Matt Feiler Is The Early Leader At Left Guard

May 10th, 2023

New Bucs offensive lineman Matt Feiler.

Interesting nugget from One Buc Palace today.

It seems free agent guard Matt Feiler is opening eyes, which is not surprising considering the veteran is 6-6, 330 pounds. He was a two-year starter at guard for the Chargers and Justin Herbert after playing guard and right tackle for the Steelers.

Feiler, 30, was on the mind of new Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dave Canales as he addressed media for the first time since appearing on The Ira Kaufman Podcast. Canales noted how seeing Feiler working at left guard (yes, shorts and t-shirts) alongside Tristan Wirfs at left tackle is an impressive and imposing sight to see. Canales added that when Ryan Jensen was at spring workouts, he enjoyed looking at that big-man trio.

Assistant head coach Harold Goodwin later spoke and noted that Feiler is penciled in at left guard and Luke Goedeke is comfortable at right tackle, his college position. Goodwin also said Feiler “looks great so far” without being asked.

Lotta competition along the Bucs’ offensive line, and so much to figure out. Unfortunately, no pads and hitting until very late July.

yup it also seems like tristan wirfs is moving to LT

  3. Letsbucinggo Says:

Strong left side weak right side. Where is Mauch going to play?

  4. Scott Says:

Weird because Mauch prefers the left side from what I’ve read.

Undermentioned, no matter how these camp battles pan out we’re looking at having at least 3 reserve OLmen that have a ton of playing experience and varying levels of talent. Feiler also had a reputation in his Steeler days of being a nasty SOB, can’t wait to see if that’s still the case.

“lotta competition” Thats because the only position on O-line that’s for sure is Jensen at Center. And he’s coming off an injury. Everyone else is being moved around. Feels like we are starting from scratch.

    @ Anderson fa Gonzalez

They have already stated that he was , moving to LT where have you been?!?!

  8. Conte Piscatelli Says:

Is StinnieStill on the roster? He was certainly serviceable at right guard during the Super Bowl run. I like this, no one outside of Wirfs and Jensen should feel the automatically have a place on this line. Hell even Wirfs has to earn the left tackle spot. I don’t care that Mauch was a second round pick, and I like the dude, but he has to earn a spot otherwise he will be part of what is a lot of depth on that oline

  9. Dooley Says:

    ^^^
Aaron Stinnie has been at voluntary workouts, so yep still on the team for the time being.

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We have great depth on the oline…….Jensen, Mauch, Wirfs, Feller & Goedeke probably starting……Hainsey, Leverette, Stennie backing up….among others.

  11. Saskbucs Says:

    Wirfs Mauch Jensen Feiler Goedeke
Wirfs goes down Mauch goes to LT
Goedeke goes down Feiler kicks out to RT
Hainsey and Leverett (Stinnie when healthy) replace Jensen and the guards.

  12. Fred McNeil Says:

Good to hear Fieler is working out. He’s on the wrong side of thirty.

    “Hainsey at RG then? Leverette?”

Leverett will probably be battling Stinnie for the backup G/C spot.

RG will be a battle between Hainsey and Mauch…

Really like what Jason did on the O-line. Competition to push each other and it’s good talent pushing each other. jason can deff build o-line deff his strongest abilities now if he can just hit on some of these d-lineman. We will be golden
