“Get That Fuc*’n Weight Up”

September 12th, 2023

Mic’d up on the stiffarm!

Joe watched this great video released by the Buccaneers and wondered what would happen if Rachaad White ran with this kind of fire when he took handoffs.

It’s Baker Mayfield executing a run-option play in the fourth quarter against the Vikings on Sunday. Mayfield kept the rock and ran right to take on Minnesota cornerback Byron Murphy. Out came the stiffarm and Murphy got dragged and taken to the turf during and after a five-yard gain.

The official Bucs’ video shares the audio, which has Mayfield barking at Murphy. “Get that fuc*’n weight up, little boy. Get that fuc*’n weight up.”

Fun, fun stuff. There’s not much more Joe can say on that.

As for Joe’s opening shot here on White, man, Joe just isn’t seeing the early burst from White that seemingly would help his struggling run game.

Great video. I hope Trask is taking notes.

Baker’s fire and competitiveness is a great example for a young QB.

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Now, that’s some trash talk……You go, Baker!!!

  3. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Just maybe, Mayfield is starting to grow on me.

  4. Bucsfanman Says:

White is stutter-stepping the moment he gets the ball. I don’t know why but it’s costing him yardage. Stop dancing, put your foot in the ground and GO!!!

I love the smack talk, especially by the QB. If for no other reason Buc fans, THIS is why you should be more optimistic. Baker is a gamer!

  5. K_bassuka Says:

That was a great run, hope he continues to build on the momentum! Let’s go Bucs!

  6. Citrus County Says:

Perhaps he does become our Drew Brees.

  7. Lt. Dan Says:

White’s style reminds me of Leveon Bell but without the results. Two words: Sean Tucker.

baker fuc*field……….winning buc fans over, one fuc* at a time

  10. RagingBrisket Says:

Citrus County…Drew Brees??? Settle down with all that. No matter what Mayfield does he is never going to be like a Drew Brees. That’s just silly talk.

Two more words – Ronnie Brown. I liked what I saw there, too. More than either Edmunds or Vaughn.

  12. Hodad Says:

Baker sure played better then Josh Winston, I mean Allen did for the Bills last night. The Jets, and Bucs also showed there’s more then one way to win a ball game with what is precieved to be a weak QB. Joe, still think turnovers don’t matter?

  13. Mr. Editor Says:

I like how Mayfield protected the ball when the defender was trying to punch it out. Good work! We love angry runs!

  14. Guzzie55 Says:

Baker Mayfield Week 1 GMF Angry Runs winner LETS GO!!!!

  15. pewter941 Says:

Love the enthusiasm, that being said, please start protecting yourself Baker.

  16. BA’s Red Pen Says:

    LFG

  17. SickofLosing Says:

White just doesn’t run hard. Too busy dancing instead of just getting what you can when needed. Run hard son!

  18. Morgus the Magnificient Says:

White looked like a starter in the first preseason game. Horrible.

  19. Surfslowson Says:

@Joe did you see what Jordan Whitehead did for the Jets last night? 3 Interceptions on Josh Allen, man I wish we could have found a way to keep him.

  20. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

It’s what I’ve been worried about since last year. White is just slow. His first step is reminiscent of Fournette’s, that is to say there isn’t one. About the only thing Leftwich did right last year was to reduce the handoffs to Fournette and start throwing to him more so that he has movement already. Will have to do the same with White. Unless, that is, we want to go to the I formation.

  21. DailyRich Says:

It seems like none of our backs have any kind of burst to the hole.

  22. Glass Half Full Guy Says:

Wonder how many “Get that fu*k’n weight up!” signs and shirts we’ll see in the stands for the home opener. Lol

I agree on the R. White assessments. Definitely too hesitant and not showing much burst. I have no issue with a back being “patient” so he can see a hole, but not like this. It was a bold (maybe even cocky?) move to have #1 stitched to his jersey. Hopefully it’s just attached with velcro if he doesn’t step it up.

Hopefully once the o-line starts to gel he’ll be able to either see or have confidence that a hole will be where it’s supposed to be and he can just take the ball and hit it.

I’m NOT blaming the line. Even Tiki said White looked hesitant. Just saying the line will play a part (hopefully).

