Is Louis Riddick Speaking With His Heart Or His Head (Or Both)?

May 3rd, 2023

ESPN’s Louis Riddick.:

UPDATED 8:17 a.m. – Probably Joe’s favorite NFL analyst on the four-letter is former NFL personnel shot-caller Louis Riddick.

Joe finds his insights and breakdowns so smart. Whenever Riddick is talking, Joe is listening.

After the draft last weekend, Riddick studied what each team did and Riddick decided to select what he believes was the most underrated pick for each team.

For the Bucs, Riddick chose Pitt linebacker and fifth-round pick SirVocea Dennis. Riddick didn’t go into detail what he liked about Dennis on Twitter, but he did on BSPN’s live draft coverage. He called Dennis “slippery” when he blitzes and said that’s why he had 11 sacks last season.

“He is really good on the stunts, he’s smart as heck … with “tremendous instincts,” Riddick said before explaining Dennis is Todd Bowles kind of player, moldable into different roles on defense.

What Joe does know is Riddick played for Pitt and he still bleeds blue. So Joe is wondering if that’s also why Riddick chose Dennis.

Still, Joe is seeing a lot of props for the Bucs drafting Dennis. At the very least, Joe gets the idea Dennis should be a special teams stud.

These Pitt guys seem to translate well to the NFL, especially considering how the program generally wobbles in mediocrity most seasons.

    weak

Joe watch the Pitt games or watch Kalijah Cancey highlights and you will see Dennis everywhere in the backfield. He is a partner for Cancey as others were too but Dennis is dynamic and lays the wood in the backfield, no stranger to sacks.

  4. Rand Says:

Let’s hope Bowles taps that potential early and often.

  5. Fred McNeil Says:

I sure hope he learns fast. KJ Britt and that other guy are special teams only. Especially Russell. (Remembered after all.)

  6. Da Bucs Guy Says:

Hopefully, the new head coach next year, will get the most out of him.

I watched alot of tape on Dennis…not just the Highlight stuff. He flashed with his quickness and agility but not so much on the run support. we could run some stuff similar to what we already do with D White. Not sure on his cover abilities.

  8. Bucco Bruce Says:

I have seen several analysts say they really like him and say Jose Ramirez was also a steal. So more late round depth/potential starters. However our 1st and 2nd round picks while I like them except I saw Cody in the 3rd not 2nd. Those same analysts are concerned with them both.

  9. Stanglassman Says:

Jason must have got some intel that the Steelers wanted Cody a few picks before their original 2nd pick. Why else would he have moved up to get him?

Same with Joe. Outside of games, rarely watch. But BSPN pumps a lot of clips out on Twitter socJoe can pick and choose.

Pitt has one of the best Defensive Coaches in the country in Narduzzi. Good place to pickup talent from. Same reason Georgia & Bama get a lot of players get drafted. Obviously, a big talent disparity between Pitt & SEC top dogs but nonetheless well coached kids.
