Bucs Training Camp 2023 Day 3 Practice Notes

July 28th, 2023

Kyle Trask is (finally) being consistent. It appears Todd Bowles grew sick of watching quarterbacks have half the morning to throw. And Bucs linebackers are beginning to prowl. All that and more in today’s practice notes.

*Remember, no pads yet. “Underwear football” all morning. No hitting of any kind allowed.

* Several JoeBucsFan readers have asked why Trey Palmer hasn’t been in Joe’s highlights. It’s because he hasn’t done much. Palmer had a mixed bag today. He badly mishandled a punt early on with no defenders anywhere close. When push comes to shove on cutdown day, every little mistake (or good play) is magnified. Especially special teams plays. Joe caught Todd Bowles walking away from defensive backs drills to watch most of the punt return work. Hopefully, this will be Palmer’s last bad play.

* Trask had another solid day. Joe cannot believe it’s the same quarterback from just a few weeks ago. Trask used to lollipop many of his passes. No more. He’s rifling the ball. It’s pretty clear someone worked with his mechanics if not his head. More importantly, someone or some people didn’t work with his mechanics previously. If this keeps up next week, a serious quarterback competition could emerge — like the Bucs talked so much about this offseason.

* Homage to Byron Leftwich: First play of 11-on-11 is Rachaad White up the middle.

* Baker Mayfield dumps the ball off to receiver Deven Thompkins in the left flat. Thompkins is getting plenty of work with “the ones” (first team offense).

* Mayfield throws into tight coverage and finds tight end Cade Otton over the left seam.

* Sneak Vaughn up the middle for a few yards.

* Trask threads the needle between defenders, throwing to the right side as Ko Kieft cut in from the right sideline.

* Trask is flushed right and connects on the move with undrafted rookie Rakim Jarrett along the right sideline. As Jarrett was chased out of bounds by Keenan Isaac, Jarrett trucked a Bucs team photographer, knocking her flying. Isaac helped her up. She seemed OK and got right back on the sidelines as if she was never run over.

* Joe couldn’t catch the number but it seemed as if Zyon McCollum jumped a route on Trask throwing short to the right sideline and nearly picked him off. … Later, McCollum did have a pick-six on No. 3 quarterback John Wolford.

* White up the middle for a decent gain.

* Mayfield throws deep down the left sideline for Mike Evans. The throw was short and it appeared as Evans tried to come back to the ball, corner Duron Lowe (Liberty) grabbed Evans’ arm preventing him from making a play.

* Mayfield throws between two tight defenders for receiver Kaylon Geiger. Maybe it is just Joe but Mayfield has ever so slightly gotten better on this third day of training camp. That’s the plan, right? Get better each practice?

* Geiger again catches a pass from Mayfield down the left seam.

* Trask fakes a run to the left, rolls right and connects with Tanner Taula for a nice gain on the right side.

* Chase Edmonds jump cuts to the left for a big gain.

* Otton hauls in a pass from Trask along the left sideline.

* Ronnie Brown catches a pass over the middle, bounces off a defender and makes a nice play.

* White doesn’t have a big gain on a run but dang, on this play he sure hit the hole quickly.

* Mayfield again tries to link up with Evans deep down the left sideline. This time he overthrew Evans. McCollum defended.

* David Moore catches a pass from Mayfield down the right seam.

Goal line

* White to the right, not for much.

* White runs up the middle and despite not wearing pads (but helmets), you could hear a crunch from the bleachers.

* Mayfield tries a fade pass to undrafted rookie receiver Kade Warner in the far right corner and Warner couldn’t make a play on the ball.

* Miller scores on a “Benn’ed Around.”

* Trask rolls right and hits Geiger for a touchdown.

* Who says Trask has no wheels? Flushed from the pocket, Trask just tucked the ball and ran straight up the middle for a touchdown.