The Cincy line was manhandled by CLE all day Sunday. They had no running game to speak of with a very good back in Mixon and Burrow only threw for 82 yards. If only Cincy had a younger, more athletic QB, right? Lol

As for ppl calling Mayfield “check down Charlie”, “checking down” was Peyton Manning’s advice for Josh Allen at halftime last night rather than playing “hero ball”. I’m thinking he knows more about playing the position than anyone here. Pretty sure “checking down” is a sign the QB has progressed through his reads or needs to get it out quick to his “hot read”. I’m cool with that if the Sheriff is.

  23. LVMYBUCS Says:

Bucs got to do something about Evans, fix his contract or trade him he looks so uninterested in playing.

  24. Bojim Says:

Great clip. Leads by example. One game but looking good.

  25. BillyBucco Says:

Mike dropping a would be TD pass is not thee way to get paid LVMYBUCS.

  26. Boss Says:

    I gotta admit, I like BM’s grit!

agree on white as well. I’ve held out high hopes, but the #2 RB looked better, more decisive and better vision of the field. White almost looks like a beefy CB back there. If he’s not gonna run like a bolling ball he needs to see holes and hit them.

  27. Boss Says:

ME dropped not one, but 2 TD passes!

I could care less about his 1k season. He always drops balls early to mid game when we could get an early leg up. He only warms up and mostly sticks to run 10 yards and turn around.

  28. garro Says:

    The May train!

    Go Bucs!

  29. DS Says:

    White did look very slow

  30. DS Says:

And the carry he had for 6 yards he couldn’t break a tackle from one guy he might run too high

  31. tbswarm Says:

    Angry Run winner week 1!

  32. MrMan Says:

I really feel like for all his faults, RoJo was the last true pound the rock RB the Bucs had. He was like a freight train every time he got the ball, all gas even if his vision wasn’t good.

  33. Durango 95 Says:

Dude is locked-in and determined. Gotta love it.

  34. JD Still Says:

It’s comments like that that every defensive coach we are going to ,or might face , loves! Good locker room billboard material so every defensive player in the league will be dreaming about having their photo taken , standing over a laid out Mayfield with the caption “ get that weight up boy!” and they are also thankful for the info on how their signals are being stolen, not smart.

  35. Fred McNeil Says:

Tucker seems to have a little more fight in him than White.

  36. Biff Barker Says:

Snap out of it. White is not a #1 RB. He’s an H back

  37. LJ's Daddy Says:

    Shake N’ Baker…
    …and I helped!

  38. MadMax Says:

Thats another reason i wanted him….he’s got that ability to fire you up plus talk that chit….Brady did that too.

  39. m milligan Says:

I agree on those ME drops, not sure what happened on the first one but 1 on 1 and a better than 50% ball.
I commented last night, Bucs got screwed on schedule vs everyone else in division. I mean Bills (don’t know now), Eagles, 49ers, all potential SB teams.
Nobody else plays anything nearly as difficult. Glad Atlanta has Jets in NY towards end of season.

  40. Erik Hesson - Fine Artist and Founder of UniqueModernArt.com Says:

…. At least we had this advantage for one solid game. SMH

SO GLAD WE TALKED ABOUT THIS PUBLICLY, SO WE’LL NEVER BE ABLE TO DO IT AGAIN.

LOL, IT’S A BUCS LIFE. WTF

  41. Erik Hesson - Fine Artist and Founder of UniqueModernArt.com Says:

*wrong thread… Lol, I teleported to this article somehow, my bad

  42. bucsfaninOregon Says:

I had planned on ripping the running attack two days after the win but I see you guys are already in it. With such a weak position it’s lucky if we win at all. White is not the answer- -don’t know who would be better.

  43. unbelievable Says:

Notice how he also secured the ball and even moved it back as the defender reached to punch it out, all while delivering a devastating stiff arm? Absolutely beautiful to see.

@MrMan – I agree as a pure runner, RoJo was the best we’ve had in a while. He got a really raw deal between Koetter and some of Arians regime. That said, he also was clearly mentally weak, which I’m sure played a part in his reduced role. Especially under someone like Arians.

@m Milligan- they didn’t get screwed, that’s how it works. 1st place division winner plays other 1st place division winners. Wanna be the best? You gotta beat the best…

  44. cmurda Says:

You’re winning me over fast Baker. Who doesn’t love that kind of swagger?

  45. Citrus County Says:

hey ragin’ biscuit… get out of your baggy shorts, take a shower and watch as Mr. Mayfield proves you wrong all season long.

  46. garro Says:

Kinda ironic that our QB ran tougher than White did.

    Go Bucs!

  47. Fred Says:

It’s ONE game. Let’s not get too excited until we see a real trend.
