What’s Devin White Getting At?

May 19th, 2023

Twitter activity.

Disgruntled Bucs linebacker Devin White was on Twitter yesterday. And your guess is as good as Joe’s when it comes to what he was trying to get at.

White loves putting cryptic messages out on social media. When someone sniffs out what he’s trying to say, he then denies it, and days later White usually is proven wrong.

Take earlier this year when White was on Instagram and his cryptic messages seemed to indicate he was done in Tampa or perhaps even traded. When a reporter asked if White wanted out, White said that wasn’t the case. Maybe 10 days later it was revealed White demanded a trade.

Yesterday White began on Twitter with a simple “Thank you” for Lavonte David. Was this a public goodbye? White was asked he meant White was leaving, he claimed, no. He was just thanking his football big brother.

Odd.

Then, White put out a picture of himself with the words, “The work is being applied ! 2023 loading.”

No telling what that means. Is he working out on his own? Joe hasn’t noticed photos or video of White working out at One Buc Palace for OTAs (yet).

Meanwhile, the suspense builds for what will happen with White for 2023 and beyond.

And he posted something about being a cowboy on the hunt. Many people questioned his choice of words…

  4. Bucs Guy Says:

    Don’t care what he says.

  5. HC Grover Says:

    White is a KuKu.

  6. Dooley Says:

Saw this yesterday hoped the public thank you could be because Lavonte finally got into Devins’ ear to talk some sense in to him.

  7. Greg Says:

I had an ex GF that would do that stuff. Note the “ex”. She was crazy.

  8. Truth be told Says:

He is a Me guy that is not as good as he thinks he is. If he doesn’t want to be here then they need to get whatever they can for him and get him out of here so he doesn’t poison the rest of the team.

  9. Jeff’s grandpa Says:

    Attention seeker

  10. Jeff Says:

Micro Brain Stooge. MBS. Wildly erratic play and he thinks he’s worth a $100mm contract. He’s probably worth a 3rd round pick at this point.

  11. BBQBUC Says:

    See ‘ya!

  12. Joe Swanson Says:

This guy must crave attention like Karen Rodgers.

  13. Lt. Dan Says:

I hope JL is formulating a plan to trade White for a RB…Dalvin Cook – Austin Ekeler maybe? White plus a mid tier draft pick next year might be enough.

  14. BucsFan81 Says:

This guy is going to be a problem and distraction all year. He should have been traded before the draft. He clearly doesn’t want to be here and the fans are over him. He would rather chase money than championship and he is all about him self and not the team.

  15. Aceofaerospace Says:

Pride and envy. Two of the deadly sins. Play out your contract Mr White. Stop worrying about what someone else, somewhere else got. If the team felt you earned a huge extension and could afford it, you’d have it. Grow up.

  16. RottenAmiigo94 Says:

I’d take a seventh round selection for him at this point. Get new blood in here and rebuild this team the right way. I want a yearly contender for a few years again. I’m just afraid we’re heading back to the den of depression days.

  17. ChiBuc Says:

    White is triggering AB flashbacks

  18. jehzsa Says:

It seems the Bucs have their very own St. Meghan of Bollocks and St. Harry of Teets combined in their midst.

  19. Frank Pillow Says:

It’s a shame that 45 seemingly has difficulty self-assessing and accepting responsibility for his own deficiencies out on the field. There’s nothing worse than a teammate who’s unwilling to own-up, accept coaching and grind to get better.

  20. rrsrq Says:

Fans comments 🤬 Devin has been the wort pick in Bucs history based on these comments, let him go, he is a cancer, he misses every tackle (even when he leads the team in tackles) SMH. This is typical Florida team fan… sounds like the fans in Orlando when Shaq was in the final year of his contract, let him go, he is a cancer, f-him, yep… I’ve seen this play out to many times in Florida sports, I’m beginning to think the fans are the culture. You better learn from Rah, I will tolerate until I can replace you, do you see the Bucs bringing in a comparable LB… but honestly can’t blame a player for wanting to ride his horse outta here…

  21. BUC_MY_LIFE Says:

Devin White is literally Kwon Alexander with better PR. If he wants anything more than $10 mil per year, let him walk.