* Almost! Wolford throws high along the left sideline just across the goal line but Jarrett skied high and appeared to have caught a touchdown as he got both feet inbounds. But no! In Roger Goodell’s league, you have to hold onto the ball for 90 seconds for a touchdown. Despite Jarrett coming down with the ball in his mitts, as he rolled on his back upon hitting the ground, the ball squirts loose. Incomplete.

* Mayfield rolls left and hits Kieft on a short pass. Kieft turns upfield, squares his shoulders to the line, and barrels in and scores.

* The way Kieft always squares his shoulders to the line reminds Joe of how Joe Paterno always had all of those good Penn State linebackers square their shoulders constantly. Doesn’t hurt that Keift is built like a Big Ten linebacker.

* Mayfield finds a widearse open Chris Godwin in the end zone down the seam and rifles the ball to Godwin. Godwin then flips the ball in the air to celebrate. Pretty play.

Seven-on-Seven

* Finally. Mayfield connects with Evans for about a 15-yard gain down the left sideline.

* David Moore drops a Mayfield pass down the left seam. Sure looked like Jamel Dean got away with a hold, grabbing Moore’s arm.

* Miller catches a Mayfield pass to the left side.

* Mayfield is flushed to the left and he dumps a pass off to David Wells.

* Moore catches a pass from Mayfield as he runs a crossing pattern from the right. K.J. Britt gave chase.

* Trask throws to Palmer and the ball is off his hands. So far it appears Palmer is botching more plays than he is making. To be fair, Trask put some mustard on the ball and you could hear the “POP” as the ball hit Palmer’s hands.

* Trask rares back and ropes a pass to Evans along the left sideline between what appared to be three defenders, Dee Delaney, Nolan Turner and McCollum.

* Trask is using a fastball that reminds Joe of Jameis. Say what you will about Jameis, but at times, that former ACC closer demonstrated he still had a nasty fastball.

* Edmonds catches a pass from Trask along the left sideline.

* Trask is flushed right and hits Taula on the move as he ran a crossing pattern. Nice gain.

* White runs up the middle and goes nowhere, bounces outside to the right for a nice gain.

* It seems Bowles has seen enough. He unleashes the hounds and now we’re seeing a pass rush.

* Mayfield connects with Evans but if this was real football Mayfield would have been splashed by Devin White.

* Mayfield dumps off a pass to Palmer but in the real world, it would have been a coverage sack. Joe Tryon-Shoyinka was breathing on Mayfield.

* Trask fakes a handoff and throws to Moore along the left sideline.

* Mayfield is flushed and damn near sacked by Cam Gill.

* Trask throws a bulls-eye between two defenders for a sliding Moore for the catch. However, Logan Hall bullrushed his way through the line and in real football likely would have put Trask on his back.

* White runs right and cuts inside for a decent gain.

* The immortal tight end Dominique (Indiana State) catches a pass from Mayfield on the left side.

* Under a heavy rush, Mayfield gets rid of the ball trying to hook up with Taula but the ball is overthrown.

Two minute offense

* Completions by Mayfield to Thompkins and Otton to set up a touchdown pass from Mayfield to Wells underneath the crossbar.

* Trask got the Bucs in the red zone with passes to Palmer for about 15 yards and Payne Durham sandwiched around an incompletion intended for Geiger. On the completion to Durham, the big tight end from Purdue sure looked as if he got away with a pushoff.

    good stuff joe.

concerning BM keeps missing ME. should be the easiest target.

Trask is looking good it seems.

  6. Defense Rules Says:

Joe … ‘Who says Trask has no wheels? Flushed from the pocket, Trask just tucked the ball and ran straight up the middle for a touchdown.’

Kyle’s certainly not fast, but with his size I got a hunch he’ll be tough to bring down.

  7. FlBoy84 Says:

It’s fair to say that, just because JTS was breathing on Mayfield, it doesn’t guarantee a sack would’ve been the result.

  8. Defense Rules Says:

Joe … ‘Trask throws to Palmer and the ball is off his hands. So far it appears Palmer is botching more plays than he is making. To be fair, Trask put some mustard on the ball and you could hear the “POP” as the ball hit Palmer’s hands.’

