“You Can Tell That His Confidence Is Much Higher”

May 23rd, 2023

“They’re feeling you, Kyle.”

Two Buccaneers were glowing about Kyle Trask 3.0 today.

Joe was fired up and almost ready to bolt One Buc Palace for the local Big Storm Brewing taproom in Ybor City. Let’s go, Kyle! What could be better than Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask playing their best ball this summer? It doesn’t have to be just one guy playing great in this alleged  quarterback competition.

“I think the biggest thing with Kyle, you can tell that his confidence is much higher,” Pro Bowl receiver Chris Godwin said today about Trask. Godwin also talked about Trask’s overall comfort and noted that Trask knew his role on the depth chart during the Tom Brady years and handled it professionally without trying to step on toes.

Second-year tight end Cade Otton said he sees Trask showing more confidence in his throws, implying that he’s throwing with more juice when it comes to fitting balls into tight windows and letting it rip on timing passes.

Joe hasn’t seen that yet, but media only sees a small fraction of spring practices.

Regardless, it’s all great to hear about Trask.

Get it, Kyle!

Some people may disagree, but a true competition is best for the team. Given that we do not have 1 guy we all agree on, that we are starting anew, and that the coaches have said publicly that it is a competition, it would be best that it is actually the case that it is a competition.

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I keep hearing encouraging words about Trask’s character, work ethic, attitude, teamwork….but this is the first time I’ve heard positives about his throwing.

    That’s the bottom line!!!

  3. Mike Says:

Dude absolutely needs a chance to play this year and show what he can do. I’m rooting for him!

  4. Rod Munch Says:

I’m not a fan of Trask at all, but I’d LOVE to see him come into camp and just flat out win the job. I don’t think it will happen, but I hope he does it.

  5. BBQBUC Says:

Now we’re seeing why, despite Kyle Trask being the only quarterback on the Bucs roster, the Bucs passed on Will Levis and Hendon Hooker in the first round of the draft; passed on Hooker in the second round; and, did not draft a quarterback in any round.

  6. Nicholas Carlson Says:

I’m definitely rooting for Kyle. I don’t want him to win the job unless he deserves it. But if he plays great and beats out a veteran like Mayfield, that’s a very good sign for the Bucs for the next 10 years.

  7. ATLBuc Says:

I’ve been saying all along, Mayfield was brought in to be a veteran backup. Go Gators!!

  8. Hodad Says:

This can’t be true. Just ask the experts, and Goat herder.

  9. Tim Says:

Awesome news. Ideally, I think it’d be ideal if Trask won the job. He’s only been here, he learned under Brady, and he’s younger.

  10. Rod Munch Says:

How are you nutjobs taking one quote about Trask throwing with confidence, and turning it into him no longer being a bust?

    Wow.

I would rather Trask win the job, because he gives the Bucs a full spectrum of possible outcomes, from being the worst team in football if he’s awful (which I think he will be, leading to a top pick in the ’24 draft), or perhaps he shows he’s a good player and the Bucs got their QB of the future, either way the team has hope.

With Mayfield, there is no hope. He’s been the worst QB in football for the last two years, and the team is doomed to go a boring and dull, and completely predictable, 5-12 or 6-11.

  11. Aleyz2020 Says:

I’d even be up for screwing with the defense once in a while like the Aints and switch QB’s in certain situations. B-)

  12. Dooley Says:

    Let.Kyle.Cook

  13. Defense Rules Says:

Love what Chris Godwin said about Kyle Trask. Very encouraging IMO.

And Joe, was your next to last line ‘Looking for a vehicle that doesn’t break the bank?’ a reference to Bill Currie Ford or to hoping that Kyle Trask wins the starting nod? I think I see a glimmer of hope in your QB outlook.

  14. Duane Says:

It seems more likely than not that there will be a real quarterback competition and it’s not likely to be resolved until the last weekend of pre-season ball. Both guys have a lot of talent and have been very successful before. It should be fun to watch. I’m rooting for both, and as I’ve written many times before, having two quality quarterbacks on the roster is the best way to succeed throughout an entire 17 game regular season and post season run. Too many opportunities for injuries to require at least a temporary change in starter.

