting QB heading into the draft.

  74. Red86 Says:

Meanwhile, they clamoring for us to draft a qb that cry on his mom’s shoulders and want an ownership stake in the team that draft him. Sound like unnecessary drama queen at a position that needs to be drama free.

But, somehow going with an unknown rookie who has no NFL experience is better than Trask who at least ran the second and third team in practice.

But somehow, we can’t see if Trask can get more than 2 tds a game, which everyone of these baker’s dozen scream and make excuses. 14 and 21 points doesn’t win games like the past nfl, unless the defense play great. Baker is average, while not seeing the open guy many times or missing them.

    (Not Baker fault film study)

(1st q 13:40 (off a turnover, which we suck this year putting 6 on the board on pot.[point off turnovers]) , 1st q 5:28 outside should CG 14 (open before the pocket crashed.), 2nd q 3:48 ME13 and other Wr slant, 3q 14:55 CG14 open on an out, while cab backpeddling, 3q 13:40 bad ball placement to Palmer, 3q 13:27 took forever to Otten. Otten ran out of space and lost all momentum to get first down. Took too long, 3q 11:00 CG 14, 3q 5:50 looked at Evan… nope, 3q 4:27 Otten…sigh. It Baker fault we’re in 3rd and 11 before this play, 4q 2:00 Cade extremely open, 4q 1:14 exhibit A why Baker isn’t the guy. Pump fake the guy open… happy feet on a 4 man rush, then bail out to an open wideout for a rushed 1st down. Uncle Rico. 🤦‍♂️, 2nd touchdown in the “4th quarter. “

Outplayed by a “rookie” with “no kicker.”

  75. Tbbucs3 Says:

See how often Baker Mayfield is escaping defenders? Those would turn into sacks if Kyle Trask who runs a 5.1 40 is playing….

If the Jets were smart they would’ve tried to sign Mayfield in the off-season cause he would’ve made them a contender once Rodgers went down….now their stuck with Zach Wilson who goes down everytime at the first sign of contact.

  76. ScottyMack Says:

If the real goal was to tank the season, they would have started Trask on day one and the Bucs would be lucky if they had one win at this point.

  77. realistic-optimistic Says:

Tbbucs3, how do you know this? Maybe he stands tall in the pocket and completes passes on time. Can’t be worse than the pee pee dance Mayfield does on every dropback. Happy feet is not a sign of a QB that reads the field well.

  78. Red86 Says:

Baker height hurt him and the team especially the 4th quarter scramble. 4 guy rushed, which mean 7 guys in coverage. That one wideout was open after the pump fake. It instead of arguing opinions, I’ll let you argue against the film. Stroud was more poised than Baker. Stroud got sacked more than Baker.

  79. Oz Len Says:

I would like to clear up one repeated misconception about Baker Mayfield, often repeated but never clarified. I’ll use the class mindmelder, “Mike S.’ “wording for context. The misleading statement is “Baker Mayfield is on his 4th team in 6 years “. Mayfield’s first 5-years were spent on the Cleveland Browns, as the starter. When that team bought a bag of beans named Shaun DeWatson, Mayfield was traded to the lowly Carolina Panthers. When that team decided to tank for Bryce, Mayfield was released, at his request so he could go to Rams. Mayfield bought his ticket to LA before he was released so you know this true. He then lead the greatest comeback ever on Thursday Night Football after only being with his new team 2 days. After making the rest of the Rams season watchable he declined to resign with the Rams though he was offered a job. He picked Tampa as his new Team where he has met or exceeded expectations on a team picked to win 2 games by most prognosticators. Hate him or love, you have to admit the show has been fun so far.

  80. Tbbucs3 Says:

“Happy feet is not a sign of a QB that reads the field well”

    Ever heard of Peyton Manning?

  81. optimisticbucsfan Says:

@ wyomingjoe and scottiemack – How the heck do you know that? You don’t you both have your OPINIONS but those are worthless. No one cares what some internet QBs think. Neither of you matter in the least. SMDH.

Pathetic fans. You people are the worst.

