Logan Hall Has Been Located

August 21st, 2023

Bucs DL Logan Hall.

Joe thinks Logan Hall has been found. At least, that’s what Bucs coach Todd Bowles said yesterday, in so many words.

Joe last week had been wondering where has Logan Hall been. The second-round pick last year has been uncomfortably quiet in training camp — when is the last time you heard he made a play? — and in preseason games, that silence has carried over.

No, Hall is doing fine, Bowles said. It’s just that he’s focused on stopping the run. He bulked up in the offseason and is learning to play inside.

“He’s really been getting comfortable in the system,” Bowles said. “Obviously, he’s been a lot stouter in the run game. It was something he had to learn last year, so this is really his first time starting.

“He needs some reps. He needs a lot of reps that way, so he’s been playing and starting off the games most of the time. I like where he’s at.”

This doesn’t sound good to Joe. It almost seems as if Hall is going through a second rookie season. One would hope a high second-round draft pick wouldn’t “need reps” on the cusp of his second season.

Both NFL official gamebooks for the Steelers preseason game and the Jets preseason game have Hall listed as starting. However, Hall never registered one statistic in either game. Not a tackle, not an assist, not a quarterback pressure or hit, nothing. Goose egg. Both games. Hall didn’t play a lot of snaps, however.

It would be nice if Bucs fans could see Hall make plays, or at least, hear an announcer mention his name other than committing a penalty.

Hey Joe. Great Coverage of the games! Especially for us Way up here. I think it might be a time for a poll of who Bucs fans think should start.
    Keep up the great coverage!

  2. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

If that was improving in the run game…wow. Low bar.

  3. Derek Says:

    Horrible draft pick. He’s JAG

  4. firethecannons Says:

agree with joe this sounds like he is a project, nothing more

  5. Joe Says:

    SB:

Thanks for the kind words. Much appreciated!

  6. Proudbucsfan Says:

Light can hit on 3rd and 4th round pics every year but boy his record with second rd pics has been the worst. I really don’t have optimism that Hall is going to be playing in this league very much longer. I would love to be wrong.

  7. RagingBrisket Says:

To be fair he was located ending Ryan Jenson’s career. I believe that is the last time anyone saw him have an impact…

  8. Fred McNeil Says:

Licht has done pretty well on second rounders.

  9. ATLBuc Says:

I think this will be a breakout year for Hall. Double teams on Vea and probably Kancey will leave him in a lot of one on one situations and I expect him to thrive

  10. Defense Rules Says:

Good to hear that Bowles hasn’t given up on the young man like so many fans & media have. I admittedly didn’t like drafting him with our top pick last year because I felt that he was too light for what we were asking him to do (replace Suh inside?), but now that he’s put on some beef & apparently gotten stronger, he MIGHT be able to play inside (like Will Gholston has transitioned by beefing up?). I still however see Hall more as a DE in a 4-3 defense, but I’ll give Todd Bowles the credit he deserves … he knows a LOT more about this than I do. Hopefully he can get Logan headed in the right direction.

  11. Capt.Tim Says:

So Bowles said hes doing fine.
Wouldnt it be great if Bowles said sucks.
Said it the dwy they drafted him- hes a tweener.
We have invested a lot of assets, on useless Dlineman
JTS gets pushed around easily in every game
As I christened hin before- Hall is the invisible man
And now we drafted a tiny DE.

Imagine if we had drafted 3 useable Dlinemen.
A damn waste, and a damn shame

  12. garro Says:

Yeah yeah Yeah …He also thinks D white is his best player.

Stop it Todd you have lost all credibility.

    Go Bucs!

  13. Capt.Tim Says:

    Defense rules.
Have you EVER heard a head coach say a player sucks- and cant play?
    No, you havent. Ever.
Because he is a 2nd round pick- Bowles will defend him- right up until they cut him.

  14. Fansince76 Says:

Joe, you note that fans don’t like Luke Goedeke which is warranted however
for me, Hall is my least favorite starter who right now i think sucks and is
a liability on the D line. Hope he somehow gets better!

  15. Joe in Michigan Says:

I have no idea if Hall will or won’t be good…I do know that he’s playing Will Gholston’s spot, Gholston didn’t show up much on the stat sheet either, but was a good role player. If Hall can be like Big Will with a little more pass rush, that’d be good.

  16. BucU Says:

Bowles better be right about these invisible guys. His job depends on it.

  17. TampaBayBucsFanSince1976 Says:

Licht whiffed on this one and keeping dead weight around hurts the team as a whole.

  18. 757Buc’em Says:

Only thing Hall has done since becoming a buc is hurt Ryan Jensen 🤦🏾‍♂️

  19. adam from ny Says:

if 2 key linemen are progressing towards bust status, the DL has some realtime issues…

it’s a wait and see thing this year

  20. Frank Pillow Says:

Hall is just a rotational dude. A dude with no position. He doesn’t flash. He isn’t stout or strong.

  21. Buc4evr Says:

He is not a starter and never will be. Like JTS he is a waste of roster space. Bowles is just doing the coach speak thing. He knows Hall is basically worthy .