  22. TOMMY MORDUE Says:

I TEXTED YESTERDAY VIRTUALLY THE SAME THING LT.DAN POSTED..TRADE DEVIN WHITE NOW, TO THE L.A.CHARGERS FOR “AUSTIN ECKLER” & A MIDDLE ROUND DRAFT PICK & BRING IN A PROVEN VERSATILE VETERAN RUNNING BACK WHO RUNS WITH AUTHORITY & CATCHES THE BALL WELL TOO !LET DEVIN WHITE GET HIS MONEY FROM A TEAM THAT CAN AFFORD HIM,THEN THIS YEARS NEW TEAM CAN TOTALLY CONCENTRATE ON FOOTBALL & WINNING GAMES..SIRVOCIA DENNIS CAN STEP INTO WHITE’S POSITION & THE TEAM CAN JUST MOVE ON FROM THIS LOCKER ROOM CANCER..

  23. Pewter Power Says:

So freaking annoying this dude is trash, he is the face of this her look at me culture. Please trade this clown I’m tired of this circus. Average football player without below average common sense. No wonder his play fell off

Or he’s doing little things to annoy the Bucs to get traded

  24. Stormy Says:

I swear some of you are just as bad as White. Emotional infants. A 7th round pick? Anything? If Licht did that the Glazers should fire him on the spot. That’s lousy asset management. If he entertains trading White at all, the floor should be the anticipated comp pick they’d get.

Regardless of what the fans think of him, there’s probably 31 other teams that will take him immediately. And throw big money at him, too.

A 7th round pick – glad you aren’t the GM.

  25. Cobraboy Says:

White put on a Masterclass in how to damage a brand with a wrecking ball.

  26. For the People Says:

Broke back mountain is where he belongs

  27. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Clown Show! I think one of his horseys buc’d him off on to his head or kicked him in his head.

  28. ModHairKen Says:

“Clown“, “immature,“ “don’t care what he says.“

Could not agree more. He is a spoiled little brat. He’s been given talent that most of us dreamed about growing up. He’s wasting it by being a little baby about money. He’s not a guy you can rely on during tough times, as proven during the Rams game in the playoffs. Last year proves it as well. He’s just a cancer and he needs to be cut out.

Go ride your horse, i. some other town, baby brat Devin

  29. Ugotrobbed Says:

JL should have gotten what he could for him on draft day. BUT, If he could just shut up and prove himself on the field, Bucs might have something!

  30. Ultra ClodHopper Says:

    What a weirdo

  31. garro Says:

Who cares…Its obvious that D White is not the sharpeest knife in the drawer. I tend not to pay much attention to idiots.

  32. Lord Cornelius Says:

No idea wtf he’s trying to communicate lol

  33. Fred McNeil Says:

He’s hurting his own future contract.

  34. Bubby Says:

The guy writes thank you and people here bash him for being self centered.

  35. Pewter Power Says:

    Bubby Says:
The guy writes thank you and people here bash him for being self centered.

Not trying to bash you but obviously you don’t get it. If he was thanking somebody specific he could have easily given that person public recognition. He was looking for attention and he succeeded. It’s a pattern and he knows he’s playing mind games that fans won’t understand

  36. Geno711 Says:

    Cobraboy with another strong analysis.

  37. Steven007 Says:

It’s just passive aggressive foolishness. It’s evident that White is not the brightest player on the team. By a long shot. And his method here of posting attention seeking messages is not new. He’s been doing this for a while, even before he was supposedly disgruntled. Frankly, I see the same thing on social media all the time. Even unfortunately from some friends of mine. The need for attention. The poorly crafted post that begs for people to ask for clarification. I think it’s pathetic but it’s mostly harmless. That said, there’s a reason we drafted several linebackers. I trust the GM will do what’s best for the team. But he won’t do it in a reactionary way. Like some of the posters seem to hope. And that’s a good thing.