Palmer better spend every waking minute with the JUGS machine.

  9. Nate Says:

    Defense sounds slow

  10. Bucsfan13 Says:

Yes! Bowles please bring the pressure. I want to see how the OL handles the rush as well as the QBs. Mayfield gets a little happy feet when the rush comes. He has a habit of leaving a clean pocket. He also has the pocket awareness of Helen Keller.

  11. ATLBuc Says:

Pads go on next week and I think Mayfield will be affected more. He has had a tendency to hold onto the ball too long leading to sacks and interceptions. I think Kyle will be better when the pads go on.

  12. Hodad Says:

Both QBs playing well, this is good.

  13. Dooley Says:

“* Trask throws a bulls-eye between two defenders for a sliding Moore for the catch. However, Logan Hall bullrushed his way through the line and in real football likely would have put Trask on his back.”

This is what you want, Trask, Moore, & Hall all showing up on a single rep. Who were the two defenders?

And How’s Merriweather looking? I don’t sleep on Iowa prospects, Kirk Ferentz has been pumping pro prospects out of Iowa since I started middle school and imo doesn’t get the national love he should as one of the better collegiate coaches the last 20 years or so

  14. SB~LV Says:

    These are the best!

  15. DBS Says:

If this keeps up next week? We will see if the line can stop the defense from breathing on either QB. If he let them at them today did he give the OL a chance to stop them? Let’s see what happens in pads.

  16. Dooley Says:

“Mayfield gets a little happy feet when the rush comes. He has a habit of leaving a clean pocket. He also has the pocket awareness of Helen Keller.”

Sad truth @Bucsfan13, we’ve mentioned it before and I’ve been watching Mayfield footwork as one of the youtubers’ I follow does day to day compilations of footage from training camp. So far that plant foot has been grounded, but agree I want to see him respond to the rush, don’t wanna hear confidence & competence anymore, I need to see it.

  17. Mike S Says:

I know its only been 3 days Joe – but take the Baker Mayfield foam finger off for a minute and tell it to us straight.

Does Trask look as good as you are describing here? An accurate mobile guy with a fastball?

    Tysm for these notes!

  20. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Sounds like Trask realizes that throwing a catchable softball is not the safest in the NFL as defenders are a step faster. Good for him to evolve this year.

    Thank you Joe!!!!

Those who watched play Trask at Florida in the best and fastest conference in college football play and understand the subjective influences that govern today’s football world are not in the least bit surprised.

  24. donuts Says:

As always, great camp coverage JBF!

  25. Tbbucs3 Says:

Baker Mayfield had a much better college career than Trask so it makes no sense for commentors to keep referencing his time at Florida.

Jamarucs Russel and Johnny Manziel were also great QBs in “the fastest conference”….how’d that turn out?

  26. Tbbucs3 Says:

You know who had a worse college career than Baker Mayfield, Jameis Winston and Kyle Trask?

Tom Brady, college stats means nothing.

  27. gotbbucs Says:

Trask looks better and is throwing harder because he’s actually being coached and getting practice reps now. He understands the offense.

They made zero attempt to develop him while Brady was here because Brady didn’t want a young QB backing him up.

For as much good as Brady did here, he stunted the growth of young players on offense because he had no patience for them. There was no reason for guys like Rachaad White and Devin Thompkins to be standing on the sideline last year considering all of the injuries at RB and WR, except that Brady didn’t want to have to deal with their growing pains.

  28. Obvious Says:

Joe, I’ve been reading your write ups for years and I know different guys are doing the footwork through that time (I think).

I gotta say THIS reporting has been some of your Very Best! I’m not brown nosing here. Truly it seems you personally ha e Upped Your game. And your reporting seems fair and balanced to me.

And the way your describing the play by play, you’re giving me a Real sensation of living vicariously through your eyes. I can almost picture myself in the bleachers.

