Draft Odds Seem To Factor Strong Chance Of A Devin White Trade

April 21st, 2023

Goner?

There’s a clear betting favorite when it comes to legal wagers on what position the Buccaneers will draft first on Thursday night.

Yes, fans around the country wager on the NFL Draft. It’s big business, just not in Florida where lawmakers think sports betting will corrupt society.

Most sportsbooks allow wagering on the “position of a team’s first drafted player.” So Joe pulled current odds from the DraftKings sportsbooks.

They might surprise a lot Bucs fans.

Offensive lineman +150
Defensive lineman/EDGE +300
Linebacker +400
Quarterback +600
Cornerback +700
Tight End +1200
Running Back +2200
Safety +2500
Wide Receiver +3000
Kicker/Punter/Long Snapper 10000

First, Joe will admit to dropping $10 on the Bucs to draft a running back first several weeks ago. A wager like that now would pay $220 if Tampa Bay indeed did just that.

But what intrigues Joe is the +400 line on the Bucs to draft an interior linebacker. Do the oddsmakers know something about a possible Devin White trade? Is there even an inside linebacker prospect worthy of the Bucs’ No. 19 overall pick in this draft? Maybe Trenton Simpson out of Clemson, but Joe is not buying that. Of course, trading down is always an option.

Joe thinks the Bucs are far more likely to draft a tight end, cornerback or quarterback than a linebacker.

No surprise to Joe that the sportsbook has the Bucs drafting in the trenches with their first pick next week. The Bucs have done just in each of the past three seasons. So don’t expect that line to move.

Maybe they know that the Bucs will need at least 1, maybe 2 IOL after this year since Lavonte is very close to retirement. I hope they have insider info and I hope the Bucs trade Devin White, but I’m not sure these betting odds mean they will. Hope so tho!

  2. Lord Cornelius Says:

That is really weird honestly. We’d have to trade back far and trade Devin white to see a LB going first realistically, which would be a weird combo of trades lol

  3. zzbuc Says:

Should be, as everybody expects and OL , Joe….

  4. MadMax Says:

BUCS pick up WIRFS 5th year option!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Bojim Says:

Need to draft OL. But I think if Robinson is there at 19….

  6. MadMax Says:

Simpson is a beast, but we have to know we’re trading diva before we go there.

  7. SB~LV Says:

    If I was Jason I’d draft a kicker/long snapper/punter
    🙂

  8. HC Grover Says:

So who will the new LB be?

  9. SB~LV Says:

I saw LB Jack Cambell mocked to the Bucs in the 2nd round and I’d be happy if that happened

  10. HC Grover Says:

Canales will have to score 35 a game. The Bowles Swiss Cheese D awaits.

That’s good to hear, I was worried they might let him walk.

  12. MadMax Says:

    lol, i know….just sharing….

  13. Joe in Michigan Says:

Even if White isn’t traded (which I don’t think he will be, his value is low), the Bucs still need a competent backup ILB that can eventually become a starter.

  14. Crickett Baker Says:

We need Devon (who we know) more than any new draft pick IMO as long as he plays. I don’t really profess to know his mindset.

I am never as aroused as many of you are about picks in the draft. It is so uncertain no matter how the organization has been successful or un in it in the past. Even if we have nothing but “luck” in a pick there is hardly any telling if it will work out, ever.

  15. Joe in Michigan Says:

MadMax: I hear Simpson is a great athlete with less than stellar instincts…Like Devin White.

  16. Marine Buc Says:

We might not receive the value some of you are hoping for.

What about trading D. White for another player who wants to be traded?

RB – S. Barkley is not signing his franchise tender in NY and LT J. Williams wants to move on from the Bengals.

Both are making about the same as D. White and both would be instant starters at positions of need.

  17. Jack Clark Says:

We have to trade White for a 4th and 5th round draft pick because he doesn’t want to play here and we can’t risk him loafing on the field again

  18. MadMax Says:

….and not asking for a $100 mill contract Joeinmich

Who knew LD would turn out as good as he did. Its all about the transition to the nfl level, staying level headed and keep learning and improving.

  19. Joe in Michigan Says:

I meant to to put a question mark: “Like Devin White?”.

  20. ABucAway Says:

That’s the best news Ive heard all day, MM. Thx

  21. Joe in Michigan Says:

MadMax: I’m going by what the “experts” say, not any personal knowledge of Simpson…If the Bucs do draft an ILB in the first 2 rounds, it should definitely be someone with good instincts.

  22. Bucs Guy Says:

Simpson or Henley in the 2nd or 3rd round to replace White.

  23. MadMax Says:

Yeah, and that kid Jack Campbell is growing on me too…just not as fast as Simpson.

  24. Hodad Says:

Look where they have us drafting a safety. That’s a big need and there’s a better chance they us #19 on one.

Yeah, and that kid Jack Campbell is growing on me too…just not as fast as Simpson.
    ^^^^^^^
It looks like Campbell is good in coverage, along with being a solid all-around player.

  26. Goatfarmer Says:

The immature and selfish, overinflated Diva, who can’t tackle well but at least is one of the worst coverage linebackers in the game, can go lock himself in his stables and let his horses know he’s the boss. Because no one else believes he is and it will cause widespread vomiting to see him back in a Bucs uniform after this absurd stunt.

  27. Allbuccedup Says:

Trenton Simpson is on the same team as Jeremiah Trotter Jr. Jr is actually the best linebacker at Clemson. Drafter beware!

  28. Buc king Says:

Smart man would fix the oline or dline..
If we fix the oline we can go get a veteran qb next year and make a push for another bowl..
How many rookie qb ever won a superbowl?
I think that Brady money comes free next year we can get any qb we want on the market.
The offense we use will be implemented the defense should be a year better together.
We just gotta get Rodgers to come play for us and will be in the nfc championship.
The run game needs to be fixed and defense needs to learn how to take the ball away.

  29. Allbuccedup Says:

I just hope the Bucs don’t draft Wil Levis I believe hes an overhyped Jacob Eason strong arm no touch. But then again its a Bucs life.

  30. garro Says:

    Vegas doesn’t know Jack.
I’ll go whit the long snapper for one million Alex

Let’s see if he even makes the roster out of training camp first. I hear that Goedeke guy played so well in week 17 that they might just outright release this Wirfs guy. He’s no Kenyatta Walker, that’s for sure.

  32. Tbuc19 Says:

Simpson is DWhite 1.5….same player basically. Athletically gifted. Not too much upstairs.

  33. Jon Grudin Says:

Devin White for Trey Lance straight up
