“He Has A Lot Of Swag”

May 23rd, 2023

Rachaad White explains.

Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield can be a polarizing figure.

In college, he was pretty much reviled by opponents because he racked up yards and points and played with an in-your-face style.

Mayfield’s personality and the way he sparred with some reporters went from charming with the Browns to annoying as can be to teammates.

Charming when the Browns won. Annoying when he played awfully and the Browns lost.

And as the losses mounted in Mayfield’s final season in Cleveland, many of his teammates were good with him being gone. Of course, Mayfield hasn’t played a game for the Bucs yet. And as such, Bucs running back Rachaad White likes Mayfield’s “swag” (cockiness?).

White made an appearance on Kay Adams’ show, “Up and Adams” yesterday, seen on FanDuelTV. She asked White about Mayfield.

“He has a lot of swag,” White said. “He has that presence about him. Like, ‘I’ve been here before.’ It’s pretty good to see.”

White also added that Mayfield has a chip on his shoulder (uh, oh). And he’s not the only one, White said. It seems the whole Bucs team has that proverbial chip after how the season ended last year.

Well, it’s one thing to need orthopedic care on your scapula. It’s another to produce. Joe sure hopes the Bucs can produce as a result.

  8. eric Says:

Swag, lol I rather a player who has no swag but can play the game at a high level, how you are precieved means absolutely nothing!

  9. BBQBUC Says:

Oh, no, another article about Mini Mayfield’s “swag”. How about an article on how mini quarterbacks fare in the NFL?

It’s beyond me Joe what you see in Mayfield. Panthers gave him exactly the same ‘new’ opportunity to reinvent himself last season (yes, the same Panther team that beat us 21-3 WITHOUT Mayfield). Result of his ‘new’ opportunity? He went 1-6 with the Panthers until they shipped him off to the Rams (where he then went 1-3).

Just looked at his games with the Panthers & he was awful. Actually beyond awful. The only game that he won in that half season was against the Saints … because Jameis Winston threw 2 INTs & fumbled twice. Hard to imagine huh.

In his 8 games, the Panthers averaged less than 14 first downs per game, and averaged less than 14 PPG. He threw 8 INTs, fumbled 6 times (lost 1), and made a grand TOTAL of 26 (yes 26) 3rd & 4th down conversions. That’s an average of LESS than FOUR 3rd AND 4th down conversions per game over that 7-game stretch. He couldn’t move the team (and that was with McCaffrey still a Panther).

And oh ya, in the middle of that, Panthers gave rookie PJ Walker a chance to start …and he proceeded to lead them to a 21-3 victory over our Bucs. His secret? No INTs & no fumbles.

    @Defense Rules

The only light at the end of the Baker Mayfield tunnel is 1. He is not going to be Trask out and two, if Canales could coach up Geno Smith, he can coach up anybody!!

Kid ain’t met a microphone he’s doesn’t like do something then talk

  13. Voice of Truth Says:

Baker’s resume looks identical to the HC – one winning season and then a bunch of bad, bad looks

    Match made in….

  14. Craig Says:

His swag and five bucks will get you half a cup of the cheapest Starbucks coffee.

Other than that he has to prove he has the right to carry that swag around.

  15. Rand Says:

You can walk around swinging a hanging arm between your legs all day but that don’t win football games. Swag don’t mean jack.

  16. Cobraboy Says:

DR: The Kitties had no intention of winning last season. I’ll lay good cheese that the Kitty Pooh-Bahs were pi$$ed at the Walker win.

I do not blame Mayfield for the Kitties issuing him an apple & roadmap.

Imma wait and see…as if there is any other choice.

Fortunately, it won’t be OC Flat Brim coaching the swagmeister up.

We’ll see. Could be fun, could be “Comeback to the Year,” could be a Top-3 draft choice next April. All are on the table.

  17. Cobraboy Says:

Mayfield has supreme confidence in his abilities, not “swag.”

Les Grossman in Tropical Thunder has “swag.”

  18. Defense Rules Says:

Cobraboy … ‘The Kitties had no intention of winning last season.’

And yet they went 7-10 on the season. They were leading 21-10 at the start of the 4th quarter in that 2nd game; had their defense not allowed 3 TDs in that last qtr we would’ve lost and they would’ve won the division instead of us. I kinda think they would’ve preferred to win Cobra.

  19. Fred McNeil Says:

    The commercials were mildly entertaining.
I just want to see him entertain us on the field.
And he’s not quite a midget at 6’1″. His height is probably not his biggest challenge.

  20. Cobraboy Says:

@DR: and those 7 wins cost them greatly to move up.
