“Can’t You Just Pick A Common Quarterback Like A Normal Person?”

August 16th, 2023

Takes a swing at Bucs QBs.

The Bucs’ quarterback competition now has sunk to satirical levels.

All summer, Joe has noted not only have the Bucs not received any sort of buzz nationally (which often follows good teams), but outside of some Bucs fans, Baker Mayfield’s family, Rick Spielman and Shaun King, Joe cannot find anyone away from the immediate Tampa Bay area that thinks Mayfield can lead the Bucs to anything but a decent draft slot to select his successor.

Competing Kyle Trask? These same folks shrug and point to the top projected Heisman Trophy candidates this fall.

Enter humorist Annie Agar. Everyone’s favorite snarky and fun sports personality does a “meeting” video weekly during the football season. It’s a social media skit in which she takes potshots at players, coaches and teams — college football and the NFL.

Occasionally, the Bally Sports host will cut a video during the non-football season (often about March Madness). Yesterday was a day she tackled the NFL preseason.

One of Agar’s alter egos, wearing a Tom Brady Bucs jersey, remarked how the Bucs tabbed Mayfield to lead the pewter pirates to the playoffs in 2023, adding, “It was either that or Kyle Trask.” Agar shot back, “Why would it be between that and Kyle Trask? Can’t you just pick a common quarterback like a normal person?”

[Rim shot!]

Joe is yet to be convinced a “normal person” believes Colts rookie Anthony Richardson will be a franchise-leading postseason quarterback, certainly not this year. There are other quarterbacks in that class, too. So there’s that.

But this is the business the Bucs have chosen. Mayfield or Trask it is.

The fact Agar is using Mayfield/Trask as a punch line in a preseason satire video for her 1.3 million social media followers highlights what many fans believe starting Mayfield to be: a funny one-liner.

Time for Mayfield (or Trask) to prove them wrong.

Joe I’m a Bucs fan that has been aware Baker would start the day he inked.

  2. Proudbucsfan Says:

That was not entertaining, I will not be following her or for that matter listening to everything she has to say

  3. garro Says:

Geez Joe that is a whole new level of lame.

    Go Bucs!

  4. Mike C Says:

I just don’t know who is keeping up with other teams PRE season games… feels like alot of people (like I was) would be out of the loop on some of these jokes.

  5. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

It’s funny how competition makes everyone better except quarterbacks.

  6. BuddhaBuc Says:

Annie is awesome! I watched all of these skits last year. Anyone saying these are lame doesn’t recognize talent or have a sense of humor. Lighten up people, some of you have the personality of an IRS agent.

  7. BuddhaBuc Says:

and I love that she said, “Donavan Smith is holding again”. Hahaha

This was once a great site to get local Bucs news and perspective. It’s now become an off-load point for mindless national “hot takes”. Straight garbage! Joe thanks you for your patronage. Stick with Joe all day for reports from the Bucs-Jets joint practices in New Jersey. Lots of fans like to know what national chatter is on their favorite team. –Joe

Below is a list of all the first round QB’s selected since 2013. I omitted this year because none have played in an NFL game.
Doesn’t take a genius to surmise that, despite the sprinkling of a few stars, most have been average to outright failures.
Some of you here wish the Bucs would tank to grab a first round “star” in the 2024 draft. And some, in both the media and here, have proclaimed Kyle Trask to be a failure.
But there’s one thing you’re overlooking, the failures below were given one thing Trask has yet to get—a chance to prove what they can or cannot do.
As a late second round pick, none of us knows how Trask will play in real game situations. To say he “sucks,” especially after a stellar college career (far superior to Anthony Richardson), is your prerogative, but without empirical evidence to back your claim, you come off as less than a fool.
None of us knows what we have in Trask until he plays in real game conditions, including the coaches and GM. Example: see Brock Purdy
As the old saying goes; be careful what you wish for. Lots of broken dreams still wafting around the home NFL cities from the failures below …

“Everyone’s favorite.” More like dudes that get little boners in their cargo shorts over every hot chick and they simp out. If Tiffany Gomas (the crazy plane lady) wasn’t a piece of ass then no one would have cared and she wouldn’t be internet famous. And Buddha – you must be the kind of guy that thinks the canned/safe for everyone “comedy” in marvel movies is funny

  11. Buc4evr Says:

That woman is annoying and just a total hack at comedy, couldn’t watch the whole thing. Waste of bandwidth.