  82. Oneilbuc Says:

Baker Mayfield suck just amit it no other teams wanted Faker Mayfield but the bucs. Y’all need to stop acting like Baker Mayfield is a good quarterback!! No good quarterback wil be on their 4th team in 6 years lol 🤣🤣 .

  83. optimisticbucsfan Says:

Good lord…people aren’t asking for Trask to start for the next 10 years.

Give him some games and see what we have. That’s called “FOOTBALL”.

Baker is a midget and a total loser. He’ll never win anything in this league.

If he showed for Carolina or the Rams they would have kept him. SMDH.

    Gooberville, USA

  84. Couch Fan Says:

It’s not like we are winning or Mayfield is playing at an pro bowl level. We are losing with Mayfield playing average at best. Yes he is good at avoiding sacks. Thats really all he is good at. I dont get why anyone would be so opposed to seeing if another QB can help score more points and you know actually win more games than they lose.

  85. Buckeyebuckchuck Says:

Would think quarterback whispering Bruce evaluated Gabbert higher than Mr Trask, otherwise he would have dressed for games

  86. Bucfan37 Says:

Start Trask.. Mayfield stinks. Who cares if the midget Mayfield scrambles around in furtility before unleashing mostly uncatchable balls?

  87. Red86 Says:

Baker’s fans enjoy mediocre and subpar. This last game could’ve been baker’s first 3 TD game since the Saints game. The rest is 2 and 1 TDS.

  88. power sweep Says:

Erick Says: “This Power Sweep guy has to be related to Trask lol”

The ad hominem is the refuge of the feeble mind.

  89. power sweep Says:

Buckeyebuckchuck Says: “Would think quarterback whispering Bruce evaluated Gabbert higher than Mr Trask, otherwise he would have dressed for games.”

LOL. Not so. Brady won his Super Bowl with the Bucs with veteran Gabbert as his backup and wanted to maintain what worked as he continued his Super Bowl run. If you think Brady was open to a competition between Gabbert and Trask you’re a dunce. By the way, who did the Bucs keep – Gabbert or Trask? LOL.

  90. ScottyMack Says:

Who did the Bucs keep – Gabbert or Trask, you ask? Well, uhm … they kept the only QB that was under contract – a cheap one at that.

  91. Bucdolo Says:

Todd Bowles is a terrible coach. Very questionable decisions over the years. Terrible defensive scheme. No real heart. Body language always screams loser. Baker Mayfield is Todd Bowles personal best option because he doesn’t have to work as hard with Baker, Baker makes his job easier. He let some guys go over the years because they didn’t add “special teams value” then proceeded to suffer at said positions. Toilet Bowle is just a certified loser. Bruce Arians really is a great guy because this recommendation sucked. He didn’t even deserve it after calling that blitz.

  92. Mike Johnson Says:

It does not matter guys. Next year we will have completely new coaching and staffing. They will probably keep Baker and draft a rookie QB. Look, Trask will get another shot next year. But He’s not the guy. He might get a shot if Bowles is fired after losing the next 2 games. And that’s a high likelihood.

  93. power sweep Says:

Mike Johnson Says:”Trask will get another shot next year. But He’s not the guy.”

How do you know this? Did you know backup Brett Favre was the guy? Did you know undrafted Kurt Warner was the guy? Did you know Tom Brady was the guy? Did you know Brock Purdy was the guy? No, you didn’t, because you don’t know shït.

  94. Davenport Says:

So… the goal is to be just good enough to win a bad division and then get blown-out in the first round?

You used a 2nd on a guy that you keep on the roster and never play?

Someone needs to tell Bowles that its over and force him to play all the young guys.

Settling for mediocrity is not what championship organization will ever tolerate. Why are we doing that?

  95. Obvious Says:

    @Couchfan

Because C “FAN” you have to realize that someone like say “Wyoming joe” IS NOT a fan of the “TEAM”. Same applies for a few of these others. They are fans of “Mayfield” and Not fans like you and I of Our Team. You know, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers….