Trask is turning my point of view around. I wasn’t against him. I was just starting to have a Very Real Sinking feeling in my stomach that my beloved Bucs had waisted another QB. I CREDIT TRASK “HIMSELF” for “not only” keeping himself relevant, but far More than that, Excelling under “dubious circumstances”.

As far as Kyle Trask goes the word that cannot be denied considering the cards the Bucs dealt him (NONE), the word I’m choosing for him today isn’t the word impressive. Not even Stellar! No, the word for him is “SENSATIONABLE”!

He is demonstrating for ALL of us to see (through Joe’s Eyes) his TRUTH! He is LIterally Proving All that was said about his patience and his ability to SHOW UP and SHOW OUT exactly when it’s the ultimate moments. HE’S DOING IT AGAIN and it almost feels like prophesy….. Wacky sounding I know but Come On… IT’S TRUE!

ALL I ever wanted was a franchise QB. And he’s showing at least to me that he Might Just Be The One… Could you imagine if we weren’t relegated to being forced to choose a QB in the first rounds and could “literally” take the BPA at the draft? We could REALLY step up our pass rush! Or our Oline, wide receivers, You Name it! That would Actually put us BACK IN the driver’s seat! Not only in our division btw.

I know I’m getting WAY ahead of myself but I can’t help but to feel giddy! The possibility of a Real franchise QB. A Dynasty on the line…. A story book scenario.
    I can almost Taste It..

Welp, I guess it’s CLEAR that in my case you’ve brightened my day. Thank You Joe “X”. Well Done

    GO BUCS!

  29. Mike S Says:

TB12 had pedestrian numbers at college. But he did win 10 games and the Orange Bowl – which he had his college career best numbers 369 yards and 4 TDs.

For contrast Trask threw for 400 yds and 4 TD 3 times in 2020.

  30. JimBobBuc Says:

Great coverage! We know the players won’t diss each other so please keep up the balanced reporting! With our upcoming use of 12 personnel, I’d like to hear about Kieft catching the ball and Durham blocking. I think Wells could be a dark horse tight end for TE3 or TE4. At Seattle, they ran a lot of seams to the TEs.

  31. Buc1987 Says:

    Go Kyle fing Trask!

  32. Gregv56 Says:

Who is the Miller Joe keeps talking about? Scotty is on the Falcons.

  33. Jeff Says:

    Great practice coverage.

  34. Sly Pirate Says:

“Homage to Byron Leftwich: White up the middle.”
-I threw up in my mouth.

    “Zyon coving Evans.”
-Hell ya! Zyon gonna emerge this year. Star CB next year.

    “Bowles unleashes the hounds.”
-About damn time! Four different guys with sacks. Oh ya!!!!! Educate our new OC on Bucs’ football.

  35. Craig Says:

Maybe Trask saw a QB whisperer when Baker was added.

It made Goff look like a winner for a year or two, so…

I remember the first time Clyde Christensen was here and how he was almost ridden out on a rail when Koetter was canned. Then he cam back with Ariens and was a great QB coach, or so the media tried to convince us, so maybe he still sucked eggs.

Canales seems to be a hands on guy with a higher ambition, so maybe the Bucs can, finally, develop a good QB.

Still, it is an uphill road for Trask to unseat Baker on day one, and that might be best, if he is pulled before he digs too deep of a hole.

    Thanks Joe.

  36. Scott Says:

The backup RBs seem to flash more than White

  37. Bucsfan13 Says:

@Dooley. Amen! I’ve had enough of this “moxie” talk about Mayfield. I have many reservations about Mayfield. I think he gets a pass for being a turnover machine. People went at Winston for his turnovers, but he wasn’t afforded the same type of pass Mayfield has been given. Would Mayfield actually be an upgrade to Winston? I can’t say he definitely would be an upgrade.

I really wanted Jimmy G. He would be perfect for this offense. He’s mobile enough to handle some of the rollouts and waggles of this new offense. He’s more efficient than Mayfield. He’s more careful with the ball than Mayfield. He’s played with two winning organizations, and he has that “moxie” Bowles seems to crave.