I’ve looked that same info up too, literally 2 of 3 are busts, (the Jets can speak to that) in think Trask has a better than even chance to be successful in this league, far more so than AR15, Justin Fields or Trey Lance

  13. PSL Bob Says:

There’s some funny stuff in there, preseason or not. And hey, she thinks Baker Mayfield performed better than Trey Lance. So, there’s that.

  14. Craig Says:

Of all the last few seasons top QBs, Trask has the best chance to make his name known in a good way.

He sat behind Brady and that seems to be the high point of his professional education.

Still, he remade himself this off-season. That shows that he is more motivated and emotionally balanced than most of the others. I have high hopes that the conversation will change after the Jets game; enough to renew some talk of a competition.

  15. Wild Bill Says:

Women sports reporters should be banned from men’s sports and only report on women’s sports. Big hair and big boobs definitely have a place in life. Just not in football. Haha

  16. Bucee's Says:

JA above listed all QB’s drafted in 1st round since 2013. How may of those have a playoff game win. We have a QB that has(experience). Out of the 30 taken in the 1st round I believe 8 or 9 have won a playoff game and only one has won a super bowl. If you look at every team’s QB situation, Mayfield might not be as bad as everybody wants to say it is.

  17. Irishmist Says:

Kenny Pickett didn’t look very good last year. And the steelers had a losing record. But the difference between a quality organization and a poor organization is patience and knowing how to develop young players. It takes time to learn how to be a good QB in the NFL. We will never know what we have in Trask unless we give him a fair chance.

  18. Infomeplease Says:

Hey BM played better than Trey Lance!! I love Annie!!

  19. Robert Says:

There is no way this team isn’t atleast competitive. There is way too much talent on this team. The defense alone will win 6 games by itself. The NFC South is horrible. I see a 9-8 team winning the division. Then again they are gonna wear the cursed Creamsicle uniforms with the winking pirate Bucco Brucie.atleast one game so who knows.

  20. Robert Says:

And all of you wanting Trey Lance. What has he ever done except be horrible ?He reminds me of a mobile Ryan Leaf.

  21. unbelievable Says:

I used to love Annie’s little skits a few years back, but her schtick has grown old and kinda boring.

(And if you’ve followed her for a while, you can see how much her social media fame has gone to her head)

  22. Dwayne Cone Says:

Let’s not forget Jacoby Brissett who was Drafted Number 91 in 2016 and of the QB’s to sign a 1 year deal got the biggest bag @ 8 million. Back up QB has got to be the best Gig.

  23. Denny Gay Says:

this is funny and well produced.

  24. kyle Says:

i look at her for her good looks.. could care less about her football commentary….haha

  25. Nybuccguy Says:

Women are good at a lot of things. Football and comedy aren’t their strong suit though.

  26. Toad Bowels Says:

JA great research… I count 30 total QBs

Elite Mahomes, Josh Allen, Burrow 3 of 30 or 10%
Above Average Lamar Jackson, Watson, Kyler Murray 3 of 30 or 10%
Average, Goff, Tua, Baker, Pickett, Daniel Jones. Mack Jones 6 of 30 or 20%
Jury still out untested. Love, Lance, Lawrence, 3 of 30 or 10%
Flame outs. Wentz, Bortles, Winston 3 of 30 or 10%
    Busts remaining 12 of 30 or 40%

So basically a first round draft pick gives us a 20% chance of improving our situation at quarterback, a 20% chance of staying the same, a 10% chance of ????? And a 50% chance of a bust or flameout.

Based on those odds (and I’d like to see a similar listing for left tackles edge rushers and cornerbacks) Bucs would be better off either trading down or picking another position.

  27. Beej Says:

You’re better off trading a couple-three ones for a proven good QB, far less ‘spinning the wheel’

  28. Thunder Says:

    Should of took Stetson Bennett

  29. HA-HA-HA Says:

Not as funny as Bench warmer Brian.