With that said, They Would Also Argue that in their dream world with their football hero Baked Mayfield, that Mayfield is indeed Far better than Tom Brady and Pat Mahomes. Haven’t they already been claiming that Baker Mayfield is better than Tom Brady? You Bet They Have! ~ DELUSIONAL ~

So you HAVE TO put that into perspective when trying to understand or reason with these fans of “Baker Mayfield”. They are “fringe”. NO MATTER WHAT or how you present your logic in what or how you might be able to Improve your “TEAM” the “Tampa Bay Buccaneers”, well to them the “TEAM” is quite irrelevant.

They ARE NOT actual fans of the TEAM. No Sir.

They are fans or Baker Mayfield ONLY have could care less what’s actually best for the team.

Btw, I’m not saying that Trask is the answer. BUT, I’d like to see what we’ve got there..

“FOR THE SAKE OF MY TEAM”

    GO BUCS!

  96. Bucsmarley Says:

Nothing against baker he’s a gutsy player that can come in and win a few games. Not saying by any means Trask would play like Cj stroud but we aren’t going anywhere this year and play Kyle to see if he’s capable or if he loses we improve our chances of drafting a qb. No confidence in bowels and who in their right mind thinks he could develop a qb. Todd is done and his stubbornness is evident. He knows it

  97. Nprbuc Says:

Not pushing Trask over BM right now,but if we lose Sunday , why not? At some point we need to see what he can or can not do. The absolute weakest excuse for keeping Trask benched is that the “ coaches” don’t think he is as good as or better than Mayfield. Sorry I have zero faith in that reasoning. These same coaches that think Vaughn is an NFL running back? Think that 2 runs by Vaughn and a pass to him at a critical time in the game is a game changer? The same coaches who consider Davis and Dean to be one of the best tandems in football? The same coaches that have been riding with Neal all season? The same coaches that just KNOW that if we run it enough, up the gut on first down, that big plays are going to result? The same coaches who refuse to adjust either in game or at the half to address what isn’t working? Examples go on forever. Those coaches?Nope. I’m not taking what ANY of these coaches have to say about who is good or who is bad. JTS? Hall? Tucker? White? Gotta give me some reason to not see what we have in Trask besides what these coaches feel.

  98. CrackerBall Says:

If we fall out of playoff contention – why would we NOT play him? It woudl be clear, at that point, that Baker Mayfield is not our future QB, and we can see what we have. Judging by his college career, he seems to rise up in game situations.

Let the man have a shot.

  99. deuceswild78 Says:

this season is on repeat cycle… we make the playoffs and get crushed at home by a wild card dallas team

  100. deuceswild78 Says:

the difference is most teams that go to the playoffs are building towards something… we are just hanging on in a trash division. time to reset

  101. JK Says:

The Question was posed by R.M.

    Lololololololololol

  102. JK Says:

Where ya at Rod Munch???? Glazer answers YOUR question and all of a sudden no comment on joebucsfan????
Probably still crying to your momma like Caleb over his answer?

  103. Rod Munch Says:

Did you cupcakes miss the part where he said, “I think”… He literally didn’t say the Bucs said any of that, he said “I think” the Bucs think.

Also, who said Trask will be better? He’ll probably suck.

The issue is Mayfield just had his best game of the season, and it was 250 yards and 2 TDs. That’s as good as it gets with him, and that’s the issue. He’s Mike Glennon 2.0, and I don’t need to see more of Mike Glennon.

  104. TB bolts Says:

Wyomingjoe dancing around saying I told ya so when his guy is 3-5. Ya bud you sure showed those Trask fans lmao

  105. Les Says:

Another no nothing comment .trask never even played with the starters in a real game and this moron wants to judge him ? PISS OFF !

  106. Optimist man Says:

Baker Mayfield deserves better than Tampa Bay. He’s shown that he’s good enough to be a starting QB in the NFL. Even Stevie Wonder can see that all Tampa Bay needs is to RUN THE FRIGGIN BALL. Hopefully Baker will end up where he’s appreciated. And by the way , I’m sick of hearing about Tom asshole Brady. He’s gone morons. Give it a break. Remember ,he didn’t do so damn good last year. Wake up morons before you let a competent and better than average QB slip through your greasy putrid fingers.MORONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  107. 5220Buc Says:

Glazer said “You’re still right there [in a division title race] in Tampa, absolutely”. After that any analysis, anything he says is worthless. Clearly has not watched the Bucs play. You could start anyone at QB for this team and it will not matter. The defense is brutal and will be the downfall of this team.