  15. BBQBUC Says:

Rod Munch Says: “How are you nutjobs taking one quote about Trask throwing with confidence, and turning it into him no longer being a bust?”

He’s been a bust? How so? Details, please. For not beating out Tom Brady? LMAO.

It’s OK, Rod. We all know you’re a self-described Gator-hater and were a huge fan of Jameis.

  16. BigMacAttack Says:

I didn’t read it but LMAO!!! Anyway. Uh yeah, No.

  17. BigMacAttack Says:

When I think of Trask I think of Mr Trask, and “I’m too dang old and blind or I’d take a flamethrower to this place. God loves Al Pacino, Michael Corleone? Not so much.

  18. BucU Says:

Trask should be confident and comfortable. He got to watch the best who ever did it every single day for 2 yrs. He got to see what it takes to succeed at this level. I’m rooting for him.

  19. Mike C Says:

    BBQBUC , Absolutely correct.

  20. #99 the big fella Says:

Anytime Rod compliments the bucs he has to come back right away with a negative comment.. just go back and read all his posts

  21. Aceofaerospace Says:

Let the best man play. Whoever it is.

  22. Buc1987 Says:

#99 the big fella…most of the time when you comment it’s always about some other commenter being negative…

This is JBF….fans WILL be negative…you better get used to it.

  23. Craig Says:

Now that we know Brady isn’t going to show up with his hat in his hand, the players should be able to make it a pretty good competition.

Looks like Trask is ready for it, and I’ll hold to my faith that he can make it for a while longer.

  24. #99 the big fella Says:

Buc1987 you are absolutely correct I will have my say to all the negative Nancy’s. It’s only may and the JBF mafia has already written the bucs off.. it’s really stupid to do that.

  25. #99 the big fella Says:

I hope the bucs prove Vegas wrong.. It’s way to early to write us off already.

  26. Zoocomics Says:

I’ve been saying this for a while, there was no QB competition to back up Brady the last 3 seasons. Context is just shit in general, even with the national media. The idea that Trask couldn’t beat out Gabbert was just stupid. The reality is that Gabbert was really never going to play given the durability and consistency of Brady. It was all or nothing. Brady technically didn’t want to talk tablet stuff with a child, he wanted a veteran QB to chat-up and bounce stuff off of. That simple. Trask could surprise us.

  27. David Says:

    Wow, Joe;
Thanks for reporting an encouraging news on Trask finally. He will win qb battle if there is a real one set by the Bucs. One of Baker problems is his height not being able to see over the DL’s resulting in int’s and ball deflections.

  28. AnonymousBuc76 Says:

    Lfg KT…

  29. Just Leave Trask Alone Says:

Hmm…. A certain poster is missing from this thread. LOL

  30. 1#bucsfan Says:

Rooting for Kyle. Hope he wins it. If not then I’ll be rooting for baker but rather see what we have in kyle

  31. Wild Bill Says:

The best way for a rookie qb to develop is not to be rushed before he is ready especially while observing and learning behind a legend like Tom. Very few rooky qbs do well when thrown into the fire early on. This will be a make or break year for Trask and the good thing in his favor is he was never forced to play too early. It’s time now to step up and assert himself and I hope he does well. A conservative game plan should take some of the pressure off and if he gets decent pass protection he may surprise a lot fans this year. Baker gives the Bucs an insurance policy but his record does not predict an outstanding performance. It would be great to see Trask step up and deliver!

  32. Rod Munch Says:

#99 the big fella – so, in other words, I give balanced takes and don’t pick sides, just tell people what I think.

    Correct.

  33. Fred McNeil Says:

Yeah, we haven’t seen Gotfarmer for quite a while now.

  34. Jeff’s grandpa Says:

Kyles going to be the starter by wk 6 book it

  35. BillyBucco Says:

I honestly think some people wanna call KT a bust, just so they can say I TOLD YOU SO, if he is.
And looking at the NFL landscape, there is about an 85% chance at that being correct.

But NOBODY can call him a bust after seeing him throw to camp meat in the freaking PRESEASON.

If you are a fan of the Bucs, root for the kid, or go somewhere else!
