It was a nondescript play in a nondescript practice on a nondescript gray, cloudy January day in Alabama.
Who knew at the time it may have been a window into the Bucs’ future?
At Senior Bowl practices during a scrimmage, Purdue tight end Payne Durham caught a long pass in double-coverage near the right sideline for a touchdown.
Good pass, better catch.
When Durham got hit, he damn near got beheaded. He didn’t lose his noggin but he did lose his helmet. Right away he popped up, held his two hands up, palms up, as if to say, “Don’t hug me.” He was looking for his teammate, Cody Mauch, an offensive lineman.
He found Mauch, long red hair flowing, and flipped the ball to him. The wild North Dakota State product proceeded to do a Gronk Spike to celebrate the touchdown.
Roughly three months later, Durham and Mauch are now NFL teammates. Bucs teammates.
Joe has one initial request for these two. This touchdown celebration must be repeated for the Bucs. Not in practice. Not in one of those nonsense preseason games.
This needs to be reenacted in a game. A real game. For the Bucs. In The Licht House.
Please, gentlemen.

We got what we could out of him Max. He helped us win a SB, no doubt. Unfortunately, those few playoff games stimulated his vulvatic nerve endings and inflated his labial cortices. He’s toast, but you know what? Eff him. Eff his horses that road him in. And I hope from now those horses will be his only teammates, the only ones effing as hard as he deserves to be effed, because he’s shown his swollen pulsing arse to the world, on the field and off.