I know the team is motivated by the lack of respect by the media. The media knows this is a talented roster. In a QB- driven league we just have too many question marks at the position. It’s really the QB room that the media is down on. Not the rest of the team. If we signed Jimmy G or even Carr, i guarantee you the media wouldn’t have ranked us so low. By the way, I love your insight on the board!

  39. Wild Bill Says:

Nice to see Trask performing well. For two years he was the neglected step child nobody wanted. I would laugh my ass off if he beat out Baker. Be interesting to see how Baker. handles the pressure. Love it if Trask balls out after being ignored for two years.

  40. Wild Bill Says:

Won’t it be nice to see either Baker or Trask at 1 or 2. Bucs have not had dueling qbs in years!

  41. Mickman Says:

Personally I would love to see Traks start…if he is good great. If not It will put us up for Caleb. Baker is. It the long term solution.

  42. Mickman Says:

    *Trask

  43. Pickgrin Says:

    Great notes Joe. Thank You!!!

Through your notes and descriptions the fans who can’t be there get a real sense of what is happening at practice.

So many questions this year – you are an invaluable resource to all in providing some of the details that will lead to the answers of those questions.

BTW Joe – you wrote recently that you write all this stuff down between plays – sometimes missing part of or details about the next play…
Just curious – wouldn’t it be a lot easier/faster/more efficient to just have a little hand held recorder and dictate the details and observations about the plays you want to highlight? And then write down/organize the details later from the voice recording? Seem to me you could get more details recorded by speaking it than by writing in the short 30 seconds or whatever between plays. Keep your head up and your eyes on the field while you speak your notes and you won’t miss any of the next play….

  44. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

I hear oh there’s a buzz about how good Mayfield looks.

Really? I’m not hearing that from anyone who actually has attended these practices.

It’s all hype. I think what happens is you get repeated narratives from individuals sticking to what they think the consensus is. It’s time to fill.

Joe has been all excited about Mayfield all summer. He’s onsite watching. Yet he’s talking up Trask. Not in a way where he’s selling us Trask – we’re being given observations. Perhaps even chagrined ones. Kudos to Joe for being objective.

How I read this is Trask’s shot at this 100% legit.

Look the only dog any of us have in this fight is seeing this team do well.

If Baker wins the job, goes for 4200 and 30 and the Bucs win double digit games how could I be mad about it? Of course I wouldn’t be.

I’ll be honest it wasn’t what Trask did in college that made me think he was the guy – it’s the throws he made last preseason. Football IQ + accuracy = is something to notice.

Now we got Joe saying Trask has a fastball like a baseball closer and looks quick on his feet. I know what I saw in 2022. Expectations are high.

The Tom Brady era was great. Legitimacy is great.

But this team has that Bucs underdog feel to it. Hate to say it, but it feels normal again. I feel like it’s 1996. Something is on the come. Only this time we might have something at QB.

If it’s Baker – we’ll get the A version of Baker which is 230 PYPG and 25-27 TDs. Good enough to at least be in the division right to the last game possibly win it.

If it’s Trask… It will be better than that or at least as good with big excitement for 2024. Trask has a high ceiling. Could be real high. This feels like more than the typical July-August optimism.

If Bucs get big performance at QB who knows WTF could happen.

  45. Joe Says:

Through your notes and descriptions the fans who can’t be there get a real sense of what is happening at practice.

    Thanks. That’s always the goal.

Just curious – wouldn’t it be a lot easier/faster/more efficient to just have a little hand held recorder and dictate the details and observations about the plays you want to highlight? And then write down/organize the details later from the voice recording?

Just the opposite actually. Joe is pretty good with notes. And with notes, when Joe is typing the story, all he has to do is glance at the notes while typing — at the same time. If Joe used a voice recorder, he’d have to play that, constantly playing it back/rewinding two or three times and then transcribe. That might take hours. Major pain.