  38. Beej Says:

Bucs should tell him prior to the season that if he reaches certain metrics (pass coverage, missed tackles, holding his lane, etc) he’ll get his money. It’ll shut him up a while

  39. Irishmist Says:

The greats let their play do the talking. In sports, words are meaningless.

  40. Dooley Says:

“Not trying to bash you but obviously you don’t get it. If he was thanking somebody specific he could have easily given that person public recognition.”

He was thanking Lavonte David, and Stroud retweeted with “for being my teammate?” as a caption and White replied doubling down on his appreciation/admiration of LVD by saying “For being a great brother! Talk daily, life football, mindset the list goes on! Love that dude”. Giving #54 his flowers if you will.

White was also engaging with fans, even the ones calling him out, but didn’t get in the mud with them. That’s why I commented that David probably talked some sense into Devin and who knows? maybe he’s willing to put the BS he’s been on to aside and focus on being his best self as a ball player. Kudos to David if that is the case, and if so whenever you talk Bucs “leaders” throw some respect on 54’s name plz & thx

Wish he put this much effort into improving his game.
Makes u really miss Brooks ( my favorite all time buc)

  43. View from 132 Says:

Who cares… he’s a young athlete with a Twitter account.

  44. Tampa Stadium on Buffalo Says:

He is no Derrick Brooks and he is no LD. Trade him and get some picks. Thank you for playing unreal in the playoffs in our super bowl season. But we expect that every game. Not just a 4 game stretch. You are getting 11 mil this year. You seem like a complete you know what.

  45. Buccos Says:

    ^^^
Yes this. He can ride off into the sunset with Nassib

  46. NutterBuccer Says:

Maybe David was the one who pulled him aside and got him to takenhos head out of his A$$ and ready to play football this year.

  47. LakelandSteve Says:

Besides being a bottom echelon linebacker who thinks he’s great the dude is a first class drama Queen. Emphasis on Queen. The Bucs need to send him for a mental evaluation and figure what type of psychosis he has. It’s truly a shame that a guy with such a promising start to his career has turned into such a distraction for this team. The Bucs definitely need to get rid of him while they can although I doubt they could get much for him, maybe an R.C. cola and a moon pie.

  48. Mike Johnson Says:

White is gonna be a major distraction to this team this year. Lets find him a new home.

  49. Pewter Power Says:

Lavonte is an awesome human being but lol he can’t talk side out of wanting a new contract now. You can be teammates and friends but for some people money trumps everything. It’s great he was engaging with fans but honestly when you have to do it by sending out a vague message and yes you have to engage with fans because you still have to explain what you mean it’s just the way it is I guess so I’ll take my opinion out of it. All I care about is he comes to mandatory mini camp ready to work

  50. TAMPA BAY DEMON™ Says:

After being a pretty big fan of his for awhile…. I now have a cryptic message for Devin White.

Don’t let the door hit ya in the a$$.

    The Jameis of the defense

  52. Mike C Says:

Anyone defending this guy and saying he is a top linebacker in this league is really out of touch, if this guy was half as good as he thought he would have already been paid, 31 other teams would not pay this guy top dollar, spoiled, arrogant, egotistical brat.

  53. Craig Says:

If his brain can’t keep up with his feet, how can you expect it to keep up with technology?

Regretfully he isn’t worth a trade by himself, so someone else would have to sweeten the pot and the Bucs can’t afford to lose anyone important enough to be worth a trade.

  54. SlyPirate Says:

AB waiting to happen. Crazy doesn’t typically end well.

  55. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

    Yawn.

