The Bills Are Bad, Too.

October 22nd, 2023

Up next is Buffalo.

Bucs fans rightfully are melting down after today’s sad play on the field of The Licht House. But that’s sort of a good sign that people are losing their minds when their beloved Bucs have a .500 record after most analysts predicted a losing season.

It means the standard is high.

Joe likes the raised bar of Bucs fans. It’s certainly the way it should be.

Veteran head coach. Super Bowl-winning assistants. Pro Bowl-level weapons. Beastly talent on every level of the defense. Veteran quarteraback. This Bucs team wasn’t built to lose and fans know it.

So while Joe is still reeling from today’s loss to the sad Falcons and their crap quarterback, Joe is eagerly looking ahead to the Bucs heading to Buffalo on Thursday night to play the Bills.

It’s too easy to chalk Thursday’s game up as a loss to a high-profile Buffalo team with a franchise quarterback, but that wouldn’t be reality. The Bills lost to a heinous Patriots team today on the heels of their garbage showing against a bad Giants team last week (albeit a 14-9 win).

Joe watched that Giants-Bills game. It was a near miracle the Bills pulled it out, but those things often happen when you’re playing against Tyrod Taylor, the Giants’ backup QB.

It struck Joe how Bills QB Josh Allen almost seemed embarrassed by his offense during his postgame interview.

So yes, the Bills are a talented but poor team right now. The Bucs are catching them at a good time.

It’s a great opportunity for Todd Bowles to show he knows how to prevent his team from what every NFL coach desperately wants to avoid, the dreaded three-game losing streak that can suck the life right out of the club.

Here is an idea? Just putting out there to see what the responses are…I know the Pats beat the Bills today. That’s a very good win for them. I suspect that will not continue happening for remainder of season though. Regardless I suspect Belichick is still on the hotseat. We have Jason Licht here who is connected from his Patriot days. What if the opportunity arises for Bill to come here with Jason still as the GM???? But we need to have an good OC to go with Belichick. I bet the Glazers would be licking there chops if the opportunity rises to get Bill Belichick as your next Tampa Bay Buccaneers HC. Hopefully things improve for Bowles and the Bucs this season. If not though, this scenario I’ve presented could be interesting. Let’s Go Bucs!!!
Joe’s talked about this many times going back to the offseason.. Belichick isn’t quitting because he wants Don Shula’s record and Team Glazer loves big names — in addition to the Licht connection.–Joe

If the bills are a bad team then what are we ?

  3. A Bucs Fan Says:

BB signed a “lucrative long term/multi year deal with the Pats this offseason. He’s going no where. I’ll take a head coach that only cares about scoring points and adapting to his players strengths instead of force feeding a philosophy that doesn’t work.

  4. Miller5252 Says:

The Bills are on a different level of bad compared to the Bucs. Allen is an all pro QB that’s proven that won’t do stupid stuff like the QB for the Falcons. Bucs are horrible on prime time and I think this is the game the Bucs get throttled. If we stay within 14 points I’ll be surprised. It would be huge if the Bucs could pull it off though… just not much confidence after the last 2 performances.

  5. AL121976 Says:

The whole run game wins is Todd Bowles downfall, Bruce Arians proves that. We need an accurate QB that can think for himself w a cohesive OC.

  6. Popcorn Mike Says:

Joe that’s wishful thinking. The Bills will beat us 38 to 10. Atlanta had 3 or more turn overs, only scored 16 points and on the way to that win the Bucs looked like a expansion team

  7. Pelsbuc61 Says:

Someone floated the name Jim Harbaugh. All I know is that Bowles and Canales are not the answer. Licht needs to make a move before the trade deadline and get draft picks for the new staff.

  8. Dewey Selmon Says:

Not one media person is going to pick the Bucs to win on Thursday night.

  9. Mike S Says:

Sounds like a get-right game for the Bills.

  10. TonySoprano Says:

“Veteran head coach. Super Bowl-winning assistants. Pro Bowl-level weapons. Beastly talent on every level of the defense. Veteran quarteraback. This Bucs team wasn’t built to lose and fans know it.”

Sorry but gotta call BS. Most fans saw this as a losing/.500 season. And just because we have a veteran HC and QB doesn’t mean they’re worth a damn. Super Bowl assistants? I can’t name one Bucs assistant that is a hot commodity/worthy of a promotion.