If there is a play Joe doesn’t want to highlight (third string and camp meat guys for example), Joe just doesn’t jot down any notes on the play. It’s like a mini-recess.

Besides, imagine how annoying it would be for someone to sit near Joe and hear him constantly doing play-by-play — of a training camp practice. Joe might just get kicked out for that (seriously). Only Ira can get away with talking through a whole practice. 🙂

  46. Pickgrin Says:

Makes sense Joe. Thanks for the response.

And thanks for all your efforts at camp. You are our eyes and ears out there and it really helps us get a better sense of what this team is going to look like when the lights come on….

  47. stpetebucfan Says:

I’m curious as to what happens here at JBF if the Mayfield/Trask competition ends in a tie. It is possible you know.

  48. SB~LV Says:

Somewhere in my YouTube surfing I came across the story timeline of Mayfield. The guy has really bounced around going back to his college days. He was had some great games and shows that he’s a fierce competitor.
Oh well I always feel glass half full at these transition phases.
    Lots riding on this year….

  49. Fred McNeil Says:

Toe would likely go to the more experienced QB.

  50. Joe Says:

I’m curious as to what happens here at JBF if the Mayfield/Trask competition ends in a tie. It is possible you know.

Joe’s been saying for months that Todd Bowles is going to go with Baker Mayfield unless Kyle Trask totally outplays him and you can’t take him off the field (Trask isn’t near at that level — yet).

Bowles needs wins and he’s not going to put his career on the line for a guy with nine pass attempts in his NFL life. Unless — see previous paragraph.

It’s very nice that Trask has improved so much. But that’s the level he was starting from — but nobody would listen to Joe even though Joe’s seen like 60 practices of Trask and 99.9 percent of commenters here haven’t seen him since his Gators days.

  51. Give it a Rest Trask Brigade Says:

Gator fans, we get it, you love Trask. You don’t need to post on any more threads.

Your comments won’t help him win the competition and it will only make you more mad and insufferable if and when he isn’t named the starter.

He’s had two decent practices out of three–without pads. Every other journalist and podcaster with access to the practices has expressed surprise that Trask does not look like a sure-fire backup. They’re surprised he’s not garbage, not that he’s playing well enough to be a starter.

By all accounts I’ve read, Mayfield is outplaying him, it’s just not news because it’s expected, and he’s not a local product.

Give it a rest and let the competition play out. Maybe Trask wins, but we all lose if you continue this b.s. on every comment thread.

  52. Joe Says:

Really? I’m not hearing that from anyone who actually has attended these practices.

You didn’t read the notes in this post. At least not carefully. 🙂

Baker Mayfield is still the No. 1 quarterback as of today. Trask has improved a lot. Not sure he’s at Mayfield’s level. Yet. The pads haven’t yet come on.

As always, thanks for these Camp Notes and the time and effort that go into them.

Homage to Byron Leftwich – LOL

  55. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

Joe Mayfield’s level is garbage provably until shown to be otherwise.

He doesn’t throw for yards, he checks down and has issues throwing to WRs, he turns the ball over, he takes a lot of sacks. This what is his body of work has shown.

It’s not like he can just strap it up and keeping doing what he’s been doing. Mayfield needs to get better to be a starting QB in the NFL. Or else what? Bucs get that same production? Won’t be good enough. Loving the name is not enough.

I know you been to all these practices and this is what you see, but this how I interpret what is going on.

Baker wins the job it’s because he’s taken his game to the next level. If not, then we’ll see Trask one way or another. Either straight up beating him in preseason or in relief sometime during the season.

Trask is not guy who riding on his baseline. He’s worked hard and gotten results. His stock is rising.

Pads come on next week and then after that we get preseason action. Baker cannot be the guy he’s been the last two years. That won’t fly.

“Bowles won’t trust a guy with no starting experience. Trask has to totally outplay him to win the job.”

I don’t understand that. You play the guy who is performing better. The guy that wins the job. It’s not like you brought in Aaron Rodgers. Mayfield has a losing record in the NFL. He was the worst QB in the league last year. He’s got something to prove too.