  22. Buc4evr Says:

    Meant to say worthless.

  23. Beej Says:

“Have you EVER heard a head coach say a player sucks- and cant play?”

That’s pretty much what Sean McVay said about Jared Goff after that Superbowl loss

  24. Pewter Power Says:

Sometimes it’s just obvious when a coach is lying. Even if were true That’s not talk for a guy who you’re counting on to play a big role. I sounds like exactly what you’d say about a rookie. Man this was a VH-3 type whiff

  25. Irishmist Says:

Hall, in the hall, with the wrench.

  26. Usfbuc Says:

    Irishmist, that’s good

  27. optimisticbucsfan Says:

Licht is so overrated as a GM

    What his won/lost % – hint – really bad.

Brady is the only reason he still has a job but let’s be real here…without Brady…Licht would have been fired long ago.

He is hanging on by a thread.

  28. Mike Says:

It’s a long season. Give the guy some time to develop.

  29. Paul Ricci Says:

Im sorry, i don’t believe Todd Bowles

  30. Eckwood Says:

I did see some Hall talent and effort flashes early last season , then very little second half of the season ……. Sounds like forced position and coaching which seldom turns out with the player reaching his potential. Kinda sounds like you may be better doing that but roster wise we need you doing this

  31. Marine Buc Says:

Logan Hall plays too high – it doesn’t help he is 6’6″ – still a little too lanky and weak to play inside and too slow and not athletic enough to play outside.

I’m not giving up on him yet but he seems like a bit of a tweener to me.

There are other D-lineman with similar builds who have succeeded in the NFL – Calais Campbell comes to mind – but Hall needs to get a little thicker and stronger if he is going to play as an inside guy in the NFL.

  32. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Need to get these guys from Big Time Conferences that play other big time NFL types, as in the SEC or Big10. I am guessing that Hall like JTS missed a season of games due to his conference in the covid era.

  33. T. McGee Says:

Bowles doesn’t excite people as a head coach but deserves the benefit of the doubt when he talks about his defensive players. He knows defense.

  34. Dave Pear Says:

    Logan Who?

    B U S T

  35. 1#bucsfan Says:

JTS n hall both were raw coming into the big leagues. Both projects. We all have heard some good things from JTS in TC not much but that he has improved and then the scrimmage from the jets he was owning the oline so maybe if JTS does break out this year and that’s a really big MAYBE just maybe Hall follows suit. Some people take time to develop. All the fans calling hall a busy after 1 season you’re wrong you don’t judge a draft pick till after 3 years. Judgement is on JTS this year it’s his 3 year hall had 2 more seasons to get right. Sorry not sorry your generation is the microwave generation that thinks with everything you can just have instant success.

  36. Wild Bill Says:

Hall may never be a starter but may develop into a decent backup at several positions. If not he will likely be replaced by next year. No shame in that. Only a small number of draftees become full time starters. Even big name college players bomb out every season. I had a brother in law who was a starter rb/db in the Rose Bowl and had preseason tryouts with three different pro teams in consecutive years. He was the top scorer in the semi pro leagues multiple times. After being cut in the final rounds 3 years in a row he quit trying. Plenty of players who were highly ranked in college fail to make it in the NFL. No shame in that. And each season there is a whole new crop of talented players and a relatively few make it big.

  37. THOMAS PFALZ Says:

Who will the Bucs cut in order to keep Hall?

  38. bucsfaninOregon Says:

Logan Hall is the mystery man to me. I have watched most of the pre-season and all games last year. I am sure that I missed a lot of things over the course of the year. BUT, I CAN NOT remember Logan Hall’s named ONCE! Does he have a tackle last year- -even one?!

I have seen JTS, since I guess he is a starter, and he is pathetic (so far).

My thought is that they are both busts.

  39. Buc1987 Says:

Warren Sapp sucked as a rookie.

  40. SlyPirate Says:

“I’ll play you until I can replace you.”
    -Coach Morris

Hall is going to be an average rotational guy. He’s in there until we find someone better. That someone will likely be CK. He just needs to heal up.

  41. fred Says:

    Trash!

  42. Marine Buc Says:

    @ THOMAS

“Who will the Bucs cut in order to keep Hall?”

    Hopefully Ke’Shawn Vaughn… Dude sucks.

  43. JimBobBuc Says:

Bowles is in CYA mode. Bad scouting before the draft. Bad coaching to realize the talent and propping up Halls spirits to keep him trying. Gholston is much better and should get the starts will Hall subbing. I might even put Hall down at 3 behind Greene and or Brewer. Brewer has shown flashes but against third teamers with some good penetration.

    ^^^^^^^
Dude, Hall had 2.5 sacks last year. While not great, it was something.

  45. All_da_way Says:

I watched Hall be put on roller skates against the Jets. The reason why Hall is playing so much is because the coaches see he needs more development time and reps.

  46. Lakeland Steve Says:

The only play I noticed Hall was when he got double teamed. He held up fairly well but did get moved a little too much. The problem is this guy has never even flashed during a play that I can remember last preseason or regular season or so far this season.
