Todd Bowles Updates Injured Players’ Status For Buffalo

October 25th, 2023

Bucs coach Todd Bowles.

So Bucs coach Todd Bowles had a very brief press conference this morning to update folks on who among the Bucs’ walking wounding may or may not play tomorrow night in Buffalo.

Matt Feiler: The Bucs’ starting left guard is out for tomorrow night. He suffered a knee injury against Atlanta and had not practiced all week. In Feiler’s place will be a hero of the 2020 postseason for the Bucs, Aaron Stinnie, who played right guard during the Super Bowl run. This will mark the first snap this year that the Bucs’ starting offensive line will not be on the field together.

Vita Vea: “Game time decision,” Bowles said. Vea has a groin. Last week he had a foot. Next week, who knows?

Chris Godwin: Bowles said Godwin is “fine.” So he will play tomorrow night.

Bowles was also asked about the weather, a night game in northeastern New York in late October. Bowles scoffed at the subject saying, “It’s not zero degrees. … We’re going to try to win the ballgame.”

Temperature at kickoff per AccuWeather.com is expected to be 65.

  1. Jack Clark Says:

The offensive line is not going to be able run block and our defensive line is not going to be able to stop the run or pressure the quarterback if vita vea isn’t there. Our secondary is going to have to play lights out because we can’t win games when teams score more than 20 points against us

  2. Pistol Pete Says:

“We’re going to try to win the ballgame.”
TRY…..man do I miss any sense of confidence from the HC/QB, how about we are going to win this game?

  3. Gofortheface30 Says:

It’s not like Buffalo is some juggernaut, they lost to the patriots for f sake, a team with zero offensive talent. But then again, the patriots have Bill Belichick, and….well…we don’t.

  4. Crickett Baker Says:

Can’t say “win” until the “coaches get better and the players get better”.

  5. Lombardi Lenny Says:

Maybe the cool temps will give Canales the chills again Thurs night lol

  6. deuceswild78 Says:

this is a get right game for buffalo… i am just hoping no injuries and at least we put up some sort of fight on offense

  7. StormyInFl Says:

I guesss the Kyle Trask fan club will have to put away their orange and blue pom poms for another week.

  8. StormyInFl Says:

As for Stinnie vs Feiler. I doubt it could be any worse, and quite honestly Stinnie played well for this team. Feiler might not get his job back.

  9. Bee Says:

How will this coach magically turn this thing around?

  10. HC Grover Says:

If we get clobbered it is all downhill from here.

  11. Erik The Viking Says:

Enjoy being 500 while we can. Come tomorrow night it will be sub 500 the rest of the way. Nothing like a good old fashioned Bowels movement to clean you out.

  12. TonySoprano Says:

Just like last year, it takes an injury for Bowles to replace an underperforming starter. And if Stinnie does well, Bowles will be sure to remind the fans how he is willing to make adjustments and hold players accountable.

  13. JD Still Says:

“Going to try to win”? In the words of that old time prognosticator , Yoda, “ There is no try, there is only do , or not do”! ( personally I prefer do).

  14. Fansince76 Says:

    Buc’s have some good luck!
The temps could be much much worse in late October upstate NY.

  15. SlyPirate Says:

    MISSING NACHO
If you’ve watched the games or looked at the stats, you’re aware Vea has made more impact plays than any (and every) defensive lineman this year. He’s been great. The Bucs lack a +310lbs DL outside of Vea. Having Nacho was a real luxury when Vea was out. The Bucs don’t have a good replacement. This loss will sting.

    Bills 38 Bucs 13

  16. Reed Says:

Can someone ask Canales/Bowles why they are not giving Sean Tucker a real chance @ RB? I think he needs the reps to show his total potential. Can’t really be worse than what we are doing at RB now.

  17. Parham Says:

I’m not opposed to resting Vea. Having said that glad Edmonds is off IR drastically needed change in the RB committee. Also changing of the Guard even because INJ needed to happen.

  18. Buccos Says:

VV will play and be a force as usual. Stinnie will do fine. This is basically a playoff game for us. If we don’t win we might not see .500 again this year. Bowles better coach like his job is on the line because it is

  19. Zoocomics Says:

@Pistol Pete…bro what world do you live in?… when have we EVER had a coach that had that much confidence that said we WILL win this game…or any game?