Speaking of Aaron Rodgers, that week of practice against the Jets is going to get national attention. No more peek-a-boo you can’t see what we got. No more filtering of information through team friendly sources. No more vids of drills only and guessing games. We’ll have one preseason game under the belt and then that week of full disclosure. I have a feeling all that visibility and broad evaluation happening just before and after the Jets game these discussions won’t be based on “trust me bro” narratives. It will get far and away more interesting.

  56. nooyoker Says:

There’s a reason so many are not buying Joe’s sales job on Baker Mayfield – Joe also sold us on Johnny Manziel and Jameis Winston. Joe takes great notes. Quarterback whispering? Not so much. 😛

  57. nooyoker Says:

Joe: “Baker Mayfield is still the No. 1 quarterback as of today.”

That’s not what the Bucs say and that’s not what your notes show. I’ve read and analyzed all your notes and they show Trask with a slight edge right now. You sound like you have a beef with Trask.

  58. garro Says:

If it was the Photgrapher I’m thinking it was she got trucked once before at a Plant vs Hillsborough high school game and well…she wan’t so lucky that time.
She is a tough girl. I think she maybe needs to use a longer lens though. LOL

    Go Bucs!

  59. Pablothepoolboy Says:

As many have pointed out the man playing the best will win the starting job. I don’t think Bowles or Canales will just put in Mayfield because of his name alone, that’s coaching suicide. I remember Seattle putting a great team together, then adding the QB (Wilson) and they flourished. When the “team” went south and disbanded, so did Wilson. The only consistant team in the NFL with a “marquee” QB is KC, but that’s also because of play calling and keeping the opponent off balanced. See SF last year. Health plays a huge role. There a lot of factors that go into a winning season. I would like to see Trask turn out to be our future QB, but if it happens to be Mayfield, hooray beer! Cool with that too. It would be nice to see that QB be here and, as someone said earlier, we draft BPA to strengthen the team.

I now live 12,000 miles from the great city of Tampa. Your Camp notes are maiking me feel like I did watching Vinny tossing to the back corner of the end zone at the University of Tampa.

    Thanks!

    Go Bucs!

Kyle Trask will win the job and we will make the playoffs

  62. Jp3 Says:

I was hopeful that Jaboo would be the one but I also believed in Dilfer

  63. Jp3 Says:

I just think KyleTrask perseverance will put him over the top being told you’re not good enough at every level only to prove otherwise when giving the opportunity

  64. Bucfan94 Says:

Trask coming into his own finally. I believe it’s 100% a product of Canales working with him. Lefwich was a terrible OC who was bailed out by Arians and Brady.

You are welcome. Joe always believed, first hatched in college, that he was fans’ eyes and hears for those who could not be where Joe is.

  66. Wild Bill Says:

Joe went to college? Never would have guessed haha jkg¹. I do believe Joe is doing a more interesting job reporting this year. Lots of new young players, position changes and very interesting qb contest has Joe and the rest of us jacked up. Hope Bowles has the balls to start who plays the best in the preseason games when the regular season begins. If that means Trask starts then so be it. Just don’t know if Bowels has the balls.

  67. Jenkins Says:

Glad to hear Trask is torching it. I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised, though, if, because of the way the Bucs have mismanaged him, he decides to seek other pastures.

  68. ManU fan Says:

So reading JBF today it seems they are grudgingly admitting Trask had as good, if not better day than Mayfield. Yet it seems Mayfield was throwing to mainly Evans and Godwin while Trask was.throwing to who? …sorry don’t recognize the names.

More than a day, I’d say. I’ve read and analyzed all of Joe’s notes and I’d say they show Trask with a slight edge. If the competition is anywhere near close, I don’t see how you go with a small journeyman with no upside (he’s on a one year contract) over an NFL sized specimen (6’5″ + 1/8″) with a future. But that is the way Joe’s cheerleading is going right now.
