Internal Scouting Report On David Moore

July 28th, 2023

Veteran newcomer Bucs receiver David Moore is battling for the No. 4 receiver job.

Joe is loving all the competition at wide receiver in Buccaneers camp.

It’s a cool mix of speed, youth and experience.

Joe wrote about buzz surrounding second-year man Devon Thompkins, who also is the Bucs’ returning starter at returner.

Another guy getting love is veteran free agent David Moore. He made a bunch of starts in Seattle, including the postseason, before landing with the Bucs this season following legal trouble and a stalled stint with Carolina.

Moore isn’t as quick as Thompkins and rookie Trey Palmer, but he sure looks polished.

Joe asked Chris Godwin for a scouting report on Moore. Godwin said he’s learning from the newcomer.

“I think he’s a very smart player,” Godwin said of Moore. “Obviously, we’ve been in the league the same amount of years. You know, he’s been doing like a lot of good stuff. He’s good with his releases. He runs good routes. You know, he’s just a pro, man. I’m really glad that he’s on our team and kind of picking his brain — like we kind of like share thoughts and stuff like that.”

Joe can’t say Moore has looked great through the early stages of camp — not good but not bad. But he should be a busy man most of the summer and in preseason games, where Bucs fans — and probably coaches — will decide if he’s ready to flashback to his starter days in Seatte.

Month and a half ago Moore was just “camp meat” lol

    WR position is looking deep…..

Evans, Godwin,Gage, Thompkins, Moore, Palmer, Geiger, Warner, Jarrett

  3. A Bucs Fan Says:

No way Bucs keep seven Wr’s this year. Rakim has the inside track so far through the first two days. Haven’t heard a peep about Trey Palmer yet. It’ll be interesting who the 4,5,&6 spots are this year.

Is it possible Gage gets cut even with 7 million guaranteed?

  4. Da Bucs Guy Says:

Too bad they do not have a NFL Starting calibur Quarterback throwing to them.

  5. JimBobBuc Says:

The only thing Moore has going for him is the knowledge of the offense. Will that be enough? I don’t think he will last long.

Chris Godwin is probably my favorite player on the Bucs. As my wife and I say about people we choose to hang out with…”He gets it”.

Godwin certainly has played well enough, fought back from injury, put up some impressive numbers, never whined when BA moved him, to become a DIVA like AB and many of the other arseholes who play WR. But he never whines and NEVER stops trying to improve.

He’s secure in his own ability and able to LISTEN to anybody he feels has quaity information.

There may be only one Buc I’ll root for harder this year and that’s Shaq Barrett.
Given his injury and his HORRIBLE loss this summer he’s a man I hope succeeds beyond expectations!

    “NFL Starting calibur Quarterback”

Really? WTF do you guys call an NFL starting QB.

As recently as 2020 Mayfield led the crappy Brown franchise to their first since 2002!!! That’s almost 20 years!!! He then went on the road to the Cleveland’s biggest rival (the Bengals are even there) in Pittsburgh. He won the Browns first road post season game since freaking 1969!!! Now we’re talking a half effing century! He continued on the road against Mahomes and the Chiefs and only lost by five 22-17. But that’s NOT an NFL starting QB. Some of you guys are beginning to embarrass yourselves!!!!!

Here’ an old adage that rings true. You do not make your own furniture look any better by chopping up your neighbors furniture. If Trask or any other QB is better…fine…but if you’re a true Buc fan you won’t wish to see Trask start because Mayfield sucks but rather because Trask played outstanding football and beat out Mayfield.

AGAIN…see SF last year…3 “NFL Starting calibur Quarterbacks” it is POSSIBLE the Bucs have 2! Just sayin’.

  8. MelvinJunior Says:

Totally, forgot we had him… I like him. He really came through for me on several occasions as a real good cheap option on a few of my “DraftKings” DFS-lineups, especially since Metcalf was seemingly, ALWAYS injured!!!! Could be a HUGE pickup for us if Gage cannot ever get onto the field.

  9. firethecannons Says:

He should be vying for #3 and 4 Wideout spots Russel Gage is nothing until he is something. RG is a drag on the salary cap, rather give his spot to an udfa working to be relevant. He was not a difference maker with Brady when he was on the field.

  10. Fred McNeil Says:

I’m not counting on Gaged to make the team. Maybe let him sit on IR till needed.

  11. Sly Pirate Says:

#4 Receiver is a premier job on the Bucs
Inevitably 1-3 get hurt. It’s not uncommon to be down 2 starters. As #4, you’re gonna be #1-3 for half the season. Hopefully one of them emerge.

Put the Taco Bells in Tampa on High Alert.

    Go Bucs!