Hell, it’s so bad, I can’t remember EVER talking sh!t and saying “we got this game” or “we will win this game”… EVER. This team, at its best EVEN WITH BRADY, found ways to play down to some of the worst teams level. First start rookies somehow manage to kick off their pro careers against us and flourish.

I reserve that level of confidence to teams like the Mahomes’ Chiefs, Peyton Manning’s’ Colts/Broncos… and Brady’s Patriots. You’d have to go back 25 years in Bucs history to where we had that kind of confidence.

    ——–

Going to assume he’s not playing because he can’t pass block.

Also, he has played, and wasn’t very good. He might be a mild running upgrade to Vaughn, but if he can’t block, he’s not going to be on the field.

Which brings me back to Ronnie Brown – who was the only guy this preseason to show any sort of life at RB and was way more impressive than Tucker. If they want to sign someone, go bring in Ronnie.

  21. LVMYBUCS Says:

Damn it they still aint fire him yet!!!!!!!!!! I will keep checking.

  22. garbs65 Says:

Ronnie Brown is 41 years old….but hey, go get him!lol

  23. My Momma Says:

JD Still. It’s do, or do not, there is no try.

  24. JD Still Says:

    My momma says: LOL! OK.

  25. Rod Munch Says:

garbs65 – no, the white Ronnie Brown.

  26. David Says:

Baker is so afraid to lose his job to Trask he will play with messed up knee even if he is crippled just like he did with Browns. He doesn’t give damn about the team playing while he is injured as he played with bad shoulder in Cleveland to lose games.

  27. R.O. Says:

No one was whining about Coaching and Players when they beat the Saints. There ebbs and flows during a season. It is troubling when a team seems to get worse as the season goes on. The sky isnt falling because they lost to the Saints and it certainly wasnt Blue when the beat the Saints. Im of the thinking if we arent going to make it to the Super Bowl I am fine losing as many game as possible. Im also not for blowing up the coaching staff other than Goodwin.

This is dumb. It isn’t up to Baker. It’s up to the coaching and medical staff. If Bowles thought Baker was hurt badly enough where Trask gives them a better chance at winning, Trask would be in. He doesn’t, so he’s not.

  29. Mike Johnson Says:

Why is it I cannot see us winning this game? Shock the hell out of us Bucs.

  30. Bucfan37 Says:

Baker Baker he’s our man, if he can’t do it, nobody can. Yeah right.

  31. WyomingJoe Says:

David: Once again you show your ignorance when it comes to Baker. I don’t know why I waste my time trying to read your BS. I do agree that if Baker has an injury that limits his performance then the coaches should sit his butt down. However, we all know that Brady didn’t think very much of Trask, and I’m being polite saying that. That said, most of the guys on this site ARE NOT TRUE BUCS FANS.

  32. David Says:

It is up to the coaches/medical team to bench injured players but most players want to play no matter how bad they are injured. Baker is one of them. Unless there are clear medical indications. No one knows players conditions/status but themselves.

You Baker fans give it up. You are not the Bucs fans if you still following him from his Browns days. He is a disaster and will not change. He lost the game and was schooled by a back up qb last week even with plus two turnovers. Bucs has lost three games at home with terrible qb plays. Trask could easily do the same while gaining valuable experience for 2024 season. What is advantage of playing Baker at this point if Bucs can’t even the crappiest division in the world of sports let alone the first round of playoffs.

  33. David Says:

There is no upside to play Baker gong forward even if he has a fantastic game tomorrow. He is not a consistent qb which is a land mark of a NFL backup qb who already showed us why he has been rejected journeyman by three other teams.

Do you want to know how bad the Toilet Bowls/Baker are doing ? Atlanta the team with six consecutive years of losing record since 2017 is leading the division. LOL.

  34. BillyBucco Says:

Also, Atlanta who had lost 8 consecutive road games Atlanta.
This ship is heading into “Chartered “ waters.
    We have been here before.
Winston at least had the ability to WIN games.
Baker does NOT have the ability to WIN games.
He can NOT lose it, but NOTHING shows me he can put a team on his back.
That, combined with a terrible run game is the recipe for disaster.
Hopefully Carolina gets the #1 pick and we can trade for Williams.
Draft will be the next exciting thing for this team.
