Kacy Rodgers On Calijah Kancey: “The Guy Is A Special Player”

October 20th, 2023

Raves about rookie tackle.

Bucs first-round pick defensive tackle Calijah Kancey played his first (mostly) full game on Sunday, logging 40 snaps.

No less an authority than NextGen Stats claims Kancey’s stats represented one of the best games for a rookie defensive tackle in years.

And to think Kancey is green as St. Augustine grass.

Bucs defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers isn’t one to throw out hyperbolic platitudes about rookies, especially guys who saw their first real action in the fifth game of the year. But Rodgers raved about his young pupil.

Except Rodgers made sure to point out Kancey made one very bad play.

“You know, it was pretty good except for that first run that came through,” Rodgers said. “That was him too, but otherwise it was a joy to have him back out there.

“He kind of showed us what he had been showing us all [training] camp. The guy is a special player in some ways.”

Joe is stoked at the thought of Vita Vea and Kancey on the field together. Vea is brute force. Kancey is greased lightning.

It’s dangerous to single-block Kancey. It’s lethal to single-block Vea. If you double one of the two, the other ought to have a helluva chance to do damage.

Pick your poison, Dixie Chicks.

If Logan Hall can up his game, then we’ll a scary group of young defensive linemen for the next decade.

We’ve invested heavily in our Dline……hope it pays off.

Let’s also hope Vita’s foot injury is minor.

    I love it man.

    Prioritize trench warfare always.

By end of year we’ll see how we feel about QB, but we definitely could use upgrades at C & RB with priority picks.

I don’t care who you are that’s funny

Any word about Vea’s foot injury that held him out of practice yesterday?

Hey Joe, can you ask our edge rushers if they’re going to take the day off this Sunday again? Thanks

The Bucs need Nelson back on the field.

For us to get back to tge super bowl, we have to keep Bowles to bring in mire defensive talent

    A starting DT at #19?

    A miracle!

    Go Bucs!

All of this is useless if the offense can’t score. Sorry to be the Debbie downer here.

I just need to see Kancey stop the run a bit more, and how he looks in pursuit. He looks disruptive so far. 94 does flash when he is in there. He has the type of game that makes everyone around him better. Hope he continues to pan out.

I’m not worried about the interior it’s the edges we need more pressure from. 🤣Statistically Insignificant Reader Says:

You should never expect much from a rookie DT, so anything the Bucs get is a bonus. However, next year, with those two, it should be really special, if they can both stay healthy.

Marcus Jones got 13 sacks playing alongside Sapp in 2000.

Get interior pressure, and it opens up even mediocre talent to get numbers from the edge.

    Nailed it again Joe!

Lets make them pay for doubling either one! That combo on the field together is gonna free up LBs and others to make plays as well.

    Go Bucs!
