Todd Bowles Didn’t Seem Excited About Bucs’ Pass Rush

August 17th, 2023

Todd Bowles

Maybe it was Todd Bowles being low-key. Maybe it was Bowles not getting excited because he wanted to keep his defense focused. Maybe Bowles realizes it’s still the middle of August.

Or, it could be as simple as Bowles knowing the Jets’ offensive line is pure trash.

Either way, the Bucs’ head coach had his poker face on yesterday when asked after the royal rumble scrimmage against the Jets in New Jerse about how the Tampa Bay pass rush hounded Jets quarterbacks all morning.

“We got some looks,” Bowles deadpanned as if hiding a straight flush. “I thought we got back there some. I thought we were overall in the backfield.”

Let’s not get too excited there, Todd.

Long-time Jets beat guy Rich Cimini of BSPN X’ed that he had counted six sacks by the Bucs defense.

That’s just a beautiful thing.

JTS and Shaq were living in the backfield.

Just wait until CK and Yaya get going.

I said the same thing earlier.
There was some around 32 minute live look in of the practice by 3 Jets guys you can probably still find.
It showed Vita Vea going against the Center who looked like he was on skates.
These guys commented on him being the biggest D Lineman in the NFL.
That plus the day we had made me think with CK, they could legit wreck some teams on the pass rush.
Throw in fights from LVD of all people and these guys are straight up pissed about the National narrative that they will suck.

Bowels doesn’t get “excited” about anything.

Joe … ‘Or, it could be as simple as Bowles knowing the Jets’ offensive line is pure trash.’

Music to my ears. Not a big Jets’ fan, especially after they screwed over the Bucs cancelling the 2nd joint practice.

  5. Lowest Common Denominator Says:

The Jets will likely have a below average O-line and they were playing mostly backups today because they have guys recovering from injuries.

  6. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

I’m sure Karen Rodgers will love his OL! Can’t wait for him to start crying.

  7. A Bucs Fan Says:

Yeah on the surface it was really exciting but when you dig in and realize the Jets oline was missing three starters and played a rookie in a new position for the first time the Bucs should have dominated yesterday.

And TBBF doesn’t get excited about Bowles.

    Whatever. Prove it on Sundays

Whatever Bowles says usually means the opposite.

  11. Craig Says:

Only a half a step short so far this season is how I read it.

Last season they were a full step away, so that is improvement, but there is still a half step.

Maybe Kancey’s juice will compensate for the half a step. I actually hope so.

Listening to Sirius XM NFL show this morning on the opening drive show, they discussed the Jets offensive line, only giving the Bucs pass rush minimal credit because the Jets have only 2/5 of their expected line practicing due to injuries, 2 first rounders not practicing and the other Mekhi Becton moving to left. However they did say that Aaron Rogers was frustrated. Also there has been times when Bucs play against back ups as if they are first teamers, kind of like Steelers 2nd team defensive line against our presumed starters on the right side

  13. Buccos Says:

Watch Green Bay have a stout line this year while Karen Rodgers takes a beating in NY

  14. Wild Bill Says:

I would not put much weight on joint practices. Let’s see how the next game plays out.

This article should be titled, “Bowles being Bowles”

Or, Bowles is being his normal, emotionless self.
