“Everything You’ve Seen Online About Me Is Probably True”

Rookie second-round pick Cody Mauch. Tackle or guard?

Man, this Cody Mauch is something else. This guy should be working TV after his football career. And hopefully, he will be with the Bucs a long time.

First, let’s get this out of the way: Mauch said he has not been told where he will play in his many meetings with the Bucs dating back to the Senior Bowl.

The week of the Senior Bowl, Mauch practiced and played tackle and guard, excelling at both opened a lot of eyes, he said.

Mauch also said he had multiple Zoom meetings with Bucs offensive line coaches this offseason. And Mauch said given how much interest the Bucs had, and the fact Mauch knew how much Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht loves small school ex-tight end offensive lineman, getting picked by the Bucs was no surprise.

Just the opposite of Calijah Kancey.

Now about those teeth, or lack of teeth. Mauch said in a Zoom chat with the local pen and mic club tonight that the missing front teeth — lost in junior high basketball when he dove for a loose ball and instead slammed into someone’s head — is his signature look.

The missing teeth, Mauch added, aren’t getting fixed any time soon.

Mauch, who grew up on a family farm in North Dakota, is a “yelper” who also plays violin. He began driving tractors when he was seven working on the farm harvesting typical Midwestern crops like corn and soybeans.

“The way I play, the biggest thing is I have fun,” Mauch said. “I go out there and get the job done. And that shows up on film, the goofy antics.

“Everything you’ve seen online about me is probably true.”

Mauch also described himself as “dependable.”

Coming to the Bucs will be a new world for Mauch. He’s never been to Florida. But he won’t come to the Sunshine State alone. Tagging along he said is his two-year old chocolate lab.

Love these old school picks. Hope he gets used to the Florida heat and humidity.

  6. Rod Munch Says:

I hope once he signs his NFL contract, he gets new teeth put in, cuts his hair, wears a suit in the style of a dany, and becomes a vegan. That would be a great heel turn.

  7. FortMyersDave Says:

This guy is gonna be fun to watch and listen to. Hopefully he is a mauler like Jensen. BTW, Hooker just went to the Lions in the 3rd.

  8. Tabascco Says:

OMG The guy looks like a real football player he’s not going to the prom. All I read about is teeth so shallow !!!!

  9. FortMyersDave Says:

Rod, he said he will get a new set of front teeth after he is done with football so get used to that grin!

  10. Rod Munch Says:

FortMyersDave – yeah, I know, but I hope he goes Hollywood once he has some money, starts driving a Rolls, only wears custom suits, won’t return calls to anyone from the hillbilly town he came from, becomes a spokesman for kale.

Build the trenches! I’m all for the first two picks!

  12. Goatfarmer Says:

Two nubbins to rub. What a draft. JL killing it!!!

  13. FortMyersDave Says:

Oh yeah Rod, Mauch would definitely make a splash on Rodeo Drive or making an appearance at the Oscars. Hopefully that is after a successful 10 year career as a fixture on a solid Bucs OL. I really like this pick and can’t understand why some do not. It certainly was better than taking a flyer on Hendon for example.

  14. Coburn Says:

We love our angry gingers. Kinda sad we traded stuard. Miss seeing the guy with the lion mane fly down there in special teams

  15. MadMax Says:

I love it!!!! He can play both G and RT!

  16. Rod Munch Says:

FortMyersDave – Yeah, I like this pick as well, the only concern I had before looking at his workout numbers, was if he could play right away or not – and his workout numbers are very good, so no reason he can’t start day 1, at least at guard. At tackle, I do not like the pick. But Licht knows more about this than I do, and has an impeccable record at picking offensive lineman, so whatever he does, guard or tackle, you assume it will work out.

  17. Beej Says:

Looks like Jensen’s kid, frikkin awesome

  18. Day 1-76 Says:

Are the Joe’s gonna tell us how he loves to eat glass and spits D-linemen out of his missing teeth? Yes, of course. And then tell us he wouldn’t have been there at #50 because of how much licht knows since he played O-lin in college before he discovered scotch and chicken wings.

  19. Cobraboy Says:

Now HE is a big ugly, bigly…

  20. BringBucsBack Says:

Senior bowl film. Played guard most plays. He even played a little center. He looked good, I thought.
