Statistically, The Game Was Really One-Sided

October 1st, 2023

Catches game-winner.

Joe looked at “The Book.” And it is pretty interesting.

“The Book,” or official NFL gamebook, is the NFL’s giant official box score of sorts for a game. It includes all kinds of basic stats from offensive yards to quarterback hits.

There, Joe noticed this gem to demonstrate how the Bucs took care of business in New Orleans this afternoon.

The Bucs ran for 140 yards. Yet the slimy Saints’ total net yards was 197.

Folks, when a team is able to do that, it has a great chance of winning.

So what was the turning point? For Joe it came late in the first half. It appeared the Bucs were about to take a 14-3 lead when Baker Mayfield appeared to force a throw to Chris Godwin in the corner of the end zone and it was picked by slimy Saints cornerback Isaac Yiadom.

On the very first play after the interception, Antoine Winfield — who had a crazy good game — and Greg Gaines blasted New Orleans fullback Adam Prentice, forcing a fumble which was recovered by Winfield.

Two plays later, Mayfield threw to rookie Trey Palmer who fought free along the right sideline of the end zone and kept control to take that 14-3 lead.

The Bucs seemingly had control the rest of the way.

It also helped that the defense kept the slimy Saints out of the end zone. The Bucs only allowed three field goals. Pat Mahomes knows something about that, doesn’t he?

Maybe it is just Joe, but this win over the slimy Saints was so damn satisfying.

Maybe it was because it was in New Orleans? Maybe because it shut up the loud Saints fans? Maybe it was cool to see (and hear) the slimy Saints fans turn on their team at halftime?

Either way the Bucs are 3-1 entering the bye. If anyone expected this to happen, please Twitter Joe a copy of your betting ticket from Vegas.

It’s going to be a helluva Victory Monday.

    Sad day in Port Fourchon…HAHAHAH

Joe get another beef debris for ME, and a cold one!

Maybe it was because Todd Bowles fixed the run blocking? 😝

  4. HC Grover Says:

    The Bowles Curse got em.

Good to see Palmer targeted and happy for him that he got a TD. He’s from the NOLA area so I’m sure he had family there.

Lots of great effort out there for the Bucs, a great bounce back from the Iggles game. They really appeared to learn something from the Iggles game and came out today with a lot of intensity and focus by the whole team.

    Shut down Olave….1 catch
Shut down Hill 4 catches for 10 yards rushing
Contained Kamara 13 catches for 33 yards

We had a slew of penalties….but still overcame them to win convincingly.

Camarda had a bad day 4 punts for 47.5 average with 2 inside the 20…
Hard to kick it 65 yards from their 45 yard line….(sarcasm)

Satisfying is the word I’ve been repeating with this win! TEAM WIN LIKE WE WE ONLY TALK ABOUT! Teams take on the personality of their QB..I’m good with that!! Dirty South Baker here to make it his!!

  8. Tye Says:

    Let’s address one problem…
The Bucs NEED more discipline because that many penalties is ridiculous!
BUT they owned the Saints from the jump… Great to see the Bucs bounce back after being beat by a good Eagles team and doing it against a division thorn in their side!

  9. David Says:

It was very satisfying to see the defense bend but not break.
The main thing, though, it was satisfying to see D & O lines play very well.
Obviously, the O line has a ways to go but much better than last week and against a very good New Orleans D.

Maybe the most satisfying part was sealing the deal with a late INT against the INT master himself

You know if you look at the rest of the Bucs schedule, there’s only two guaranteed loses, @Bills @49ers.

Next week is also really tough, but not because Detroit is good, it’s just not a game the Bucs ever win. If it was on the road, I’d bet my house on the Bucs winning, but it’s like how the Bucs always beat Chicago at home, and always lose on the road – with Detroit it’s reversed, so don’t panic if they don’t look good next week, it’s just the way things are.

The other likely loss based on history is @Houston – Bucs have never won in that stadium, and only 1-4 vs Texans all time. But that’s a much smaller sample size.

The big thing will be if the Bucs can take care of business in the NFC South.

Ridder in Atlanta is such an awful QB, it’s only a matter of time before they go to Taylor Heinicke, which stinks, since he’s 100x better at QB. No idea why the Falcons don’t make the switch, it’s not like Ridder is a 1st rounder or anything. So they’re going to be really tough once they finally make the switch at QB.

The Panthers collapsed today, and Young has not looked good at all. Would be fantastic if he’s a bust and the Panthers are stuck with him for a few years, but really early to start writing guys off.

Put 100 on the over for total wins and 100 on division winner back in early July. Not looking so stupid now. Suck it Peter King!

Yesterday Joe went to Parkway Bakery and Tavern for a beef debris po boy. Ho-lay shiite that was good. 🙂

    Hey Joe!

If you look back you can see that I have put a wager on the Bucs to win more than 5.5 games and also win the South.

That’s the only thing that gives me hope, since a bad Lions team win this next game 100 out of 100 times. When the Lions are the better team is such a rare sight, the outcome is less certain. Again, if the game was on the road, it would be completely different.

It’s like how a bad Bucs team beats the Eagles 100 out of 100 times in Tampa. If the Bucs had won that game, that would have meant they were on the way to a 5-12 season, so it’s a good thing they lost, since it mean the future was not yet written.

  18. HC Grover Says:

    maybe….nope…It was Winfield

  19. stpetebucfan Says:

No Joe it’s not just you. That horrid hit on Baker where the guy hit him high while he was already tackled low just reeks of Saints FB. And Payton is not around to place bounties but these jerks seem to do it for free. I could just see some Buc luck there with an ACL popping in Baker’s knee…amazing he didn’t get hurt.

And speaking of satisfaction how sweet was it to see jerk Payton get pounded for 70 last week?

  20. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

I was expecting 4-0 so I’m only a little disappointed.