  11. Colonel Angus Says:

Bucs are the get right team. Perfect opponent for the Bills to get right on. We will lose.

  12. Itzok Says:

Face it this bucs team isn’t good. They only win when they get huge turnover margin. That’s not a sustainable formula. Today the falcons tried to gift the bucs a win with three red zone turnovers. Yet the bucs can’t do it. Need the qb to put together a drive or big 3rd down conversion can’t, need the defense to hold a struggling qb with 45 sec on the clock can’t. Need a pass rush can’t find one without a blitz, Need to run the ball no f’in way, they should have put mr beast in wearing number 1 and he would have matched Whites rushing total. Scoring 15 points a game is pathetic. The Bill’s will beat us by 30 on Thursday

  13. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

    35-10 Bills. Nuff said!

  14. Bojim Says:

As much as I don’t like Belicheat I would have no problem with him coming here.

  15. Bobby Says:

Hey, A Buc Fan, you said Belichick signed a lucrative contract this offseason. How long have you been watching NFL football lol!!! Coach contracts don’t mean his job is secure with a team. Heck, The Glazers have fired how many coaches just over past 13 years and most while they were still under contract. Just saying Owners have no issue with firing a coach while still under contract. Well as it stands today Belichick is still the Patriots HC. But we will see if that is the so when the Monday following week 17 comes. Till then Let’s Go Bucs!! I’m rooting for you Todd Bowles!!

  16. No Mercy Says:

We just lost to the Failcons and can’t even score 20 points per game….. bills might be bad but we just lost two home games in a row one to the lions who got dismantled by the Ravens and one to the Failcons who didn’t even use their superstar RB.. 😆😆😆 even a win against the Bills won’t get me excited at this point

  17. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Joe, let me expound on your headline:
“The Bills Are Bad, Too………but not nearly as bad as the sorry as! Buccaneers!”

    No, they absolutely are not.

Losing a divisional game at home, even to a bad team, doesn’t mean you’re a bad team, in particular when you wiped the floor with the Dolphins a few weeks ago.

If you don’t think the Bills come out angry and destroy the Bucs, then I hope you’re right.

While the Bucs have their all-time best winning percentage vs the Bills, they’ve never won in Buffalo (somehow they’ve only played their twice in their entire history). Then again, Atlanta is 4th on that list, and look what happened today.

BTW, the Bills are only -7.5 vs the Bucs. That’s shockingly low – I thought it would be more like -12. That number will move up all week, unless there’s a major Bills injury I missed. So if you want action on this game, jump in now, because there’s no way it doesn’t end more like -9.

I can see that if the Bucs defense can get a score.

  20. David Says:

Start Trask against Texans with 10 days between two games If Bucs lose on Thursday night.

  21. Bucfan37 Says:

Oh boy the Bucs stink again, feels like old times.

  22. David Says:

Bucs should not wait to go down 4-9 before they bench Baker. He is 0-3 on last three games at home with one TD and three picks .

  23. David Says:

Bucs should not wait to go down 4-9 before they bench Baker.

  24. orlbucfan Says:

Canales get his stupid brain right with all his receivers, Bucs will win. Other blogs are talking about White and his receiving. Use the so-called running game as a decoy, you birdbrain!!!!!!!

  25. Voice of Truth Says:

The Bills are going to blow us out and embarrass Todd on national TV

The ship has sailed on the season at 3-3, we have all seen this movie before

3-9 likely on the way, as is a cleaning of the coaching staff and roster

Time to start Trask and see what we have

  26. Mike Johnson Says:

The Bills are bad? Come on man. I want to hear you saying that after our upcoming Thursday night loss in Buffalo..

  27. Saskbucs Says:

I generally agree with the sentiment here that Bucs will be outclassed on Thursday but… the Bills have suffered some big losses. Tredavious White, Matt Milano, Daquan Jones all starters on IR for them. 3 of their best players from all 3 levels of the D. Can you imagine the Bucs right now without Davis (meh), David and Vea!?

Bucs gotta grab their nuts and stop this skid. Maybe they can’t but I’m interested in the points considering they have been better on the road. Gotta get back to shutting down the run, contain Allen and Diggs. Simple right.

  28. WTF? Says:

Not as bad as the Bucs. And it’ll be seen on national tv Thursday.

