A Todd Bowles Kind Of A Game

August 19th, 2023

Bucs coach Todd Bowles.

Someday, when Bucs coach Todd Bowles publishes his memoirs, tonight’s win over the Jets in the Bucs’ second worthless preseason game will be remembered as the kind of win Bowles drools over.

Low-scoring. Trying long field goals. Getting takeaways.

That’s pretty much how the Bucs won.

Kyle Trask was forced to play nearly the entire game due to a head injury suffered by Bucs backup John Wolford. Trask made just enough passes for the Bucs to score points.

Trask got little help from the run game unless Sean Tucker and Ronnie Brown got the rock. This lousy run game is going to make Joe eat Nexium. But the Bucs defense rose up. It forced three takeaways. The most important was Dee Delaney’s pick of a Tim Boyle pass late in the game.

While most of the Bucs starters had the night off, including Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield, the backups got the job done, covering for teammates that couldn’t get the job done and making key plays when presented.

Todd Bowles’ kind of win.

Baba Booey!

First preseason win for the Bucs in the last 5 tries. (0-3 last year)

  2. Irishmist Says:

“While most of the Bucs starters had the night off, including Bucs quarterback Kyle Trask,”– Careful Joe, your Freudian slip is showing.

  3. Pewter Power Says:

If Bucs draft one of the top quarterbacks I don’t see any reason to keep a head coach who likes low scoring game in the new era of ball I mean why draft a quarterback. He’s a throwback like lovie and should only be a coordinator. BA’s soft spot is the only reason he ever got a second chance

  4. HC Grover Says:

The pressure is on Bowzo and Mayfield next week. If they collapse against the Ravens at home Trask can pull it out in the 2nd half.

  5. EEK Says:

    Dink and dunk puny offense

  6. Derek Says:

Zero run game unless Racchad White turns into Jim Brown

  7. DRM Says:

    Bring on the draft 2024

  8. Hawaiian Buc Says:

This is going to be a long, boring season Bucs fans.

  9. Stu Says:

With the #1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select…

  10. RGA Says:

Maybe we should wait until we actually see most of the starters play before any assumptions are made. Usually the Bucs second string takes a beating in
Preseason games, maybe giving back-ups playing time will pay off during the season.

  11. Mr. Editor Says:

The starter at kicker is coming into focus.

  12. Buccos Says:

I liked the game. Trask played very well with backup receivers dropping perfect passes. And we won the game, which was nice for a change

  13. Pewter Power Says:

No way we get the first pick in the draft with evans and Godwin on the field. You don’t have to be accurate for evans just throw it up in his area. Everyone was hyping up the panthers because they went and drafted a quarterback but the o line is worst than ours. That kid is in for a rough season. They have a chance of getting the top pick than us

  14. Since76 Says:

Not impressed with play calling. Too many throws behind the line of scrimmage without taking the defenders out of the area. Loss of yardage too many times.

  15. Sly Pirate Says:

    Our punter is amazing

Baba Booey indeed, best part of the whole show.

Flush Todd “the toilet” Bowles down the hole, I cant do another year of his s**t.

Also tired of seeing the guys face bounce between totally confused and relatively amused.. he looks and acts like a casual fan in the stands, not the DC-posing-as-HC that hes being paid to be….

  17. 1#bucsfan Says:

What baba booey. Heard it in the back ground while watching the game

  18. David Says:

Todd B. was afraid to play Baker after seeing Trask having an excellent half. He knew Kyle would be the qb1 in the eyes of the fans if Baker played poorly in the second half. He puts Trask back in and prays somehow Trask play badly in the second half to undo his great 1st half performance.

All backfired on Todd B. as Trask goes in and plays even better in the second half.
Now Todd B. has a big mess on his hand. Now Todd B. will do anything out of his bag of tricks in the third game to downgrade Trask.

Mr. Bowles this circus show is over. Trask won. He defeated a miserable incompetent qb who was scrapped by three previous teams.

You will be impeached by the fans if you start Baker.

  19. Duane Says:

A 13-6 game in the 80s and 90s would have been a classic defensive struggle. In today’s game, its near impossible to watch, and highly indicative of sloppy play. Bowles ball is as unappealing as that deadpan routine he loves showing the media.

  20. Rod Munch Says:

    RUN RONNIE RUN!

  21. RuKa Says:

Don’t you just have this strange feeling that Todd will never achieve anything of relevance? You cannot put your finger on it, is not one thing specially, but man it just feels like that every time he speaks or every time we play a game… there is not this winning mentality feeling, this energy, this drive to succeed…

  22. Voice of Truth Says:

It’s so painful to watch. Like nails on a chalkboard- he just irritates me with his arms folded nothingness going on in his head

We look like the Ray Perkins Bucs – bet the record is very similar to Rays also

Can’t wait til we fire this bum and get a coach that actually appreciates out scoring the opposing team to win

  23. garro Says:

I don’t think he will sell many copies in Tampa after consitent BS he has spouted here.

    Go Bucs!

  24. Peck Says:

As a real bucs fan. I’m looking extremely forward to seeing Trask build. He’s the QB I want starting. Because he’s been on the team since 2021. Organizations need to draft players they want to build on and put effort into. Tired of all these old head footballers only willing to give QBs who’ve had field time the opportunity… Like people are aware in sports you need real time game reps to get better right? How do you get better by only playing the practice squad. Exactly you don’t. If the bucks gave Winston an opportunity the Trask is def deserving of it. Also any of the people saying Kyle throws INTs also forgets Brady threw quite a few last season and he was the GOAT. Put faith in the people you draft otherwise what’s the point

  25. D Cone Says:

Back in the day a coach went 2-14 in year one and 6-10 in year two. In today’s need for instant gratification that coach’s head would be called for.
Bowles went 8-10 including a playoff loss in year one. Could have been better barring key injuries. Could have been worse without games being pulled out at the end. Team wasn’t very good but it was not a 2-14 team either. This year it’s a just don’t know year but it’ predicted to be a six win season. Let’s all start calling for his head. Coaches are given 3 years and a coach back in the day that went 8-24 in his first two won a Super Bowl his third in 1981. Won another in 1984. Won another in 1988. Pretty good for a 2-14 start.

  26. Crickett Baker Says:

Our coach seems to have no enthusiasm. It rubs off on fans. IDK why he just stands there and never looks happy or angry. I bet he is on Zanax. I don’t understand his demeanor at all.