  108. JK Says:

^^^^^ winners ( all professional athletes are that) don’t think like losers. They are absolutely 💯 in the division race

  109. BucsFan2520 Says:

Only people that believe Trask should play are delusional Gator fans. The experts and insiders are all wrong about Trask according to them.

  110. Oneilbuc Says:

    Bucsgan250
You must be a FSU fan because I don’t care where a player comes from the fact of the matter is Baker Mayfield is not a staring quarterback . The guy is on his 4th team bro what more do you want to see from this guy ? The only thing I see fans like you is the name on back of the jersey matters more than the team. If Trask played like Baker Mayfield y’all would be killing him and every lost would be his fault!! If Baker plays bad in this game you will find a way to give him a pass lol 🤣🤣!!

  111. Oneilbuc Says:

    Optimistic
Lol 🤣🤣 I guess the other 3 teams didn’t deserve Trash Baker Mayfield either lol 🤣🤣!!

  112. JK Says:

Why listen to Jay Glazer? What does he know? Those calling for Trask know what they’re talking about. You can tell because they use emojis

  113. 5220Buc Says:

    JK
I would love to believe that (an honestly hope it happens), but with a defense that is getting worse, not better each game, the entire team would have to take a 180 to get enough wins to for a division title.

  114. Kidfloflo Says:

If the defense had half the heart of Baker, inspite of some of his short comings we would have won that game, as well as a few others!

  115. Lions Says:

I don’t trust what Bowles sees everyday in practice.

  116. tgoodwin Says:

get a grip people, BAKER WAS the SHINING LIGHT N HIS OFFENSE EVEN; wow; all of the media is talking about what a gr8 game Baker played and how he did it with pressure and is the ONLY BUCS QB to have a POSITIVE API rating; IN FACT, HE IS THE ONLY QB IN THE NFL TO HOLD A POSITIVE API NOW< HE BEATS OUT JOSH ALLEN BY 15POINTS AND MAHOMES BY 50 points and the other two who are rated in between ALLEN N MAHOMES!!!!!! GET a grip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  117. D1 Says:

    Power sweep

All those guys showed out in practice! Not one was considered a red shirt yr 2 like trask. Not one of those was considered a slow deliberate learner.

Also, they all got there via injuries to the starters.

They resigned gabbert because trask wasn’t challenging the back up .

Why not see what we have in woolford? Never see. Him with the starters in a game either! Everyone says he’s the smartest QB in the room. So why not!

Last, the idea that Baker sucks and will get 30million on the free agency market is insane !

  118. D1 Says:

    Oneil,

    Jameis Winston’s biggest fan.

    You’re done!

  119. D1 Says:

    Les,

Never played in a real game ? Then basically it’s just you want to see with your own eyes what coaches see everyday!

Unless you’re a coach, no one cares !

  120. Oneilbuc Says:

D1 . I’m a real bucs fan you see I don’t care what college a player comes from like most of yall do on here. Baker Mayfield is not a good quarterback and we all know Kyle Trask beat him out in training camp. Baker Mayfield is a waste of time rather you like or not. Lol 🤣🤣

  121. MelvinJunior Says:

Then, they’re buying Bowels ANOTHER Season. It will be THEIR rationale to bring him BACK for next season… They’ll say, we’ll give him time to see what he can do with Trask, while completely, ignoring HIS incompetent and unspeakable COACHING/Time-Management Decisions. Scares. Me. To. DEATH. I will NOT support this franchise for next season, IF that happens, 💯

  122. Bucfan37 Says:

So the conspiracy comes right from the top of the Bucs ownership. So Licht says nothing about the OB dilemma in many fans minds. Shhh shut up about that fans.