  29. unbelievable Says:

The problem is usually after the Bills have a “bad game”, they come out the next week and score 40+ points

Does anyone really think the defense we see today would be able stop the Bills for even a single drive? I sure don’t.

Bucs have to clean up A TON to even have a remote chance at winning on Thursday.

  30. D Cone Says:

Bucs might be more prepared for a QB that they respect.

  31. unbelievable Says:

“Beastly talent on every level of the defense.”

The problem is 3 beats + 8 scrubs does not make a beastly defense.

  32. SlyPirate Says:

    ABOUT TO GET WORSE
The offense will continue its ineptitude. The defense will start to give up. Bills win by 3-4 scores. After the game the coaches will lose the locker room. This is about to get worse. Bucs might win 1-2 more games.

  33. Tye Says:

‘Bills are bad’…. fools no one!
They’re no where near as bad as the Falcons…
Falcons kept giving the ball away and still won!

  34. BucsFan81 Says:

Pretty sure the Bills will watch the tape of us getting destroyed by the lions and a joke of a team falcons and realize the Bucs can’t run at all. So all they have to do is double Evans all game. No one on this offense is really scaring anyone and they can’t score with some of these idiot plays. It’s like Leftwhich all over again. Keep running up the middle for no gain or a loss. I am sure on the 20th time it might work.

That’s good info, but I have zero confidence that a Bowles lead team can ever take advantage of another team offensively.

Even if the other team was made up of exclusively 400lb Sumo wrestlers, even at corner and safety, Bowles would demand we just run it up the middle and win the game by controlling the clock.

Bowles, like Mayfield, has had many years of getting second chances, and they are who they are. Bowles is an elite DC and a terrible HC. Mayfield is short backup QB. I don’t trust that combo to do anything well when the pressure is on.

  36. FortMyersDave Says:

Bills will probably be favored by 9 or 9.5 as soon as money pours in on them, it could go through 10. The interesting wager will be the over/under as the only way the over will be had is if the Bucs manage to score some points. Bowels is not a good coach and some may point to the Bucs success last year in Munich, on Sunday night in Dallas and XMas night in AZ as well as the MNF miracle against the Aints but that was mostly Tom Brady. I predict the Bucs lose 27-6 or something like that and hopefully Licht gets an RB before trade deadline though that may not help but perhaps benching some of the dead weight could send a message.

I was shocked when I saw the line was only Bucs +7.5, I honestly thought it would be +12. I agree, by gametime it will be more like +9.5 or +10.

  38. Darin Says:

I’d take tyrod taylor over Baker every week. Especially next week. The Bucs got their asses whooped today by Desmond Ridder and an average defense. The bills are gonna blow em up n out. Not sure what games you are watching. BUCS won the turnover battle, two being goal line, and still lost. That’s Bollocks. Blowouts are.comijg if they lose the turnover battle. Blowes bowles

  39. PowerOfPewter Says:

The Bucs can’t run the ball, and the Defense is gassed by the 4th quarter. I am pretty sure the Bills coaching staff is looking at the tapes and looking forward to a Thursday night home game to right their ship.
OTOH, Buc’s coaches have a lot of issues to fix in 3 days before going on the road on national TV.

Actually the Falcons have a pretty good defense. But you’re correct on Ridder, he’s not a good QB, and has a truly atrocious hairline for someone who is just 24. My godness, get a hair transplant or shave your head.

  41. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

This is likely to be bulletin board material for Buffalo as if they aren’t going to ornery already

  42. Pewter Power Says:

The Bucs are catching them at a good time.

Sorry Joe you’re living in some fantasy world. ATLANTA IS BAD TOO. Yet they are in first place of this division.

You’re giving the Bucs way too much credit.

  43. PewterStiffArm Says:

Sorry guys I have read this novel way too many times. We will not catch the Bills at the right time. They will bounce back (as much as I hate saying this). The Bucs will loose in Orchard Park and sweat their way down to Houston. Does anybody believe that we can win any of these away games when we can’t win at home? Third and one, in the shotgun and you hand it off to a putrid running back? Please spare me. As much as I love my team I have read many chapters incorporating this very same story.

  44. JN Says:

The Bills will roll Thursday. So if the Bills are bad what does that make the Bucs?