  56. J Ghotier Says:

He gets harder to trade and lessens his value by every SM post. He can’t be this off the rocker already in Life. Hopefully just immature as all get out 🙏

  57. Architek Says:

You can’t build around a guy like this…

  58. Duane Says:

45 used to be one of my favorite Bucs. Yet another reason Bowles should not be the leader of this team. He handed Devin the reigns and has filled his head with so much nonsense, that this is a problem. BA would not have let this fly. Coaching is waay more than x’s and o’s on defense, and Bowles’ favorite defender is a me first guy that likely isnt even the best middle linebacker on his own team. SMH.

  59. Tiny Dungy Says:

Sign AB to be his roommate, mentor him and to teach him how to be a pro

  60. stvcl Says:

    Wow…he coulda been a contender.

  61. Bucswin Says:

    Distraction he is..

  62. The Beer Whisperer Says:

I think Devin’s messages, just seem cryptic, due to the fact, he struggles with the English language.

  63. The Beer Whisperer Says:

Just imagine…. Going to college, and still being as dumb as Devin.

I would think, he would have learned something at college, if only by accident. But, I see no indication.

  64. The Beer Whisperer Says:

There’s a valuable lesson to be learned here, for younger parents.
“Don’t send your kids to LSU”

  65. MX buc fan Says:

If he is trying to get attention for his new deal I think he is doing it wrong (work hard, you know how many people make 11M a year? That is how you do it) and he doesn’t understand how NFL contracts work, 5th year option is used in almost all good players, it’s a way a GMs will work to have a good player on low $$ (he is hurting his stock just by being an # when he knows TB doesn’t have money this year + if he puts a bad performance this year he is not getting top $), that being said, he hasn’t show progress on coverage in 4 years… he is lucky he plays for TB and that fit his blitzing, what if he end up in not a heavy blitzing team, what you have on tape?? Bunch of missed tackles and busted coverage?? Grow a bit…

  66. Biff Barker Says:

    C-YA Devin.

You’re not that good to be so unhappy.

    Go elsewhere soon.

BTW, you’d have a new team already if you had any brains. But you don’t.

  67. Bkyrdbob Says:

We really cant afford to trade white. If he is gone, who is moving up to be the starter? Unless you want to tank, white needs to play for the Bucs this year.

  68. JeffreyLane77 Says:

Rumor is White is being traded to Denver.

  69. TDTB2022 Says:

    Am I missing something?!?!!?

I think 54 set him straight, and he is getting ready to dominate to get paid next year.

Joe, you have everybody hypnotized! Please snap your fingers. We are about to see a riot at One Buc Palace.

  70. JeffreyLane77 Says:

Kinda blows they drafted this guy 5th overall. Maybe get a 2nd rd pick and a player?

  71. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

What exactly has White done wrong here? Absolutely nothing

If a person is not getting paid what they feel they are worth, there is nothing wrong with asking for a trade. He did NOT demand one, and there is a big difference.

And this article is pure speculation. For all you know, David gave his advice and he was thanking him.

As to not being at OTAs…has any vetèan? I thought they have only had the rookie camp thus far?

A lot of veterans work out away from the team…so of the best have.

  72. stpetebucfan Says:

You got to feel sorry for poor Devin. He’s obligated by his own contractual signing to play for a paltry 11 million dollars. How will poor Devin survive?

It’s gotta be really tough stuck earning 30 million dollars? Why bother to HONOR YOUR WORD in the form of a signature on a contract? It’s really hard when a poor guys is scraping by on 30 MILLION $$$!!!

So what is Devin’s “word” worth…apparently not 30 million. Oh but what if Devin honors his contract…the one he SIGNED and he gets hurt and doesn’t get to cash in on an even bigger contract?

Again imagine the horror of being stuck with just 30 million for your past four years of effort. Must suck to be stuck trying to manage bills and life for that measley 30 million.

And so Quarter horses are hard to afford. They average between 10,000 and 20,000 bucks with the really valuable fetching 50,000.

That means Devin can only afford a hundred or so horses on his 11 million!
    Oh the agony and suffering.

  73. Vancouver Buc Says:

Jason DO NOT resign this creature.

  74. Gman Says:
